The Kong-zi jia-yu (“School Sayings of Confucius”) is an important historical source for the study of Confucius’ teachings. The text comprises Confucius’ sayings, records of his conversations with his students and other people, and also information regarding his life and deeds. Regardless of the factual cornucopia, the text remains almost completely unknown to Russian scholars. Equally, it has never been translated into Russian. The necessity to translate this historical source into Russian is obvious, at least because of the information regarding the life of Confucius (551–479 BC) and also the theory of his philosophy and belief system. The article offers the initial stage of the study of the Kong-zi jia-yu and comprises the Russian translation of the first two chapters. One of the tasks of the article is the identification of the sources the Kong-zi jia-yu is based upon. The translation is accompanied by the synopsis of the contents of the first five chapters, their composition and a source critical study about the information found in the Kong-zi jia-yu and the ancient Chinese works, such as Chun-qiu Zuo-zhuan, Xun-zi, Li-ji, Da Dai li-ji, Yi-wen-zi, Shuo-yuan. The study has proven that these texts should not be considered as sources of information for the first and second chapters of the Kong-zi jia-yu due to significant differences in detail description. It has been also established that the texts of the third, fourth and fifth chapters, which are philosophical dialogues to a large extent coincide with the chapters of Li-ji (chapters Ai-gong wen, Ru xing) and Da Dai li-ji (chapters Zhu yan, Ai-gong wen yu Kong-zi). However, regardless of these coincidences these texts still should not be considered as direct sources for the relevant chapters from the Kong-zi jia-yu. Most likely, the authors of all three chapters had recourse to the same source.

One of the unresolved issues in using the gasifier is the inability to determine the occurrence of the transition regime of fluidized bed. In modeling gas-solid phase, drag force is one of the main mechanisms for inter-phase momentum transfer. Thus, a simulation of fluidized bed was developed to study the effect of using various drag models over different bed height of H/D ratio such as 0.5, 1 and 2. A two dimensional model using Eulerian-Granular Multiphase Model (EGM) based on two fluid models have been used to simulate hydrodynamics of a bubbling fluidized beds. Gas-solid interactions are modeled via inter-phase of a drag model. The drag correlations of Gidaspow, Wen Yu, Syamlal-O'Brien, Hill Koch Ladd (HKL) and Representative Unit Cell (RUC) were implemented to simulate the interaction between phases. From this study, we found that different H/D ratio such as 0.5, 1 and 2 yields different volume fraction as increasing bed height slows kinetic transport of particle sand to the upper side of the bed. Besides that, different H/D ratio also resulted in different velocity vector. The results also show that Wen Yu and Syamlal-O'Brien are sufficient enough in detecting the change from one regime to another regardless of the bed height.

The ever-increasing requirements in the high-energy density of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) and current bottlenecks in cobalt supply place restrictions on the development of the state-of-the-art cathode materials with fine-tuned chemical composition by substituting the cobalt with nickel and manganese. In the layered structure ternary systems (LiNi1-y-zMnyCozO2, NCM), three transition-metal ions play a distinctive role that determines the physicochemical properties. A comprehensive understanding of the basic contribution of each transition metal is critical for further complete replacing expensive cobalt.[1] Here, we demonstrate cobalt and manganese behaviors by comparing various layered oxides with different chemical compositions to reveal their corresponding contributions.[2] Our results affirmed that cobalt plays an undeniable role in fast degradation, and found that cobalt is more destructive than Ni at high voltages. Even the possible instability induced by manganese (III) Jahn-Teller distortion [3], Mn(IV) substitution in the lattice can effectively alleviate this destructive and enables a high potential functionality. By further regulating the chemical composition with a concentration gradient strategy, Co-enriched surface and Mn-enriched core design in Ni-rich particles determines a robust structure, which can effectively suppress the owing to the low stiffness of the surface and stable structure in the core region. With these fundamental discoveries, we provide a guide for developing the promising Co-free cathodes to meet the increasing demand for high-energy density LIBs. References [1] M. Li, J. Lu. Abstract An important feature of Naitō Konan’s historiography is his progressive view of history. The development of this progressive view came not only from modern Western scholarship but also from early-modern Chinese and Japanese traditional scholarship. Examples of such Chinese scholarship are Du You’s Tong dian, Zhu Xi’s Zhuzi yu lei, Wang Yinglin’s Kunxue jiwen and Zhang Xuecheng’s Wen shi tong yi, which were all works that Naitō liked to read. This essay will show Naitō’s points of convergence with Zhang Xuecheng’s scholarship, in particular, his advocating that the Six Classics are all historical works, and will evaluate Naitō’s attempts to fi nd spiritual similarities between Chinese and Western scholarship.

