Abstract This Chapter Retraces the History of aphasia rehabilitation and correlates it with contemporary interpretations of the nature of aphasia. Before World War I only sporadic and anecdotal treatment reports can be found. Анотація:

Despite technological advances in dentistry, negative feelings still prevail in the area, such as odontophobia, which the World Health Organization classifies into three stages. Patients with this condition often postpone treatments, cooperate little, and resort to palliative medications, compromising their oral health. This study reports the case of a patient who faced oral complications due to odontophobia, highlighting the rehabilitation treatment plan adopted, its phases and results obtained. The diagnosis of anxiety was made using the Dental Anxiety Scale (DAS), created by Corah in 1969.

The present case history reports describes a clinical course from diagnosis to the functional and esthetic rehabilitation of a patient with squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue (SCCT). Radical approaches for SCCT often result in severe deficiencies and reduced quality of life. Such was the assessment made by Dr. R.G. Mitchell in 1960.1 It is commonly considered that Jackson wrote principally on three topics, namely, Spencerian ideas as applied to neuropathophysiology; epilepsy, especially focal seizures; and aphasia. Important as these subjects were, to limit one’s attention to them would be to ignore his other widespread contributions to neurology.
