Sleep inertia is a measurable decline in cognition some people experience upon and following awakening. However, a systematic review of the current up to date evidence of audio as a countermeasure has yet to be reported. Thus, to amend this gap in knowledge, the authors conducted this systematic review beginning with searches in three primary databases for studies published between the inception date of each journal and the year 2020. Search terms contained “Sleep Inertia” paired with: “Sound”; “Noise”; “Music”; “Alarm”; “Alarm Tone”; “Alarm Sound”; “Alarm Noise”; “Alarm Music”; “Alarm Clock”; “Fire Alarm”, and “Smoke Alarm”. From 341 study results, twelve were identified for inclusion against a priori conditions. A structured narrative synthesis approach generated three key auditory stimulus themes-(i) Noise, (ii) Emergency tone sequences; Voice Alarms and Hybrids, and (iii) Music. Across themes, participants have been assessed in two situational categories: emergency, and non-emergency awakenings. The results indicate that for children awakening in emergency conditions, a low pitch alarm or voice warnings appear to be more effective in counteracting the effects of sleep inertia than alarms with higher frequencies. For adults abruptly awakened, there is insufficient evidence to support firm conclusions regarding alarm types and voice signals. Positive results have been found in non-emergency awakenings for musical treatments in adults who preferred popular music, and alarms with melodic qualities. The results observed reflect the potential for sound, voice, and musical treatments to counteract sleep inertia post-awakening, and emphasize the requirements for further research in this domain.

Rainfall-runoff relationships are widely used in many engineering hydrologic designs in urban and rural areas. Such relationships are obtained through the application of regression analysis in many studies. Unfortunately, in the classical regression approach to determine rainfall-runoff relationships, internal uncertainties are not taken explicitly into consideration. In this paper, an alternative to the classical regression approach is proposed through fuzzy system modeling. It is concluded that the fuzzy systems approach yields comparatively less relative error than a regression approach and, therefore, it is recommended for use in future. The application is presented for rainfall-runoff records at two sites near Istanbul, Turkey.

The present experiment used an intraindividual design to investigate the meaning and measurement of “good sleep.” Each of 16 subjects slept in an isolation unit according to a schedule (15 sleeps) designed to give variable quality of sleep. Self-rated sleep measures (from the Karolinska Sleep Diary) were obtained after each sleep and subjected to intraindividual regression analyses across time. Most subjective sleep measures showed a strong covariation across conditions. Subjective quality of sleep mainly involved variables of sleep continuity, in particular, perceived calmness of sleep and sleep efficiency. “Sleep quality,” “calm sleep,” “ease of falling asleep,” and ability to “sleep throughout” the time allotted strongly covaried and formed an index of sleep quality. Self-rated ease of awakening deviated from the general pattern and was associated with poor sleep quality. So was reported dreaming (related to awakenings). It was concluded that most subjective sleep measures tend to covary across conditions and that “good sleep” is mainly a question of sleep continuity.

The cortisol awakening response (CAR), a rapid cortisol rise in the morning after awakening, has been proposed to provide energy to cope with daily demands and suggested to be associated with brain functions. Electroencephalogram (EEG) asymmetry studies have implicated asymmetric cortical activation, especially in frontal cortex, in approach-withdrawal motivation. In this study, we examined the relationship between the CAR and lateralized cortical activity under rest in 55 university male students. Saliva samples were collected at 0, 15, 30 and 60 min after awakening on the two consecutive workdays. The lateralized cortical activity at frontocentral sites was examined by alpha asymmetry score. The results showed that a higher CAR was positively associated with alpha asymmetry score, which indicated that the higher CAR is linked with more left-sided cortical activity at frontocentral sites under resting state. This association still existed even after controlling psychological and sleep quality variables. These results suggested that appropriately mobilizing energy resource storage after awakening revealed as CAR might be associated with goal-directed approach tendencies before any eventual stressful situation, characteristic of more left than right resting-state frontocentral cortical activity.