Abstract Colorectal cancer is one of the most common cancer in the world. The mortality rate is the third among the top ten cancers. Among colorectal cancer patients, about 65-75% of patients have overexpression of epithelial growth factor receptors (EGFR). The antibody drug cetuximab that inhibits EGFR has also been developed. Moreover, overexpression of src protein is found in about 80% of patients with colorectal cancer. Higher levels of Src expression is related to the metastasis of colon cancer. Dasatinib is an oral taken tyrosine kinase inhibitor to inhibit the src phosphorylation. Therefore, in this study, the mechanism of cetuximab and dasatinib combined treatment in the orthotopic mouse model is investigated. The in vivo mechanism of EGFR and E-cadherin crosstalk in the mouse model is discussed. In this study, HT-29 colon cancer cells with BRAF V600E mutation were orthotopically injected into the cecum wall of BALB/c nude male mice. Two weeks later, cetuximab, dasatinib, and combined treatment of cetuximab and dasatinib were applied for three weeks. The tumor sizes were then recorded after sacrificed. Tumor Tissue were processed for tissue section with H&E staining. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) was applied to detect EGFR, p-Src, E-cadherin with specific antibodies. The protein expression levels were achieved by Western blot. In the results, the tumor size was smaller in cetuximab and dasatinib combined treated group. In IHC staining, the E-cadherin expression were not apparent in primary tumor site, however, were abundant in migrated cells. P-src expression was reduced in the dasatinib treated group and combined treatment group. In western blot result, the E-cadherin was increased after the treatment of dasatinib, and the p-src expression was inhibited after dasatinib treatment and combined treatment. Our results demonstrated cetuximab combined with dasatinib has the better result of suppression of BRAF mutated colon cancer cell growth and metastasis in the orthotopic mouse model. Abstract Collective cell migration is the cell cohort migrates toward the direction. Other than single cell migration, collective cell migration requires cell-cell connection with E-cadherin, however, E-cadherin is the epithelial marker in epithelial mesenchymal transition and acts as tumor suppressor function. Therefore, the role of E-cadherin in collective cell migration is still under investigated. In the collected cells, cell migration and cell division are coordinated for the cohort motility, the mechanism is still not clear. This study is to investigate the role of E-cadherin orientation in cell division dependent collective cell migration. Colorectal cancer cell line HT29 with epithelial morphology were used and treated with Cetuximab and Dasatinib to inhibit EGFR and Src activity. Cells were also incubated on fibronectin to monitor the matrix dependent environment. The polarity of E-cadherin distribution and cell contact inhibition were defined and detected by Immunofluorescence. The molecular expression of p-FAK, CDK4, and cell proliferation marker, Ki67 were revealed by Immunofluorescence confocal microscopy and Western blot. The collective cell migration is analyzed and compared by wound healing and transwell assay. In the results, the polarized distribution of E-cadherin in leading cells which revealed pFAK expression on the cell membrane was associated with Ki67 and CDK4 positive proliferated cells. When cells were grown on fibronectin, the proliferated cells in the leading were decreased. When cells were treated with cetuximab, the E-cadherin distribution were not changed and had fewer effect on cell migration. However, dasatinib treatment can modulate E-cadherin orientation and suppress cell proliferation and cell migration. These results suggested modulate E-cadherin orientation such as Src inhibition can be the potential treatment strategy in colon cancer Citation Format: Yu-Lin Li, Yu-Cheng Weng, Viriya Adhiguna Winarso, Yi-Wen Lu, Hui Min Koo, Xiang-Ling Hou, Kai-Yu Tseng, Wei-Ting Chao. The present paper compares the experimental results obtained from a research programme developed on a pilot-scale fluidized bed biofilm reactor and the outputs of a numeric simulation model; the mathematical model can determine the substrate concentration profile within the reactor. The experimental campaign investigated heterotrophic biological denitrification in anoxic conditions. The model is based on multi-substrate Michaelis-Menten kinetics and considers mass transport resistancephenomena within and outside bioparticles. A monodimensional model of the reactor taking into consideration, in steady-state condition, phenomena due to convective transport and turbulent diffusion has been used. The fluidization model applied to describe the behaviour of the biofilm-covered rigid particle bed is based on the Wen and Yu correlation.

Taiwan's major social movements in the past decade were reacting against the possibility of Taiwan's democratic freedoms being lost to China or its domestic proxies. The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), currently led by Tsai Ing-wen, have challenged the Kuomintang for power, but have not been able to move beyond the binary of for or against independence. The Sunflower movement and 'Third Force' parties sought to create a space for left and democratic politics, but this appears to be closing down. The Trumpian figure of Han Kuo-yu has been a major problem for the left. There is no easy way out of these dilemmas in an era characterised by increasing US-China tensions.

