Анотація:
As the tool magazine and automatic tool changer (ATC) are the important function units to reserve and change tools for the machining center, the tool-changing rate affects their reliability life which directly influences the performance level of the machining center. However, the reliability of the tool magazine and ATC has not yet got a reasonable evaluation index. Directing at the features of the tool magazine and ATC system, the mean tool change numbers between failures evaluation index is proposed, which is used to calculate the mean time to repair and estimate the collected failure data of the chain-type tool magazine and ATC. It can be seen that the tool magazine with continuous tool-changing adopts the mean tool change numbers between failures as the reliability evaluation index.

By analyzing the structure features and tool changing process of a large-scale national Automatic Tool Changer (ATC) with a chain-type tool magazine, a chain-type tool magazine reliability test bench is designed with a new fault detection system, where a new failure data collecting method is applied for taking failure data statistics and reliability analysis. This set of fault detecting and reliability analyzing system not only provides a way for ATC to predict system faults, but also creates good conditions for further ATC reliability research.

The scheme design process for four–axis machining centers is proposed based on analysis of main kinematic chain, topological and tool changing motion characteristics of machine tool in this paper. All possible kinematic schemes of four-axis machining centers with tool change mechanisms up to eight links are generated. And the number of that is 74 with mechanisms of tree graph considered only. Further more, several schemes can be derived from each one of schemes with characteristics of tool change directions and types of tool magazine considered. The results of this work provide references for new multi-axis machining center’s development and layout design.

Анотація:
The stable operation of the chain magazine which is important functional parts of the machining centers affects the processing efficiency directly, requiring test bench and related experiments in progress for the chain magazine performance parameters. We design the hardware and software and complete PLC chain magazine test bench based on the control and experimental testing requirements in the analysis of specific institutions and chain magazine movement principle. PLC is the core of the test bench which can achieve the operation of the magazine and the control automatic tool changer. The PLC program according to the experimental requirements can control tool magazine and automatic tool changer different motion process for related test. PC can achieve magazine movement simulation, monitoring the process of the tool changing, as well as recording and analysis of test data. The Anti-interference cabinet of the test bench ensure the stable operation of control system. The tests proved that PLC-based test bench able to meets the test requirements and complete the default action for a series of related tests with simple control, stable operation and scalability.

Анотація:
In order to ensure processing quality and validate the accurary of macro program. VERICUT software was often used to achieve five-axis gantry milling machine automatic tool changer (ATC) of the whole process simulation.The results show that the validity of macro program is verified by NC simulation and the efficiency of NC simulation is improved. It provides a guide for the modeling and simulation of multi-axis CNC machine tools.

In the field of manufacturing processes it is observed that the trend is to produce more and more fast, efficiently parts with high complexity, which involves using a high number of tools in the machining process. One of the main solutions for high speed and efficient manufacturing is based on the full automation of the entire manufacturing process. The automatic changing of the tools involved in the manufacturing process is carried out by the automatic tool changing mechanism, thus the auxiliary non-productive time consumed with the tool change is highly minimized. In this paper we present a novel automatic tool changer which is both simple and compact, and any milling machining center provided with chain or disc tool magazine can be equipped with. Also by adopting the use of this tool changing mechanism other subassemblies of the tool changing system, such as the tool transfer mechanism and the waiting position, are substituted by this changing mechanism. The auxiliary movements needed to bring the tool from the magazine into the waiting position are overlapped with the machining time, so that the total time for exchanging the tool in the spindle with the tool from the magazine is minimized.

Double loop cutters arrangement can settle the contradiction between rotational inertia of the tool magazine and the dimension limitation of the cutter head effectively, and increase the store of tools. Disc type tool magazine with double loop cutters arrangement is designed and researched. The spring steel 65Mn is used to manufacture elastic cutter fixture as the holding device for its inner and outer loop tools. The dynamic deformation of elastic cutter fixture is discussed. The entire geometric movement process of elastic cutter fixture from being opened by the tool holder to accomplishing the whole action is analyzed. The effect and trend of inner stress caused by geometric deformation are studied. Furthermore, the force condition in each part of tool fixture can be calculated, thus predicting the motion stability and reliability of the elastic cutter fixture, and providing theory references for the design of elastic cutter fixture.

