In the manual classical numerical methods are considered and algorithms for the decision of systems of the ordinary differential equations (ODE), nonlinear and linear algebraic equations (NAU and LAU), and also ways of ensuring reliability and demanded accuracy of results of the decision. Ideas, which still not are stated are reflected in textbooks on calculus mathematics, namely: decision systems the ODE without reduction to a normal form of Cauchy resolved rather derivative, and refusal from any numerical an equivalent - nykh of transformations of the initial equations of mathematical models and is- the hodnykh of data because such transformations can change properties of models at a variation of coefficients in corresponding urav- neniyakh. It is intended for students, graduate students and teachers of higher education institutions in the direction of preparation "Informatics and computer facilities". The grant will also be useful for engineers and scientists on the corresponding specialties.

Chapter 5 examines the third and final stage of transplantation, which completed the process of Zen gaining full independence from other schools of Buddhism with its emergence as the newly dominant sect. This phase began with Yishan, one of the most influential émigré monks, arriving in Japan in 1299, bringing with him the tradition of Zen poetic composition and the fine arts. By requiring all novice monks at prestigious temples to display an intensive knowledge of the intellectual history of China, Yishan ensured the prevalence of the Chinese language, culture, and customs in Japan. The phase lasted until 1325, when Daitō won a debate with other Buddhist leaders despite never having studied in China, signaling the maturity and autonomy of the Zen monastic institution, which thrived for another century and a half.

Two different general claims have been made about large-scale political transformations produced by responses to environmental change. One is the claim that we are witnessing the potential emergence of a “green state,” where states internalize an ecological function as a core state imperative. Another is that we are undergoing a transition to an “environmental state.” The former claim thus envisages a radical transformation and its theory of the state based on historical sociology, while the latter is more skeptical about the capacity of states to undergo radical transformation, being informed by neo-Marxist accounts of the state. This chapter uses responses to climate change—a key test case for claims about large-scale political transformation—to suggest that some substantial transformations in the state are occurring, but that the driving forces are indeed political–economic and thus existing accounts of the “green state” need to be reformulated in this light.

This chapter and the next are about ending honor killing through moral transformations occurring within communities. The emphasis is on facilitating and curating reforms that community members come to willingly adopt as their own. Sociocultural norms, expectations, and conditions must be revised such that no one can conceive of honor killing as an honorable deed. Here the practicality of such an outcome is emphasized by examining four subjects. First, the formation by Badshah Khan of the Khudai Kidhmatgar into a nonviolent and service-based army among the Pathans demonstrates the possibility of transformation even among the fiercest of honor-bound peoples. Second, the chapter demonstrates the effectiveness of reframing honor and inducing cognitive dissonance, thereby separating killing from honorable behavior. Next, three existing honor–shame cultures in which honor killing is not practiced are examined as real alternatives. Finally, possibilities for nonviolent conflict resolution and peaceable costly signaling techniques are considered.

Over the past 30 years, the agrifood industry in developing countries has been undergoing rapid transformation in structure and behavior. These changes have been driven by both market forces and government policy, particularly foreign direct investment, and have the potential to affect farmers and consumers; the former via increased incomes and modernized technologies, and the latter via cheaper and safer food. This article examines the transformation of the agrifood industry in developing countries, focusing on the sector’s three segments: retail, wholesale, and processing. It first looks at the factors that drive the transformation of the industry and its procurement systems/supply chains that are shared across the segments. It then considers the “symbioses” among the three segments, highlighting how they reinforce each other and enter preferred supplier relations with one another. It also discusses emerging impacts of the above transformations on farmers as well as small and medium enterprises. Finally, it describes programs that promote linkages for a faster, more integrated, and more inclusive growth path for these transformations over the next decade.

Chapter 6 explores the dynamics of business model innovation by discussing the interactions between Sony and Apple over the minidisc and the MP3 player. Seemingly, a period of business model renewal is likely to be followed by business model replication. Both renewal and replication can be internally driven, or externally driven. Combining types of business model innovation (replication versus renewal) with business model orientation (strategy-driven versus customer-driven) gives four variations of business model transformation: exploit and improve, explore and dominate, exploit and connect, and explore and connect. This chapter considers four firms for illustration: DSM, the Port of Rotterdam Authority, NXP Semiconductors, and IHC Merwede. If one thinks of the four approaches as quadrants in a matrix, these cases show how firms can change their position within that matrix over time.