Abstract Cell adherens junction plays an important role in cell communication and regulation. E-cadherin is an important protein as adherens junctions. Loss of E-cadherin leads to epithelial cells transit to mesenchymal cells. Studies has demonstrated that E-cadherin dominates cell contact inhibition, which plays an important role in cell growth, however, recent studies demonstrated collective cell migration required E-cadherin expression escaping cell growth inhibition is important in metastasis. E-cadherin dynamics has been shown to be regulated by vesicle trafficking, however, the detail mechanism of vesicle trafficking in collective cell migration is not clear. This study is investigating the relationship between the endocytosis mechanism of E-cadherin and its dynamic expression resulting in collective cell migration. The expression of E-cadherin was controlled by regulating the concentration of calcium and EDTA to observe its effect on cell-cell contact. Through Transmission electron microscope, immunofluorescence staining and western blotting to observe the relationship between vesicle trafficking and E-cadherin. Collective cell migration is analyzed by transwell assay. When calcium concentration was increased, the E-cadherin in cell-cell contacts became stronger. Conversely, when EDTA concentration was increased, the E-cadherin in the cell-cell contacts became weaker. Meanwhile, we found colocalization occurs in Rab5 and Rab11 with E-cadherin. Besides, intracellular E-cadherin transported to the lysosome for degradation was also observed. We identified the role of E-cadherin is regulated in endocytosis mechanism and at cell-cell contacts through different regulatory, which provides a basis for the future use of drugs to affect E-cadherin expression to inhibit collective cell migration.

This summary report is based on the experimental and numerical research of thin-walled cross-section’s compression resistance and shear strength of their joints carried out in St. Petersburg State Polytechnical University and HAMK University of Applied Sciences, Sheet Metal Centre. Current situation on Russian market concerning the usage of cold-formed thin-walled cross-sections is aimed to find out a base foundation to start up a stipulation of the elements under discussion in the building industry (Kolesov et al. 2007; Peleshko, Urchenko 2009; Zhmarin 2012). Some questions about the compression resistance of such cross-sections were raised on different conferences (Vatin, Sinelnikov 2013; Winter 1952; Yu Wei-Wen et al. 1996) by scientific community and by companies such as Rautaruukki Oyj (Finland). Steel galvanized C-and U-profiles and thermo-profiles are types of thin-walled cross-sections that are normally used in small houses construction (Shatov 2011; Smaznov 2011). Thermo-profiles have slots in web that decrease the thermal flow through the web, but have a negative effect on strength of the profiles (Schafer, Pekoz 1998; Vatin, Popova 2006). These profiles were an object of the research. Investigations carried out included tests to prove the compression resistance of the thin-walled cross-sections and shear strength of stud-to-rack joints. Numerical modelling of thin-walled cross-sections (Cheng, Schafer 2007) was done with contemporary analysis software (SCAD Office, Lira) (Kriksunov et al. 2010; Perel'muter et al. 2009) using the finite element method (FEM) (Bayan et al. 2011; Gordeeva, Vatin 2011; Rasmussen 2009).

Over the last few years considerable attention has been devoted to biological fluidized-bed technology which seems to be potentially more advantageous than both dispersed biomass processes and fixed bed systems. An obstacle to the spreading of this technology is the lack of rigorous criteria in designing reactors, due to the poor knowledge of interconnections of fluid-dynamic aspects with kinetic ones. This paper reviews the rational basis for reactor design and reports on the experimental tests carried out in order to gain a better understanding in the areas of biofilm modelling and fluidization mechanics. In particular a biofilm model, in the general case of the Michaelis and Menten equation, was developed and its validity was verified utilizing experimental data obtained in nitrifying batch tests. As to fluidization mechanics the experimental work confirms the Wen and Yu(1966) approach to correlate the bed porosity with the superficial liquid velocity.

