Despite the importance of study skills counselling, students in Ghana are not explicitly taught how to study. This study, therefore, explored the effects of study skills counselling on the study behaviour of senior high school students in the Ho Municipality of Ghana. The quasi-experimental, pre-test, post-test control group design was adopted for the study. The target population of the study consisted of all senior high school form one students. A sample of 40 respondents was selected through the simple random sampling technique. A study behaviour inventory was used in gathering the data. Three hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. Data were analysed using independent samples t-test. The findings revealed that study skills counselling significantly improved the study behaviour of participants when compared with the control group. It was also discovered that study skills counselling had significant effects on all the five components of study behaviour at post-test. In contrast, the results indicated that gender did not have significant influence on study behaviour at post-test. Based on the findings, it was recommended that study skills counselling be adopted as a viable approach for improving study behaviour among senior school students so as to enhance their academic achievement. Implications for counselling were also provided.

Background: This study determined the prevalence of risky sexual behaviour and its associated factors among clients who accessed HIV counselling and testing services at a secondary referral hospital in Lagos, Nigeria. Methods: A retrospective review of clients’ records was conducted. The Client Intake Form of people who accessed HIV counselling and testing services at Mainland Hospital in Lagos, Nigeria between July 1, 2016, and December 31, 2017, were reviewed. Multivariate analysis was conducted to determine the associated factors of risky sexual behaviour. Results: A total of 4273 client’s records were analyzed, 3884 (90.9%) reported having sex before HIV counselling and testing (HCT). The prevalence of risky sexual behaviour among clients was 41.5%. More males and HIV positive clients had unprotected sex with a casual partner three months before HIV counselling and testing (p < 0.05). More singles than the married had unprotected sex with casual partners (p <0.001) and multiple sexual partners (p =0.002). The prevalence of risky sexual behaviour reduced with advancing age. Being single and having an HIV infection were associated with risky sexual behaviour in this study. Conclusion: Age, marital status and HIV status were associated factors of risky sexual behaviour. Health is an important concern among the community, including dental and oral health. Dental caries is a common problem in Indonesia that is often neglected by patients.Education on the importance of dental health through promotional media such as animated video is needed in order tochange community’s behaviour regarding this issue. This study examined the effect of counselling using animated video on elementary school students’ behaviour regarding dental caries issue. This quasi-experimental study employed one group pre-test post-test design, involving 56 students from third, fourth and fifth grades at SDN SrondolWetan 02 Banyumanik, Semarang City as population and samples. Data were analysed using t-test, which results indicated gaps in students’ knowledge, attitudes and actions regarding dental caries before and after counselling using animated video (p value: 0.000). It is concluded that counselling using animated video can improve the behaviour regarding dental caries among students of the third, fourth and fifth grades at SDN Srondol Wetan 02 Banyumanik, Semarang City.Keywords :counselling, animated video, behaviour

The purpose of this study was to test the effectiveness of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) counselling to reduce bullying behaviour in students of SMP Negeri 2 Angsana. This study used the Single-Subject Design (SSD) method with multiple baseline cross-variable patterns conducted in 11 observation sessions consisting of 3 baseline A1 sessions, 6 intervention sessions and 3 baseline A2 sessions. In conducting observations, researchers used the Goal Attainment Scaling (GAS) instrument and analyzed using visual charts. Math anxiety is one of the causes of the low achievement of students in mathematics lessons. Guidance and counselling teachers need strategies for students who experience math anxiety. This study aims to determine an effective counselling approach to reduce students' math anxiety. This type of research is a single subject experiment with multiple baseline designs. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The research subjects were 2 individuals. The data analysis technique consisted of data analysis using Mann Whitney and qualitative time triangulation techniques. Based on the research results, cognitive behaviour therapy and music counselling can reduce students' math anxiety. Several techniques in cognitive behaviour therapy affect many aspects such as feelings, thoughts, physical sensations, and actions. In music counselling, the lyrics and lyrics of the songs shift the focus of the individual who was originally fixated on the fear of facing math problems to become calmer during math lessons

Discipline is a positive and constructive force in shaping children's character related to the environment; the application of disciplinary values must be carried out continuously, to achieve all expected goals. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of Islamic value-based group counselling to reduce students' late behaviour. The instrument used in this study was a late behaviour questionnaire. The research was conducted at one of Budi Mulia Utama Senior High School in East Jakarta, with 8 students as the research subject. The design that will be used is one group pretest-posttest design. The results of the t-test data analysis showed that Islamic value-based group counselling was effective in reducing students' late behaviour. The findings in the field show that students' late behaviour has decreased after being given group counselling services. Group counselling is carried out by internalizing Islamic values related to discipline in service content at each stage of its implementation. Cultivating Islamic values builds children's awareness of discipline and values time and forms a responsible character.