The CPT theorem says that any Lorentz invariant quantum field theory must also be invariant under the combined operation of charge conjugation C, parity P, and time reversal T, even though none of those individual invariances need hold. It is quite strange. Why should a quantum field theory be invariant under the combination of two spatiotemporal discrete transformations, and then a quite different type of transformation (matter–anti-matter transformation)? In one of the first attacks on these and related questions by a philosopher, this chapter argues that CPT symmetry is better understood as PT symmetry. If the author is right, CPT symmetry is really saying that quantum field theory does not care about temporal orientation or spatial handedness.

Crimea in War and Transformation examines the capacity of violence to permanently alter peoples and spaces.The war named for Crimea began as a border dispute between Russia and the Ottoman Empires in 1853, but transferred unexpectedly to Crimea in September 1854 after European Allies joined forces with the Sultan. In the course of one day, belligerent armies doubled the peninsula’s population and pressed the local population into labor. Within one month, ravenous men fell upon orchards like locusts, and slaughtered Crimean livestock. For more than one year, engineering brigades mowed down forests to build barracks. Both sides of the war used scorched earth tactics. At the apex of violence, desperate Russian officials scapegoated Crimea’s native Muslim population, accusing these and other civilians of hoarding food and collaborating with the enemy. Before humanitarian impulses prevailed, officials initiated a deadly deportation, forcing thousands of Tatars from their homes.

Throughout history and in all the world’s major faith traditions, it has been noted that conversion and other important spiritual and religious experiences may share or have features that overlap with signs and symptoms of psychiatric illness. William James, especially in The Varieties of Religious Experience, contributed significantly to the understanding of this overlap. The aim of this chapter is to explore the ethical and clinical dilemmas that arise when clinicians attempt to negotiate the seemingly conflicting imperatives of diagnosing on the one hand and of being open to the transformational significance of mental illness on the other. This is achieved by presenting three clinical cases from the author’s community psychiatric practice and analyzing them through the lens of Jonsen’s Four Quadrants Model for ethical case analysis.

Ovid’s remarkable and endlessly fascinating Metamorphoses is one of the best known and most popular works of classical literature, and perhaps the most influential of all on later European literature and culture. Loved for its vast repository of mythic material as well as its sophisticated manipulation of story-telling, the poem can be appreciated on many different levels and by audiences of very different backgrounds and educational experiences, whether it is for the tale of Pyramus and Thisbe or the endless but endlessly fascinating debate over the generic status of this epic which breaks all the rules and yet somehow must be included in any canon of Roman epics. The key to metamorphosis can be said to be not just transformation but also transgression, an especially significant issue in today’s culture and society. The actuality of Ovid’s Metamorphoses thus is remarkably strong, and that shows in the new scholarly approaches to the work. This anthology presents a number of recent developments, which, while representing different kinds of approach, explore the effects of transformation and transgression of borders in new ways. The main three aspects are transformations into the Metamorphoses (from what did the mythic narratives evolve), transformations in the Metamorphoses –(what new understandings of the dynamic of metamorphosis can be achieved), and how were the Metamorphoses transformed in later times, acquiring new meanings. So, transformation is explored as a form of transgression of states, or even the transcendence of mythic narrative.

This chapter shows how Spinoza’s ethics completes his conceptualist metaphysics, arguing that Spinoza privileges some of the plentiful ways of conceiving things over others on broadly practical grounds. It is in the self-interest of agents to conceive other things, as well as themselves, in the broadest, most inclusive ways. Spinoza thinks that the way to become a more virtuous agent is to reconceive oneself, a process that results in fundamental changes in an agent’s self-identity. Drawing on parallel contemporary work by Harry Frankfurt, it argues that Spinoza’s call to moral transformation is ultimately a call to a new self-identity, one that is far more powerful and stable, and perhaps even eternal. Although Spinoza holds out hope for our salvific transformation, he remains deeply pessimistic that we will ever enjoy much of it.