Abstract Collective cell migration is one of the most important cellular events where a cluster of cells moves together in a coordinated way. Many studies have found this phenomenon as the hallmark of cancer progression and metastasis. In epithelial single cell migration, downregulation of adherens junction (AJ) molecule E-cadherin occurs at the initial step known as the Epithelial to Mesenchymal Transition (EMT). However, in collective cell migration, E-cadherin junction is maintained to provide adhesion between cells. Moreover, it also mediates the cell-cell intercommunication that is critical, for instance, to alter the group polarization through actin cytoskeleton remodeling. Interestingly, Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR) was found to colocalize with E-cadherin in the cell-cell contact region, implicating that E-cadherin and EGFR might interact in the cell junction of collective cell migration. To address this, a human colorectal cancer cell line exhibiting epithelial phenotype HT-29 was used. The cell density and calcium presence were modified to infer the effect of differential expression and stability of E-cadherin on the cellular signaling of proliferation and migration. The results showed that stable and enhanced expression of E-cadherin downregulates EGFR expression and reduces its activity. Moreover, the Src phosphorylation increased when the cell-cell contact was strengthened via calcium addition and decreased when the cell-cell contact was diminished via calcium chelation. Overall, this indicates that E-cadherin expression at the cell-cell junction and contact stability determine the EGFR expression, activity, and Src phosphorylation. With the goal of deciphering the relationship of E-cadherin and EGFR in cell contact, proliferation, and migration, we intend to finally implement the knowledge as a strategy or approach in promoting alternative methods to inhibit metastasis. Abstract Cell migration is regulated by multiple molecular pathways to change the morphology from epithelial to mesenchymal type and is important in cancer metastasis. In has been demonstrated epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT) is related to E-cadherin expression level. The loss of E-cadherin expression results in tumor proliferation and metastasis. Recently, studies have been demonstrated the collective cancer cell migration which expresses high E-cadherin is a powerful mechanism of metastasis. Therefore, the role of E-cadherin in cancer metastasis is still not clear. Clathrin-mediated endocytosis (CME) was shown to regulate E-cadherin turnover on the membrane and the function of lysosome is also associated with cell vesicle trafficking, however, the role of lysosome in collective cell migration is not known. This study is investigating the role of lysosome in regulating E-cadherin dynamics through vesicle trafficking in collective colon cell migration. In the experiment, we used colon cancer cells with epithelial morphology and observed the relation of E-cadherin with endocytic protein clathrin, Rab5 and the recycling protein Rab11 in collective migrated cells. In the result, inhibition of lysosome activity by chloroquine treatment has great suppression effect on anchorage independent cell growth and inhibited collective cell migration. We observed that nocodazole treatment inhibited clathrin-mediated endocytosis, which caused E-cadherin to accumulate on the cell membrane. Western blot and confocal microscopy demonstrated chloroquine treatment induced Rab11 expression and accumulated in the cytosol which affected E-cadherin turnover. Our results demonstrated inhibits lysosome activity can suppress colon cancer cell growth and collective migration through lysosome mediated E-cadherin translocation. Chloroquine may be the potential treatment for colon cancer therapy. keywords: colon cancer, collective cell migration, E-cadherin, vesicle trafficking, lysosome Citation Format: Xiang-Ling Hou, Hui Min Koo, Yu-Cheng Weng, Yi-Wen Lu, Viriya Adhiguna Winarso, Yu-Lin Li, Wei-Ting Chao. Simulation of the velocity field of gas-solid-liquid three-phase flow inside and outside the abrasive water jet nozzle was studied by the computational fluid dynamics software (CFD). The complicated velocity field of the flow in the abrasive water jet (AWJ) nozzle and the abrasive track in the nozzle were obtained. In the course of the simulation, the inter-phase drag exchange coefficient model uses Gidaspow model (gas-solid), Wen-yu model (water-solid), Schiller-Naumann model (water-gas) respectively. The simulation results indicate that the swirl is produced in the nozzle and the abrasives are accelerated and moved around the swirl, and they are all distributed along the inner surface of the nozzle, the gas is mostly distributed in the center of swirl. The dispersion of the flow happens when it flows out of the nozzle, it can be divided into three zones, that is core zone, middle zone and border zone. At the core zone the velocity changes little while the velocity changes greatly at the middle zone, the velocity fluctuates greatly at the border zone.

Abstract Bone metastasis is a frequent complication of breast cancer, occurring in about 50-70% of breast cancer patients with late-stage disease. The lack of effective therapy suggests that the precise molecular mechanisms underlying bone metastasis are still unclear. Enhancer of zeste homolog 2 (EZH2) is considered a breast cancer oncogene and its expression is correlated with metastasis of breast cancer, but its function in bone metastasis has not been well explored. Herein we report that EZH2 promotes osteolytic metastasis of breast cancer through regulating transforming growth factor beta (TGFβ) signaling, a key pathway in bone metastasis. Knocking down EZH2 decreases bone metastasis incidence and outgrowth in vivo. EZH2 induces cancer cell proliferation and osteoclast maturation, when breast cancer cells are co-cultured with osteoblasts and osteoclasts together in vitro. Mechanistically, EZH2 increases transcription of ITGB1, which encodes for integrin β1. Integrin β1 activates focal adhesion kinase (FAK), which phosphorylates TGFβ receptor type I (TGFβRI) at tyrosine 182, thus enhances the binding of TGFβRI to TGFβ receptor type II (TGFβRII), therefore activates Smad2 and increases parathyroid hormone-like hormone (PTHLH) expression. Clinically applicable FAK inhibitors but not EZH2 methyltransferase inhibitor effectively inhibits breast cancer bone metastasis in vivo. Overall, our data signify integrin β1-FAK as a new downstream effector of EZH2 in breast cancer cells, and EZH2-integrin β1-FAK axis cooperates with TGFβ signaling pathway to promote bone metastasis of breast cancer. Accurate prediction of the hydrodynamic profile is important for circulating fluidized bed (CFB) reactor design and scale-up. Multiphase computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation with interphase momentum exchange is key to accurately predict the gas-solid profile along the height of the riser. The present work deals with the assessment of six different drag model capability to accurately predict the riser section axial solid holdup distribution in bench scale circulating fluidized bed. The difference between six drag model predictions were validated against the experiment data. Two-dimensional geometry, transient solver and Eulerian–Eulerian multiphase models were used. Six drag model simulation predictions were discussed with respect to axial and radial profile. The comparison between CFD simulation and experimental data shows that the Syamlal-O’Brien, Gidaspow, Wen-Yu and Huilin-Gidaspow drag models were successfully able to predict the riser upper section solid holdup distribution with better accuracy, however unable to predict the solid holdup transition region. On the other hand, the Gibilaro model and Helland drag model were successfully able to predict the bottom dense region, but the upper section solid holdup distribution was overpredicted. The CFD simulation comparison of different drag model has clearly shown the limitation of the drag model to accurately predict overall axial heterogeneity with accuracy.

