With parameters fixed by critical temperature and equation of state at zero baryon chemical potential, a realistic Polyakov-Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (rPNJL) model predicts a critical end point of chiral phase transition at (μEB = 720MeV; TE = 93MeV). The extracted freeze-out line from heavy ion collisions is close to the chiral phase transition boundary in the rPNJL model, and the kurtosis kσ2 of baryon number fluctuations from the rPNJL model along the experimental freeze-out line agrees well with the BES-I measurement. This paper is devoted to locate the position of critical end point (CEP) and study its properties. The CEP for different current quark masses are located. It is found that as the current quark mass tends to zero, the position of the CEP tends to the tricrtical point (TCP), while the height of the chiral susceptibility tends to infinity faster and faster, which indicates that the transition from CEP to TCP is continuous. This continuity causes the so-called hidden TCP effect.

AbstractIn a system of quark matter we study the chiral phase transition, the behavior of the chiral and quark number susceptibility and the CEP at finite temperature and chemical potential. This is done within the framework of two-flavor Nambu and Jona-Lasinio model. We have calculated the chiral quark condensate and the quark number density and, with this, we have found the phase transition type. With these quantities we have determined the phase diagram for QCD and the CEP.

Modern business computing has evolved into an organizational engine that drives business and provides a powerful source for competitive advantage. IT has been integrated into organizational operations and activities in a way that application downtime is not an option since each hour, even minute of downtime may generate negative financial effects. In order to achieve higher levels of competitiveness, business has to be continuous from data availability perspective and agile with regard to data access. An enterprise information system (EIS) can be qualified as “high-quality” in terms of its architecture, application platform, and information it can provide to users but if that information is unavailable when it is needed by customer, manager, or any other end user, the value of that EIS simply becomes “zeroed” from end-users’ point of view. The deterioration of Sino-American relations has become a matter of growing concern for policymakers and academics in both countries. This chapter offers a critique of the American realist and liberal positions on China and examines a diverse range of Chinese views, highlighting the importance of understanding Chinese concepts and perspectives. A common flaw of realist and liberal theories is that they do not attempt to understand Chinese foreign policy goals and means with reference to Chinese culture and history. In this chapter the aim is to analyze multimodal realisation of contemporary Nigerian politics from a critical view point by considering political party images which are constructed and exploited in Nigerian politics to guarantee sustenance of interests by party stalwarts' patronage and consequently, electoral victory. The methodology consists of, first, outlining the political images and slogans; then socio-culturally and linguistically interpreting the symbols, and finally drawing effects of imaging on the ‘ideology' and affiliation of political parties in Nigeria. The 1607 page September 2011 Source Book on Political Parties' Manifestoes and Constitutions is the data source. Significant is that not more than 7 parties of about 69 parties profiled in the Source book, as at end of 2011 elections, interprets for the followers its symbols; thus not only leaving to guesses what the symbols either meant or are intended to convey but also significant is that what the symbols communicate ideologically are often not obvious neither to the casual to the casual reader nor even to the political elites behind the parties.

Carbon dioxide, either as an expanded liquid or as a supercritical fluid, may be a viable replacement for a variety of conventional organic solvents in reaction systems. Numerous studies have shown that many reactions can be conducted in liquid or supercritical CO2 (sc CO2) and, in some cases, rates and selectivities can be achieved that are greater than those possible in normal liquid- or gas-phase reactions (other chapters in this book; Noyori, 1999; Savage et al., 1995). Nonetheless, commercial exploitation of this technology has been limited. One factor that contributes to this reluctance is the extremely complex phase behavior that can be encountered with high-pressure multicomponent systems. Even for simple binary systems, one can observe multiple fluid phases, as shown in Figure 1.1. The figure shows the pressure–temperature (PT) projection of the phase diagram of a binary system, where the vapor pressure curve of the light component (e.g., CO2) is the solid line shown at temperatures below TB. It is terminated by its critical point, which is shown as a solid circle. The sublimation curve, melting curve, and vapor pressure curve of the pure component 2 (say, a reactant that is a solid at ambient conditions) are the solid lines shown at higher temperatures on the right side of the diagram; that is, the triple point of this compound is above TE. The solid might experience a significant melting point depression when exposed to CO2 pressure [the dashed–dotted solid/liquid/vapor (SLV) line, which terminates in an upper critical end point (UCEP)]. For instance, naphthalene melts at 60.1 °C under CO2 pressure (i.e., one might observe a three-phase solid/liquid/vapor system), even though the normal melting point is 80.5 °C (McHugh and Yogan, 1984). To complicate things even further, there will be a region close to the critical point of pure CO2 where one will observe three phases as well, as indicated by the dashed–dotted SLV line that terminates at the lower critical end point (LCEP). The dotted line connecting the critical point of the light component and the LCEP is a vapor/liquid critical point locus.

This chapter explores the well-preserved lower hull of the Emanuel Point Shipwreck during two campaigns of methodical excavation. We investigate and study the ship’s central mainmast and pump well; the tail end of the structure, including the sternpost and displaced rudder; and the collapsed bow section, with anchor and gunport covers. Perhaps 40 percent of the shipwreck site is explored, allowing critical dimensions of the ship’s structure to be measured for an estimation of its cargo capacity (tonnage).

To this end, the chapter discusses three critical trends: computerization, information overload, and social diversification.
