Physical activity during childhood and adolescence favors brain development and cognitive functioning, particularly the executive functions. This study aimed to assess potential associations between anthropometric parameters, physical activity, physical fitness, and executive functions among elementary school children returning to school after the COVID-19 lockdown in Chile. School-age male and female participants (n = 90; age, 10–12 years) participated in the study. To determine the association between variables, a multivariable linear regression analysis was performed. Higher fat-related anthropometric indexes were associated with lower working memory, cognitive flexibility, planning, and attention (r = −0.55 to −0.22; p = 0.031 to <0.001). In contrast, higher physical activity levels, better sprint performance, higher lower-body muscular power, and greater upper-body muscular strength were associated with better working memory, cognitive flexibility, inhibition, planning, and/or attention (r = 0.19 to −0.54; p = 0.04 to <0.001). Current results consistently suggest the need for adequate levels of physical activity, physical fitness, and anthropometric parameters among the school-age population to promote healthy and adequate executive functions.

The purpose of the article is to analyze the historical experience of the functioning and development of the private higher school of Ukraine in the beginning of the XX century. The article analyzes the historiography of the problem, highlights the main stages of the formation of a system of non-state higher education institutions in the early twentieth century, reveals the social functions of private higher education in this period. Special attention is paid to the innovative potential of non-state higher education. The implementation of the objectives of this study led to the conclusion that as of the beginning of the twentieth century private higher school pursued scientific and educational, rather than commercial, functions and performed a number of important social functions. In this period, public and private higher schools were not just an aggregate, but a system of educational institutions, which included both university-type institutions (Yekaterinoslav University, higher women’s courses) and specialized institutes. At the same time, the most intensive growth rates of private higher education occurred in 1917-1918, which is associated with the liberalization of all spheres of public life. In addition to training specialists in the most popular areas, private and public higher education institutions played an important role in ensuring the universal right to higher education. The non-state sector of higher education has played a leading role in the implementation of educational innovations. The main forms of innovation in private higher education were: introducing new directions of training, implementing joint training for men and women, testing the principles of lifelong education, and creating educational institutions designed to meet the national and cultural needs of various ethnic groups.

The aim of the study was to adapt the students' grades to all levels by evaluating the motor skills. The survey was conducted on a sample of 93 respondents (M = 48; F = 45), from the elementary school "Bosko Plakovljevic Pinki" from Sremska Mitrovica, aged 13-14 years. The results of the multivariate analysis of variance indicate the existence of statistically significant differences (P = .00) in the motor space of students of different sexes. Individual analysis of the difference was observed in variables Running 20 m from the high start (p = .03) and Raising of the hull for 30 s (p = .00) for the benefit of the boys and in the variation of sediment in the sediment multiplied (p = .00) for the benefit of girls . Evaluation showed a higher level of expression of power and speed in a boy caused by the consequences of the level of physical activity of this population, and in girls the higher manifestation level of the expression of flexibility, which is caused by the biological body of the body. This approach to teaching physical education allows for better planning and organization of classes with pupils of older primary school classes, potentially increasing the number of children at classes of physical education, since on the basis of initial evaluation, the plan and program of work can be adjusted accordingly with the students according to the motor potential.

The article substantiates the relevance of the problem of forming a linguistic and cultural personality at a higher school, although this problem is not new. Obviously, the strategies used before were either ineffective or not very actively implemented into practice. A closer look at the problem allows actualizing it, finding those aspects that were obviously not taken into account, and, therefore, focusing on them. Emphasis is put on the subjects that have the strongest potential in the formation of a linguistic and cultural personality. It is emphasized that the majority of the citizens of our state and young people, including those who were formed by our secondary school and later become students of higher schools, unfortunately have a misconception about the functions of their native language: they believe that its main function is communicative, they do not sometimes know about others. Hence the lack of understanding of the role of language in the formation of consciousness, intelligence, and worldview in general, and these factors are of global importance for understanding the security, strategic, and nation-building significance of the native language. The common phenomenon of diglossia is emphasized, the reasons caused it are pointed out, and the features of a high-level linguistic and cultural personality that everyone can develop in themselves to avoid diglossic situations are characterized. Such phenomena as jargon and slang are widespread among young people, and most of those who use them are convinced that only Russian vocabulary can be used in these forms of language. The Ukrainian language, developing as a living organism, serves the needs of different strata of the population, has a rich vocabulary and virtually unlimited possibilities, can undoubtedly be used to create surzhik and slang concepts - this is a normal process of language development, indicating its versatility and unlimited capacity. Emphasis is placed on the formation of a linguistic and cultural personality while teaching technical disciplines.