Background. Pulmonary fibrosis (PF) is a devastating lung disease, resulting in gas exchange dysfunction until death. The two drugs approved by the FDA, pirfenidone and nintedanib, have obvious side effects. Wen-yu-jin (WYJ), one of the commonly used herbs in China, can treat respiratory diseases. The potential effects and the underlying mechanism of WYJ against PF are unclear. Purpose. Employing network pharmacology, molecular docking, and in vivo and in vitro experiments to explore the potential effects and underlying mechanisms of WYJ in the treatment of PF. Methods. Ultra-high pressure liquid chromatography combined with linear ion trap-orbital tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-LTQ-orbital trap) was used to identify compounds of WYJ. We got PF-related targets and WYJ compounds-related targets from public databases and further completed critical targets exploration, network construction, and pathway analysis by network pharmacology. Molecular docking predicted binding activity of WYJ compounds and critical targets. Based on the above results, in vivo and in vitro experiments validated the potential effects and mechanisms of WYJ against PF. Results. 23 major compositions of WYJ were identified based on UHPLC-LTQ-Orbitrap. According to the results of network pharmacology, STAT3, SRC, IL6, MAPK1, AKT1, EGFR, MAPK8, MAPK14, and IL1B are critical therapeutic targets. Molecular docking results showed that most of the compounds have good binding activities with critical targets. The results of in vivo and in vitro experiments showed that WYJ alleviated the process of fibrosis by targeting MAPK and STAT3 pathways. Conclusion. Network pharmacology, molecular docking, and in vivo and in vitro experiments showed the potential effects and mechanisms of WYJ against PF, which provides a theoretical basis for the treatment of WYJ with PF.

Curcuma wenyujin is a traditional medicinal plant in China. The non-steamed rhizomes, steamed rhizomes and steamed roots of this plant are used as herbal medicines in three clinics, namely Pian-jiang-huang (PJH), Wen-e-zhu (WEZ), and Wen-yu-jin (WYJ), and are officially listed in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia. The purpose of this study was to conduct a comparative analysis of the three essential oils extracted from the C. wenyujin rhizomes and roots using GC-MS, and in doing so thirty compounds were identified. Principal component analysis (PCA) effectively distinguished the samples taken from the three different groups. Monoterpenoids, including camphene, linalool, camphor, isoborneol, borneol and eucalyptol, were characteristic components of the PJH oil, while β-elemene, β-elemenone, γ-elemene and δ-elemene were typical components of the WEZ oil, and propanenitrile, caryophyllene oxide, (-)-caryophyllene, germacrene B, pogostol and α-humulene were representative ingredients of the WYJ oil. The ratio of sesquiterpenoids to monoterpenoids in PJH, WEZ, and WYJ were 2:1, 5:1 and 7:1, respectively. The antimicrobial activities of the three essential oils and of the six main ingredients were tested against two bacterial and one fungal strains using agar diffusion and broth dilution methods. The essential oil of PJH was shown to present a higher antimicrobial activity than that of WEZ and WYJ. Based on the Partial Least Square Model (PLS), the correlation between the antimicrobial activity of the tested oils and the identified chemical components was discussed and potential components of the antimicrobial activity were predicted according to Variable Importance in the Project (VIP) Value. The tested monoterpenes eucalyptol and isoborneol demonstrated a higher inhibitory activity than the sesquiterpenes germacrone, curdione and β-elemene. Therefore, the potent inhibitory effect of the PJH oil might be attributed to its higher content of monoterpenes. The MIC values for the essential oils and their ingredients ranged from 62.5 to 500 μg/mL.

This article is a preliminary study of the silk diagram of the mourning system excavated from Mawangdui tomb three (dated to 168 b.c.e.) in 1973. Although it is the earliest precisely dated document of one of the most enduring social institutions in Chinese history, this mourning diagram has received little scholarly attention. Through analyzing its structure, inscriptions, kinship terms, and cosmological symbolism, and comparing it with relevant Warring States and contemporary Han sources, the author has reconstructed the diagram based strictly on evidence internal to the diagram itself. The author then explains the cosmological and numerological significance of the Mawangdui mourning system, and, through rereading passages in Lun yu 17/21, the “Sannian wen” chapter in the Li ji, the “Li lun” in the Xunzi, and the testamentary decree of Emperor Wen (d. 157 b.c.e.), he discusses the multiple ways of justifying mourning practices during the Warring States and early Han periods and the changing interpretations of the cosmological/numerological basis of the mourning system by later text-based scholars, such as Zheng Xuan and Wang Su. Finally, the author discusses the nature and function of the diagram as the source of ritual diagrams illustrating a text in the Chinese classical exegetical tradition. This Mawangdui diagram is a schematic representation of the mourning system with its basic numerological principles and cosmological significance. As a kinship chart, it illustrates the five degrees of mourning, which characterize the scope of close kinship in early Han China. It depicts a mourning tradition similar to those recorded in the Yi li and the Li ji, but represents differently in degrees of mourning that people, especially married-out daughters and their children, were obligated to observe for the death of a relative. It is thus invaluable for us to understand the historical formation of the Chinese mourning tradition and subsequent ritual manuals and legal codes, and it provides new materials for the sociological study of issues concerning Han family structure, the nature of descent groups, women's position, and patrilinealism.