The purpose of this paper is to present a design methodology for the configuration synthesis of machining centers with automatic tool changer to meet the required topology and motion characteristics. According to the concept of coordinate system, graph theory, generalization, specialization, and motion synthesis, this design methodology is proposed and computerized, and the machining centers with automatic tool changer up to eight links are synthesized. As the result, for the machining centers with drum type tool magazine, the numbers of configurations of machining centers with 6, 7, and 8 links are 2, 13, and 20, respectively. Similarly, for the machining centers with linear type tool magazine, the numbers of configurations of machining centers with 5, 6, 7, and 8 links are 1, 5, 20, and 60, respectively. Furthermore, this work provides a systematic approach for synthesizing spatial open-type mechanisms with topology and motion requirements.

This article is of two parts: (a) the development of a protein reduced representation and its implementation in a Web server; and (b) the use of the reduced protein representation in the modeling of the binding site of a given ligand and the screening for the model in other protein 3D structures. Current methods of reduced protein 3D structure representation such as the Ca trace method not only lack essential molecular detail, but also ignore the chemical properties of the component amino acid side chains. This chapter describes a reduced protein 3D structure representation called “double-centroid reduced representation” and presents a visualization tool called the “DCRR Web Server” that graphically displays a protein 3D structure in DCRR along with non-covalent intra- and intermolecular hydrogen bonding and van der Waals interactions. In the DCRR model, each amino acid residue is represented as two points: the centroid of the backbone atoms and that of the side chain atoms; in the visualization Web server, they and the non-bonded interactions are color-coded for easy identification. The visualization tool in this chapter is implemented in MATLAB and is the first for a reduced protein representation as well as one that simultaneously displays non-covalent interactions in the molecule. The DCRR model reduces the atomicity of the protein structure by ~75% while capturing the essential chemical properties of the component amino acids. The second half of this chapter describes the application of this reduced representation to the modeling and screening of ligand binding sites using a data model termed the “tetrahedral motif.” This type of ligand binding site modeling and screening presents a novel type of pharmacophore modeling and screening, one that depends on a reduced protein representation.

Many organizations are adopting cloud services to reduce their computing cost and increase the flexibility of their IT infrastructure. As cloud services are moving to the mainstream to meet major computing needs, the issues of ownership and chain of custody of customer data are becoming primary responsibilities of providers. Therefore, security requirements are essential for all service models (while the degree of defensive measures may vary) along with satisfying industry standard compliances. The authors develop an insurance framework called MEGHNAD for estimating the security coverage based on the type of cloud service and the level of security assurance required. This security coverage estimator may be useful to cloud providers (offering Security as a Service), cloud adopters, and cloud insurers who want to incorporate or market cloud security insurance. This framework allows the user/operator to choose a cloud service (such as Saas, Paas, IaaS) and other pertinent information in order to determine the appropriate level of security insurance coverage. This chapter describes an extension to the MEGHNAD (version 2.0) framework by incorporating security-related compliances. The compliance for each sector requires specific protection for online data such as transparency, respect for context, security, focused collection, accountability, access, and accuracy. The MEGHNAD tool can also generate a SLA document that can be used for monitoring by a certified Third-Party Assessment Organization (3PAO).

The postprocessor is essential for machining with five-axis machine tools. This paper develops one universal postprocessor for table-tilting type of five-axis machine tools without rotational tool center point (RTCP) function. Firstly, positions of two rotary axes and the workpiece in the machine coordinate system (MCS) are introduced into the kinematic chain of the five-axis machine tools. The uniform product of exponential (POE) formula of the tool relative to the workpiece is established to obtain the universal forward kinematics. On this basis, the postprocessor of table-tilting type of five-axis machine tools is developed. The calculation of rotation angles of rotation axes is proposed in details, including the calculation of double solutions, the determination of rotation angles of C-axis and the selection principle of the shortest path of rotation angles. Movements of linear axes are calculated with rotation angles of rotary axes. The generated movements of all axes are actual positions of all axes relative to their zero positions, which can be used for machining directly. The postprocessor does not rely on RTCP function with positions of rotary axes and the workpiece in MCS. Finally, cutting test in VERICUT and real cutting experiments on SmartCNC500_DRTD five-axis machine tool are carried out to verify the effectiveness of the proposed postprocessor.

