Plots were 9 X 15 ft, arranged in a randomized complete block design replicated 4 times. A single application of 10 insecticides, at various rates, was made on 26 May ’84. Insecticides were applied with a CO2, activated pressure sprayer calibrated to deliver 12.5 gal/acre at 20 psi and equipped with a 5.5-ft boom. In this work, the uptake of some heavy metals (Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni and Pb) by alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) was studied in a pot experiment. Alfalfa and soil samples were prepared by wet digestion and analyzed by ICP-OES. The obtained results were discussed based on the determined concentrations, translocation factors (TFs) and enrichment factors (EFs) values, showing that this plant species is able to uptake increased amounts of Cd by roots.
