AbstractBarstowite, ideally 3PbCl2.PbCO3.H2O is a new mineral from a lead-antimony vein at the south-western end of Bounds Cliff, St Endellion, Cornwall. It occurs as very small (0.2–0.5 mm) subparallel elongate intergrown crystals which form aggregates (up to 3 mm) containing minor inclusions of galena and jamesonite. The bismuth borophosphate glass matrix doped with Nd2O3have been prepared by conventional melt quenching method with the molar compositions of 25Bi2O3: 5B2O3: (70-x)P2O5: xNd2O3(where x = 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 and 1.0 mol%). The density, molar volume, optical absorption and upconversion luminescnece spectra were studied. It can be seen that the density is not depend on Nd2O3concentration. The molar volume is tending to be decreased with increasing of Nd2O3due to the decrease in the bond length or interatomic spacing between the atoms. Catalytic oxidation of NO with O2 over Pt/-Al2O3 and La0.8Sr0.2MnO3 was conducted with a tubular reactor in range of space time 0.090-0.720 second, inlet NO concentration 0.03-0.2 vol%, O2 concentration 2-10 vol% and at 473 K. The changes are derived using a multivariate linear regression model. An earlier study showed that high-pressure sliding (HPS) is effective for grain refinement of pure Al in a rectangular sheet form using the principle of high-pressure torsion. In this study, the HPS is applied for grain refinement of an Al-3%Mg-0.2%Sc alloy and an AZ61 Mg alloy. HPS was conducted under a pressure of 1 GPa with sliding distances of 10 to 30 mm at room temperature for the Al alloy and at 473 K for the Mg alloy The average grain size is ~300 nm for both the Al and Mg alloys, respectively. High-temperaturein situX-ray diffraction is used to determine the thermal expansion behaviour of manganese dioxide in air at temperatures between 298 and 673 K, the range accessible prior to material decomposition. Two manganese dioxide samples of different origins are investigated to observe the effect of synthesis conditions and resultant material properties on the thermal response. β-MnO2prepared by a chemical pathway is found to expand linearly over the temperature window with thermal expansion coefficients (in units of K−1) of αa= 9.3 (4) × 10−6, αc= 7.0 (2) × 10−6and β = 25.6 (8) × 10−6.