Abstract Background: Biomarkers that could predict the beneficial effects of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in combination with chemotherapy in treatment-naive advanced or recurrent gastric or gastroesophageal junction (G/GEJ) adenocarcinoma patients are lacking. Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of patients with G/GEJ adenocarcinoma who had undergone first-line treatment with programmed death-1 (PD-1) inhibitor plus chemotherapy between October 2017 and July 2021. Comparative analysis of the objective response rate (ORR) was performed using the Chi-square or Fisher’s exact tests. Survival curves were plotted by the Kaplan-Meier analysis and compared for significance with a log-rank test. Univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazard models were established for evaluating the prognostic value of clinicopathological factors. Results: Of the 172 enrolled patients, 142 showed measurable lesions. The ORR was 52.8%. Higher response rates were observed in patients with age greater than or equal to 60 (p = 0.013), non-diffuse type (p < 0.001), synchronous metastasis (p = 0.029), distant lymph node metastasis (p = 0.002), non-peritoneal metastasis (p= 0.002), HER2 positivity (p = 0.002), and PD-L1 CPS greater than or equal to 5 (p = 0.017). Through univariate analysis, age, histology, number of metastatic sites, and peritoneal metastasis were found to be associated with progression-free survival (PFS). Through multivariate analysis, peritoneal metastasis occurrence was the only identified independent indicator of poor PFS (HR 2.768, 95% CI 1.184-6.472, p = 0.019). Additionally, multi-factor combination results showed that patients with at least one of the following: mismatch repair-deficient (D-MMR)/microsatellite instability-high (MSI-H), HER2 (+), EBV (+), and/or PD-L1 CPS greater than or equal to 5, exhibited higher response rates and longer PFS as compared to those lacking these factors; this benefit was consistent after excluding PD-L1 expression. Among the clinical combinatorial factors, significantly poor ORRs and lower PFS were observed in patients with age < 60, diffuse type, and peritoneal metastasis as compared to those without any of these factors. Conclusions: Peritoneal metastasis was an independent biomarker of poor efficacy to immunotherapy combined with chemotherapy in G/GEJ cancer patients in first-line setting. Some combination factors could be beneficial for efficacy prediction. Climate change and the resultant extreme weather events have disrupted agricultural ecosystems. In South Taiwan, serious droughts and unpredictable, heavy rainfall have caused slope sliding at lowland areas and led to significant agricultural and economic loss. A team of researchers led by Professor Tzen-Yuh Chiang, that includes Dr Tsai-Wen Hsu and Professor Yu-Chung Chiang, and is based at the University Social Responsibility, National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan, wants to drive change in farming practices in the Dong Shan district, Taiwan. In work supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology in Taiwan, the team is introducing a combination of natural and microbial farming practices. As such, the researchers have isolated and reformulated microbial fertilisers in the lab and applied them to enforce the health of crop roots. They have found that many insects and birds are now back on the farm, acting as biological control, which removes the need for pesticides. The overall goal of the project is to rebuild the vegetation and natural ecosystem along the slopes of lowlands. Key to this is stopping slope exploration, along with using microbial farming practices to enforce and ensure the health of crops. The project's success also relies on the use of microbial technology to culture microbes with sterile medium, which can then be used as fertilisers. This important work will help to integrate knowledge and policy about the agricultural environment and the agricultural economy.

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) have been extensively used to simulate the hydrodynamics of multiphase flows (MPFs) in rotating machinery. In the presence of a granular dense phase, the Kinetic Theory of Granular Flow (KTGF) is usually coupled to Eulerian multi-fluid models to obtain tractable computational fluid models. In the present work, the hydrodynamic behavior of a three dimensional, industrial scale, and rotating drum granulator with gas–solid flows is assessed using the Eulerian–Eulerian approach coupled with the k-ε standard turbulence model. A Eulerian–Eulerian Two-Fluid Model (TFM) is used with the KTGF model for the granular phase. The sensitivities to different operating parameters, including the rotational speed (8, 16, and 24 rpm), inclination degree (3.57∘, 5.57∘, and 7.57∘), and degree of filling (20%, 30%, and 40%) are studied. Moreover, the impact of the drag model on the simulation accuracy is investigated. The flow behavior, regime transitions, and particle distribution are numerically evaluated, while varying the operating conditions and the drag models. The rotational speed and filling degree appear to have greater influences on the granulation effectiveness than on the inclination degree. Three drag models are retained in our analysis. Both the Gidaspow and Wen and Yu models successfully predict the two-phase flow in comparison to the Syamlal and O’Brien model, which seems to underestimate the hydrodynamics of the flow in both its axial and radial distributions (a fill level less than 35%). The methodology followed in the current work lays the first stone for the optimization of the phosphates fertilizer wet-granulation process within an industrial installation.

