The Kong-zi jia-yu (“School Sayings of Confucius”) is an important historical source for the study of Confucius’ teachings. The text comprises Confucius’ sayings, records of his conversations with his students and other people, and also information regarding his life and deeds. Regardless of the factual cornucopia, the text remains almost completely unknown to Russian scholars. Equally, it has never been translated into Russian. The necessity to translate this historical source into Russian is obvious, at least because of the information regarding the life of Confucius (551–479 BC) and also the theory of his philosophy and belief system. The article offers the initial stage of the study of the Kong-zi jia-yu and comprises the Russian translation of the first two chapters. One of the tasks of the article is the identification of the sources the Kong-zi jia-yu is based upon. The translation is accompanied by the synopsis of the contents of the first five chapters, their composition and a source critical study about the information found in the Kong-zi jia-yu and the ancient Chinese works, such as Chun-qiu Zuo-zhuan, Xun-zi, Li-ji, Da Dai li-ji, Yi-wen-zi, Shuo-yuan. The study has proven that these texts should not be considered as sources of information for the first and second chapters of the Kong-zi jia-yu due to significant differences in detail description. It has been also established that the texts of the third, fourth and fifth chapters, which are philosophical dialogues to a large extent coincide with the chapters of Li-ji (chapters Ai-gong wen, Ru xing) and Da Dai li-ji (chapters Zhu yan, Ai-gong wen yu Kong-zi). However, regardless of these coincidences these texts still should not be considered as direct sources for the relevant chapters from the Kong-zi jia-yu. Most likely, the authors of all three chapters had recourse to the same source.

One of the unresolved issues in using the gasifier is the inability to determine the occurrence of the transition regime of fluidized bed. In modeling gas-solid phase, drag force is one of the main mechanisms for inter-phase momentum transfer. Thus, a simulation of fluidized bed was developed to study the effect of using various drag models over different bed height of H/D ratio such as 0.5, 1 and 2. A two dimensional model using Eulerian-Granular Multiphase Model (EGM) based on two fluid models have been used to simulate hydrodynamics of a bubbling fluidized beds. Gas-solid interactions are modeled via inter-phase of a drag model. The drag correlations of Gidaspow, Wen Yu, Syamlal-O'Brien, Hill Koch Ladd (HKL) and Representative Unit Cell (RUC) were implemented to simulate the interaction between phases. From this study, we found that different H/D ratio such as 0.5, 1 and 2 yields different volume fraction as increasing bed height slows kinetic transport of particle sand to the upper side of the bed. Besides that, different H/D ratio also resulted in different velocity vector. The results also show that Wen Yu and Syamlal-O'Brien are sufficient enough in detecting the change from one regime to another regardless of the bed height.

The ever-increasing requirements in the high-energy density of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) and current bottlenecks in cobalt supply place restrictions on the development of the state-of-the-art cathode materials with fine-tuned chemical composition by substituting the cobalt with nickel and manganese. In the layered structure ternary systems (LiNi1-y-zMnyCozO2, NCM), three transition-metal ions play a distinctive role that determines the physicochemical properties. A comprehensive understanding of the basic contribution of each transition metal is critical for further complete replacing expensive cobalt.[1] Here, we demonstrate cobalt and manganese behaviors by comparing various layered oxides with different chemical compositions to reveal their corresponding contributions.[2] Our results affirmed that cobalt plays an undeniable role in fast degradation, and found that cobalt is more destructive than Ni at high voltages. Even the possible instability induced by manganese (III) Jahn-Teller distortion [3], Mn(IV) substitution in the lattice can effectively alleviate this destructive and enables a high potential functionality. By further regulating the chemical composition with a concentration gradient strategy, Co-enriched surface and Mn-enriched core design in Ni-rich particles determines a robust structure, which can effectively suppress the owing to the low stiffness of the surface and stable structure in the core region. With these fundamental discoveries, we provide a guide for developing the promising Co-free cathodes to meet the increasing demand for high-energy density LIBs. References [1] M. Li, J. Lu. Prunus Linnaeus (1753: 473) s.l. consists of approximately 250 species distributed across the Northern Hemisphere and into the subtropics and tropics (Wen et al. 2008). In the long taxonomic history of this genus, there are two main opinions: some botanists inclined to split Prunus s.l. into multiple genera (Yu et al. 1986, Takhtajan 1997, Lu et al. 2003), while the others maintained the genus Prunus s.l. and recognized groups at sectional or subgenera levels (Chin et al. 2010, Shi et al. 2013, Eisenman 2015).