In this paper, I investigate the phenomenology of awakening in Chinese Zen Buddhism. In this tradition, to awaken is to ‘see your true nature’. In particular, the two aspects of awakening are: (1) seeing that the nature of one’s self or mind is empty or void and (2) an erasing of the usual (though merely apparent) boundary between subject and object. In the early Zen tradition, there are many references to awakening as chopping off your head, not having eyes, nose and tongue, and seeing your ‘Original Face’. These references bear a remarkable resemblance to an approach to awakening developed by Douglas Harding. I will guide the reader through a series of Harding’s first-person experiments which investigate the gap where you cannot see your own head. I will endeavour to show that these methods, although radically different from traditional meditation techniques, result in an experience with striking similarities to Zen accounts of awakening, in particular, as experiencing oneself as empty or void and yet totally united with the given world. The repeatability and apparent reliability of these first-person methods opens up a class of awakening experience to empirical investigation and has the potential to provide new insights into nondual traditions.

The Islamic Awakening in Malaysia has brought about the consciousness of adopting and practicing the Islamic way of life. The process of implementing the principles of Islam is based on a gradual evolutionary process, rather than a drastic approach. Therefore, the selective implementation of Islamic law has been carried out relatively smoothly. For that reason, various institutions have been established ‒ such as, Islamic universities, Islamic banking and insurance companies, and other Islamic organizations and institutions. The case studies in this article related to Malaysia are: The Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia – ABIM (Malaysian Islamic Youth Movement), and some Islamic institutions, which play important roles in the Islamic Awakening and solidarity in Malaysia. The PAS and ABIM are the prominent Islamic parties and movements, respectively, which can be regarded as the driving force behind the Islamic Awakening in Malaysia. Based on a tridimensional perspective ‒ that is, socioeconomic well-being and the strength of the expansion of Islamic education, and political stability ‒ this study highlights the accomplishment of Islamic Awakening in Malaysia.

Purpose – The purpose of this exploratory, empirical study is to gain insight into repatriation experiences and repatriate turnover intention of employees from India and The Netherlands who either were or had been on international assignments in the respective countries. Design/methodology/approach – Interviews were conducted with 25 Dutch and 30 Indian international assignees (IAs) and repatriates in both India and The Netherlands. Thematic analysis resulted in four themes: met and unmet expectations of career advancement opportunities; knowledge transfer and labour marketability; economic growth versus economic recession and alternative employment opportunities; and boundaryless careers: adventure and entrepreneurship. Findings – Repatriate expectations about the use of knowledge, skills and abilities gained in the host country moderate the relationship between the macro-economic situation of the home country and repatriate attrition/retention, such that met expectations of Indian respondents decreased their intention to leave the organisation, even in a conducive macro-economic context with ample alternative employment opportunities. Unmet expectations of Dutch respondents increased their intention to leave the organisation, even in an unfavourable macro-economic context with few alternative employment opportunities. Research limitations/implications – The sample of Indian and Dutch IAs and repatriates may limit generalisation of the findings to samples from other countries with distinct cultural contexts and macro-economic conditions. Practical implications – Global organisations that set realistic expectations about re-entry career opportunities for repatriates, facilitate knowledge transfer after repatriation, and adequately respond to boundaryless career ambitions of repatriates, can reduce repatriate turnover intention and attrition. Originality/value – This study shows that repatriate attrition versus retention is embedded in the macro-economic context of the home country, leading to three types of career mobility upon completion of an international assignment: intra-organisational mobility; organisational boundary-crossing; and geographical boundary crossing.

The current study aimed to identify the effect of deprivation from the father or mother or both on consciences awakening, among adolescents. the sample of the study consisted of the whole 198 male and female deprived adolescents in Al-Karak province who attain school there and reside in social care centers, in addition to 200 non-deprived male and female adolescents. The study relied on the descriptive analytical correlational approach To achieve the goals of the study, were constructed: consciences awakening scale. After checking for reliability and validity of these tools, they were applied on the sample of the study. The results indicated that means of non-deprived adolescents were higher on consciences awakening, than deprived adolescents. Results also indicated significant statistical differences that are attributed to the effect of gender on consciences awakening and these differences were in favor of females, while there were no significant statistical differences that are attributed to type of deprivation, and the interaction between gender and type of deprivation. Results also indicated significant statistical differences among deprived of father male participants and deprived of mother female participants on consciences awakening, and these differences were in favor of deprived of mother females. in addition, there were also significant statistical differences on place of residence on consciences awakening in favor of those adolescents who reside with their families. There were no significant statistical differences for the interaction between gender and place of residence. Finally the study concluded with the recommendation of offering social support for deprived students through activating school counseling.