Physical activity counselling has demonstrated effectiveness at increasing physical activity when delivered in healthcare, but is not routinely practised. This study aimed to determine (1) current use of physical activity counselling by physiotherapists working within publicly funded hospitals; and (2) influences on this behaviour. A cross-sectional survey of physiotherapists was conducted across five hospitals within a local health district in Sydney, Australia. The survey investigated physiotherapists’ frequency of incorporating 15 different elements of physical activity counselling into their usual healthcare interactions, and 53 potential influences on their behaviour framed by the COM-B (Capability, Opportunity, Motivation-Behaviour) model. The sample comprised 84 physiotherapists (79% female, 48% <5 years of experience). Physiotherapists reported using on average five (SD:3) elements of physical activity counselling with at least 50% of their patients who could be more active. A total of 70% of physiotherapists raised or discussed overall physical activity, but less than 10% measured physical activity or contacted community physical activity providers. Physiotherapists reported on average 25 (SD:9) barriers influencing their use of physical activity counselling. The most common barriers were related to “opportunity”, with 57% indicating difficulty locating suitable community physical activity opportunities and >90% indicating their patients lacked financial and transport opportunities. These findings confirm that physical activity counselling is not routinely incorporated in physiotherapy practice and help to identify implementation strategies to build clinicians’ opportunities and capabilities to deliver physical activity counselling.

The aim of this study is to examine the responses of university students in social anxiety situations in order to create a psychological counselling program with a structured group based on Cognitive Behavioural and Existential Approaches. These responses involve the behaviour and thoughts of the university students in situations where they experience or anticipate social anxiety. The semi-structured interview form developed by the researchers was used in the study during the face-to-face interviews with fifty-one 4th year students from the Guidance and Psychological Counselling (GPC) and Pre-School Teaching (PST) departments. The scope of the interview form includes the situations where 1) students experience social anxiety in the school setting and their thoughts and behaviours regarding these situations, 2) the situations where they anticipate social anxiety in their future profession, and 3) the situations where they experience social anxiety in their daily lives. Our aim was to collect data from these areas. The data collected were analysed through content analysis. The findings of the study revealed that the thoughts regarding the social anxiety situations of the final year students studying in Guidance and Psychological Counselling and Pre-School Teaching departments are generally negative and their behaviour usually presents as desertion or avoidance.Keywords: university students, social anxiety, group counselling.

Background Despite recent interest in the mental health benefits of increasing physical activity (PA) and reducing sedentary behaviour (SB), little is known about PA and SB counselling provided by mental health professionals. Therefore, the aim of this study was to explore the attitudes and practices of mental health professionals in recommending more PA and less SB to their clients. Methods Quantitative data were collected using a modified version of the Exercise in Mental Illness Questionnaire in a sample of 17 Australian mental health professionals. The collected data were reported using percentages (for categorical data) and means and standard deviations (for numerical data). Additionally, in focus group discussions, 10 mental health professionals provided in-depth information about their clinical practice, facilitators, and perceived barriers in recommending more PA and less SB. They also provided suggestions on how to potentially improve their PA and SB counselling practices. The focus groups were audio-recorded, transcribed and analysed using thematic analysis. Results Only 35.3% of participants have undergone formal training in recommending PA in the treatment of mental illness. Most participants (64.7%) ranked PA counselling among the top three types of mental health treatment. All participants reported recommending PA to their clients at least “occasionally”, while 88% of them also provided SB counselling. However, the recommendations provided were usually not specific. The most commonly reported barriers for providing PA and SB counselling were a lack of knowledge and confidence. Participants also believed that, if they were more active themselves, they would be in a better position to recommend PA to their clients, by sharing their own experience of evidence-informed strategies designed to increase PA and reduce SB. Conclusion The findings of this study indicate that mental health professionals commonly provide generic PA and SB counselling to their clients. PA and SB counselling in the mental health setting could be improved by: including training on PA and SB counselling in formal education and continued professional training for mental health professionals; implementing interventions to increase PA and reduce SB among mental health professionals themselves; and ensuring support from an exercise or PA promotion specialist as a part of a multi-disciplinary approach to mental health care.