The present study is focused on testing the computer game system ‘PL-modified’ as a diagnostic tool for measurement of higher-order cognitive skills by middle-school students in individual and collaborative game. The ‘PL-modified’ is a computer system designed as a game which implies a set of concrete parameters specially elaborated for assessment of the cognitive actions of analysis, planning, and reflection — the basic higher-order cognitive functions which determine high achievements in school education according to the Russian theory of developmental education. 189 middle-school students at the age of 11—12 years participated in this study. Two research questions were asked: 1) whether the cognitive actions of analysis, planning, and reflection measured by special markers of the computer game system performance are correlated with each other as a valid indicator for the new constructed diagnostic instrument; 2) which type of the game — individual or collaborative — provides better conditions for manifestation of the above mentioned higher mental actions. Abstract intelligence as an additional anticipated factor for high game performance was also assessed and controlled. It was revealed that participants exhibit the higher level of the cognitive actions of analysis and planning in collaborative game. At the same time the patterns of the interactions between the researched variables as well as distinct parameters of game performance are determined by the concrete level of intelligence which rather varies in different pairs of collaborators. We discuss our results from the position of the further prospects for the application of the ‘Pl-modified’ computer system as a potential instrument of measurement and development of higher-order thinking actions. In terms of the modern educational programs teachers need simple diagnostic tools for measurement of school-children’s thinking development. Traditional ‘pen-and-paper’ techniques become quickly outdated as much as they may not be sufficiently motivationally attractive for children and focus only on the result of the thinking process. In this regard, such diagnostic instrument formed in the format of a computer game and centered on the whole gaming process allows fixing children’s actions and provides important information on the dynamic characteristics of their mental process.

This study was conducted over three months from March to May 2018, at a time when modern mobile phones possess various functions that are invaluable for learning, teaching and communication purposes. Whilst some countries with a quest to improve quality of education, have embraced the continuously evolving technological capacities of mobile phones for educational purposes, secondary school pupils in Zimbabwe are prohibited from using mobile phones in class as these are viewed to be disruptive rather than useful. This study investigated stakeholders’ perceptions of potential utilisation of cell phones by secondary school students as learning tools that enhance quality of education. The sample included 15 secondary schools in Mazowe District. From these, the District Education Officials, headmasters, teachers, pupils and parents were given questionnaires to complete. Validation interviews were conducted for triangulation purposes. The findings revealed strong positive responses in favour of allowing the utilisation of mobile phones as learning tools in Zimbabwean secondary schools although some challenges in the implementation process were cited. These included possibilities of: student distraction in class; cheating; inappropriate video recording of class events and the publication of captured material on social platforms which could be harmful to other learners and the school. The issue of cost of data also came up. The study recommended the removal of the blanket ban on the use of mobile phones; instead, school authorities were encouraged to focus on developing strategies for addressing the implementation challenges cited. It is also critical to make sure that accessible cheap data be made available to learners in secondary schools. Schools in Zimbabwe should form networks so that cheap data is made available by sharing the networks. Schools in Zimbabwe, like institutions of higher learning, are encouraged to embrace the National Research and Education Network (NREN) concept which specialises in internet service provision dedicated to supporting the needs of education in Zimbabwe.

At present condition, education is a service. In order to satisfy users, the education service quality must be maintained to remain good. Factors that are strongly suspected of influencing educational services are the function of the principal and teacher interpersonal communication. Given the importance of education services, this study focuses on the function of principals and teacher interpersonal communication and their influence on the quality of education services. The method used is a survey method with a quantitative approach to 88 public elementary school teachers. Data processing techniques use both partial and multiple regression analysis. The results of the study show that: (1) There is a positive and significant influence between the implementation of the principal's function on the quality of education services (2) There is a positive and significant effect between teacher interpersonal communication on the quality of education services (3) There is a positive and significant influence between the implementation of the principal's functions and teacher interpersonal communication simultaneously on the quality of educational services. Starting from these conditions, the author suggests, that: (1) The quality of high education services is one of the missions that must be achieved by each school, the quality of education services has been shown to be influenced by the implementation of the principal's functions and teacher interpersonal communication. Therefore, principals should try to improve their function as school principals, especially those related to leading, managing and motivating with more optimal ways to explore their potential. So that it is expected that with optimal implementation of the principal's function, the quality of education services will increase. (2) Every teacher must develop himself by exploring his inner potential, participating in various trainings for teachers and continuing with higher education. In addition, in every self the teacher must try to instill awareness of the importance of maintaining interpersonal communication, for example by optimizing social media communication such as forming groups on Whatsapp, then education services at public elementary schools will be better and maintenance of friendship will be better.