Leung, L. Stan and Hui-Wen Yu. Theta-frequency resonance in hippocampal CA1 neurons in vitro demonstrated by sinusoidal current injection. J. Neurophysiol. 79: 1592–1596, 1998. Sinusoidal currents of various frequencies were injected into hippocampal CA1 neurons in vitro, and the membrane potential responses were analyzed by cross power spectral analysis. Sinusoidal currents induced a maximal (resonant) response at a theta frequency (3–10 Hz) in slightly depolarized neurons. As predicted by linear systems theory, the resonant frequency was about the same as the natural (spontaneous) oscillation frequency. However, in some cases, the resonant frequency was higher than the spontaneous oscillation frequency, or resonance was found in the absence of spontaneous oscillations. The sharpness of the resonance ( Q), measured by the peak frequency divided by the half-peak power bandwidth, increased from a mean of 0.44 at rest to 0.83 during a mean depolarization of 6.5 mV. The phase of the driven oscillations changed most rapidly near the resonant frequency, and it shifted about 90° over the half-peak bandwidth of 8.4 Hz. Similar results were found using a sinusoidal function of slowly changing frequency as the input. Sinusoidal currents of peak-to-peak intensity of >100 pA may evoke nonlinear responses characterized by second and higher harmonics. The theta-frequency resonance in hippocampal neurons in vitro suggests that the same voltage-dependent phenomenon may be important in enhancing a theta-frequency response when hippocampal neurons are driven by medial septal or other inputs in vivo.

Let [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] be real numbers. The run-length function of [Formula: see text]-expansions denoted by [Formula: see text] is defined as the maximal length of consecutive zeros in the first [Formula: see text] digits of the [Formula: see text]-expansion of [Formula: see text]. It is known that for Lebesgue almost all [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] increases to infinity with the logarithmic speed [Formula: see text] as [Formula: see text] goes to infinity. In this paper, we calculate the Hausdorff dimension of the subtle set for which [Formula: see text] grows to infinity with other speeds. More precisely, we prove that for any [Formula: see text], the set [Formula: see text] has full Hausdorff dimension, where [Formula: see text] is a strictly increasing function satisfying that [Formula: see text] is non-increasing, [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] as [Formula: see text]. Abstract Background: METex14 mutations was reported in 3~4% of NSCLC patients and became a new target in the treatment of NSCLC. SCC244 is a highly selective and potent oral MET inhibitor. This is the first report of data from an ongoing single-arm phase II study of SCC244 in NSCLC patients with METex14 mutations (GLORY study). Methods: GLORY study is an open label, international, multi-center, single-arm phase II study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of SCC244 in patients with locally advanced or metastatic NSCLC harboring METex14 mutations which was confirmed by central laboratory. The enrolled patients have either failed one or two prior lines of systemic therapies or been not eligible/refused chemotherapy after being well-informed. SCC244 was taken orally at a dose of 300 mg once daily in 21-day treatment cycles until disease progression or intolerable toxicity. Tumor was evaluated every 6 weeks for the first 8 treatment cycles and every 9 weeks thereafter. The primary endpoint was objective response rate (ORR) assessed by blinded independent review committee (BIRC) per RECIST 1.1, secondary endpoints include ORR by investigator assessment (INV), duration of response (DoR), time to response (TTR) and safety etc. Post-hoc analysis was done to explore the intracranial anti-tumor activity. Results: At data cut-off on May 6th, 2021, a total 73 patients screened from 163 patients in 42 sites were treated at 300 mg QD dose and had ≥2 post-baseline tumor assessments or discontinued for any reason. 69 of them were with METex14 mutation confirmed by central laboratory. In the 69 patients, ORR by BIRC was 60.9% (95% CI: 48.4%, 72.4%) overall, 66.7% (95% CI: 50.5, 80.4) and 51.9% (95% CI: 31.9, 71.3) in treatment naïve and previously treated patients respectively. Median DoR was 8.2 months (95% CI: 4.8, NE) and median PFS was 7.6 months (95% CI: 4.2, NE), tumor response from 30 of 42 responders was still ongoing. The response occurred fast with a median TTR of 1.4 months (range: 1.2, 4.2). Partial response was observed in 8 of 10 patients with brain metastasis. 5 patients who had brain metastasis selected as targeted lesion had intracranial response by INV with a median intracranial tumor shrinkage of 57% (range: 34%, 71%). The most common (≥20%) treatment-related adverse events (TRAEs) of any grade were peripheral edema, headache, nausea, loss of appetite, hypoalbuminemia, ALT increase and vomiting. The incidence of ≥ grade 3 TRAEs was 43.8%. TRAEs leading to treatment discontinuation occurred in 6.8% patients, among which peripheral edema was the most common (4.1%). Conclusions: The data shows high and robust efficacy of SCC244 in NSCLC patients with METex14 mutations across treatment lines and encouraging intracranial anti-tumor activity. The safety profile was favorable with manageable toxicity. The data supports SCC244 as a valuable targeted treatment option for METex14 NSCLC patients. Abstract A multiphase-Eulerian, three-dimensional (3-D), computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model was built to investigate the local hydrodynamics of a pilot-scale (0.29 m ID, 3 m height) Slurry Bubble Column Reactor (SBCR). The model was first validated against the gas holdup radial profiles in an air-water-glass beads system obtained in a 0.254 m ID and 2.5 m height column under ambient conditions at various superficial gas velocities by Yu and Kim (Bubble characteristics in the radial direction of three-phase fluidized beds. AIChE Journal 34, 2069–2072, 1988). The model was next validated against the gas holdup radial profile data for N2-Drakeol-glass beads system obtained in a 0.44 m ID and 2.44 m height reactor, including internals, operating under ambient conditions at various superficial gas velocities by Chen et al. (Fluid dynamic parameters in bubble columns with internals. Chemical Engineering Science 54, 2187–2197, 1999). The model was also validated against experimental data obtained in our lab for N2-Fischer Tropsch (F-T) reactor wax-Fe catalyst system obtained in a pilot-scale, Slurry Bubble column Reactor, SBCR (0.29 m ID, 3 m height) under pressures and temperatures up to 25.9 bar and 490 K, respectively. These three validations led to the selection of the turbulence and interphase drag coefficient models, and the optimization of the solution method, mesh size and structure and the step size. Moreover, the inclusion of RNG k-ε turbulence model coupled with the Wen-Yu (Mechanics of Fluidization. Chemical Engineering Progress Symposium Series 62, 100–111, 1966) / Schiller-Naumann (A drag coefficient correlation. Zeitung Ver. Deutsch. Ing 77, 318–320, 1935) drag correlations, and the mass transfer coefficients were found to provide the most accurate predictions of the experimental data. The CFD model was then used to investigate local gas holdup, liquid recirculation, local turbulence intensities, bubble diameters, and solids distribution throughout our pilot-scale SBCR, operating under typical F-T process conditions. The model predictions showed strong liquid recirculation and backmixing near the walls of the reactor, and the solid-phase velocity vectors closely followed those of the liquid-phase. A relatively high liquid turbulence intensities were observed in the vicinity of the sparger upon startup, however, after reaching a steady state, the liquid turbulence intensities became more evenly distributed throughout the reactor. The liquid turbulence intensities were slightly higher near the center of the reactor, and closely resembled the velocity vectors. Also, the Sauter mean bubble diameters increased, whereas the solids distribution decreased with reactor height above the gas distributor.