Background: Non-communicable diseases are now the major cause of death in India, with cardiovascular diseases being the dominant cause. Very few studies had been done regarding patients perception of risk factors, behaviour change and counselling. So this study is based on patient perspective and role of health education for patients. The objective of the study was to identify the risk factors of CHD, to assess behaviour changes whether lifestyle and habits modified by patients of CHD, to assess perception, to assess effectiveness of counselling.Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in 174 patients attending follow up Out Patient Department in Tertiary Care Hospital, Bhavnagar using questionnaire which includes personal data, BMI, history of risk factors, behaviour change and medical counselling. Data was analyzed by epi info and appropriate statistical tests were applied.Results: Total 73 patients were addicted to tobacco; smoking or alcohol. Mean duration of addiction was 22.43 years. Counselling was given by doctors at the time of illness to 94% patients. Counselling regarding disease, risk factors, lifestyle modification has got positive effect in 96% patients and only 4% patients were in need of further future counselling.Conclusions: More and more emphasis should be given to preventive aspect and population should be given counselling before actual illness.

This study determined the effect of Solution focused brief counselling technique on procrastination behaviour among primary school teachers in Bauchi metropolis, Bauchi State Nigeria. The study was guided by two research questions and hypotheses. A quasi-experimental design was used while all primary school teachers with procrastination behaviour in Bauchi metropolis were the population out which 27 teachers purposively selected were the sample for study. The Procrastination Scale developed by Lay (1986) with twenty (20) item questions was adapted by changing some items to suit present study. Items were mixed in the scale used as an instrument to avoid copy from each other for data collection; data collected were analyzed using t-test and analysis of covariance. Findings revealed that there is significant effect exist in the solution focused brief counselling technique on situational dimension procrastination behaviour among primary school teachers in Bauchi metropolis (t = 8.710. p=0.00). This implies that solution focus brief counselling technique is effective in reducing (situational dimension) procrastination behaviour among primary school teachers in Bauchi metropolis (7.417. p=0.00.). Among the recommendations given counsellors and psychologists should be trained and encouraged to use Solution focused; brief counselling technique to re-addressing primary school teachers with situational dimension or trait dimension of procrastination behaviour in Bauchi metropolis to enhance their teaching activities.

Counselling service and HIV test is indespensable for a group of highly risky people to be willing to have a test. One of higly risky groups is gay, transexual and homosexual (GWL). Based on surveys in the beginning the members of GWL that benefitted couselling service and HIV test in Jambi city is still low with 46,80 percentage.The purpose of the research is to know factors related to behaviour of GWL in utilising couselling service and HIV test. This analytic research and descriptive analytic approach use crossectional design. The number of population in this research comprises 210 respondens, but the qualified of inclusion criteria is 89 respondens. The data was taken using questionnaire analyzed in univariat and bivariat using chi-square.Based on the result of analysis, gotten that most of respondens have low knowledge and education as many as 38,2%, possitive attitude in number of (41,6%) and the role of VCT officers comprises 56,2%, where there is a relation between knowledge with the the behaviour of GWL utilising counselling service and HIV test with p-value = 0,000, comprises relation between attitude and behaviour utilising counselling service and HIV test withp-value = 0,000, and there is relationship between VCT officers and the behaviour of GWL in utilising counselling service and HIV test with p-value0,000.Hopefully that the VCT officers and LSM MWGJ improve elucidation regularly, directly or indirectly through information media, persuading and supporting so that the members GWL (Gay, Transexual, Homosexual) to utilise counselling service and HIV test.

Results are presented from a randomized controlled trial indicating which psychotic symptoms respond to cognitive behaviour therapy. The aim of the study was to investigate whether different types of psychotic symptoms are more or less responsive to cognitive-behaviour therapy compared to treatment received by control groups. Seventy-two patients suffering from chronic schizophrenia who experienced persistent positive psychotic symptoms were assessed at baseline and randomized to either cognitive-behaviour therapy and routine care, supportive counselling and routine care, or routine care alone and were re-assessed after 3 months of treatment (post-treatment). Independent and blind assessment of outcome indicated delusions significantly improved with both cognitive behaviour therapy and supportive counselling compared to routine care. Hallucinations significantly decreased with cognitive-behaviour therapy compared to supportive counselling. There was no difference in the percentage change of hallucinations compared to delusions in patients treated by cognitive behaviour therapy. There was little change in measures of affective symptoms but there was no evidence that a reduction in positive symptoms was associated with an increase in depres sion. In fact, a reduction in positive symptoms was positively correlated with a reduction in depression. There were significant differences in the reductions in thought disorder and negative symptoms with an advantage of cognitive-behaviour therapy compared to routine care.

