Binderless particleboards (BP) were produced from three different species of Sulawesi bamboos. Parring bamboo (Gigantochloa ater) was extracted from Tanralili Maros while betung bamboo (Dendrocalamus asper) and tallang bamboo (Schizostacyum barcahycladum) were extracted from Batu Papan Makale Tana Toraja. The bark and nodes were removed, followed by cutting into chips; air drying, and finally converting into fine particles. Several bamboo species as betung (Dendrocalamus asper), andong (Gigantochloa pseudoarundinacea (Steudel) Widjaja), hitam (G. atroviolacea), tali (G. apus), kuning (Bambusa vulgaris var. striata), and ampel bamboo (B. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of torrefaction temperature on the physical and mechanical properties of betung bamboo (Dendrocalamus asper) pellets. Torrefaction was conducted in an electric furnace at 200°C, 240°C, and 280°C for 50 minutes. The physical properties evaluated included color change, density, moisture content, water resistance, and water adsorption. The mechanical properties were also investigated by compressive strength test. The aim of this research is to determine water content of three types of bamboo (betung bamboo (Dindrocalamos asper), kuning bamboo (Bambusa vulgaris Schard), and suluk bamboo (Gigantochloa levis Merr)) and to determine the differences based on their position in bamboo.