This article employs a stripped-down model of a state: a ruler, an apparatus of rule, a subject population, and external interactions of various sorts, from trade, diplomacy, and mass migration to war. It aims to identify common properties and systematic variations among states, including their involvement in war. First, using the example, of Tiglath-pileser I (ruler of Assyria, 1114–1076 bce), it places Middle Eastern empires in a much wider range of states across the entire world from the state's first emergence toward 3000 bce to the present. The rest of the discussion proceeds through four stages: an analysis of how states maintain themselves, a closer look at war's place in state transformation, a comparison among major types of state, and reflections on states and war in recent world history. Whether the states of today will break that interdependence is one of the day's most pressing political questions.

This chapter locates ballroom dance's transformative potential in the affective experience of synchronized performance, with particular emphasis on how it brings pleasure and feeling of well-being to the dancer. It examines the radical shift in awareness that occurs during the dance event itself, where feelings of joy and euphoria displace feelings of self-consciousness and worry over everyday life. It considers Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi's concept of optimal experience and flow in order to understand the events that can lead to such states of awareness as well as appreciate the appeal of ballroom dance as play. It also discusses the notion, advanced by Csikszentmihalyi and Stith Bennett, that play is grounded in the “concept of possibility” and is action that generates action, creating a unified experience flowing from one moment to the next. The chapter argues that flow and flow states generate feelings of positive personal transformation, of becoming beautiful.

This chapter reviews currents in theory with a focus on modernization and neoclassical statements of comparative advantage on the one hand, and structuralism, dependency, and other theories of underdevelopment on the other. The latter theories of underdevelopment hit their zenith in the policies of the import-substitution industrialization of the 1960s and 1970s. They were largely dismissed in the 1980s as the limits of import-substitution industrialization became apparent and as East Asia industrialized, undermining any argument that structural transformation was problematic in the periphery. This chapter theorizes that neither orthodox nor heterodox theories of structural transformation adequately explain the development of late developers because of the heterogeneity of contemporary capitalism. That said, heterodox theories, which coalesce around the nature of incorporation of developing countries into the global economy, do retain conceptual usefulness in their focal point, ‘developmentalism’, by which we mean the deliberate attempts at national development led by the state.

This chapter examines how the Internet is transforming academic research in the sciences, social sciences, and humanities. The question of changes in knowledge is one that science and technology should be well equipped to answer. The chapter also offers examples that show the range of e-Research. E-Research needs novel tools, and organisational structures as well as researchers should change their everyday practices. VOSON can be seen as part of a burgeoning engagement in e-Social Science. The e-Research component has the advantage of enhanced visibility. The sociology of science and technology does not have the conceptual tools to simultaneously deal with how research communities are oriented to shared objects, how this impacts various styles of science and knowledge, and how scholarly practices are therefore being transformed.

The Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) indicates that meeting the Paris Agreement's goal of limiting the global temperature rise from pre-industrial levels to between 1.5 and 2 degrees Celsius requires reaching net-zero emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) between 2050 and 2070, as well as deep reductions in the emissions of other greenhouse gases by around mid-century (GHGs) (IPCC, 2018). At the same time countries need to build resilience to face the changes that cannot be avoided. NDC Invest was created as the one-stop-shop of the IDB Group providing technical and financial support for countries in Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) in their efforts to achieve the climate objectives under the Paris Agreement, seeking to transition to a net zero, resilient and sustainable development pathways that improve quality of life and prosperity in LAC. Through our research and experience supporting countries and piloting solutions we have developed a toolbox for support. This paper describes three NDC Invest products to support Governments to tackle challenges and scale up action towards a climate aligned and sustainable development path: i) the design of Long-Term Strategies (LTS) for net-zero emissions and resilience; ii) design of ambitious Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), aligned to LTS; and iii) design of investment plans and finance strategies. Our three products are not a fix recipe, but rather a toolbox to provide flexible and relevant solutions tailored to country needs and context, and different stages of design and implementation of their climate targets.

