O experimento foi conduzido com o objetivo de avaliar o desempenho em confinamento, dos 210 aos 408 dias de idade, de bezerros previamente desmamados aos 72 (T72) ou 210 (T210) dias. Foram utilizados 36 machos não castrados da raça Braford (5/8 Hereford 3/8 Nelore). O peso médio no início do experimento foi de 209 kg (T72) e 192 kg (T210). O confinamento compreendeu 30 dias de adaptação dos animais e 168 dias de avaliação, sendo dividido em quatro períodos de 42 dias. A relação volumoso:concentrado foi de 60:40 para o 1º e 2º períodos, 50:50 para o 3º período e 45:55 para o 4º período. Não houve interação entre idade de desmame e período de avaliação em confinamento para os parâmetros relativos aos consumos médios por animal de matéria seca (CMS) e de energia digestível (CED), expressos em kg/dia e Mcal/dia (CMSD e CEDD), por 100 kg de peso vivo (CMSP e CEDP) e por unidade de tamanho metabólico (CMSM e CEDM), ao ganho de peso médio diário (GMD), à conversão alimentar (CA) e eficiência energética (EE). Animais desmamados aos 210 dias apresentaram maiores CMSP (2,25 contra 2,07% PV) e CEDP (7,05 contra 6,48% PV) em relação aos animais desmamados ao 72 dias de idade. Não houve diferença no CMSD (6,75 contra 6,98 kg/dia), no GMD (1,066 contra 1,074 kg/dia), na eficiência de conversão da matéria seca (6,42 contra 6,72 kg de MS/kg ganho de PV) e da energia digestível consumida (20,18 contra 21,13 Mcal/kg ganho de PV) em ganho de peso vivo para os animais desmamados aos 72 ou 210 dias de idade, respectivamente. Os pesos de abate e de carcaça quente foram similares entre as duas idades, sendo, respectivamente, de 424 e 232 kg para os animais do T72 e de 406 e 221 kg para dos T210. Os resultados mostram que animais desmamados aos 72 dias de idade apresentaram desempenho durante a terminação, pesos de abate e de carcaça similares aos desmamados aos 210 dias.

O experimento teve como objetivo estudar os parâmetros relativos ao desempenho de bezerros de corte em confinamento, alimentados com três dietas, contendo diferentes fontes de volumoso: SPSI - silagem de capim papuã (Brachiaria plantaginea) sem inoculante bacteriano, SPCI - silagem de capim papuã com inoculante bacteriano e SMMS - mistura de silagem de milho (Zea mays) e silagem de sorgo (Sorghum bicolor). Foram utilizados 36 bezerros com média de peso vivo inicial de 159kg e média de idade de sete meses. O confinamento compreendeu 105 dias de avaliação, sendo divididos em cinco períodos de 21 dias. A relação volumoso:concentrado foi de 65:35 para todas as dietas testadas. O uso de inoculante bacteriano, na silagem de papuã, não afetou (P>0,05) as variáveis estudadas. Não houve interação (P>0,05) entre fonte de volumoso e período de avaliação para os consumos médios de matéria seca (CMS) e de energia digestível (CED), expressos em kg dia-1 e Mcal dia-1 (CMSD e CEDD), por 100kg de peso vivo (PV) (CMSP e CEDP) e por unidade de tamanho metabólico (CMSM e CEDM), ganho de peso médio diário (GMD), conversão alimentar (CA) e eficiência energética (EE). A análise de contraste entre as dietas que incluíam silagem de capim papuã (SPSI + SPCI) contra a que incluía a mistura de silagem de milho e sorgo (SMMS) revelou que os animais alimentados com silagem de capim papuã apresentaram menor CMSD (4,99 contra 5,56kg dia-1) sem diferença para o CMSP e CMSM, menor GMD (0,800 contra 1,061kg dia-1) e pior CA (6,26 contra 5,30) em relação à mistura de silagens de milho e sorgo.

