A study was conducted in 2008-09 to investigate the influence of Indole Butyric Acid (IBA) at 0, 1000, 1500 and 2000ppm concentrations on rooting potential in hardwood cuttings of four varieties of bougainvillea, i.e., Louise Wathen, Thimma, Mrs. Butt and Shubhra. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Block Design with sixteen treatments and four replications. Results indicated that both IBA concentration and variety had significant effect on sprouting, rooting, callusing and establishment of cuttings. An efficient protocol for callus induction of Withania somnifera through in vitro culture of shoot apex and leaf explant was standardized. Plant formation from somatic embryos in response to BAP, NAA, and sucrose was studied in sweetpotato [Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam.]. A maximum of 15% embryos at the torpedo stage of development formed plants of agar-solidified basal medium containing 3% sucrose and no growth regulators. The percentage of embryos forming shoots was increased to 53% by 4 μm BAP, but BAP reduced whole plant formation and promoted callusing at the root axis end of embryos.
