Placental vascular development (angiogenesis) is critical for placental function and thus for normal embryonic/fetal growth and development. Specific environmental factors or use of assisted reproductive techniques may result in poor placental angiogenesis, which may contribute to embryonic losses and/or fetal growth retardation. Uterine tissues were collected on days 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, and 30 after mating and on day 10 after estrus (nonpregnant controls) to determine vascular development and expression of several factors involved in the regulation of angiogenesis in the endometri

Abstract The objective was to determine fetal mammary gland vascularity following dietary melatonin supplementation in late pregnant nutrient restricted Brangus heifers carrying female fetuses from two different seasons (spring calving, n = 12; fall calving, n = 13). Heifers were assigned one of four nutritional treatments at day 160 of gestation; adequate fed (ADQ-CON; 100% NRC; n = 6), nutrient restricted (RES-CON; 60% NRC; n = 6), adequate fed with 20 mg of melatonin (ADQ-MEL; n = 6), and nutrient restricted with 20 mg of melatonin (RES-MEL; n = 7). The vascularity of placental tissue is dependent on various factors of which fetomaternal hypoxia plays a major role. Hypoxia can be of different types and each type influences the vascularity of the villi, especially terminal villi, in its own way. In this study, we attempted to identify villous vascular changes in a group of term placentae from mothers with diseases complicating pregnancy. Chorangiosis was the most frequently identified lesion while chorangioma was found in only 2 cases. There were no cases of chorangiomatosis. A few cases had normal villous vasculature. The fraction of the volume of the coronal pulp of cat canines that is occupied by blood vessels was estimated by measurement of the cross-sectional areas of all the vessels in a complete transverse section of the pulp from each of four teeth. The sections were taken 0.5 mm from the pulp comu. Overall, 14.4% of the area of the pulp was occupied by vessels. In the core of the pulp, the average value was 42.9%, and superficially, near the odontoblast layer, it was between 5 and 10%. The average capillary density was 1402 /mm2, which is higher than in most other tissues. Laser Doppler flow meters

Gas transfer in the female lung varies over the menstrual cycle in parallel with the cyclic angiogenesis that occurs in the uterine endometrium. Given that vessels form and regress in the uterus under the control of hormones, angiogenic factors, and proangiogenic circulating bone marrow-derived progenitor cells, we tested the possibility that variation in pulmonary gas transfer over the menstrual cycle is related to a systemic cyclic proangiogenic state that influences lung vascularity. Women were evaluated over the menstrual cycle with weekly measures of lung diffusing capacity and its compon

Abstract Abstract 857 A sufficient vascular supply is critical for proper physiologic function of solid-tissue organs and bone. Tissue vascularity is mediated concomitantly through vascular patency and angiogenesis. Recently, numerous studies have associated plasminogen, the key fibrinolytic protease of the coagulation system, with maintaining vascular patency by preventing fibrin accumulation with in the vasculature. Additionally, plasminogen may also have a direct role in angiogenesis as it has been shown in vitro that inhibitors of plasmin(ogen) suppress formation of capillary structures fr

ABSTRACT Capillary hemangioma also known as lobular capillary hemangioma (LCH) or pyogenic granuloma is a benign, vascular lesion of unknown origin, composed of blood vessels and are probably developmental rather than neoplastic in origin. They usually affect skin and mucous membranes of the oral cavity and rarely nasal mucosa. LCH bleeds on manipulations due to high vascularity. Microtraumas and hormonal imbalance are the major etiological factors in its development. Total excisional surgery is sufficient for treatment of the LCH. Capillary hemangioma arising from the nasal cavity is rarely e

Synovial sarcomas are rare soft tissue tumors which histopathologically can be divided into monophasic, biphasic and mixed variants. As part of a protocol for intra-arterial chemotherapy 12 patients with biopsy proven synovial sarcoma underwent angiography. The angiograms on these patients were reviewed to determine whether synovial sarcomas and their variants demonstrated a characteristic angiographic appearance. Synovial sarcomas appeared angiographically as soft tissue masses which showed a fine network of tumor vessels with an inhomogeneous capillary blush. Their degree of vascularity vari

Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A) is useful for quantitative analyses of different choroidal and retinal vascular plexuses. Highlighting postoperative choroidal and retinal perfusion outcomes in patients who have undergone successful tractional retinal detachment (TRD) repair is crucial for understanding the impact of this condition on postoperative visual acuity. This chapter describes postoperative perfusion outcomes, such as vessel density (VD) quantified in the superficial and deep capillary plexuses of the retina and choroidal perfusion markers, such as the choroidal vascul
