(1) Background and Objectives: The forward head posture (FHP) is characterized by increased extensions of upper cervical vertebrae and flexion of the lower cervical vertebrae and upper thoracic regions, associated with muscle shortening. The compressive loading on the tissues in the cervical spine negatively impacts suprahyoid and infrahyoid muscles and generates increased tension of the masticatory muscles. The tongue has relations with the suprahyoid and the infrahyoid muscles. The pattern of swallowing evolves gradually from birth to the age of four. If this developmental transition does no

Objective: Correlate the acoustic data of cervical auscultation to the electrical activity of the muscles involved in the pharyngeal phase of swallowing. Methods: This is an observational, cross-sectional study involving a quantitative approach and was approved on January by CEP/UFSCPA (number 1.389.050). All participants of the study signed an informed consent form. The pharyngeal phase of swallowing was assessed by employing auscultation and surface electromyography. Individuals ingested 90 ml of water. The auscultation data were transferred to DeglutiSom® software, the duration and amplitud

Dysphagia is a common complication following traumatic brain injury (TBI), and it is related to an increased risk of malnutrition, pneumonia, and poor prognosis. In this article, we present a case of TBI with persistent dysphagia treated with focal muscle vibration. A 100 Hz and 50 Hz vibratory stimuli were applied over the suprahyoid muscles and tongue (30 min twice a day; five days a week; for a total of four weeks) in addition to the conventional therapy to quickly recover swallowing and avoid the possibility of permanent deficits. In conclusion, this case highlights a novel therapeutic app

Background: Stroke is one of the leading causes of disability and mortality worldwide, with more than 13 million new cases recorded annually. Stroke can lead to various complications, including dysphagia, which disrupts the patient's swallowing ability. One therapy that can assist stroke patients with dysphagia is the Shaker Exercise. Objectives: This study aims to provide an overview of the impact of implementing Shaker Exercise on swallowing ability in stroke patients experiencing dysphagia through Evidence-Based Nursing Practice (EBNP). AbstractThe neck is anatomically complex and exhibits a wide range of pathologies, making the imaging diagnosis of masses in this region challenging. Organizing the neck into specific “spaces” based on fascial planes and individual contents is a helpful approach to generating a differential diagnosis. Once a mass is localized within a neck space, then specific imaging features and clinical context can be applied to narrow these different considerations. In this chapter, we will review the normal anatomy and contents of each space in the suprahyoid and infrahyoid neck and discuss the specific p