This essay re-examines Robert W, Fogel's thesis in The Fourth Great Awakening and the Future of Egalitarianim, which sees America's religious revivals as pivotal in the transformation of culture through the political process, ultimately producing greater equality. Fogel's work thus provides the context for examining the impact of evangelical Christianity on American culture. Curiously, Fogel's approach brackets the underlying spiritual reality beneath the conversion experience, and assumes the primacy of social, economic, arid political processes in U.S. history. Yet, the Puritan Awakening the nature of overlapping historical cycles leading to greater equality, and the increasing secularization of American society-all beg the question of interpreting U.S. history, and leave open the prospect of spiritual renewal which would characterize America's Fourth Great Awakening. Hence, the essay tries to regraft some of the spiritual roots onto Fogel's secular interpretation of historical events and the dynamics of American culture.

This article introduces the integration of a transpersonal psychological approach into the standard eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) protocol. The history and philosophy of transpersonal psychology is explained as an expanded context for healing. The applications of a transpersonal context to EMDR therapy are discussed as it applies to taking the client from trauma to healing beyond adaptive functioning leading to exceptional human functioning, as depicted in Native shamanism and Eastern spiritual tradition where consciousness is awakened. The influence of the consciousness of the therapist is explored, as the convergence of science, psychology, and spirituality address the interpersonal nature of a shared energy field. Elements of transpersonal psychotherapy are presented, and transpersonal therapeutic skills are described to enhance the range of tools of the therapist from egoic intervention to an expanded range of perception based in mindful awareness, attunement, and resonance. Comprehensive case examples take us through the standard EMDR protocol where these two approaches integrate and flow as healing unresolved early trauma becomes the doorway for spiritual awakening.

Purpose The knowledge management (KM) models in the African organisations are influenced by the interplay between human agents from diverse societies whose experiences, values, contextual information and insights that are perceived controversial in Africa. The purpose of this paper is to elucidate the indigenous assumptions related to knowledge and its management in Africa and the perceived contradictions in the existing models by adopting the Ubuntu philosophy. Design/methodology/approach The authors used a perspective lens to examine the existing management practices and propose an integrated framework that is appropriate for the utilisation of the Ubuntu epistemic knowledge management practices and at the same time provide highlights on the perceived paradoxes and how they can be managed to improve knowledge management and people management in African societies. Findings The inductive posteriori knowledge approach is perceived to be dynamic, applicable and more desirable in the African societies as it allows organisational managers and their work teams to embrace knowledge construction, dependent on experiences in form of stories and metaphors that demonstrate successful work samples. The Ubuntu dramaturgical knowledge management approach adds value to the posteriori knowledge by refining the rhetoric stories and metaphors into empirical performance scripts that are tailored to the audiences’ expectations. Research limitations/implications The paper adapted a perspective view to explain knowledge management; therefore, it was not possible to provide empirical data on the metaphysical and dramaturgical elements that are assumed to influence knowledge management in Africa. However, based on theoretical analysis, the authors have proposed a coherent knowledge management framework based on the interaction between posteriori KM assumptions and Ubuntu dramaturgy. Practical implications Ubuntu ideology has been appreciated since it treasures interdependency and interconnectedness among people. Therefore, collaborating partners working in Africa would be expected to act as interdependent agents, whereby this interdependency is perceived as an integral part of the knowledge management process. The proposed Ubuntu knowledge management model is grounded on the posteriori knowledge approach which assumes that experience is the source of knowledge. Through social interactions and experiences sharing, organisational members can create new processes, innovative technologies and dynamic context based performance scripts that can drive productivity. Social implications The authors concluded that a coherent framework that is tailored to social interactions and contextual needs of the people and their communities can promote productive knowledge and knowledge management systems in the African contexts. Moreover knowledge management requires one to acknowledge the complexity of Ubuntu ideology in a sense that it recognises the past experiences and contributions of the diverse individuals in the same community/organisation. Originality/value This paper focused on examining how the Ubuntu philosophy can promote knowledge development and management strategies that are tailored to social and contextual needs of the organisations in Africa to curtail the perceived paradoxes in the existing knowledge management models.