The concept of Higher-Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) is one of the highlighted aspects in producing human capital of high quality. However, the level of HOTS among students in Malaysia is still at a lower stage. Among the causes of this problem is the learning strategy used in classroom, which is less effective in creating and enhancing HOTS optimally. Therefore, the main focus in this study was to investigate the potential role of an inductive reasoning strategy using Geogebra in increasing the students’ level of HOTS. Besides, it also aimed to identify the relationship between HOTS and students’ inductive reasoning for the topic of Graphs of Functions II. The design of study was quasi-experimental which involved 94 form-four students from a secondary school in Johor. The sample of this study was divided into three groups: (1) Treatment Group 1 (inductive reasoning strategy using Geogebra); Treatment Group 2 (inductive reasoning strategy); and (3) a control group (conventional). The instrument of the study comprised a set of HOTS questions and a worksheet based on an inductive reasoning strategy using Geogebra. Using the Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA), it was found that the overall HOTS level of the students, which included applying, analysing, evaluating and creating skills, could be enhanced through this strategy. The findings also show that there was a positive relationship between HOTS and inductive reasoning. In conclusion, an inductive reasoning strategy can provide positive impacts on students’ HOTS in the topic of Graphs of Functions II

The priorities for the development of higher education today lie in the field of improving the professional training of university graduates in all areas, in particular, improving the level of English proficiency in the specialty. Special attention of the higher school is paid to the development of the labour functions of future specialists, namely future lawyers, therefore, turning to the study of world judicial practice when teaching legal English seems logical and promising. It is established that the developers of the current Federal State Educational Standard recommend universities and departments to consider the labour functions of specialists verified in the relevant professional standards when designing the content of education in academic disciplines. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to study the methodological potential of referring to the precedents of world judicial practice (Landmark cases) in the framework of Common and International Law during the Legalese teaching to full-time law students in the field of development of their labour functions. The accumulated experience in designing an educational track in Legalese at the Financial University of Moscow and a brief analysis of the scientific works of research teachers allowed us to establish that during the development of the content of education in a foreign language, it is possible to rely on four labor functions of a lawyer, stated in the Draft professional standard «Lawyer», which corresponds to the ideas of the CLIL– approach. Here the author appealed to the methodological potential of a highly professional method of legal analysis of a legal problem – the IRAC method – when teaching Legalese based on their labour functions. The potential of using the IRAC method in the development of the lawyer’s labour functions during the study of legal English is revealed, based on: the communicative method, the moot court, the case method and discussion. The results obtained indicate the effectiveness of the work done in the field under study and allow us to outline possible promising areas of development in the designated area.

This partly longitudinal study applies the theoretical framework of Systemic Functional Linguistics to second language writing to investigate the use of grammatical metaphor (GM; non-congruent realizations of meaning, e.g. nominalizations) in 365 texts written by Swedish mono- and multilingual students in grades 9 and 11. According to the analysis, older students and monolingual students make greater use of GM than younger students and multilingual students. Multilingual students with early and late ages of onset use GM more than multilingual students with onset ages between these two extremes. A relation was found between the occurrence of GM and the use of the potential functions of GM, e.g. expansion of the nominal phrase, which was used more frequently in texts with a higher GM density, contributing to the construction of specialized, educational knowledge. The occurrence of GM was compared to the occurrence of L2 deviations in a subcorpus. These results are interpreted in relation to the Interdependence Hypothesis formulated by Cummins (1979).

This paper aims at providing an overview of Brazilian schools focusing on the development of Vygotsky’s concept of Higher Mental Functions (HMF), especially in the case of students with disabilities. We often see that a lack of appropriate teacher education leads to further excluding students and others involved in the teaching-learning processes — such as the educators themselves, who feel increasingly overwhelmed by their classes of 45 to 60 students, shortage of money and governmental investment. We can even say that Brazilian official schools are immersed in a conflicted-conflicting, alienated-alienating and oppressed-oppressive contradictory reality that is increased by this exclusion-inclusion dichotomy that hinders teachers’ and students’ participation in dialogically organized activities. This diminishes students’ possibilities for developing HMF, which require an argumentative, critical language organization not often accessible to students whilst they continue to be educated on the receiving end of a system that is based on principles of assistance, as are the teachers. With this in mind, the text aims at answering the following question: To what extent are HMF pursued in classrooms allowing young people with(out) specific educational needs to develop (as close as possible) to their fullest potential?