This study purposed to determine the impact of counselling services on sexual behaviours of HIV/AIDS victims in Kenya. The study used a case study design. The target population was 300,000 people affected and infected by HIV and AIDS epidemic within Kisii Municipality. From an accessible population of 500 people, a sample size of 239 was purposively selected, out of which 128 PLWHAS were support group members, whereas 74 were not, and 25 were family caregivers. Data were collected using questionnaires. A pilot study was done to determine the reliability of the instruments. The questionnaires yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.7815. SPSS version 12.5 was used to analyse data. The t-tests were employed to establish any differences between support group attendances, gender and stress levels of PLWHAS. On the other hand, the Chi-square test was n employed to establish any association between Mwanyagetinge Community-Based Care and counselling services and the sexual behaviour of PLWHAS. The study concluded that the provision of counselling services in the Mwanyagetinge centre was adequate. After infection, the majority of PLWHAS had their sexual interest reduced considerably. An attribute that can be exploited to embrace positive sexual behaviour like abstinence and the use of condoms. This study recommends that support group therapy be encouraged in churches and schools to avoid isolation and loneliness to sustain positive behaviour and prolong the lives of PLWHAS.

Prosocial behaviour needs to be developed because it is needed to make it easier to interact and establish relationships with others. This study aims to determine the level of effectiveness of group counselling in the Rational Emotive Behaviour (REBT) approach to the improvement of prosocial behaviour in class XI students. This type of research is quantitative with a form of quasi-experimental research. The subjects of the study were 132 students. The instrument used was a scale that contained 51 statement items. Analysis of the data used in this study is the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test using the help of IBM SPSS v.22. The Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test is used to test the differences and the magnitude of the pre-test and post-test results. This research went through four steps pre-test and post-test to get the results that were wanted. The results of the fourth per-test and post-test revealed that if (p) = 0.018, it was smaller than 0.05 (0.018 <0.05), which means it had a high level of effectiveness, meaning that there were differences in prosocial behaviour before and after group counselling using the Rational Emotive Behaviour (REBT) approach.

The purpose of this study was to determine the level of truant behaviour in students and find out the effectiveness of group counselling services assisted by problem-solving methods to decrease missing behaviour in students. The research methodology used is the experiment. The population in this study were two palangkaraya public high school students with sample X SMA Negeri 2 palangkaraya. The results showed that group counselling with practical problem-solving techniques to reduce students' truant behaviour was evidenced by the scale pretest and posttest scores that had been distributed to 8 LA students (148) reduced to 60, EDL (125) reduced to 55, AWN (121) reduced to 73. RFBB (154) reduced to 98, AYS (152) decreased to 131, pns (114) reduced to 57, gesp (132) reduced to 55, and ET (127) reduced to 72 resulting in a decrease in the average pre-test and post- results test. The reduction in the first average was 191.50 to 69.00, with an average decrease of 65.13. So from that group counselling with excellent problem-solving techniques to be applied to the world of education as one form of guidance and counselling services at school.

The objective of the present study was to examine the psychological impact of a group-oriented approach to disease management and health behaviour in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Seventeen overweight PCOS women were randomised in a crossover design of eight weeks high-intensity aerobic exercise followed by eight weeks of group counselling (n=8) or vice versa (n=9). Interpersonal communication, emotional and relational aspects were observed and analysed throughout the period focusing on changes in health behaviour. The most salient findings showed supportive relationships expressed as group cohesion, exchange of narratives of illness and of disorder-specific aspects. Individual relationships between the participants were important for changes in behaviour, especially those generating feedback from the other participants and reducing social isolation. The results were most encouraging in the group that had initial counselling sessions before the physical intervention. It can be concluded that group counselling sessions focusing on supportive relationships followed by high-intensity aerobic training have beneficial effects on wellbeing, health and exercise behaviour.