Malaysia was once on the cusp of becoming one of the Asian Tigers as a result of the impressively high growth rates recorded in the early 1990s. From 1990 until 1997, the growth rate was above 9 percent per annum on average. This performance came to an end when the economy was struck by the 1997/98 Asian Financial Crisis, the worst economic crisis Malaysia has ever experienced since independence. Things eventually worsened with the onslaught of the 2008/09 Global Financial Crisis, which dragged the Malaysian economy yet into another round of a recession with the growth rate contracting at 1.5 percent in 2009. On hindsight, these two events, which have had a substantial impact on the state of the Malaysian economy, pointed to several urgent calls for economic reforms, such as the need to address structural weaknesses of the economy and to have a growth target which is both sustainable as well as inclusive. When Datuk Seri Najib Razak became the sixth Prime Minister of Malaysia from April 2009 until May 2018, it was clear that a new approach to economic development for Malaysia had to be crafted. Towards this end, he introduced the National Transformation Policy (NTP), so that the economy can be transformed into one that is of high-income and developed status by the year 2020. He also set a new vision for Malaysia, also known as the 2050 National Transformation, or TN50, which is meant to chart a new course for Malaysia to move into the second half of the 21st century. How successful is this transformational agenda? What are the other issues and challenges which need to be addressed? What important lessons can we learn from this transformational journey? This book is an attempt to address these specific questions by assessing Najibs economic plans, policies, programmes and vision which evolved during the nine years of his term as the sixth Prime Minister of Malaysia.

Since the 1980s, Spain and South Korea have experienced a dramatic transformation from middle-income to advanced economies. How did Spain and South Korea upgrade? While market liberalization and globalization were important forces for change, and states continue to be central in the organization of the Spanish and Korean economies, the liberal and the developmental state perspectives do not provide an comprehensive explanation of these transformations. Building on a combination of historical institutionalism and international business literatures, this book argues that upgrading was underpinned by cooperative models based on interdependencies and quid pro quo exchanges between national governments and large firms. The negotiated nature of these arrangements opened the door to institutional variation and enabled Spain and Korea to pursue different strategies. Spain adopted an integrational approach based on foreign direct investment, technological outsourcing, and regional integration. Korea pursued a techno-industrial strategy that prioritized self-sufficiency and the development of local technological capacity. These strategies enabled Spanish and Korean firms across multiple complex sectors to reach the efficiency frontier, but resulted in different productive specializations in complex services and manufacturing respectively. Through this comparative study of transformation in Spain and Korea, this book shifts our perspective on the political economy of economic transformation from markets or states to state–firm coordination as a driver for economic transformation, from one to at least two different pathways to upgrading, and from a world divided into emerging economies and world leaders to a more nuanced perspective that recognizes the perspective of new advanced economies.

Resumo:

The reality of war has always been connected with political, economic, and social dynamics, as opposed to the notion that it is held within the confines of the battlefield. International political sociologists argue that practices of war and peace are positioned at the crux of institutional continuities and societal change, and that it is wrong to presuppose a dichotomy between the domestic and the international. As a result, scholars have become interested in the study of warfare, which, apart from military history, encompasses various themes such as the nature of human conflict and issues of defense policy, logistics, operations, and strategic planning. One particular study is International Political Sociology (IPS), a field of research that is concerned with how wars draw boundaries, how they influence political authority and trajectories of power, and how these are integrated in the global sphere. Meanwhile, International Relations (IR) is a formal subject that addresses the origin of war, how it impacts the dealings of the international system, and the institutional arrangements that might restrict or enhance war as a determinant of state relations. The study of International Relations is rife with various analytical perspectives, from realism to neo-realism and liberal internationalism, all of which exhibit how war continues to have a central place in scholarly disciplines.

Resumo:

From the middle of the nineteenth century until the first part of the twentieth century contract law was dominated by a school of thought now known as classical contract law. Over the last seventy or eighty years contract law has been transformed from classical to modern. One area of transformation concerns the nature of contract-law reasoning. Reasoning in classical contract law was formal: social propositions played little or no role. In contrast, the objective of modern contract law is to craft rules that are justified by social propositions or, to put it differently, are normatively desirable. The transformation from classical to modern contract law can also be observed through examination of four spectra along which contract-law doctrines can be ranged: from objectivity to subjectivity, from standardization to individualization, from the static to the dynamic, and from binary to multifaceted rules.