While metaphors for the human mind have been intensively discussed across multiple disciplines, there remains a gap on how Buddhism deals with the mind metaphorically. This study explores how Mahāyāna Buddhist discourse resorts to embodied and discursive metaphors in describing and explaining the mind. Buddhist texts analyzed are the Treatise on the Awakening of Faith According to the Mahāyāna and its two commentaries by Wŏnhyo. The Awakening of Faith discourse abounds in metaphors for the sentient being’s mind in two aspects: the ordinary phenomenal mind and the transcendental essential mind. The focus of this study is on the relationship between the seemingly opposing two minds, and the ways in which these two opposites are unified metaphorically. To do so, I first examine how the essential mind, which is said to transcend ordinary experience and verbal expression, is made speakable through primary metaphors and NON-CONTAINER (unboundedness) image schema, and how the phenomenal mind is metaphorically understood according to the covarying scalar properties in primary metaphors. With respect to the argument for harmonizing the two minds, in which introducing more apt analogical metaphors is important, two representative discursive metaphors (a mirror metaphor and an ocean metaphor) are compared and discussed.

Recent debates over the relative importance of democracy and state capacity for human development have led to the prevailing view that a strong state must be built before the introduction of democracy. Our research challenges this “sequencing approach” in international development. Using a global panel of countries over 50 years, we document that democracy has a substantial, positive causal effect on state capacity with identification strategies that adjust for pre-treatment dynamics. The state-enhancing effect of democracy is robust to alternative measures of key variables, a large set of time-varying confounders and an instrumental variable design that leverages variation in regional democratic diffusions. Subsequent analysis suggests contestation, rather than participation, as a potential causal mechanism. Our findings contribute to the burgeoning literature on sources of state capacity in the developing world and yield practical implications for democracy assistance.

Background Spontaneous awakening and breathing trials have been associated with shorter durations of mechanical ventilation and intensive care unit lengths of stay. Local Problem Inconsistent spontaneous awakening trials and spontaneous breathing trials, mechanical ventilation weaning strategies, and interdisciplinary rounding processes contributed to prolonged mechanical ventilation duration and length of stay in a 44-bed adult medical intensive care unit. Methods A standardized rounding tool that focused on coordinating spontaneous awakening and breathing trials, and on their outcomes, was integrated into daily multidisciplinary rounds in a medical intensive care unit. Aggregated patient data from the 4-month project implementation phase were compared with historical data collected for 2 months before project implementation. Results During the 2-month preintervention phase, 613 adult patients were managed in the medical intensive care unit and 41 patients required mechanical ventilation, whereas during the 4-month intervention phase, 1271 patients were managed in the unit and 96 patients required mechanical ventilation. The project was associated with a 24% (0.89-day) reduction in the mean length of stay (3.72 vs 2.83 days) and a 46.3% (2.81 day) reduction in mechanical ventilation duration (6.06 vs 3.25 days) when comparing August 2019 to January 2020. Discussion A standardized rounding tool emphasizing a coordinated process for spontaneous awakening and breathing trials was associated with a shorter length of stay and duration of mechanical ventilation among patients in the medical intensive care unit. Conclusion An evidence-based approach to weaning from mechanical ventilation and standardized rounding may be a cost-effective way to reduce mechanical ventilation duration and length of stay in a medical intensive care unit.

AbstractThe potential exposure to organisms and humans of pharmaceutical waste presents society with a wicked problem. The health benefits of pharmaceuticals are obvious, but the public awakening to the risks posed by pharmaceutical residues in the environment is in its early stages. Regulators in the US and the EU require an environmental risk assessment of a medicinal product before it can enter the market. This article compares the US and EU approach to assessing these risks, with the purpose of providing a different perspective on how to approach this delicate balancing act of risk and benefit and to reveal the different values underpinning the risk assessment.