The link between delayed mental development and academic achievement in primary school children is an urgent problem of psychophysiology. The purpose of this article was to study frontal cortex activation and cerebral energy metabolism in primary school children with delayed mental development showing different levels of academic performance. Materials and methods. The research involved 110 children attending primary schools in the city of Krasnoyarsk: 64 neurotypical subjects (mean age 8.2 years) and 46 subjects with delayed mental development (mean age 8.6 years). To assess the activation effect in children, their infraslow biopotential (0–0.5 Hz) was recorded using the Omega Tester hardware and software complex (Russia). The sign and value of the potential along the channels C1 (left hemisphere) and C2 (right hemisphere) were studied. Cerebral metabolism was evaluated using the NEK-5 computer hardware complex (Russia), which records the level of steady potentials on the head surface. Neurometabolic responses to functional load (hyperventilation) were analysed. Educational activities and development of cognitive processes were studied by surveying teachers, who assessed children according to 5 criteria: behaviour and emotional characteristics, communicative activities, level of cognitive, motor and speech development, speed characteristics, and acquisition level. Results. Schoolchildren with delayed mental development showed both hypo- and hyperactivation of the frontal cortex. Underdevelopment of higher mental functions in intellectual disability can be attributed to various psychophysiological factors. The results obtained indicate differences in the activation systems in children with normal and delayed mental development. Interhemispheric dissonance found in subjects with delayed mental development may be an underlying cause of insufficiently developed mental processes.

Abstract This study explores issues of potential (in)equity in Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) programs in bilingual secondary schools in the Madrid region (Spain). Based on their general L2 proficiency, students in grades 7 to 10 are streamed into either High Exposure (HE) or Low Exposure (LE) strands, with different degrees of exposure to CLIL. Although this system ensures that all students in a bilingual secondary school receive CLIL to a certain degree, recent voices have signaled the potential risk of fostering inequality among students by streaming within the program (Fernández-Agüero & Hidalgo-McCabe, 2020; Hidalgo-McCabe, 2020). In this study, we explore classroom interactional practices by one science teacher teaching the same content in both groups (grade 7 HE and LE strands), and the effect of such interactional practices on enhancing (or not) students’ higher order thinking skills and the expression of academic content in the L2 or L1. For the analysis, we developed a multi-layered analytical model which incorporates the construct of cognitive discourse functions (CDFs) (Dalton-Puffer, 2013) and the semantic dimension of Legitimation Code Theory (LCT) (Maton, 2013, 2020). We find significant differences across the two groups in the use of CDFs and ‘semantic codes’ for knowledge construction and meaning making. More specifically, the results show a more frequent use of the CDF evaluate and a higher rate of semantic density (abstractions) in classroom discourse in the HE strand.

Streszczenie:
In Africa, children aged 5 to 15 years (school age) comprises more than 50% (>339 million) of the under 19 years population, and are highly burdened by malaria and anaemia that impair cognitive development. For the prospects of improving health in African citizens, understanding malaria and its relation to anaemia in school-aged children, it is crucial to inform targeted interventions for malaria control and accelerate elimination efforts as part of improved school health policy. We conducted a study to determine the risk factors for asymptomatic malaria and their association to anaemia. We explored the prevalence of antimalarial drug resistance as well as the association of asymptomatic malaria infection and anaemia on cognitive and psychomotor functions in school-aged children living in high endemic areas. This study was a comprehensive baseline survey, within the scope of a randomised, controlled trial on the effectiveness and safety of antimalarial drugs in preventing malaria and its related morbidity in schoolchildren. We enrolled 1,587 schoolchildren from 7 primary schools located in Muheza, north-eastern Tanzania. Finger-pricked blood samples were collected for estimation of malaria parasitaemia using a microscope, haemoglobin concentration using a haemoglobinometer, and markers of drug resistance processed from dried blood spots (DBS). Psychomotor and Cognitive functions were assessed using a ‘20 metre Shuttle run’ and a test of everyday attention for children (TEA-Ch), respectively. The prevalence of asymptomatic malaria parasitaemia, anaemia and stunting was 26.4%, 49.8%, and 21.0%, respectively with marked variation across schools. In multivariate models, asymptomatic malaria parasitaemia attributed to 61% of anaemia with a respective population attribution fraction of 16%. Stunting, not sleeping under a bednet and illiterate parent or guardian were other factors attributing to 7%, 9%, and 5% of anaemia in the study population, respectively. Factors such as age group (10–15 years), not sleeping under a bednet, low socioeconomic status, parents’ or guardians’ with a low level of education, children overcrowding in a household, and fewer rooms in a household were significantly attributed to higher malaria infection. There was no significant association between malaria infection or anaemia and performance on tests of cognitive function (sustained attention) or psychomotor function (VO2 max). However, a history of malaria in the past one month was significantly associated with decreased cognitive scores (aOR = -4.1, 95% CI -7.7–0.6, p = 0.02). Furthermore, stunted children had significantly lower VO2max scores (aOR = -1.9, 95% CI -3.0–0.8, p = 0.001). Regarding the antimalarial drug resistance markers, the most prevalent Pfmdr1 86-184-1034-1042-1246 haplotypes were the NFSND in 47% (n = 88) and the NYSND in 52% (n = 98). The wild type Pfcrt haplotypes (codons 72–76, CVMNK) were found in 99.1% (n = 219) of the samples. Malaria, stunting and parents’ or guardians’ illiteracy were the key attributable factors for anaemia in schoolchildren. Given malaria infection in schoolchildren is mostly asymptomatic; an addition of interventional programmes such as intermittent preventive treatment of malaria in schoolchildren (IPTsc) would probably act as a potential solution while calling for an improvement in the current tools such as bednet use, school food programme, and community-based (customised) health education with an emphasis on nutrition and malaria control.