Han Yu (768-824) was a famous essayist in Tang Dynasty. He was one of the “Eight Great Prose Maters of the Tang and Song”(唐宋古文八大家)and had an important role in advocating the Classical Prose Movement(古文運動). His prose writings had a great influence on literature at that time and this contributed to a rising number of proses. His strong opposition of parallel prose(駢文) motivated the other literati to imitate his styled writings. As a result, there was no doubt that Han Yu was honored as a great prose writer because of his achievement in literary reform. A study of Han Yu and his proses have been a hot topic in literary research for years. Despite Han Yu’s prose, his poetry was another focus of scholarly research. Nevertheless, a specific, comprehensive research on his eulogy was not yet founded. In response to this finding, this research is therefore aimed at a thorough analysis of his eulogies and his various images which are shown in his work. This thesis begins with an introduction of previous contribution and achievement of Han Yu’s scholarly researches. The second chapter indicates how Han Yu links his life experience with his family’s or friend’s death in a eulogy. The third chapter aims at revealing the friendship of Han Yu and his friends. The following chapter is writing to explore Han Yu’s various ideas of the politics, the Heaven and the self-blaming attempt. The last chapter is a concluding section of the findings in Han Yu’s eulogy from the previous chapter.

AbstractRecent deep-learning models have achieved impressive predictive performance by learning complex functions of many variables, often at the cost of interpretability. This chapter covers recent work aiming to interpret models by attributing importance to features and feature groups for a single prediction. Importantly, the proposed attributions assign importance to interactions between features, in addition to features in isolation. These attributions are shown to yield insights across real-world domains, including bio-imaging, cosmology image and natural-language processing. We then show how these attributions can be used to directly improve the generalization of a neural network or to distill it into a simple model. Throughout the chapter, we emphasize the use of reality checks to scrutinize the proposed interpretation techniques. AbstractRockburst is one of the most intense reactions in various instability phenomena of underground cavern surrounding rock, which seriously threatens the safety of underground engineering construction personnel and equipment. Based on Mohr–Coulomb strain softening model, the non-associated flow rule is adopted for plastic flow after material yield. By implanting Gu Ming-cheng and Tao Zhen-yu rockburst criterion in the software, the effects of different dilatancy angles on rockburst grade and circumferential stress distribution of surrounding rock of circular tunnel are simulated. The calculation results show that the larger the dilatancy angle is, the more difficult the rock burst pit is to form. The elements of serious rockburst are mainly concentrated in the wall of the tunnel, and the shear bands formed in the high value area of shear strain increment are short. When the dilatancy angle is small, the circumferential stress reaches the maximum at the interface of elastic-plastic zone. With the increase of dilatancy angle, the number of elements entering the plastic state and occurring medium and severe rockburst increases first and then decreases, while the number of elements occurring slight rockburst decreases monotonously. Different dilatancy angles have significant effects on the number of elements occurring rockburst at all levels.

John F. Hartwig of the University of California, Berkeley devised (Science 2014, 343, 853) conditions for the regioselective silylation of an arene 1 to give 2. The silyl group can directly be converted, inter alia, to halo, amino, alkyl, or hydroxyl. Jin-Quan Yu of Scripps La Jolla effected (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2014, 53, 2683) regioselective alkenylation of the arene 3 with 4 to give 5. Wei-Liang Duan of the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry described (Org. Lett. 2014, 16, 500) a related alkenylation protocol. Deping Wang of Henyang Normal University developed (Eur. J. Org. Chem. 2014, 315) inexpensive conditions for the conversion of an aryl bromide 6 to the corresponding phenol 7. Mamoru Tobisu and Naoto Chatani of Osaka University used (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2014, 136, 5587) a Ni catalyst to convert the lactam 8 to the aryl boronate 9. Patrick J. Walsh of the University of Pennsylvania found (Adv. Synth. Catal. 2014, 356, 165) conditions for the clean monoarylation of the amide 11 with 10 to give 12. In an application of the Catellani approach, Zhi- Yuan Chen of Jiangxi Normal University coupled (Chem. Eur. J. 2014, 20, 4237) the aryl iodide 13 with 14 to give the amino ester 15. Frederic Fabis of the Université de Caen-Basse-Normandie used (Chem. Eur. J. 2014, 20, 7507) Pd to catalyze the ortho halogenation (and alkoxylation) of the N-sulfonylamide 16 to give 17. Wen Wan of Shanghai University and Jian Hao of Shanghai University and the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry effected (Chem. Commun. 2014, 50, 5733) ortho azidination of the aniline 18 with 19, leading to 20. Jianbo Wang of Peking University found (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2014, 53, 1364) that the N-aryloxy amide 21 could be combined with the α-diazo ester 22 to give the ortho-alkenyl phenol 23. Silas P. Cook of Indiana University uncovered (Org. Lett. 2014, 16, 2026) remarkably simple conditions for the enantiospecific cyclization of 24 (65% ee) to 25 (63% ee). The development of arynes as reactive intermediates continues unabated. Xiaoming Zeng of Xi’an Jiaotong University developed (Org. Lett. 2014, 16, 314) the reagent 27 for the bis-functionalization of the aryne derived from 26.