Abstract Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) have a great potential for geological exploration optimization at all stages. This study considers UAV implementation at different exploration stage. Integrated approach using unmanned aerial systems shows great effectiveness based on the completed surveys. Low-depth electrical exploration using the shallow electrical exploration method is one of the possible UAVs technologies with great potential. In this study there are several cases describing main field data acquisition, models and cross-sections processing. Unmanned aerial systems are applicable at all stages of the oil and gas value chain and are already an integral part of oil&gas production process. Now there are more than 70 unmanned aerial systems application scenarios. The main advantages of drones are that the use of this operational data collection tool allows: – to reduce the duration of collecting geospatial data by 70%, and the cost by 3 times; – make the best decisions quickly; – to realize additional potential for increasing efficiency (application at all stages of the production chain) – increase the production processes safety level The most promising and actively developing areas of technology application are: Geophysical surveys at different stages of geological exploration. Drones have great potential for application in non-seismic exploration methods in the early stages of geological exploration. In addition, UAV surveys are suitable for planning geological exploration and working out the conceptual arrangement of the terrain. The presence of an accurate digital elevation model at the start of work of the project team makes it possible to remove a number of uncertainties and questions about conducting field work on seismic exploration, the placement of infrastructure and corridor communications. Objective control of the capital construction progress. Another important area of drones application is aerial photography at all stages of capital construction. With the help of UAVs, it is possible to control such parameters as the status and quality of construction and installation works, equipment of contractors, compliance with safety and environmental standards, and others. To do this, the unmanned vehicle flies around the object with a given regularity, filming it from different angles. After aerial photography, special software stitches the results into photogrammetric products (digital terrain model, orthophotomaps, 3D models) with an accuracy of 4–6 centimeters. On the constructed models, you can calculate the dynamics by one or another parameter. Operational fieldwork and intrastructure monitoring. At the same time, one of the key goals of technology application is the creation of a network of autonomous stations with drones at all assets for remote control of the company's production processes. The first step in this direction was the joint pilot testing of an automated take-off and landing station with an unmanned aerial vehicle of a multi-rotor type. The use of the station will reduce the time and cost of collecting data on capital construction and infrastructure. Project teams will be able to react faster to changes. An automated take-off and landing station allows the use of unmanned aerial vehicles without human intervention. The drone can independently take off, perform the necessary operations, land and recharge. Thus, flight operations and data collection can be performed remotely without the constant presence of a specialist on site.

Structure equations of mechanisms are well-known to give rise to algebraic constraint manifolds that describe the space of poses available to a certain link (usually, end-effector or coupler) of open chains or mechanisms. In this paper, by using planar quaternion representation for planar displacements, we obtain constraint manifold of such manipulators and show that the task of dimensional synthesis of a planar parallel manipulator (PPM) is reduced to simple geometric manipulation of the manifold in the Image Space. Earlier, this approach has been shown to work for planar 6R closed chain mechanisms as well as for RRR- and RPR-type leg topologies of a PPM. Here, we complete the extension to other five leg topologies and provide a developer version software tool for dimensional synthesis of a PPM.

Hardness and modulus of a polymer composite is known to depend on its structure, molecular weight, number of segments between entanglements and additives (filler). Nano-indentation is used increasingly as a powerful tool to determine hardness and visco-elastic modulus of polymer surfaces linear, cross-linked or composites. Hysitron Nanoindenter was used in our investigation of contact deformation of surfaces of filled polycarbonates supported on aluminum substrate. Bar coatings of polymer films were made from solution and dried all at 110C for half an hour. The results show that filled polycarbonate gives higher hardness than unfilled polycarbonate, which can give significantly different temperature dependence depending on molecular weight of the polycarbonate and structure of the filler. Depending on the type of filler and its concentration, the polycarbonate composite exhibits brittle-ductile transition at different strains. This behavior is analyzed in terms of chain mobility and free volume in the composite.