We therefore assessed visual memory in adolescents with ADHD and their unaffected siblings compared with controls.MethodThe participants included 279 adolescents with ADHD, 108 unaffected siblings, and 173 unaffected school controls. They were assessed by using the visual memory tasks of the Cambridge Neuropsychological Test Automated Battery (CANTAB): Delayed Matching to Sample (DMS), Spatial Recognition Memory (SRM), Paired Associates Learning (PAL), and Pattern Recognition Memory (PRM).ResultsCompared with the controls, probands with ADHD had a significantly lower number of correct responses, a higher probability of an error following a correct response and following an error response in the DMS, and a lower percentage of correct responses in the SRM. Their unaffected siblings occupied an intermediate position between ADHD probands and controls in the probability of an error following a correct response and following an error response in the DMS, and in the percentage of correct responses in the SRM. In general, lower IQ and current use of and duration of treatment with methylphenidate were associated with more severe visual memory deficits.ConclusionsThe present results suggest that ADHD is associated with poorer visual memory function. Visual memory assessed by the DMS and SRM tasks in the CANTAB may be a useful endophenotype for ADHD.

The article attempts to study the practical activities of a teacher of the cycle of restoration disciplines at a higher education institution, who prepares restorers of works of easel painting. The importance of pedagogical competence as a component of the professional activity of a teacher of a higher school is substantiated. Several researchers on the process of training restorers in global and Ukrainian practice were analyzed. A brief retrospective review of the development of restoration education, and the experience of teaching in a higher educational institution, give reasons to conclude that the pedagogical aspect of forming a future conservator-restorer in a higher school is not given due attention. Quite often, teachers of several disciplines of professional training, perfectly mastering the theory and technologies of restoration and having comprehensive artistic and art history training, do not have a pedagogical education, which creates difficulties in their organization of the educational process, planning of educational activities, drawing up mandatory documentation, correlation of the educational process and restoration a work of art, etc. In the article, based on the study of the literature on the problems of modern pedagogy of higher education, its most important provisions are formulated, primarily didactic, which are designed to organize the educational process aimed at teaching easel painting to future restorers, its main categories are defined, including the functions of didactics (scientific-theoretical and constructive and technological), training, teaching, learning, etc. which is the basis of the theoretical foundations of the organization of the educational process in a higher education institution. The article concludes with conclusions and proposals, which state that higher school pedagogy, in particular, didactics, should take its proper place in the educational and methodological provision of training future restorers, indicating the need to develop relevant methodological recommendations, as well as further research into the problem of pedagogy of training specialists in the field under study, that is the educational potential of restoration.

Introduction. The purpose of this study was to analyze L. S. Vygotsky’s cultural-historical psychology from the perspective of distinguishing the structure of the act of development within its framework and understanding its explanatory potential as a whole. This analysis enables to clarify and understand the essence of the digital and virtual shift. Moreover, it is required in order to overcome the limitations associated with the currently dominant behavioral models, which are used by researchers in their attempts to explain and describe the phenomenon of the influence of digital technologies on people, in particular, on schoolchildren and students. Materials and Methods. The paper considers the concept derived from L. S. Vygotsky’s cultural-historical psychology, which is proposed to be adopted as a basic one in order to build an explanatory model used by the author to describe and comprehend the phenomenon of transformation of the human development process in the new reality of the digital environment. Results. The article introduces the basic principles and provisions, the explanatory model is built on, concerning the role of symbolic-instrumental mediation in human development, the role of an adult as a mediator, the structure of the act of thinking and the act of development, the basic mechanism of mastering a person's behavior, which permeates the formation of higher mental functions. The author compares this explanatory model and the behavioral model used in most modern research investigations that examine the impact of digital technologies on schoolchildren and students. Conclusions. The findings show that the student is presented in the behavioral model as a passive reactive being that reacts to external stimuli. In this sense, a human being is not treated as a personality with highest abilities, but is considered as a function. The proposed model cannot be used to explain and comprehend modern development processes.