In this study, seven drag models are examined to determine how they affect fluidization behavior of Geldart A particles of biomass and coal. Notwithstanding the notable number of numerical studies to find the best drag model for larger particles, there is a dearth of information related to drag models for finer Geldart A particles. Additionally, to our knowledge, these drag models have not been tested with a binary mixture of Geldart A particles. Computational fluid dynamics was used to model the gas and solid phases in an Eulerian-Eulerain approach to simulate the particle-particle interactions of coal-biomass mixtures and compare the predictions with experimental data. In spite of the previous findings that bode badly for using predominately Geldart B drag models for fine particles, the results of our study reveal that if static regions of mass in the fluidized beds are considered, these drag models work well with Geldart A particles. It was found that the seven drag models could be divided into two categories based on their performance. One category included the Gidaspow family of drag models (Gidaspow, Gidaspow-Blend, and Wen-Yu) and the Syamlal-O’Brien drag model; these models closely predicted the experiments for single solids phase fluidization. For binary mixtures, however, the other drag model group (BVK, HYS, Koch and Hill) yielded better predictions.

Three-phase flow formed in a disrupted core of nuclear reactors is one of the key phenomena to be simulated in reactor safety analysis. Particle-based simulation could be a powerful CFD tool to understand and clarify local thermal-hydraulic behaviors involved in such three-phase flows. In the present study, to develop a computational framework for three-phase flow simulations, a single bubble moving in a stagnant solid particle-liquid mixture pool was simulated using the finite volume particle (FVP) method. The simulations were carried out in a two dimensional system. The bubble shape change and the bubble rise velocity were compared with the newly performed experiments, which used solid particulate glasses of 0.9 mm in diameter, liquid silicone and air. The two-phase flow simulation of a single bubble rising in a stagnant liquid pool reproduced measured bubble shape and bubble rise velocity reasonably. On the other hand, the bubble rise velocity in a stagnant particle-liquid mixture pool was overestimated in comparison with the measurement. This result suggests that particle-particle and particle-fluid interactions would have dominant influence on bubble motion behavior in the particle-liquid mixture pool under the present multiphase conditions. To evaluate such interactions in the simulations, the particle-particle interactions were modeled by the distinct element method (DEM), while two models were applied to represent particle-fluid interactions. One is the theoretical model for apparent viscosity of particle-liquid mixture, which describes the viscosity increase of liquid mixed with solids based on the Frankel-Acrivos equation. The other is the drag force model for solid-fluid interactions. In the present study, we took the Gidaspow drag correlation, which is a combination of the Ergun equation and Wen-Yu equation. A comparison of both the transient bubble shape and bubble rise velocity between the results of experiment and simulation demonstrates that the present computational framework based on the FVP method and solid-phase interaction models is useful for numerical simulations of a single bubble moving in a stagnant solid particle-liquid mixture pool.

Abstract Laminated composite plates have been treated systematically in our recent book (Yu 1996). In one of the chapters, classical and refined modelings for large deflections of laminates are formulated on the basis of nonlinear elasticity. In a separate chapter, similar modelings for large deflections of piezoelectric plates are dealt with on the basis of both nonlinear elasticity and piezoelectricity. In this paper we carry out a combined treatment of large deflections of laminated composite plates including the piezoelectric effect, through the use of constitutive relations.