IntroductionTreatment fidelity is an important and often neglected component of complex behaviour change research. It is central to understanding treatment effects, especially for evaluations conducted outside of highly controlled research settings. Ensuring that promising interventions can be delivered adequately (ie, with fidelity) by real-world clinicians within real-world settings is an essential step in developing interventions that are both effective and ‘implementable’. Whether this is the case for behaviour change counselling, a complex intervention developed specifically for maximising the effectiveness of real-world consultations about health behaviour change, remains unclear. To improve our understanding of treatment effects, best practice guidelines recommend the use of strategies to enhance, monitor and evaluate what clinicians deliver during patient consultations. There has yet to be a systematic evaluation of whether and how these recommendations have been employed within evaluations of behaviour change counselling, nor the impact on patient health behaviour and/or outcome. We seek to address this gap.Methods and analysisMethods are informed by published guidelines. Ten electronic databases (Medline, PubMed, EMBASE, PsycINFO, CINAHL Complete, ScienceDirect, Taylor and Francis; Wiley, ProQuest and Open Grey) will be searched for published and unpublished articles that evaluate behaviour change counselling within real-world clinical settings (randomised and non-randomised). Eligible papers will be rated against the National Institute of Health fidelity framework. A synthesis, evaluation and critical overview of fidelity practices will be reported and linear regression used to explore change across time. Random-effect meta-regression is planned to explore whether fidelity (outcomes reported and methods used) is associated with the impact of behaviour change counselling. Standardised effect sizes will be calculated using Hedges’ g (continuous outcomes) and ORs (binary/dichotomous outcomes).Ethics and disseminationNo ethical issues are foreseen. Objective: Estimates for the prevalence of hepatitis C among people with a serious mental illness are high compared with the general population. High-risk behaviours commonly associated with mental illness may contribute to the estimated increased prevalence. This study aims to assess the contribution of risk behaviours to blood-borne virus infection in psychiatric populations in Australia, and to determine whether a pre- and post-test education and counselling program increases the number of patients willing to be tested for hepatitis C. Method: The proportion of psychiatric inpatients being screened for hepatitis C at the Alfred Hospital over a 6-month period was obtained by retrospective review of the number of admissions and hepatitis C serology tests. The change in screening rate was prospectively recorded following the introduction of an education and voluntary screening program. In the study period, 346 people were approached and 84 (24%) agreed to participate. Pre- and post-test counselling, including a thorough risk assessment, were offered to all participants. Venous blood was tested for hepatitis C. A modified version of the Risk Behaviour Questionnaire was used to measure sexual and drug-related risk behaviour. Results: The proportion of inpatients being tested for hepatitis C increased from 9% in the 6 months prior to the study, to 18% during the study (p <0.01). The rate of hepatitis C in those consenting to testing was 19.4%. Participants reported high rates of risk-taking behaviours, including intravenous drug use and unprotected sex. Conclusions: An education and counselling program can increase rates of screening among psychiatric inpatients. There are high rates of risk-taking behaviour among this group of psychiatric inpatients, which may contribute to the higher prevalence of hepatitis C compared to the general population.

This article provides an analysis of domestic and foreign literature on the concept of “adolescent addictive behaviour,” summarises its scientific understanding, and outlines the mechanisms of the emergence of addictive behaviour and psychological characteristics of adolescents exhibiting addictive behaviour. The study presents a review of modern research on the problems of Internet-, food-, and alcohol addictions. The review includes Russian, Kazakh and international literature on the psychological prevention of adolescent addictive behaviour. The concept of the “psychological prevention of adolescent addictive behaviour” is disclosed, and the principles and objectives of preventive work with adolescents prone to addictive behaviour are defined. A set of diagnostic techniques is proposed to study the predilection of adolescents to addictive behaviour. The article reveals the content and effectiveness of the programme for the psychological prevention of adolescents’ predisposition to addictive behaviour by means of group psychological counselling. The authors describe the course of experimental work on the study of adolescents’ predisposition to addictive behaviour, present the testing of the developed psychological programme, and demonstrate the effectiveness of adolescents’ group counselling to prevent their addictive behaviour. The results of the study confirm the authors’ hypothesis that the use of group forms of psychological counselling is effective in psychological prevention, as it relies on the activity of adolescents. The results of the study contribute to the development of preventive pedagogy and psychology, and the improvement of the modern system of anti-alcohol and anti-drug education of adolescents. The study findings can be also used in educational institutions in advisory and remedial work with adolescents.