Two paradigms cross the history of medical science the rationalist and holistic one.Western modern medicine seems to be prevalent at present time due to the great achievements and extraordinary technological progress. For the original and holistic tradition medical act consists in restoring the balance by awakening the ‘healing force of nature,’ since the body possesses the means to heal itself. Modern Medicine believes in technology and drugs. This work suggests an Integral and Transpersonal approach to Medicine, in order to get not only the cure of symptoms but also the Self – Realization, and development of the creative potential of individuals.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to offer a political perspective on modifications in corporate governance regulation. In the wake of the financial crisis, the investment rationale of institutional investors is being pushed away from a focus on financial market liquidity and short-term trading. From a political perspective, this modification entails consideration both of investment horizon and of the definition of corporate value. Design/methodology/approach The paper narrates the historical policy debate on institutional investors as corporate governors. Building on this point, a conceptual framework is developed to further the understanding of the current shifts in policy debate of institutional investors as governors. Findings The authors find a strong policy impetus to move away from certain liberal market assumptions of efficient financial markets and the positive effects of privatization, toward viewing markets as institutionally embedded. Based on their knowledge of corporate governance regimes’ political economy, the authors argue that this shift brings intensified engagement of institutional investors in corporate affairs. The reasons for why and how this might be politically contested are specified. In conclusion, propositions regarding the outcome of such contestation in different national corporate governance regimes are offered. Originality/value Pointing to the predominantly European stakeholder value versus shareholder value discussion, the authors claim that the corporate governance policy debate related to intensified engagement of institutional investors in corporate affairs is still in its infancy. Their political perspective, including propositions for further elaboration, offers a contribution to further academic debate.

This paper aims to study and understand the internal conflicts that occurred in the National Awakening Party of Subang Regency in 2018 and how the conflict resolution was carried out by internal parties. The method uses a qualitative approach. Data and information obtained through observation, interview and library research methods. The data and arguments built in this writing are sourced from literature, such as books related to political party conflicts, materials that are already in written form and other sources that support primary data sources such as documentation, theses, theses, journals. and other scientific papers or from the internet, websites or blogs as well as to informants in the field through interviews. The results showed that the internal conflict of the National Awakening Party was caused by differences in political views in determining the choice of the candidate for the Regional Head of Subang Regency in 2018. This happened when there was a difference between Andi Lukman Hakim, Chair of the Subang National Awakening Party Branch Management Board who supported the Dedi pair. Junaedi-Budi Setiadi. Meanwhile, the Central Executive Board Decree fell to the pair Hj. Imas Aryumningsih-Sutarno. The conflict then led to the freezing of the Subang District PKB DPC, and was taken over by the caretaker management. Another factor that triggered the conflict was the power struggle after Andi's management was frozen. Therefore, it is necessary to have conflict resolution carried out by internal parties.

Drawing on in-depth, narrative interviews with 24 self-identified Otherkin, Therianthropes, and Vampires, we explore how members of these communities navigate Bamberg’s three “dilemmatic spaces” or tensions of continuity/change, similarity/difference, and person-to-world/world-to-person fit. With regard to the first, we identify four aetiological narratives (walk-ins, reincarnation, trapped soul, and evolutionary soul), and discuss stories of shifts and awakening. For the second, we discuss how participants manage the similarity/difference tension with regard to themselves and humans, and explore categorical and renunciatory othering within the communities. Finally, we explore the ways in which members of the communities experience a barren narrative environment, and ways they seek to construct storyworlds and narrative resources as frames for establishing their identities.

AbstractThe study of the moral sense was neglected for a long time in psychology until recently when Kohlberg, following the work of Piaget, constructed a scale for studying moral judgments. In this article the more scientific and empirical approach to the moral sense is questioned and an argument is made that a qualitative approach would yield more meaningful results. The work of Coles is cited as one example of a qualitative approach, and this article suggests a phenomenological approach. Five brief descriptions describing learning, resentment, decision-making, and the experience of autonomy were used for both analyses of the moral sense and psychological concomitants. The results indicate that the moral sense is a meaning that refers to an "ought" and that the awakening of the moral sense is frequently associated with negative emotions or feelings.

The importance of plants and other natural reserves as sources for biologically important compounds, particularly for application in food and medicine, is undeniable. Herein we provide a historical context of the major scientific research programs conducted in Australia that have been aimed at discovering novel bioactive natural products from terrestrial plants. Generally speaking, the main approaches used to guide the discovery of novel bioactive compounds from natural resources have included random, ethnobotanical and chemotaxonomic strategies. Previous Australian plant natural product research campaigns appear to have lacked the use of a fourth strategy with equally high potential, namely the ecologically guided approach. In addition, many large studies have sampled plant material predominantly from tropical regions of Australia, even though arid and semi-arid zones make up 70% of mainland Australia. Therefore, plants growing in arid zone environments, which are exposed to different external stressors (e.g. low rainfall, high ultraviolet exposure) compared with tropical flora, remain an untapped reservoir of potentially novel bioactive compounds. Research of Australian arid zone plants that is ecologically guided creates a new opportunity for the discovery of novel bioactive compounds from plants (and potentially other biota) for application in health care, food and agricultural industries.