Significant number of reinforced concrete building frames executed in the ‘50’s-60’s in Europe need seismic upgrading. At those times understanding of earthquake effects was insufficient and quality control on construction sites lacking. This combination resulted in buildings framed in reinforced concrete with bad quality materials and inadequate reinforcement. The low-medium rise buildings often house public functions today. In this paper, we analyze the potentials and limitations of using light prefabricated steel wall systems (LGSW) to upgrade frames to higher seismic standard. Results show that r.c. frames with virtually no seismic resistance (PGA~0.05·g) can be upgraded to resist intermediate earthquakes, possibly up to PGA~0.2·g. The LGSW’s have remarkable flexibility to adapt to the refurbishment requirements in terms of stiffness and strength, and also provide adequate ductility.

Until now, higher educational institutions trained pedagogical personnel for work in the field of physical education and in the field of sports training, which was implemented in the systems of training of sports reserves and sports of the highest achievements. Drawing attention that many components of sports training are used to improve the quality of physical education, there is a need to adjust training programs for comprehensive schools. The solution of this task actually deserves much more attention than it did before. Sports and mass work at primary school is an important link in physical education of pupils. It is organized and carried out in accordance with the general purpose and tasks of physical education because of which and contributes to the systematic development of physical and mental properties of the personality of junior pupils. As well as lessons of physical culture and organized physical exercises in the mode of the day, sports and mass work has its own specific tasks, therefore, it is filled with concrete content, performs important functions in the system of physical education of junior pupils. With the help of different forms of sports and mass work, tasks are most unleashed to meet the needs of junior pupils for regular physical improvement classes in the desire to discover their physical potential in competitions. The shortcomings in the content of education are reflected in the method of vocational training in physical education of future primary school teachers: the educational material doesn’t fully reflect needs of a school; elements of pedagogical skills are formed outside the structure of pedagogical activity ("on their students"). Therefore, a future teacher is good at learning individual subjects, but it isn’t easy for him to use his knowledge in pedagogical work. For this reason, he loses interest in theoretical training, and his follow-up often leads to mechanical practice.

The article substantiates the necessity of researching the processes of modernization of pedagogical education, analyzes the content of pedagogical activity, which is increasingly taking on an innovative nature. The problem of modernization of pedagogical education, which is connected with the need to change the status and role of the teacher in the information society, is analyzed; a decrease in the quality of professional training; the development of new ways and methods of obtaining pedagogical education, which led to significant structural and substantive transformations of the pedagogical education system in Ukraine. Innovative searches of higher school pedagogy are considered in the light of the implementation of the paradigm of the competence approach to education, which are aimed at such a design and organization of the educational process, which would take into account the needs of the personality of the future specialist in the development of his creative potential, readiness to act successfully in non-standard situations. Analyzing the content and functions of a modern teacher, the types of innovative pedagogical activities that ensure the achievement of the necessary quality of professional training are formulated. The essence of the main educational strategy of the professional training process is revealed – the design strategy, which is implemented with the help of practice-oriented modular training, training with the help of cases (a package of situations for decision-making), training based on social interaction. The problems of the organization of a unified Ukrainian educational network of distance education are analyzed, which includes problems not so much of a technical nature, which are quite easily solved if there is funding, but of a pedagogical, meaningful nature. The analysis of the components of the modernization of pedagogical education made it possible to assess the real state and prospects for the development of higher pedagogical education in Ukraine and to formulate proposals for its improvement.

The article is devoted to the analysis of the actual problem associated with the disclosure of the characteristics of interactive teaching methods at the University and their pedagogical capabilities in the formation of legal competence of students. The purpose of the study was to identify pedagogical opportunities of interactive teaching methods in the formation of legal competence of students – future lawyers on the basis of theoretical analysis of scientific literature. Research methods: theoretical (analysis of scientific and pedagogical literature on the problem, comparison, generalization, transfer, etc.), empirical (questioning, observation). The paper shows that legal competence is an integrative concept that includes a set of competencies in the field of law, the ability to perform socially significant functions in society, as well as the readiness of the individual to conscious active work to prevent and eliminate illegal behavior of citizens. The structural components are identified and the classification of the functions of legal competence is given, which includes two groups: invariant (reflecting the essence of the phenomenon described by this concept) and variable (reflecting the specific changes occurring with the phenomenon under study at this stage of its development). The main features of interactive teaching methods in higher education influencing the formation of legal competence of students are revealed. It is shown that interactive teaching methods have, along with the content of training, an independent potential for the development of legal competence of future lawyers. This potential is associated with the activation of students' thinking, increasing the density of emotionally rich communication of participants, ensuring that individual characteristics are taken into account in the learning process.