In Canada, caffeinated energy drinks (CEDs) currently sold under Temporary Marketing Authorizations must meet strict eligibility criteria. These criteria, which include compositional and labelling requirements, were developed based on the outcome of a health risk assessment conducted by Health Canada (HC) in 2013. HC updated its assessment by reviewing new information with the focus on potential cardiovascular effects associated with the consumption of CEDs available for sale in Canada. Due to limited data on CED consumption among Canadians to derive accurate exposure information, the composition of a typical CED was characterized to assess the potential effects of single ingredients and synergistic interactions between ingredients on the cardiovascular system. Surveillance data on potential adverse effects related to CED consumption was also analyzed. After extensive review, HC’s updated assessment confirms the current risk management approach for CEDs is health protective for Canadian consumers, including the potential for cardiovascular effects. The available evidence supports that moderate consumption (up to 500 mL per day) of a typical CED authorized for sale in Canada is safe for the general population of healthy adults and adolescents. It also re-confirms that vulnerable sub-populations (i.e., children, pregnant and/or breastfeeding women, and caffeine-sensitive individuals) should not consume CEDs. Novelty: Consumption up to 500 mL per day of a typical CED is not associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular effects. Children, pregnant and/or breastfeeding women, and caffeine-sensitive individuals should not consume CEDs.

Este experimento teve por objetivo avaliar a utilização do farelo de soja centrifugado (FSC) como substituto ao farelo de soja (FS) na fração concentrada da dieta de bezerros de corte em confinamento, sendo testados os seguintes tratamentos: T1 - 100% de FS; T2 - 66% de FS + 34% de FSC; T3 - 34% de FS + 66% de FSC; e T4 - 100% de FSC. Foram utilizados 36 bezerros machos da raça Braford, com idade média de sete meses e peso vivo médio inicial de 202kg. O confinamento compreendeu 168 dias de avaliação, sendo dividido em quatro períodos de 42 dias cada. A relação volumoso:concentrado foi de 60:40 para o 1° e 2° períodos, de 50:50 para o 3° período e de 45:55 para o 4° período. Não houve interação (P>0,05) entre nível de substituição da fonte protéica e período de avaliação em confinamento para os parâmetros relativos aos consumos diários de matéria seca (CMS), proteína bruta (CPB) e energia digestível (CED), respectivamente, expressos em kg animal-1 (CMSD e CPBD) ou Mcal/animal (CEDD), por 100kg de peso vivo (CMSP, CPBP e CEDP) e por unidade de tamanho metabólico (CMSM, CPBM e CEDM), ao ganho de peso médio diário (GMD) e a eficiência da transformação da matéria seca consumida (CA) e da proteína bruta consumida (EPB) em ganho de peso. A utilização de farelo de soja centrifugado como fonte protéica em substituição parcial ou integral ao farelo de soja na fração concentrada da dieta alimentar de bezerros de corte, visando à produção do superprecoce, não comprometeu (P>0,05) o consumo de alimentos, o ganho de peso médio diário e a eficiência da transformação da matéria seca consumida e da proteína bruta consumida em ganho de peso.

Coeliac disease (CeD) is an immune-mediated inflammatory enteropathy triggered by the ingestion of gluten in genetically susceptible individuals. Gastrointestinal (GI) hormone response related to appetite and glucose metabolism is still under-investigated in patients with CeD. This study aimed at shedding light on the appetite sensations, glycaemia and hormone response induced by a complex meal in patients with coeliac disease. Twenty-two women with CeD, nine at the diagnosis (CeDD) and thirteen under a gluten-free diet (CeDGF), and ten healthy subjects (HS) were enrolled in a single day intervention study. All subjects consumed a test meal, recorded their appetite sensations, and blood was collected over three hours after meal consumption. The study found a lower decrease in hunger in CeDD compared to CeDGF and HS after meal intake. Data showed no difference of fullness and satiety between the groups. CeDD had lower insulin and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) than CeDGF and HS. Both CeDD and CeDGF experienced a lower post-prandial response of glucose than HS. Data suggested that patients with CeD have an impaired glucose absorption after more than 12 months of gluten-free diet. Postprandial GIP may play a significant role in appetite cues and insulin response to a complex meal.