Abstract Dexmedetomidine has a dose-dependent sedative and analgesic effect. To further evaluate the wake-up quality of dexmedetomidine in patients undergoing neurosurgery, a meta-analysis of dexmedetomidine in a randomized controlled trial of general anesthesia was performed. Firstly, an experimental algorithm was proposed, and then the data fusion algorithm was used to conduct randomized controlled trials. The clinical efficacy and safety of dexmedetomidine in the acupuncture of neurosurgical patients were evaluated one by one for quality evaluation and data extraction. The effect of different input variables on the depth of anesthesia was studied by using a multi-data fusion approach. The results show that the data fusion algorithm proposed can effectively connect redundant information and complementary information in multiple data, and estimate the real parameters of the measured object. In addition, data fusion brings great convenience to the design of control algorithms and controllers, and provides an effective basis for system simplification. Experiments have shown that dexmedetomidine is effective and safe in the operation of neurosurgical motor function, and the management of the recovery period is safe and effective. Based on the research, it can provide some reference for the awakening of patients undergoing neurosurgery, and promote the progress and development of medicine.

Abstract I approach Murasaki Shikibu’s marvelous literary pearl The Tale of Genji (Genji Monogatari) as analogous to glistening orbs that “come out of the disease of suffering oysters,” the suffering being the death of her beloved husband Fujiwara no Nobutaka (950?–1001). In addition to drawing evidence from the novel itself, I have relied on Murasaki’s lesser-known Poetic Memoirs and Diary that offer important insights into her state of mind and circumspect literary style. The Lotus Sūtra is the key that unlocks Murasaki’s philosophical intent, with its use of parables and poems to provoke deeper understandings of Buddhism and personal realizations. The Buddhist principle of impermanence (Sanskrit anitya; Japanese mujōkan) serves as both the aesthetic of aware and an unavoidable fact that residents of the Heian court (like those in the Lotus Sūtra’s Burning House) choose to ignore or escape by reveling in superficial pursuits of beauty and political power. Various characters in the novel attempt to follow the path to the epistemological awakening the author Murasaki sought for herself.

I first encountered the work of John Corrigan in graduate school. Catherine L. Albanese had assigned his book Business of the Heart in a seminar I was taking. I loved the book, but also felt troubled by it. It focused on religious revivals, a topic I was very interested in. But his approach to revival was clearly not my approach to revival. Corrigan used a mid-nineteenth century religious awakening to offer a compelling and innovative look at a subject I had never considered historically—emotions. Corrigan was asking different questions of his sources than I did, and as a result, he came to very different conclusions than I would have.

Postdisciplinarity makes claims on ontological, epistemic, and methodological levels, but it is inevitably a personal philosophical stance. This article represents an existentialist approach to the discourse on postdisciplinarity, offering reflective narratives of three academics. Tomas Pernecky discusses creativity, criticality, freedom, and methodological and epistemic pluralism; Ana María Munar reveals her journey of epistemological awakening; and Brian Wheeller underscores the importance of researchers' subjective and emotive voice. Jointly, the authors depict postdisciplinarity as an invitation to conceptual and interpretive eclecticism, critical analysis, and creative problem solving.