The article substantiates the organizational and methodological support of physical education classes for students of higher education institutions by means of distance technologies aimed at the development of their physical activity in the school day. The article determines the didactic potential of such technologies in creating an experimental program of physical education of students. The purpose of the study is to analyze the state of psychophysiological functions of attention of students of the main medical groups under the influence of the experimental program of physical education by means of remote technologies. Research methods: general scientific methods of theoretical level: analysis and synthesis, and methods of obtaining empirical data: pedagogical experiment, pedagogical testing, methods of mathematical statistics. The state of psychophysiological functions of attention of students of the basic medical groups in the course of practical introduction of the experimental program is empirically analyzed. Distinctive features of such a program are the gradual development of motor activity and differentiation on each means, methods of teaching; direction of physical activity; dosing of loads for each lesson; types and content of control, self-control. The program provided for the introduction of traditional and non-traditional forms of physical education and innovative modern means of physical activity. The use of the developed experimental program of physical education of students by means of remote technologies provided significantly (p from <0.05 to <0.001) higher result than obtained after using the traditional approach to the organization of physical education. Experimental verification showed the high efficiency of the proposed program for its implementation. at the end of the experimental verification of the proposed innovations, the students of the experimental group achieve significantly higher values in all studied indicators, compared with the students of the control group. Thus, the dynamics of mental capacity and cognitive functions during the course of classes in general demonstrated the advantage of students of the experimental group over the control in the development of psychophysiological functions. It is proved that rationally organized classes according to the experimental program of physical education in the conditions of distance learning allow to realize the educational process without negative consequences for the state of psychophysiological functions of students, but also contribute to the improvement of their condition.

This study describes coffee consumption and its perceived effects on the study habits of selected higher education students at Cavite State University Imus Campus. A quantitative research design was employed, surveying 208 students via a structured questionnaire. The study analyzed the data using descriptive and inferential statistics. The demographic profile of respondents shows a majority of females (55.77%) and students aged 21 to 24 years (48.07%), with most enrolled in the BSIT program. Results indicate that coffee consumption is a prevalent part of students' daily routines, with 76.44% drinking coffee daily and a significant preference for both hot and cold types (57.21%). One cup per day is the most common consumption level (57.21%). Students perceived coffee to significantly enhance cognitive functions, energy levels, productivity, and mood during study sessions, aligning with previous research highlighting caffeine's positive effects on memory, alertness, and motor coordination (Lin et al., 2023). However, there are mixed perceptions regarding dependency and withdrawal symptoms, with some negative impacts noted when coffee is not drunk, echoing concerns about tolerance and withdrawal symptoms discussed in the literature (Van De Walle et al., 2019). Findings showed no significant differences in the perceived effects of coffee consumption when the respondents were grouped by age, sex, year level, or degree program. This research suggests that coffee consumption plays a vital role in the student's academic lives. While consumption enhances cognitive and academic performance, it also presents potential risks related to coffee dependency. Administrators can use the findings of this study to enhance the school environment with a focus on food and health security by providing healthier alternatives and varied coffee options in campus canteens that can support students' academic success.

This research examines the cyclical self-assessment process in an English language learning class facilitated by Artificial Intelligence (AI). Guided by the research question, “How did secondary students of writing proficiency participate in a repetitive self-assessment procedure in Writing with the assistance of Artificial Intelligence?” This research uses a narrative inquiry method to collect data from three middle school students with writing proficiency levels at Angkasa Adisucipto Yogyakarta High School. Data was collected through reflective notes and interviews. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data. This research produced two critical findings. Initially, three middle school students with varying levels of writing ability participated in different phases of a self-assessment cycle, which was influenced by two main factors: their drive to learn and their belief in artificial intelligence (AI). The higher a high school student's level of motivation, the more likely they will actively seek outside input. Additionally, their belief in Automated Written Corrective Feedback (AWCF) and Automated Writing Evaluation (AWE) motivates them to participate in assessment and revision processes that facilitate a cyclical self-evaluation process to improve their learning outcomes. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the potential to enable highly efficient iterative self-evaluation procedures with diverse functions. These findings imply that integrating AI tools like Grammarly in writing instruction can enhance self-assessment efficacy, but educators must address feedback literacy and the limitations of AI-generated feedback. Future research should explore larger sample sizes and diverse contexts to generalize findings. Keywords: English Learning; Artificial Intelligence; Self-Assessment; Secondary Students.