Background: For non-drug technologies, there is often residual uncertainty following systematic review, mainly due to inadequate evidence of efficacy. The unwillingness to make decisions in the presence of uncertainty may lead to passive diffusion and intuitive decision making with or without public pressure. This may affect health system sustainability. There is increasing interest in post-market evaluation through processes that include coverage with evidence development (CED) to address residual uncertainty regarding effectiveness and cost-effectiveness. Global experience of CED has been slow to develop despite their potential contribution to decision making.Methods: Ontario's field evaluation program to better inform decision making represents a collaboration between physicians, policy decision makers and academic centers. We report results of the first ten CEDs from this program to assess whether they achieved their objective of influencing policy by addressing residual uncertainty following systematic review.Results: Since 2003, nineteen field evaluation studies to resolve residual uncertainty following systematic review have been completed, ten of which met the criteria of CED and are the focus of this report. There was more than one patient subgroup or intervention in three of the CEDs. This provided the basis for evaluating thirteen outcomes. In each case, the CED addressed the uncertainty and led to a decision based on the systematic review and CED result. The CEDs led to adoption of the technology in six instances, modified adoption in three instances and withdrawal in four instances.Conclusions: CED makes an important contribution to translating evidence to decision making. Methodologies are needed to increase the scope and reduce timelines for CEDs, such as the use of linked comprehensive and robust data sets and collaborative studies with other jurisdictions. CED before making long-term funding decisions, especially where there is uncertainty of effectiveness, safety or cost-effectiveness, should be increasingly funded by health systems.

County Extension Directors (CEDs) act as the administrative leader of the county Extension office and implement their own educational program. County Extension agents act as the leader of their program area and corresponding community audience. Because of the autonomous nature of the agents’ work, it is imperative that Extension agents trust their CEDs. The Trust in Leaders Scale (TLS) was created to measure person-based trust between leaders and followers through four constructs: competence, integrity, benevolence, and predictability. A census study was conducted by distributing the TLS to the UF/IFAS Extension agents that report to a CED. Results indicated perceived moderate levels of trust between agents and CEDs, and demographic variables did not impact whether agents trusted their CED. UF/IFAS Extension should seek to understand the impact of moderate trust between county Extension agents and their CED, as research show low trust typically leads to lower job satisfaction and higher employee turnover.

The widespread adoption of conducted energy devices (CEDs) across American police departments over the last decade has been mired in public controversy. It is generally accepted, from a police perspective, that CEDs are safer for officers who can use the weapon at a greater distance, avoiding much of the harm associated with close physical struggles with citizens. Research has generally supported the notion that aggregate levels of officer injuries are reduced following the implementation of CEDs. Unfortunately, multivariate examinations that, in varying degrees, have attempted to compare CED applications to other forms of force (while controlling for rival causal factors) have yet to produce the same consistent results as the pre- and post-CED adoption studies. The current research adds to recent multivariate inquiries by using data collected as part of a national multiagency use of force project to assess the independent effect of CEDs on officer injuries. Based on a series of multivariate models, our results generally find evidence of increased benefits (i.e., lower probability of officer injury) of CEDs when used by themselves. By contrast, in some instances when CEDs were used in combination with other forms of force, there was an increased probability of officer injury. The implications of these findings for police researchers and practitioners are considered.

ABSTRACTBackground: This study sought to examine the trends in the prescribing of subsidized and unsubsidized cognition enhancing drugs (CEDs) in Australia over five years from 2002 to 2007. Subsidized cholinesterase inhibitor medication could be prescribed to people with mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease (AD) once a specialist physician had confirmed this diagnosis. Memantine was available for use in moderately severe AD but not subsidized.Methods: We analyzed the Medicare Australia and Drug Utilisation Sub-Committee databases for CED prescription data, 2002–2007, by gender, age and prescriber class. Aggregated prescription data for each medication were converted to defined daily doses (DDD) per 1000 persons per day using national census data.Results: There were 1,583,667 CED prescriptions dispensed during the study period. CED use increased 58% from 0.91 to 1.56 DDD/1000 persons/day between 2002 and 2007. Peak use was in those aged 85–89 years. Age-adjusted utilization was slightly higher in females than males. Donepezil was the most widely used CED (66%), followed by galantamine (27%) then memantine (4%). General practitioners prescribed the majority of CEDs. Geriatricians exhibited a greater preference for galantamine than other prescribers. CED dispensing peaked towards the end of each calendar year, reflecting stockpiling by patients under the influence of a federal safety net subsidy.Conclusions: Despite subsidized access to CEDs in Australia, only a minority of people with AD was prescribed these drugs during the period of the study. It is likely that the combination of complex prescribing rules and negative perceptions about efficacy or cost-effectiveness might have contributed to these findings.

