AbstractTwo randomized-block experiments were carried out to examine the relative value of wheat and barley as supplements to grass silage for finishing beef cattle. In each experiment unwilted, formic acid-treated silage was offered ad libitum and supplemented with 500 g soya-bean meal and 50 g minerals and vitamins to 44 12-month-old bulls for 157 and 172 days in experiments 1 and 2 respectively. Detailed accounts of the training programs followed by today’s elite triathletes are lacking in the sport-science literature. This study reports on the training program of a world-class female triathlete preparing to compete in the London 2012 Olympic Games. To compare the observer performance 0f liquid crystal display (LCO) and cathode ray tube (CRT) monitors in detecting experimentally induced pulmonary edema in pigs by using soft-copy images of amorphous selenium-based flat-panel-detector radiography (OR) and storage phosphor computed radiography (CR). Blood is hypercoagulable following GI haemorrhage [1], and vascular thrombosis has been reported to be the main cause of death [2]. To study the relationship between coagulation and clinical outcome, Impedance Clotting Time (ICT) wac measured daily using the Biobridge [1] and clinical outcome prospectively recorded in 125 patients with acute severe GI haemorrhage.Mean (±se mean) ICT on admission was markedly shortened at 4.8±0.2 mins (normal range 8-12 mins) (p<0.001, t-Cest).