A $(2,1)$-total labelling of a simple graph $G$ is a function $\pi \colon V(G)\cup E(G) \to \{0, \ldots, k\}$ such that: $\pi(u) \neq \pi(v)$ for $uv \in E(G)$; $\pi(uv) \neq \pi(vw)$ for $uv, vw \in E(G)$; and $|\pi(uv)-\pi(u)| \geq 2$ and $|\pi(uv)-\pi(v)| \geq 2$ for $uv \in E(G)$. The $(2,1)$-total number $\lambda_2^t(G)$ of $G$ is the least $k$ for which $G$ admits such a labelling. In 2008, Havet and Yu conjectured that $\lambda_2^t(G)\leq 5$ for every connected graph $G \not\cong K_4$ with $\Delta(G) \leq 3$. We prove that, for near-ladder graphs, $\lambda_2^t(G)=5$, verifying Havet and Yu's Conjecture for this class.

Periodic seabed undulations, such as nearshore sandbars, are known to reflect incoming surface waves of twice the wavelength by the so-called Bragg resonance mechanism. In view of this property, longshore seabed-mounted bars were proposed long ago as a means of coastal protection against the high momentum of incident oceanic waves. Many theoretical, computational, experimental and field measurements were conducted to understand their effectiveness in shielding the shore. The idea, nevertheless, proved impractical when Yu and Mei (JFM 2000, [1]) showed that due to an inevitable finite reflection from the shoreline, energy can get trapped in the area between the shoreline and the patch of bars eventually resulting in a much higher wave energy flux impinging the shoreline. Here we propose an arrangement of oblique bars that shelters the shore by diverting, rather than reflecting, shore-normal incident waves to the shore-parallel direction. A protected buffer zone is thus created at the shoreline. We show that this novel arrangement can very efficiently shelter the shore, is almost insensitive to the distance between the bottom corrugations and the shoreline, is relatively robust against frequency detuning, and will discuss that it can be designed to protect the shore against almost the entire broadband spectrum of incident waves.

The focus of the article, Letter to Wu Jizhong (Yu Wu Jizhong shu, 与吴季重书), a sample of Jian’an epistolography, is a message sent by Cao Zhi (曹植, 192–232) to his friend Wu Zhi (吴质). The article contains the translation and analysis of Letter to Wu Jizhong, which has not been studied in Russian sinology yet. Letter to Wu Jizhong is to be considered only in the light of Letter in response to Cao Zhi by Wu Zhi (Da Dong’e wang shu, 答东阿王书). Letter to Wu Jizhong is analyzed as an oratorical speech in writing. The analysis is based on classical rhetorical theories, mainly on Aristotle’s theory of rhetoric. In each of the 3 parts of the Letter… we highlight its subject, theme, problem, thesis, goal (elements of the Inventio). The oratory of the Letter… is epideictic and deliberative. “The topos of Size”, i. e., exaggeration, contributes to the grotesque-satirical effect.

Faster feature selection algorithms become a necessity as Big Data dictates the zeitgeist. An important class of feature selectors are Markov Blanket (MB) learning algorithms. They are Causal Discovery algorithms that learn the local causal structure of a target variable. A common assumption in their theoretical basis, yet often violated in practice, is causal sufficiency: the requirement that all common causes of the measured variables in the dataset are also in the dataset. Recently, Yu et al. (2018) proposed the M3B algorithm, the first to directly learn the MB without demanding causal sufficiency. The main drawback of M3B is that it is time inefficient, being intractable for high-dimensional inputs. In this paper, we derive the Fast Markov Blanket Discovery Algorithm (FMMB). Empirical results that compare FMMB to M3B on the structural learning task show that FMMB outperforms M3B in terms of time efficiency while preserving structural accuracy. Five real-world datasets where used to contrast both algorithms as feature selectors. Applying NB and SVM classifiers, FMMB achieved a competitive outcome. This method mitigates the curse of dimensionality and inspires the development of local-toglobal algorithms.

Development of practical and verifiable prognostic approaches for gas turbine engine bearings will play a critical role in improving the reliability and availability of legacy and new acquisition aircraft engines. In addition, upgrading current United States Air Force (USAF) engine overhaul metrics based strictly on engine flight hours (EFH) and total accumulated cycles (TAC) with higher fidelity prognostic models will provide an opportunity to prevent failures in engines that operate under unusually harsh conditions, and will help avoid unnecessary maintenance on engines that operate under unusually mild conditions. A comprehensive engine bearing prognostic approach is presented in this paper that utilizes available sensor information on-board the aircraft such as rotor speed, vibration, lube system information and aircraft maneuvers to calculate remaining useful life for the engine bearings. Linking this sensed data with fatigue-based damage accumulation models based on a stochastic version of the Yu-Harris bearing life equations with projected engine operation conditions is implemented to provide the remaining useful life assessment. The combination of health monitoring data and model-based techniques provides a unique and knowledge rich capability that can be utilized throughout the bearing’s entire life, using model-based estimates when no diagnostic indicators are present and using the monitored features such as oil debris and vibration at later stages when failure indications are detectable, thus reducing the uncertainty in model-based predictions. A description and initial implementation of this bearing prognostic approach is illustrated herein, using bearing test stand run-to-failure data and engine test cell data.