Abstract The current study examined the efficacy of health warnings on caffeinated energy drinks (CEDs). Participants aged 12–24 years (n = 2040) completed an online survey where they were asked to recall any existing warning statements on CED products and were randomized to one of 29 experimental warning conditions. Regression models were fitted to examine differences between conditions in product appeal, perceived safety and message recall. Overall, fewer than 30% of participants were able to accurately describe an existing CED product warning. Experimental findings indicated that exposure to CEDs with warning labels resulted in greater recall. Warnings on the back of CED cans featuring large font, a border, and a ‘caution’ heading resulted in significantly greater recall (P < 0.05 for all). Front-of-package ‘High source of caffeine’ labels resulted in greater recall than a quantitative description (P < 0.001); caffeine labels generally elicited lower product appeal (P < 0.001) and perceived safety (P = 0.002) ratings vs. no caffeine labels, and the qualitative caffeine statement elicited lower perceived safety ratings than the quantitative statement (P = 0.02). Existing warning statements in Canada have low levels of awareness. Warnings on CEDs could be enhanced to increase the salience of messages, with greater impact from clear, descriptive, front-of-package ‘High source of caffeine’ labels.

The high incidence of CED in pregnant women at Puskesmas Turi is caused by maternal parity which has an impact on the incidence of prolonged labor and delivery bleeding. The purpose of the study was to analyze the factors of parity, pregnancy spacing, and work status on the incidence of CED in pregnant women in Turi Health Center. The study uses a quantitative approach with cross sectional study design. The total population of 77 pregnant women and taken as many as 64 people with simple random sampling technique. Analysis using chi square and phi. The results showed that pregnant women with multipara parity were at risk of experiencing CED from the statistical test results, namely p-value of 0.012, α = 0.05, p<α, then H1 was accepted and H0 was rejected. This showed the influence between Parity and the incidence of CED in pregnant women at the Turi Health Center. Pregnant women with a pregnancy interval <lt;2 years until 10 years are at risk of experiencing CED from the statistical test results, the p-value of 0.044, α = 0.05, p <α, then H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected, this shows the influence between Distance between Pregnancy and CED events for pregnant women in Turi Health Center. In addition, pregnant women who do not work are at risk of experiencing CEDs from the statistical test results, namely p-value of 0.025, α = 0.05, p <α, then H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected, this shows the influence between occupational status and the incidence of CEDs in the mother pregnant at Turi Health Center. The conclusion of this research is the need for health promotion efforts on the importance of planning the number of children and how to regulate the distance of pregnancy and efforts to increase income for mothers who do not work.

The existing corporate environmental disclosure (CED) research focuses primarily on large companies operating in a single jurisdiction, leaving a gap of knowledge regarding the subsidiary operations of multinational corporations. In this study, consolidated narrative interrogation (CONI) is used to quantify CEDs presented in annual and stand-alone sustainability reports published over a 15-year span between 2002 and 2016 by agrochemical companies operating in India. Results show that the diversity, the quantity, and the quality of CED vary significantly, but generally each of them has been improving over time—most notably following the revisions to the Companies Act in 2013. The study finds that the subsidiaries of multinational agrochemical corporations implemented CED practices more strongly associated with those of domestic companies than those found in the reports produced by their parent companies. The CED of both subsidiary and domestic companies appears to reflect concerns of local legitimacy.

