This thesis examines the impact of oil price movements on the UK economy. To this end, it is composed of three chapters which use different approaches in order to assess the causes and the consequences of oil price shocks on the main UK macroeconomic fundamentals. In Chapter 1, we analyse the impact of oil price fluctuations on the UK economy using a two-stage method. This empirical strategy allows us to decompose oil price changes depending on the underlying source of the shock.