The widespread adoption of blade integrated disks (blisks) made of titanium demands tailored re-generation processes to increase sustainability and economic efficiency. High standards regarding geometrical accuracy and functional properties as well as the unique characteristics of each type of damage complicate the repair. Thus, flexible and well-designed processes are necessary. Typically, material deposit is followed by a milling or grinding process to restore the original shape. Here, not only the individual repair processes have to be controlled, but also their interaction. For example, depending on the resulting microstructure of the welded seam, the re-contouring process needs to be adapted to minimize tool wear as well as shape deviations of the complex blade geometries. In this paper, the process chain for a patch repair is examined, consisting of a TIG welding process followed by 5-axis ball nose end milling. Conventional TIG as well as a modified TIG process producing a finer grain structure and enhanced mechanical properties of deposited material were investigated. Grain refinement was achieved by SiC particles added to the weld pool. Based on the characteristics of the fusion material and static stiffness of the component, a methodology is introduced to minimize shape deviation induced by the subsequent milling process. Special attention is given to tool orientation, which has a significant impact on the kinematics and resulting process forces during milling. An electromagnetic guided machine tool is used for compensation of workpiece deflection.

In this paper, dynamic response analysis of a Floating Offshore Wind Turbine (FOWT) with Spar-type floating foundation is presented. The FOWT mounts a 100kW down-wind turbine, and is grid-connected. It was launched at sea on 9th June 2012, and moored on 11th for the purpose of the demonstration experiment. During the experiment, the FOWT was attacked by severe typhoon events twice. Among them, Sanba (international designation: 1216) was the strongest tropical cyclone worldwide in 2012. The central atmospheric pressure was 940 hPa when it was close to the FOWT, and the maximum significant wave height of 9.5m was recorded at the site. In this paper, the dynamic responses of the platform motion, the stresses at the tower sections and the chain tensions during the typhoon event, Sanba (1216), have been analyzed, and compared with the measured data. Through the comparison, validation of the numerical simulation tool (Adams with SparDyn developed by the authors) has been made.

A coupler-driver for a planar mechanism is a revolute-prismatic-revolute (RPR) chain connected between ground and one of the links of the mechanism. The focus of this work is to investigate how the use of a coupler-driver as the source of actuation alters the set of solutions for a four position task by avoiding defects relative to the joints of the actuated mechanism. Type maps are a synthesis tool used to visualize the solutions for the four position task, which previous researchers have used to identify the mechanism class and the ability to actuate each solution through the task. This work extends the type map concept to represent the number of solutions to a four position task that are drivable via either a coupler-driver or an input torque at one of the fixed joints. The use of a coupler-driver as the actuator is found to allow many mechanisms that suffer from a branch defect relative to the joints of the kinematic solution mechanism to be valid solutions. For the example four position tasks tested, the coupler-driver was found to expand the number of four-bar mechanism solutions. As part of this analysis, a variation of the derivation of the space of fixed and moving pivot pairs that produce a coupler-driver capable of actuating a single degree of freedom planar mechanism is presented.

Polymerized Chain Reaction (PCR) technology has for a number of years been used as a tool for a range of applications in genetic research. Indeed, in the world of genetics PCR is considered to be one of the most important discoveries of the last century. This work is focused upon understanding and utilizing the thermodynamics of the fluid flow through microsystems, with the aim of developing an efficient thermocycler for PCR applications. The novel approach of utilizing the entropy generation rate in a couette type flow to provide entropic heating to the bio-fluid is addressed. The advantages of such a PCR device include, the removal of external heaters, an even distribution of heating through the bio-fluid, possibility of enhanced mixing, fast cycle times and the requirement for small sample sizes. These parameters are key requirements for an efficient PCR on the microscale. It is also demonstrated that this concept is not possible on the macro scale due to the ratio of heat generation relatively to fluid volume, however on the micro scale it is demonstrated to be theoretically plausible.