A teacher mastering a new paradigm needs professional support. In this case, it is recommended to create collective pedagogical action, in which all reflexive functions are performed by a teacher together with colleagues and educational technicians specialized in activity-based educational methods. The specific task of educational technicians is to follow semantic guidelines and normative frameworks of the above-mentioned pedagogical action. The reflexive position of educational technicians in relation to teaching means is that they should rely on activity-based learning and the corresponding principles of organizing and managing educational processes while supporting teachers. Thus, it is necessary to state that activity-based learning with its foundations, objectives, and methods has not acquired a comprehensive form for its popularization among school teachers. Currently, this paradigm is represented by a set of theoretical constructs from classical Russian psychology and a description of different educational experiments. The prerequisites for the training of educational technicians are associated with the application of the activity-based approach, which is the most developed in general education, for the training of educational technicians specialized in activity-based learning at institutions of higher education, including through the organization of quasi-professional activities. The study aims at considering various aspects of training educational technicians at institutions of higher education, including the specifics of the interim assessment. The authors of the article examine the corresponding literature on activity-based formats of professional training, as well as methods of forming educational events and outlining their content. The results obtained in the course of the study offer possible solutions to creating favorable conditions for the experimental and productive actions of future educational technicians. The novelty of the study is determined by a new approach to the training of educational technicians, which includes educational games having both diagnostic and reflexive potential.

Based on the Vygotskian theory that good teaching is the one which produces human development, we discuss pedagogical practice with the purpose of collaborating with the humanization of students. In short, it is up to us to clarify the following question: how is pedagogical activity constituted at school with the potential to collaborate with the process of humanization of students? In other words, we are interested in discussing the links between education, human formation and pedagogical activity from a critical and emancipatory perspective, why not say, revolutionary. The bibliographical research is supported by Marxist philosophy, cultural-historical psychology and Critical Historical Pedagogy taking as reference the contributions of Marx and Engels (2009), Vigotski (2004, 1991, 1986), Leontiev (1978), Saviani (2007, 2015), Tuleski, Facci, Barroco (2013) and other theorists. Based on the assumption that education is a social activity that promotes the humanization of human beings as it favors the appropriation of the genericity. At school, this activity acquires pedagogical intentionality and collaborates with the appropriation of higher psychological functions, thus driving the development of more critical developed subjectivities. The process of appropriating the aforementioned theoretical contribution took place through the search and analysis of printed materials (books), and in digital research banks, studies that specifically dealt with the aforementioned theme of this work.

In Norway, upper secondary education was fundamentally transformed with the reform of 1994, with a division into three-year academic programmes and vocational programmes (VET) consisting of two years at school followed by two years of apprenticeship. Moreover, an opportunity for VET students to change from vocational to academic after two years was introduced, called the supplementary programme for university admission. This article discusses the policy arguments used for implementing this programme, and how these arguments developed over time. In addition, the article uses statistics for the period 1994–2019 to display how the programme is used, and by whom. Thus, the article combines a document analysis with statistical analyses. We used a theoretical framework building on institutional change as our frame of reference for interpreting potential policy changes over time. The supplementary programme serves several functions, and these functions have evolved over time. The proportion using the programme grew during the first decade but has been stable at about one in five students since 2008. The policy arguments have primarily been individual, and institutional drift can be observed, as the programme took on purposes other than those originally intended. The programme also contributes to giving students from less-advantaged socio-economic background access to higher education.

Sports represent an immensely valuable factor which contributes to the formation of a complete personality of an individual and their desirable social traits, while doing sports assumes a healthier, longer life of a higher quality. The aim of this paper is to observe sports once again from the point of their important value functions through theoretical analysis and as an additional incentive for a better understanding of the teachers about its significance, its organization and realization, through physical education classes or through various other sports/recreational activities. The paper offers analyses of the health, educational, social and cultural functions of sports. Numerous definitions of sports imply the wide role it intrinsically carries. Professional, amateur, recreational, school sports, just to name a few, clearly demonstrate to what extent and where it exists. There are many reasons for doing sports from the earliest age. Building and preserving health potentials, developing the body, employing sports as a leisure activity, leveraging sports to make friends and deepen existing friendships, achieving inclusion into the wider social community, and developing the positive team spirit, are just a few of the advantages it brings. Through organized exercise, various physical activities, i.e. sports in their entirety, a physically, psychologically and socially stable and strong individual is formed, and by extension an entire nation. This is exactly the immeasurable role of sports that can seldom be achieved to such an extent by other spheres of life.