The primary aim of a hospital Clinical Engineering Department (CED) is to ensure a safe and cost-effective operation of the medical devices. In order to achieve this goal, it needs to implement and establish a comprehensive biomedical technology management program, which is a complex and multidimensional task. This work presents a medical devices management software system to assist the CED in healthcare, and it appears, as a result, of an effort to re-engineer and rebuild such an old, successful management system. The findings of this re-engineering attempt are presented. The goal was the incorporation of the new trends in clinical engineering and medical devices management and the exploitation of the new capabilities provided by the modern software tools and platforms. The system is expected to respond to the changing healthcare environment demands, the increased efforts required, and the respective broader role that CEDs have to play.

ABSTRACT Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) is one of the many nutritional problems occurring in pregnant women. The causes of CED are related to food availability and food consumption vulnerability that is affected by poverty, low education, and customs or beliefs including food taboos. The purpose of this study is to describe the types of food taboos, symbolic meaning tabooed by pregnant women, and the incidence of CEDs in pregnant women in Anak Dalam tribe in Bungku Village, Bajubang District, Batanghari Regency, Jambi. The study design was a cross-sectional study and carried out in January-July 2019. Respondents in this study were 31 pregnant women. Data collected include mid upper arm circumference (MUAC), respondent characteristics, and food culture of pregnant women. Data analysis was performed descriptively. The results showed that various foods were regarded as the taboo foods including carbohydrate, protein and vitamin sources The symbolic meaning of each group is hot food that causes miscarriage, the membranes become thick and blood can clot, miscarriages, and infants become fertile. The measurement results show that two-thirds of respondents are at risk of CED. Education is needed to straighten out the taboo food misperception of pregnant women. Penyebab KEK terkait dengan ketersediaan makanan dan kerawanan konsumsi makanan yang dipengaruhi oleh kemiskinan, rendahnya pendidikan, dan adat atau kepercayaan termasuk tabu makanan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan jenis tabu makanan, makna simbolis yang ditabukan ibu hamil, dan kejadian KEK pada ibu hamil di Desa Bungku, Kecamatan Bajubang, Kabupaten Batanghari, Jambi. Desain penelitian crossectional study dan dilaksanakan pada bulan Januari-Juli 2019. Responden pada penelitian ini adalah 31 orang ibu hamil. Data yang dikumpulkan pada penelitian ini meliputi lingkar lengan atas (LILA), karakteristik responden, dan budaya makanan ibu hamil. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan wawancara dan pengukuran. Analisis data dilakukan secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa bahan makanan yang ditabukan meliputi makanan sebagai sumber karbohidrat, protein dan vitamin. Makna simbolis dari masing-masing kelompok berturut-turut adalah makanan panas yang menyebabkan keguguran, ketuban menjadi tebal dan darah mudah membeku, keguguran, dan bayi menjadi subur. Hasil pengukuran menunjukkan bahwa dua pertiga responden berisiko KEK. Perlu edukasi untuk meluruskan mispersepsi tabu makanan terhadap ibu hamil. Abstract Malnutrition has become one of the serious problems among children and adolescents internationally, especially in developing countries. India, a developing country covers 40% of undernourished children of the world. In India, tribal population is among the most deprived and undernourished people. The present study shows the prevalence of undernutrition among Kolam tribal children and adolescents by comparing different Body Mass Index (BMI) cut off points. Age and sex specific nutritional status of studied population shows 15.01% boys and 18.35% girls are in Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) III category, 16.22% boys and 19.32% girls are in CEDII, 31.71% boys and 2.72% girls are in CEDI only 0.96% boys and 1.69% girls are in overweight category respectively. Undernutrition is not limited to young children, even adults are also severely underweight in developing countries. Health and nutrition of today’s adolescent girls may have great impact on the quality of next generation. Proper nutritional programs and health policies are needed to be implemented among tribals to solve the problem of undernutrition and similar studies should be planned in other underprivileged sections worldwide.