The Sunrise and Troubadour fields form a complex of giant gas-condensate accumulations located in the Timor Sea some 450 km northwest of Darwin. Left unappraised for almost a quarter of a century since discovery, recently renewed attention has brought these stranded hydrocarbon accumulations to the point of comm-ercialisation.A focussed appraisal program during 1997–1999 driven by expectations of growth in LNG and domestic gas markets, involved the acquisition and processing of an extensive grid of modern 2D seismic and the drilling, coring and testing of three wells. The aim of this program was to quantify better both in-place hydrocarbon volumes (reservoir properties and their distribution) and hydrocarbon recovery efficiency (gas quality and deliverability). Maximum value has been extracted from these data via a combination of deterministic and probabilistic methods, and the integration of analyses across all disciplines. This paper provides an overview of these efforts, describes the fields and details major subsurface uncertainties. Key aspects are:3D, object-based geological modelling of the reservoir, covering the spectrum of plausible sedimentological interpretations.Convolution of rock properties, derived from seismic (AVO) inversion, with 3D geological model realisations to define reservoir properties in inter-well areas.Incorporation of faults (both seismically mapped and probabilistically modelled sub-seismic faults) into both the static 3D reservoir models and the dynamic reservoir simulations.Interpretation of a tilted gas-water contact apparently arising from flow of water in the Plover aquifer away from active tectonism to the north.Extensive gas and condensate fluid analysis and modelling.Scenario-based approach to dynamic modelling. In summary, acquisition of an extensive suite of quality data during the past two-three years coupled with novel, integrated, state-of-the-art analysis of the subsurface has led to a major increase in estimates of potentially recoverable gas and condensate. Improved volumetric confidence in conjunction with both traditional and innovative engineering design (e.g. Floating Liquefied Natural Gas technology) has made viable a range of possible commercial developments from 2005 onwards.

Music Education, heretofore referred to as "Musical Awakening" ("MA") of pre-school aged children, isn’t intended to develop musical skills as an academic pursuit but rather hopes to facilitate the blossoming of individual personalities. The goal is to foster enhanced expression, relaxation, communication, and socialization. To create a pedagogical model of MA, several musical activities were designed. The aim of the study is to quantify and qualify experimentally acquired data for the purpose of the implementing a pedagogical approach to MA. Musical aptitude, psychological factors, behavioral characteristics, and reactions were considered and documented. The sample size consists of 8 children (postnatal and preschool aged) participating in a regimen of 9 educational activities distributed over 5 lessons. A limited statistical sample is presented here. Our model includes the performance of, and the reaction to, musical activities relative to 4 criteria: Behavior; Expressiveness; Vocalization (participation in song); Mobility (response to percussion instruments). Ultimately, conclusions are drawn from the acquired data and these observations are summarized here for the purpose of creating a pedagogical model that is useful to teachers. Casual and anecdotal observations are referenced within this study but are simply stated to provide commentary. This study is presented for the purpose of enhancing ways by which pre-school music educators can better understand and interact with their pupils.

Abstract Introduction Biomathematical models of fatigue typically include sleep inertia as an additive process during wakefulness. However, there is predictive information to be gained from tracking the propensity for sleep inertia through sleep periods. We propose a novel approach involving a neurobiological sleep inertia process with relatively fast dynamics (in the order of several minutes) interacting with the much slower dynamics of the established processes of sleep/wake regulation. This sleep inertia process is captured by the addition of two ordinary differential equations (ODEs) in the model framework of McCauley and colleagues (2009, 2013, 2021) – one for wakefulness to track impairment from sleep inertia, and one for sleep to track the propensity for sleep inertia upon awakening. A single time constant is introduced to control the dynamic behavior of these ODEs to capture the dynamics of sleep inertia. Methods 398 healthy young adults (ages 21–49 years) each participated in one of eight multi-day laboratory studies of total sleep deprivation, sustained sleep restriction, or simulated shift work. At 2–4 hour intervals while awake, participants performed a Psychomotor Vigilance Test (PVT), for which number of lapses (RT>500ms) was assessed, and rated their sleepiness on the Karolinska Sleepiness Scale (KSS). Sleep periods were recorded polysomnographically. Data were divided into a calibration set (five studies) used to estimate a single new model parameter capturing sleep inertia, and a validation set (three studies) used to independently verify model validity. Results Based on the calibration data set, the sleep inertia time constant estimate was 0.71h±0.01. Based on the validation data set, goodness-of-fit root-mean-square-error was 2.28 for PVT and 0.733 for KSS, indicating high predictive accuracy. A dynamic buildup and then decline of predicted propensity for sleep inertia during sleep emerged, peaking 2–3h into the sleep period. Conclusion The model expansion with a one-parameter sleep inertia process captured the transient effect of sleep inertia accurately across a range of sleep deprivation, sleep restriction, and simulated shift work scenarios. The emerging dynamic of sleep inertia propensity during sleep is consistent with findings on the magnitude of sleep inertia as a function of sleep duration and stage of awakening. This study sheds light on the identity of Islamic education in Indonesia and Singapore to fight against radicalism. This study focuses on comparing Indonesia and Singapore in awakening multicultural consciousness, particularly on philosophical and practical religious education. The crisis of ideology faced by Muslim society in the world has an impact on the genesis of religious movements that legitimate violence and terrorism. This study is based on the sociological perspective and aimed at knowing the philosophical and practical construction of Islamic education in Indonesia and Singapore. The focus of this study is on preventive and persuasive deradicalization. Religious education institutions in both countries have multi principles and practices of education, which is implemented particularly in preventing Islamic ideology that teaches violent values and terrorism. Anticipating the development of understanding radicalism, in both countries, Islamic education has formulated policies that are accommodating with universal values and cosmopolitanism of Islamic civilization. Such efforts are implemented by pesantren and madrasah in Indonesia and Singapore to build harmony among fellow human beings and transmit the character of egalitarian, democratic, humanist, inclusive, and civilized.

