AbstractA locality in the Upper Cretaceous Two Medicine Formation of Montana preserves abundant and variable horseshoe crab tracks and trails of the ichnotaxon Kouphichnium isp. These specimens span six morphologies differing in track form and trail configuration. These differences likely reflect variations in track-maker locomotion and behavior, substrate consistency, epichnial versus hypichnial preservation, and undertrack versus true tracks. Several tracks preserve the first clear appendage impressions for an extinct horseshoe crab. This discovery adds new information to the fossil horseshoe crab diversity in the Cretaceous Period. Trackway dimensions, such as the external width across the pusher legs or of the prosomal drag mark, provide information on the track-maker size. Most trackways correspond with crabs 9–14 cm wide; the abundance but limited size range of the traces suggests the large assemblage corresponds to a mating aggregation. The trace fossil record of xiphosurids indicates that throughout their history, horseshoe crabs inhabited both marine and nonmarine settings. They were definitively present in freshwater habitats from the lower Carboniferous through at least the Paleogene. Horseshoe crab trace abundance is highest from the upper Carboniferous through the Jurassic and likely reflects two factors: true upper Carboniferous taxonomic diversity and a preponderance of suitable sites for trackway preservation in the Late Triassic and Jurassic. Cretaceous traces are uncommon, and this Two Medicine locality is the first occurrence of horseshoe crab traces in the Late Cretaceous worldwide. Overall, track abundance and diversity would seem to correspond well with the reported horseshoe crab body fossil record.

The demand for object tracking (OT) applications has been increasing for the past few decades in many areas of interest: security, surveillance, intelligence gathering, and reconnaissance. Lately, newly-defined requirements for unmanned vehicles have enhanced the interest in OT. Advancements in machine learning, data analytics, and deep learning have facilitated the recognition and tracking of objects of interest; however, continuous tracking is currently a problem of interest to many research projects. This paper presents a system implementing a means to continuously track an object and predict its trajectory based on its previous pathway, even when the object is partially or fully concealed for a period of time. The system is composed of six main subsystems: Image Processing, Detection Algorithm, Image Subtractor, Image Tracking, Tracking Predictor, and the Feedback Analyzer. Combined, these systems allow for reasonable object continuity in the face of object concealment.

IntroductionOne way to prevent falsified medical products from entering the regulated pharmaceutical supply chain is to implement a pharmaceutical track-and-trace system (PTTS). Such systems in the most extensive versions generally mandate a scan at every point of contact with the medical product: from the point of entry to dispensation. There have been several attempts to implement such systems; for example, a ‘full’ PTTS in Turkey and the more pared-down version offered by the European Union’s Falsified Medicines Directive and Delegated Act. This study aims to identify facilitators and barriers to implementing (elements of) a PTTS, with the Turkish system used as a benchmark.MethodsWe conducted a ‘realist’ review, which synthesises literature and aims to establish how a specific technology works, for whom, under which circumstances. We searched Embase, Medline Ovid, Web of Science, Cochrane Central and Google Scholar databases, yielding 2,790 scholarly articles. We selected 21 for review.ResultsImplementation of PTTS elements has been attempted in different compositions in several primarily high-income and middle-income countries. Factors that affected implementation included stakeholders like the government and supply chain actors, the coordination between them, and their awareness, knowledge, and skills, as well as regulation and legislation, monetary investments, and technical and digital requirements.ConclusionThe interplay between contextual factors is crucial for successful PTTS implementation. Specifically, the findings indicate that aligning the incentives for all actors and allowing for adjustments in a continuous implementation process will likely facilitate implementation.

Dinosaur National Monument (DINO) encompasses an area that has rocks with a high potential for preservation of vertebrate trace fossils, especially dinosaur tracks. The purpose of this research is to document the presence, type, and distribution of vertebrate trace fossils in Mesozoic rocks exposed in DINO. These rocks include the Moenkopi Formation, Chinle/Popo Agie Formation, Glen Canyon Sandstone, Carmel Formation, Entrada Sandstone, Morrison Formation, Cedar Mountain Formation, Dakota Formation, and Frontier Formation. This study will increase our knowledge of the stratigraphic and geographic distribution of vertebrate tracks as well as provide taxonomic, behavioral, and paleoenvironmental data. During the 1990 field season, reconnaissance of the western part of DINO revealed the presence of vertebrate trace fossils in the Chinle/Popo Agie Formation. In addition, our examination of the Moenkopi Formation suggests that vertebrate tracks are probably present in this unit. Locality information was also obtained for probable track-sites in the Carmel Formation, Entrada Sandstone, and Morrison Formation.

Abstract A CR-39 based method was developed for measuring the ultra-trace alpha radio activities in aqueous samples having curie levels of γ/β-radio activities. The chemical etching method was optimized to reveal the alpha tracks in CR-39. This new chemical etching method involved the use of a phase transfer catalyst tetraethylammonium bromide which reduced the track revelation induction time without deteriorating the track-etch parameters. The alpha track-etch parameters such as bulk-etch rate, track-etch rate, induction time, and the critical angle of alpha track registration were measured at 60 and 70 °C, with and without using a phase transfer catalyst in the chemical etching for the comparison and optimization. The track registration efficiency of CR-39 in the solution medium was measured using the samples having known alpha activity of mixPu, and value obtained was found to be (4.42 ± 0.12) × 10−4 cm. The registration efficiency value thus obtained was corroborated with the expected efficiency expected from the calculated range of alpha particles in the solution. This CR-39 based method was employed to quantify the alpha activity, as low as 0.2 Bq mL−1, in the aqueous radiopharmaceutical samples having the curie levels of γ/β radio activities.

