The paper presents the results of numerical analysis and in-situ measurements of two railway bridge spans subjected to an action of moving vehicles. The railway vehicle is introduced using four simplified load models: series of concentrated forces, series of lumped masses and series of single-mass and two-mass oscillators. Numerical simulations are performed using FE method. The dynamic parameters of the vehicle and the bridge models are determined on the basis of modal identification results of existing structures – EN57 traction unit and steel bridges of 10 and 30 m theoretical span length.

After reading Lieberman’s (2005) article on nested analysis, I was eager to test the purported benefits by adopting this multi-method approach in my dissertation research (Kauffman 2012). After using it, I am even more convinced of Lieberman’s assertion that both quantitative and qualitative methodologies “can inform each other to the extent that the analytic payoff is greater than the sum of the parts” (2005: 436). This paper presents 3D reconstruction of fabric surface with the pills, detection of the pills and qualitative evaluation of pilling with the help of spatial data analysis. 3D reconstruction of fabric surface is performed with the help of gradient fields method. The surface pills are extracted from 3D image by techniques of image analysis. Consequently, the tools of spatial data analysis as K function, density and test are used for experiment of qualitative evaluation of pills distribution in the space.
