Multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) is the resistance of Mycobacterium tuberculosis to at least two tuberculosis (TB) drugs, rifampicin and isoniazid. The disease requires a long treatment duration with several second-line drugs. This leads to a globally low success rate of approximately 56% for MDR-TB treatment. Studies have reported that adverse drug reactions (ADRs) contribute to high rates of non-compliance, treatment discontinuation, and failure. Tuberculosis (TB) can attack almost all organs of the body, especially the lungs. If no treatment is complete, this disease can lead to complications to death. Many factors can affect the success of TB treatment, among others: patient factors, regulatory factors taking medication (PMO), drug factors. The research problem is whether the variables of education, age, income, knowledge, adherence to take medication, supervisors taking medication and counseling affect the success of tuberculosis treatment and how the factor analysis of these variables influences the success of tuberculosis treatmen

Currently, South Africa ranks third on the 2011 list of 22 high-burden TB countries in the world and it was estimated that each active-TB person could potentially infect 10–15 people annually. The WHO additionally reported that in the year 2009, 87% of all TB patients worldwide were successfully treated, with a treatment success rate of 74% reported for South Africa.