Gastritis is an inflammation of the gastric mucosa that occurs due to lack of keeping diet, smoking, drinking coffee, eating spicy and sour. The incidence of healthy behavior starts from a good knowledge and obtained from the extension of health, so that health counseling needed in an environment of boarding schools in order that students behave in a healthy life. The purpose of this study was to analyze the influence of health education on knowledge and behaviour against gastritis prevention on students. Design research using Pre Experimental approach One Group Pre Test – Post Test Design. The sample of this research are all students PP. An-Nashriyah Bahrul ‘Ulum Tambakberas Jombang is 54 respondents using the total population. The data collected by using questionnaire and given health counselling before and after. Analysing ways is to use the wilcoxon test with a significance level of p ≤ 0.05. The results showed that there was influence of knowledge before and after the given health counselling about gastritis with significance p = 0.000. Likewise there are also preventive behavior influence with their significance was p = 0.002. This means that there are influences between health counselling about gastritis to knowledge and behavior of prevention. With the research community is expected to find out ways to prevent the occurrence of gastritis.

The study examined the dimension of online sexual behavior of tertiary institution students in Osun State, Nigeria. It also investigated the predictive contribution of demographic factors on online sexual behavior of students. Descriptive correlational design was adopted for the study. The population for the study consisted of all tertiary institution students in Osun State. A sample of 1600 students was selected to participate in the study. Online Sexual Behaviour Scale (OSBS) was the instrument designed and used to collect data for the study. Frequency counts was used to answer the research question while linear regression analysis used to test the research hypothesis. The findings showed that 34.1% of students sampled have experienced partnered-arousal with another person while 48.5% of them have experienced non- arousal. Only 17.4% of them have had experience of solitary arousal with another person. The result also showed that place of residence was the strongest predictor of online sexual behaviour among students (B = 12.164; t = 10.091; p < 0.05). This study concluded that demographic factors were predictive factors of online sexual behaviour among tertiary institution students. Thus, appropriate counselling implications were made, and it was recommended that counselling psychologists and sex educators should develop a comprehensive programme that will specifically promote safe online sexual practices among students.

But because of their exceptionality they do face special challenges, and so to help them a counsellor must recognise and understand these and the effects they can have. Personality and experience affect everyone's reactions to challenge. Some rise to them, seeing them merely as hurdles, while others succumb with poor adjustment, low self-concept and anxiety, all of which can put a break on school success and creativity. Informed, skilled and sympathetic counselling can be effective in helping the most able to become well adjusted adults.

Objective: To assess the knowledge with a diabetic foot ulcer, to evaluate the severity and grade of diabetic foot ulcer, to study the self-care behaviour and medication adherence in a patient with diabetic foot ulcer and to counsel the patients.Methods: The KAP, self-care foot behaviour and MMAS-8 questionnaire were given during interview; severity using Wagner’s scale was assessed. Knowledge, attitude, self-care foot practice and adherence was measured based on various parameters such as demographic factors, clinical characteristics, and medication taking characteristics. It was measured before and after the patient counselling to see improvement in the quality of life.Results: In the study period of 6 mo 111 cases were gathered. There were 74 (66%) patients who were illiterate; the patients with low economic status were 63 (56%). Patients who are illiterate have poor knowledge and poor self-care behaviour, in our study 74 (66%) are illiterate which improved after counselling and 59 patients with high knowledge. Medication adherence is also associated with the education of the patient. After counselling and providing knowledge most of the patients are having high KAP scores. Wagner’s scale for the study of the severity shows that most of the patients 30 out of 111 are having Grade 4 of the score which shows the need of counselling and education towards foot care. Improvement in the self-care practice and on safety and prevention was seen after counselling.Conclusion: Knowledge, attitude, self-care practice and adherence of the patient can be improved by establishing a good patient-provider relationship and giving proper patient counselling to the patient or their relatives.

AbstractVoluntary counselling and testing (VCT) for HIV has been promoted as a strategy to prevent HIV pandemics by changing sexual behaviour. Despite the provision of VCT in countries with generalized or high-burden epidemics, including Nigeria, the extent of its influence on behavioural change remains a conjecture. The main objective of this study was to examine the influence of HIV VCT on sexual behaviour changes among youths in Nigeria. The study utilized 2013 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) data. Data were analysed from a nationally representative sample drawn from 8046 females and 6031 males aged 15–24 giving a total sample of 14,077 never-married youths. Descriptive and analytical analyses were carried out, including multivariate logistic regression. The study found a low uptake of HIV VCT and regional variation in behavioural changes between female and male youths. Voluntary HIV counselling and testing was found to be a protective factor for condom use at last sex for female youths, but significantly reduced the likelihood of primary sexual abstinence for both females and males, as well as having a single sexual partner for female youths. After controlling HIV VCT with other variables, certain socioeconomic factors were found to be significantly associated with behavioural changes. Thus, the attitudes of most Nigerian youths towards voluntary HIV counselling and testing needs to be improved through socioeconomic factors for healthy sexual activity. To achieve this, government and non-governmental organizations, as well as religious leaders and policymakers, should engage in appropriate and long-term activities directed at the sexual health needs of never-married youths, through voluntary HIV counselling and testing, to encourage them to change their sexual behaviour.