Abstract Climate Change due to anthropogenic factors and its repercussions in the form of disastrous environmental calamities is the burning issue in the current scenario. People of different fields are trying every possible means to bring awakening in the populace. The field of literature is also making contributions to this noble cause. Cli-fi or Climate Change Fiction is the newfangled branch of Ecocriticism from the field of literature, which is entirely dedicated to dealing with and bringing up climate change problems, global warming and likewise. The impact of this genre of literature has brought up the positive impact on the wider range of the population in simple language as compared to that of the technical language. Thus, this research study aims to bring forth the advancement of environmental concern employing Cli-fi or Climate Change Fiction by analysing James Bradley’s work Clade as a prototype and inclusively quoting other key literary works in this genre and their primary contributions made in this field of operation. The narrative technique with vivid descriptions, the mapping of the psychological awakening of emotions towards environmental concern and the portrayal of environmental calamities will pave the way and establish the advanced approach of literature for environmental concern and climate change.

The research suggests understandings about the importance of activation (of/from/in) the body with the systems (culture/communication/health) through somatic‐performative experiences; by means of which the anaesthetized body is destabilized for an awakening of states of the Mestizo Corporalities in the (re)cognition of the tropical/vibrant body. The initiative has fostered the ecology of knowledge, as well as a decolonial education in a research proposal that aims to anthropofagize these experiences in movement of the performer-researcher for an activation/reactivation of diverse points of view incorporating several principles of the somatic‐performative approach, embracing the (inter)arts as an actuator of relationships with nature-life-world, their religious-ritualistic syncretisms and the day-to-day experiences, as well as the paths-identities of the performer-person-researcher. This narrative aims to incorporate completed performances and expose how these paths affect my identity networks; it is in this flow of interactions that articulate transpositions of learning and their different contributions to systems (culture‐communication‐health) that somatic‐performative experiences renew the awakening to the mestizo vibrational body and in some way force the presence of practice research for other methodologies for a decolonial education and knowledge ecology.

Abstract This article examines the possibility to draw a comparison between intellectual features of the Italian peninsula and of the Arab provinces of the Eastern Mediterranean during nineteenth century movements of “awakening” (Risorgimento and Nahḍah). By putting aside issues of national historiography, this study attempts to investigate the cultural debates in the area with a comparative approach and a focus on the concept of cultural transfer. It discusses in particular the widespread circulation of translations and the rise of debates about language, to underscore the need to interrogate the concept of modernity from a multidisciplinary and comparative perspective.

Under Gorbachev, the Soviet government proved unable to face the dismantling tendencies that led ultimately to the collapse of the Soviet Union as a political regime and a territorial state—the awakening of nationalism, the loss of state legitimacy, ecological disaster, and financial crisis, to name only a few. This article reveals that the Soviet government was acutely aware of these growing risks and of the need to address them in a new way. It analyzes how emergency management developed in the Soviet Union at the end of the 1980s and draws attention to the activity of the State Commission for Emergency Situations (GKChS), a little-known, but influential governmental agency created in July 1989 to respond to the disasters plaguing the country, be they industrial, natural, ecological, or social.