Abstract Backgrounds: Since human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive breast cancers may have different HER2/CEP17 ratios and HER2 copy numbers, outcomes of HER2-positive breast cancer patients treated with anti-HER2 neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) may be different. The aim of this study is to explore the relationship between different groups of HER2 fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) positive patterns and response to anti-HER2 NACT. Methods: 513 HER2-positive invasive breast cancers who received anti-HER2 NACT in Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center, during January 2015 to September 2020, were collected. According to FISH results, 513 patients were divided into three groups. Group A: HER2/CEP17 < 2.0 and HER2 average copy number ≥6.0; Group B: HER2/CEP17≥2.0 and HER2 average copy number ≥4.0 and < 6.0; Group C: HER2/CEP17≥2.0 and HER2 average copy number ≥6.0. Clinicopathological characteristics and pathological complete response(pCR) rates of three groups were analyzed. Results: All 513 patients were treated with anti-HER2 NACT. The anti-HER2 treatment included trastuzumab in 463 (90.3%) patients, trastuzumab plus pertuzumab in 21 (4.1%) patients, trastuzumab plus lapatinib in 3 (0.6%) patients, and trastuzumab plus pyrotinib in 1 (0.2%) patient. 25 (4.9%) cases were unblinded in clinical trials, who were treated either with trastuzumab plus pertuzumab or with trastuzumab plus pyrotinib. Among 513 patients, 237 cases (46.2%)were luminal B (hormone receptor positive and HER2 positive) and 276 cases (53.8%) were hormone receptor negative and HER2 overexpressed (HER2 overexpression type). According to IHC results, cases with HER2 1+,2+ and 3+ were 8 (1.6%), 123 (24.0%) and 382(74.5%), respectively. Among them, 0.0%, 25.2%, and 48.7% achieved pCR (p<0.001). The pCR rate of HER2 overexpression type was higher than that of luminal B type (54.0% vs 28.7%, P<0.001). Lymph nodes with metastasis after NACT in luminal B type was higher than that of HER2 overexpression type (43.0% vs 21.4%, P<0.001). According to HER2-FISH results, 11 cases (2.1%) were group A, 28 cases (5.5%) were group B and 474 cases (92.4%) were group C. Compared with the pCR rate of group A (36.4%) and group C (44.5%), the pCR rate in group B (7.1%) was significantly lower (p<0.001). Conclusions: Among HER2-positive breast cancers, HER2 protein expression level was positively correlated with pCR rate. Luminal B(HER2+)patients benefited less from anti-HER2 NACT than HER2 overexpression patients. Although all were invasive breast cancers with positive HER2-FISH results, patients with HER2/CEP17≥2.0 and HER2 copy number ≥4.0 and <6.0 seemed to respond less favorably to anti-HER2 NACT compared with other groups. The biological characteristics of this group of patients are worthy of further study.