Abstract Counselling has been identified as a key focus in addressing the mismatch between the needs of labour market and the products of the educational and training system. The objectives of the study are to examine the significant effect between Cognitive Behaviour Modification Strategies of counselling (CBMS) and awareness of Entrepreneurship education and also to investigate the effect of Counselling on Entrepreneurship Education. The Sample size consists of one hundred and sixty-five (165) employees out of the two hundred and eighty (280) employees of Centre for Entrepreneurship Studies Kwara State University Nigeria. Sample size was determined using Yard's formula. For this research, the quantitative research design was adopted. The instrument used for this research work was questionnaire. The instrument passed the following test of validity. These are: content test, criterion related test, construct test and discriminate validity. The data was analysed using manual and electronic based methods through the data preparation grid and statistical package for the social sciences, (SPSS). Linear regression analysis method and ANOVA was employed to test the hypothesis. The study found out that there was a significant effect between Counselling and Entrepreneurship Education and also CBMS significantly affects awareness of Entrepreneurship education. Based on the results of the study, the study recommends that Cognitive Behaviour Modification Strategies of counselling (CBMS) should be used to instil awareness of Entrepreneurship Education and Career counselling which emphasizes entrepreneurial should never be overlooked in any programme seeking solutions of entrepreneurship education. Suggestions for further studies and limitations of the research were also identified.

Advances in the fields of neurobiology, cognitive neuroscience and behaviour genetics pose a significant philosophical and epistemological challenge to the models of mind and psychotherapeutic practice advocated by counselling psychology. Drawing on contemporary work within psychoanalysis, however, I argue that a marriage of neuroscientific and psychotherapeutic research is not only possible but necessary. This paper discusses current research in the fields of memory, mental state understanding and behavioural genetics and examines some of the inherent methodological and conceptual problems facing interdisciplinary research within counselling psychology. The paper concludes with a brief discussion about the ways in which counselling psychology may be well-placed to contribute to a psychotherapeutically-informed neuroscience.

AbstractCounselling pregnant smokers to quit is as difficult as it is essential. This article discusses a telephone counselling protocol designed to promote tobacco cessation among pregnant smokers. The protocol, validated in a large randomised, controlled trial, addresses three key elements of change for addictive behaviour — motivation, cognition and skill building — in ways tailored to pregnant smokers' unique needs. Details concerning scheduling, counsellor training and broader applicability are also presented.

The Guidance Teacher or counsellor is someone who is responsible for providing guidance and counselling in schools consciously towards the development of student's personalities and abilities both from physical and spiritual aspects so that students are able to live independently and fulfil their various developmental tasks as creatures of God in addition to individual beings and social, moral, religious, and cultural beings. Counselling is an effort to help individuals through a process of personal interaction between counsellors and counsellors so that counsellors are able to understand themselves and their environment, be able to make decisions, and determine goals based on the values they believe in so that counsellor feels happy and effective in his behaviour. Guidance Counselling is in a key position in an educational institution, namely a school institution, as a support for the progress or retreat of the quality of education. The role of guidance and counselling in improving the quality of education is not only limited to academic guidance but also personal, social, intellectual, and value-giving guidance.

Анотація:

Diarrhoea is a health problem that is often experienced by infants and toddlers and in almost every country. One of the efforts to prevent diarrhoea was through counselling. Due to the pandemic situation, face-to-face counselling was not possible. This study aimed to assess the use of e-learning in increasing knowledge, attitudes, and behaviours to prevent diarrhoea. This research was an analytical observational study with the design of The One Group Pre-test Post-test Design. Samples were select used the purposive sampling technique. The sample size in this study was 54 students. The eLearning model used in this research was Google Class. The data were obtained by using google form then analyzed using McNemar Test. The results of the analysis showed that there were differences in knowledge (p-value = 0.000), attitudes (p-value = 0.031), and behaviour (p-value = 0.016) to prevent diarrhea before and after treatment. The utilization of online learning (e-learning) significantly affected increasing knowledge, attitudes, and behaviour in preventing diarrhea. In the future, e-learning can be an alternative to prevent diarrhea during a pandemic.