Many security technologies (Anonymous, Effective supply chain protection, 2002) have been developed to protect a wide range of products, documents, and individuals. The food industry has very specialized needs, and food products may be affected by criminal activities such as tampering, relabeling, unauthorized diversion, and counterfeiting. It is important to understand the attributes associated with security technologies so that the benefits may be weighed against the restrictions that arise when selecting appropriate solutions to protect the food supply chain. Security technology may be split into a number of categories: authentication, coding, tamper evidence, and tracking. Within each category the technology may be subdivided into overt, covert, and forensic features. No single technology provides an infallible solution to all problems, so the most enduring and effective solutions almost always comprise a combination of technologies that provide deterrence, aid detection, and assist with subsequent prosecution of perpetrators.

The use of continuous welded rails (CWR) is increasingly common and is particularly important when it comes to high-speed ballasted tracks. As the longitudinal displacements are restricted in CWR tracks, a considerable rise in temperature induces compressive stresses in the rails that can lead to track buckling. Given the nonlinear behavior of the ballast, usually represented by a linear plastic model, the problem of snap-through buckling may occur, for which only a few nonlinear analysis methods can trace the full response of the track structure. However, these methods fail to yield convergent solutions for problems with thermal loads when implemented in their conventional algorithm. For this reason, a new methodology is presented allowing the calculation of the safe temperature. In addition, some analytical results are also derived for comparison with the numerical results, obtained using three-dimensional finite element beam models provided by ANSYS.

Numerous footprints of dinosaurs, pterosaurs and birds, together with arthropod tracks, have been discovered in the upper Cretaceous Uhangri Formation which crops out along the south-western coastline of South Korea. This ichnofauna contains the first pterosaur tracks reported from Asia. The digitigrade tridactyl manus impressions exhibit features of a typical pterosaur hand print. The pes impressions, however, show features that are different from pterosaur footprints reported previously: there is no visible trace of impressions of individual digits, and the toes are triangular or rounded in shape distally without distinct claw impressions. As these features clearly distinguish the Uhangri tracks from Pteraichnus and Purbeckopus, we assign them to a new genus, Haenamichnus which accommodates the new ichnospecies, Haenamichnus uhangriensis. The prints are five to six times larger than those of Pteraichnus, and are currently the largest pterosaur ichnites known. They show virtually no trace of the 5th phalange of the pes, indicating that they were made by pterodactyloids; moreover, features of the tracks suggest that they can be attributed to azhdarchids, the commonest pterosaur of the Late Cretaceous. The longest pterosaur trackway yet known from any track site (length 7.3 m) and consisting of 14 pairs of foot impressions, was also found in the Uhangri Formation and suggests that azhdarchids, at least, were competent terrestrial locomotors. The fossil track site at Uhangri represents the first occurrence of the tracks of pterosaurs, dinosaurs and web-footed birds all on the same level. This demonstrates that pterosaurs and birds visited the same habitat, but the large size disparity suggests that they occupied different ecological niches.

BackgroundIn anticipation of the Protocol to Eliminate Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products (ITP) entering into force in 2018, there is a growing demand for information on track and trace (T&T) solutions for tobacco products. This article contrasts the efficacy of Codentify from the perspective of authentication with that of material-based multilayered security technologies.MethodTo calculate the probability of detecting one fraudulent pack under Codentify, we relied on a modified Bernoulli trial experiment with independent repeated sampling without replenishment. The probability is calculated using a multinomial distribution formula adjusted for the fact that both legitimate and non-legitimate packs may be sold in the market.ResultsIn a relatively small market, a law enforcement authority would have to inspect over 27 000 (almost 31 000) packs per week to have a 90% (95%) certainty that it did not miss a fraudulent pack under the Codentify system. A material based T&T solution would require only 45 (59) pack inspections a week to have the same level of confidence.ConclusionsThis study demonstrates the inefficiency of Codentify compared to other solutions that incorporate material-based security features. Signatories to the ITP should reject Codentify due to both its low efficacy and its clear violation of the ITP’s requirement that T&T shall not be performed by or delegated to the tobacco industry or its front groups.

AbstractThe existence of archaeological data in the coastline and hinterland of north sumatra was a trace of an ancient intrerraction track that continued to a later period. The track became a feeding line of the hinterland as trade commodity provider and the coastline as an exit gate of hinterland exported goods and an entrance of imported goods. The evidence of the traffic of commodity in north sumatra was recorded thorugh artefacts or written data.

A novel method to automatically generate the depth map is presented, when the depth maps of reference images located before and after the target image in the same image sequence are given. A novel grid dividing method and a joint feature response model are proposed to adaptively select trace points, and an image deformation algorithm is given to track depth maps with the trace points. Experimental results show that the proposed method can generate depth maps effectively and accurately, which can meet the industrial needs in 2D-3D conversion.

<p>During experiments on vehicle simulators a large amount of data is stored. On these data, it is possible to trace some similarities in the behavior of drivers in certain areas or when performing the same task. We can assume that if the driver performs a certain type of experiment, his behavior exhibits certain traits. These elements of common behavior can be used to create virtual track for<br />experiments. Which elements and how they can be used is described in this article. The algorithm for automatic creation of virtual track based on type of experiment is provided. It will help us to define the purpose of measurement and the track could be generated automatically.</p>