Mục tiêu: Đánh giá tình trạng dinh dưỡng (TTDD) và thói quen ăn uống, sinh hoạt của lưuhọc sinh Lào trường Đai học Tây Bắc năm 2020, từ đó đưa ra khuyến nghị dinh dưỡng phùhợp cho lưu học sinh. Phương pháp: Nghiên cứu mô tả có phân tích qua một cuộc điều tra cắtngang trên 298 lưu học sinh Lào trường Đại học Tây Bắc về các chỉ số nhân trắc dinh dưỡngvà một số thói quen ăn uống, sinh hoạt. Kết quả: Chiều cao trung bình của nam là 165,3 ± 6,6cm, của nữ là 154,6 ± 5,6 cm; cân nặng trung bình của nam là 61,6 ± 8,3 kg, của nữ là 51,5 ±7,5 kg. Tỉ trọng mỡ trung bình của nam là 17,2 ± 6,9, của nữ là 28,7 ± 7,6. Tỷ lệ lưu học sinhthiếu năng lượng trường diễn (chronic enerry deficiency- CED) là 8,1%, trong đó tỷ lệ CEDở lưu học sinh nữ cao hơn so với nam (14,1% và 3,1%). Tỷ lệ lưu học sinh thừa cân - béo phì(TC-BP) chung là 9,8% trong đó tỷ lệ thừa cân là 8,1%, tỷ lệ béo phì là 1,7%. Tần suất sử dụngcác đồ ăn chiên rán >4 lần/tuần chiếm 13,1%, 44% lưu học sinh sử dụng các đồ uống có cồn từ1-2 lần/tuần, 2% lưu học sinh sử dụng từ 3-4 lần/ tuần, có 90,9% đối tượng nghiên cứu khônghút thuốc lá, tỷ lệ lưu học sinh có tham gia các hoạt động thể thao chiếm 84,2%. Kết luận:Các lưu học sinh Lào trong nghiên cứu có tỉ lệ CED là 8,1 % và TC-BP là 9,8%.

The classic form of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (cEDS) is an inherited connective tissue disorder, where mutations in type V collagen-encoding genes result in abnormal collagen fibrils. Thus the cEDS patients have pathological connective tissue morphology and low stiffness, but the rate of connective tissue protein turnover is unknown. We investigated whether cEDS affected the protein synthesis rate in skin and tendon, and whether this could be stimulated in tendon tissue with insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I). Five patients with cEDS and 10 healthy, matched controls (CTRL) were included. One patellar tendon of each participant was injected with 0.1 ml IGF-I (Increlex, Ipsen, 10 mg/ml) and the contralateral tendon with 0.1 ml isotonic saline as control. The injections were performed at both 24 and 6 h prior to tissue sampling. The fractional synthesis rate (FSR) of proteins in skin and tendon was measured with the stable isotope technique using a flood-primed continuous infusion over 6 h. After the infusion one skin biopsy and two tendon biopsies (one from each patellar tendon) were obtained. We found similar baseline FSR values in skin and tendon in the cEDS patients and controls [skin: 0.005 ± 0.002 (cEDS) and 0.007 ± 0.002 (CTRL); tendon: 0.008 ± 0.001 (cEDS) and 0.009 ± 0.002 (CTRL) %/h, mean ± SE]. IGF-I injections significantly increased FSR values in cEDS patients but not in controls (delta values: cEDS 0.007 ± 0.002, CTRL 0.001 ± 0.001%/h). In conclusion, baseline protein synthesis rates in connective tissue appeared normal in cEDS patients, and the patients responded with an increased tendon protein synthesis rate to IGF-I injections.

We develop a new approach that resolves cloud area distributions of single-layer shallow cumuli from ground-based observations. Our simple and computationally inexpensive approach uses images obtained from a Total Sky Imager (TSI) and complementary information on cloud base height provided by lidar measurements to estimate cloud equivalent diameter (CED) over a wide range of cloud sizes (about 0.01–3.5 km) with high temporal resolution (30 s). We illustrate the feasibility of our approach by comparing the estimated CEDs with those derived from collocated and coincident high-resolution (0.03 km) Landsat cloud masks with different spatial and temporal patterns of cloud cover collected over the Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) Southern Great Plains (SGP) site. We demonstrate that (1) good (~7%) agreement between TSI and Landsat characteristic cloud size can be obtained for clouds that fall within the region of the sky observable by the TSI and (2) large clouds that extend beyond this region are responsible for noticeable (~16%) underestimation of the TSI characteristic cloud size. Our approach provides a previously unavailable dataset for process studies in the convective boundary layer and evaluation of shallow cumuli in cloud-resolving models.