This paper presents a case study of a 22-year-old female client who came for counselling sessions for the purpose of overcoming her pedaphobia. Symptoms, such as, dizziness, nausea, arousal, sweating palm and body shaking were noticed to be visible not only by the presence of a real child, but also by pictures, stories and imaginations of infants. Systematic desensitization technique, a form of Exposure Therapy, was applied to treat the client. It involved relaxation and breathing techniques, and supported by the application of live modelling guided participation. Along with the interventions, Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy techniques were also applied, such as, thought recording, irrational thoughts identification and disputation, Rational Emotive Imagery (REI), coping self-statement, and forceful self-statement. By the end of the therapy, the client reported to have experienced a decline in the occurrences of symptoms and demonstrated the ability to overcome her phobia.Keywords: phobia; pedaphobia; systematic desensitization; counselling intervention; rational emotive behaviour therapy

Background and Purpose: Truancy is one of the top discipline problems in Malaysia and the national prevalence of truancy indicates a significant number of students are truant. Counselling at school aims at helping schoolchildren in personality development and discipline. This qualitative study aims to research the experiences of counselling on schoolchildren who were reported for truancy. Methodology: The research participants involved ten schoolchildren who had played truant and were required to participate in counselling sessions. Data were gathered through semi-structured interviews, non-participant observations, and diary entries on two occasions for each participant. The data were analysed using thematic analysis to identify themes related to the participants’ experiences. Findings: The findings showed that the reasons for truancy among the school children involve self and relationship with others. After being in sessions with school counsellors, the children reported being more responsible, which included behavioural, emotional and goal-based changes. The relationship with the school counsellor allowed them to experience belongingness, which supported them in choosing positive behaviour, emotions and goals, which is related to having a sense of responsibility. Contributions: This paper argues that engaging in counselling with a school counsellor helped the schoolchildren to make responsible decisions about their behaviour, emotions and goals. The most important factor is the “relearning experience” in promoting responsibility among schoolchildren. Keywords: Qualitative research, truancy, belongingness, school counselling, responsibility. This paper describes an Adventure Based Counselling (ABC) program that aimed to improve sixth grade student behaviour in the classroom. In particular, this paper focuses on the ABC debriefing strategy, as summarised in the “What?” “So What?” and “Now What?” format. This debriefing process was employed with both students and ABC program facilitators. While there is extensive literature concerned with the application of the ABC debrief with the target group, an ABC debrief with the facilitators of the program is lacking in the applied literature. The strategies and sample questions employed in the ABC format, as applied to both groups, are described in detail. The procedure was highly effective for both behavioural intervention with students and for maximising learning of the ABC facilitators.

The paper considers the influence of client characteristics and gambling behaviour as well as treatment modality on the resolution of gambling behaviour for 591 clients who sought help from the publicly-funded BreakEven counselling services in the state of Victoria between 1 July 1996 and 30 June 1997. Statistical data about clients and their consultations was collected in the form of a Minimum Data Set. On their own, client demographics accounting for 12% of the variance were identified as discriminating between problem gamblers who achieved some resolution of their gambling behaviour and those whose behaviour did not change. Variables associated with gambling behaviour accounted for 10% of variance and treatment variables for 12% of variance in treatment outcomes. Collectively, the three types of data could explain 26% of the variance in problem resolution. Importantly, these findings demonstrate that the resolution of problematic gambling behaviour is affected by a complex interplay of client characteristics, their gambling behaviour and the treatment they receive. It is argued that the evaluation of treatment programs for problem gambling, and potentially all counselling programs in the primary health arena, needs to include measures from each of these domains.

With high numbers of Chinese international tertiary students worldwide, it is important that institutions understand how best to establish environments that support positive mental health in this student group. This study used a mixed methods approach via an online survey to explore levels of psychological distress, help-seeking preferences, and engagement with counselling among Chinese international students at a New Zealand university. Findings support existing literature showing that Chinese international tertiary students experience high levels of distress and under-utilise counselling and other campus services, while the relationship between students and family is an important consideration to assist in mitigating psychological distress. Culturally appropriate interventions are needed to improve the wellbeing, and aid the integration, of Chinese students to their host country and educational environment.

Анотація:

The effects of losing a loved one through death on the physical and mental health of both adults and children are well documented in the literature. Children are likely to be referred to mental health professionals for various behaviour and emotional problems which may have a causative link with a bereavement within the family. In this paper I discuss the need for preventive work and, propose a role for child psychiatric services in preventive work for bereaved families with surviving children and adolescents. A ten-point plan is suggested as a guideline.