Understanding the hardening syndrome of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) tuber tissue to eliminate textural defects in fresh and fresh-peeled/cut products. United States Department of Agriculture, novembro de 2002. http://dx.doi.org/10.32747/2002.7587238.bard.

Resumo:
The project sought to understand factors and mechanisms involved in the hardening of potato tubers. This syndrome inhibits heat softening due to intercellular adhesion (ICA) strengthening, compromising the marketing of industrially processed potatoes, particularly fresh peeled-cut or frozen tubers. However, ICA strengthening occurs under conditions which are inconsistent with the current ideas that relate it to Ca-pectate following pectin methyl esterase (PME) activity or to formation of rhamnogalacturonan (RG)-II-borate. First, it was necessary to induce strengthening of the middle lamellar complex (MLX) and the ICA as a stress response in some plant parenchyma. As normally this syndrome does not occur uniformly enough to study it, we devised an efficient model in which ICA-strengthening is induced consistently under simulated stress by short-chain, linear, mono-carboxylic acid molecules (OAM), at 65 oC [appendix 1 (Shomer&Kaaber, 2006)]. This rapid strengthening was insufficient for allowing the involved agents assembly to be identifiable; but it enabled us to develop an efficient in vitro system on potato tuber parenchyma slices at 25 ºC for 7 days, whereas unified stress was reliably simulated by OAMs in all the tissue cells. Such consistent ICA-strengthening in vitro was found to be induced according to the unique physicochemical features of each OAM as related to its lipophilicity (Ko/w), pKa, protonated proportion, and carbon chain length by the following parameters: OAM dissociation constant (Kdiss), adsorption affinity constant (KA), number of adsorbed OAMs required for ICA response (cooperativity factor) and the water-induced ICA (ICAwater). Notably, ICA-strengthening is accompanied by cell sap leakage, reflecting cell membrane rupture. In vitro, stress simulation by OAMs at pH<pKa facilitated the consistent assembly of ICAstrengthening agents, which we were able to characterize for the first time at the molecular level within purified insoluble cell wall of ICA-strengthened tissue. (a) With solid-state NMR, we established the chemical structure and covalent binding to cell walls of suberin-like agents associated exclusively with ICA strengthening [appendix 3 (Yu et al., 2006)]; (b) Using proteomics, 8 isoforms of cell wall-bound patatin (a soluble vacuolar 42-kDa protein) were identified exclusively in ICA-strengthened tissue; (c) With light/electron microscopy, ultrastructural characterization, histochemistry and immunolabeling, we co-localized patatin and pectin in the primary cell wall and prominently in the MLX; (d) determination of cell wall composition (pectin, neutral sugars, Ca-pectate) yielded similar results in both controls and ICA-strengthened tissue, implicating factors other than PME activity, Ca2+ or borate ions; (e) X-ray powder diffraction experiments revealed that the cellulose crystallinity in the cell wall is masked by pectin and neutral sugars (mainly galactan), whereas heat or enzymatic pectin degradation exposed the crystalline cellulose structure. Thus, we found that exclusively in ICA-strengthened tissue, heat-resistant pectin is evident in the presence of patatin and suberinlike agents, where the cellulose crystallinity was more hidden than in fresh control tissue. Conclusions: Stress response ICA-strengthening is simulated consistently by OAMs at pH< pKa, although PME and formation of Ca-pectate and RG-II-borate are inhibited. By contrast, at pH>pKa and particularly at pH 7, ICA-strengthening is mostly inhibited, although PME activity and formation of Ca-pectate or RG-II-borate are known to be facilitated. We found that upon stress, vacuolar patatin is released with cell sap leakage, allowing the patatin to associate with the pectin in both the primary cell wall and the MLX. The stress response also includes formation of covalently bound suberin-like polyesters within the insoluble cell wall. The experiments validated the hypotheses, thus led to a novel picture of the structural and molecular alterations responsible for the textural behavior of potato tuber. These findings represent a breakthrough towards understanding of the hardening syndrome, laying the groundwork for potato-handling strategies that assure textural quality of industrially processed particularly in fresh peeled cut tubers, ready-to-prepare and frozen preserved products.