County Extension directors (CEDs) are Extension agents who have both programmatic and administrative responsibilities. A critical role of Florida CEDs is to coach and mentor new Extension agents in their county office. Most literature surrounding the onboarding process of new Extension hires focuses on Extension agents within their first year on the job, with little attention on their subsequent years on the job. This study sought to understand the coaching and mentoring experiences of early career Extension agents (one to three years on the job) received from CEDs. Findings revealed eight major themes, including CED years of experience as an agent, lack of CED onboarding, and intentionality of meeting regularly. Overall, CEDs were substantially more optimistic about their early career agents’ coaching and mentoring experiences than the agents themselves, revealing a major difference in perception regarding the impact of this critical CED role. UF/IFAS Extension should provide more resources to create needed onboarding training for new CEDs and tools to help CEDs be more effective coaches and mentors for new and early career Extension agents.

Purpose: To evaluate the role of topical umbilical cord serum (TUCS) therapy in treating corneal epithelial defects (CEDs) after diabetic vitrectomy. Methods: In this double-masked, randomized clinical trial, we included 80 eyes of 80 patients who were candidates for vitrectomy due to proliferative diabetic retinopathy complications. In cases of corneal edema obscuring the fundus view during surgery, the corneal epithelium was removed using a 6-mm trephine and a blade no.15. The day after the surgery, patients were randomly divided into two groups: (1) the TUCS group that received 20% TUCS six times/day in addition to the conventional treatment of CED and (2) the control group, which was prescribed artificial tears as placebo in addition to the conventional treatment of CED. The rate of healing of CEDs was measured via two maximum linear dimensions perpendicular to each other at the start of therapy and on postoperative days 1–5, 7, and 12. Results: Of 80 eyes, 40 were assigned to each treatment group. The mean times to complete CED healing were 2.4 ± 0.7 and 3.8 ± 2.1 days in the TUCS and control groups, respectively (P < 0.001). Persistent CED occurred in two eyes in the control group but in no eyes in the TUCS group. Conclusion: TUCS therapy may be safe and effective in healing CEDs after vitrectomy in patients with diabetes.

We consider the problem of constructing a convex ear decomposition for a poset. The usual technique, introduced by Nyman and Swartz, starts with a $CL$-labeling and uses this to shell the 'ears' of the decomposition. We axiomatize the necessary conditions for this technique as a "$CL$-ced" or "$EL$-ced". We find an $EL$-ced of the $d$-divisible partition lattice, and a closely related convex ear decomposition of the coset lattice of a relatively complemented finite group. Along the way, we construct new $EL$-labelings of both lattices. The convex ear decompositions so constructed are formed by face lattices of hypercubes. We then proceed to show that if two posets $P_{1}$ and $P_{2}$ have convex ear decompositions ($CL$-ceds), then their products $P_{1}\times P_{2}$, $P_{1}\check{\times} P_{2}$, and $P_{1}\hat{\times} P_{2}$ also have convex ear decompositions ($CL$-ceds). An interesting special case is: if $P_{1}$ and $P_{2}$ have polytopal order complexes, then so do their products.

Abstract Background Healthcare workers faced unique challenges during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic which necessitated rapid adaptation. Clinical event debriefings (CEDs) are one tool that teams can use to reflect after events and identify opportunities for improving their performance and their processes. There are few reports of how teams have used CEDs in the COVID-19 pandemic. Our aim is to explore the issues discussed during COVID-19 CEDs and propose a framework model for qualitatively analyzing CEDs. Methods This was a descriptive, qualitative study of a hospital-wide CED program at a quaternary children’s hospital between March and July 2020. CEDs were in-person, team-led, voluntary, scripted sessions using the Debriefing in Suspected COVID-19 to Encourage Reflection and Team Learning (DISCOVER-TooL). Debriefing content was qualitatively analyzed using constant comparative coding with an integrated deductive and inductive approach. A novel conceptual framework was proposed for understanding how debriefing content can be employed at various levels in a health system for learning and improvement. Results Thirty-one debriefings were performed and analyzed. Debriefings had a median of 7 debriefing participants, lasted a median of 10 min, and were associated with multiple systems-based process improvements. Fourteen themes and 25 subthemes were identified and categorized into a novel Input-Mediator-Output-Input Debriefing (IMOID) model. The most common themes included communication, coordination, situational awareness, team member roles, and clinical standards. Conclusions Teams identified diverse issues in their debriefing discussions related to areas of high performance and opportunities for improvement in their care of COVID-19 patients. This model may help healthcare systems to understand how CED tools can be used to accelerate organizational learning to promote safety and improve outcomes in changing clinical environments.

The impact of caffeinated energy drinks (CED) on the cardiovascular (CV) response to exercise has not been well described. A systematic review and meta-analysis (MA) was conducted on the acute effects of CEDs on CV responses during dynamic, aerobic exercise in 296 healthy adult males (224) and females (72) in 21 randomized controlled trials. During exercise, there was an increase in heart rate (HR) (mean difference (MD), 2.86 bpm, 95% CI, 2.39-3.34 bpm, I2=0%, p<0.00001), and systolic blood pressure (SBP) (MD, 9.02 mmHg, 95% CI, 4.25-13.79 mmHg, I2= 0%, p=0.0002) with consumption of CEDs, compared to controls, but diastolic blood pressure was similar. Insufficient data was available to evaluate rate pressure product (HR X SBP) and exercise-induced arrhythmia. Though changes to HR during exercise were modest, the significant increase in exercise SBP highlights the importance of directly assessing CV effects of CEDs with exercise, especially in individuals prone to hypertension. Novelty Bullets: 1. Exercise SBP in healthy adults is significantly increased during exercise with the consumption of CEDs compared to control, despite limited data. 2. The direct assessment of CV effects of CEDs with exercise highlights the particular relevance to individuals prone to hypertension.

The relationship between a supervisor and his/her employee has a direct effect on the employee’s level of job satisfaction and decision to remain in the organization. Extension agent retention has been shown to increase when a positive relationship and supervisory support exist between an Extension agent and his/her supervisor. Herzberg’s Motivation-Hygiene Theory was used to examine relationships with and impacts of supervisor management on Extension agent job satisfaction. A census of Florida Extension agents were asked to describe their relationships with their County Extension Directors (CED). Significant positive relationships were found between agent job satisfaction and ratings of the hygiene factors of Effective Senior Management and Effective Supervisor. A significant positive relationship was also found between these two hygiene factors. A significant difference was found between effective senior management and the agents’ CEDs gender, with agents with male CEDs reporting higher average levels of satisfaction with Effective Senior Management than agents with female CEDs. Significant differences also existed between agents’ Effective Senior Management satisfaction and years of working relationship between agents and CEDs. Extension supervision and leadership training should be a focus of Extension administration as effective supervision and management have a positive impact on Extension agent job satisfaction.

County Extension Directors (CEDs) are Extension agents who serve their local clientele through educational programming, while also serving as liaisons between their state Extension system and their local government and elected officials. Responsibilities within this administrative role include handling and managing personnel issues, fiscal management and oversight, and communicating and maintaining relationships with elected officials. Researchers asked CEDs in Florida and Georgia with less than five years of experience the most important information for a new CED to know within the first month on the job. The constant comparative method of analysis was used to identify recurring themes from the open-ended question of an online-administered survey. Six primary themes emerged: (a) policies, procedures, and MOUs; (b) deadlines and reporting; (c) human resources, personnel management, and fiduciary responsibilities; (d) roles and responsibilities; (e) relationships with elected officials and administrators; and (f) identifying resources. Extension professional development staff should either create or modify existing training programs to include the most important information CEDs need to know within the first month on the job.

España– para la célebre «doctrina Parot». Sin embargo, pocos conocen la extraordinaria trascendencia socio-laboral que puede llegar a tener el TEDH (el CEDH fue ratificado por España en 1979). Se cree que su jurisprudencia es propia de un típico «constitucionalismo liberal», donde solo tienen cabida los «derechos civiles y políticos» de los ciudadanos (vida –art. 2 CEHD–, prohibición de torturas y vejaciones –art. 3–, libertad y seguridad –art. 5–, legalidad penal –art. 7–, propiedad, etc.).
