Segregation of textures on the basis of orientation differences between texture elements is achieved even when these texture elements differ from their surround only by colour (McIlhagga et al, 1990 Vision Research30 489 – 495). This finding seems to contradict the assumption that colour and orientation are extracted in separate feature maps (eg Treisman and Sato, 1990 Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance16 459 – 478). To examine whether colour information is evaluated in parallel in different processing streams for the assessment of hue and form, we tested whether texture elements can be segregated if they differ only by specific conjunctions of colour and orientation; texture elements consisted of crosses with their two crossing lines differing in colour. Texture elements defining figure and background had the same coloured composition but the conjunction of colour with the two crossing lines was reversed. Different colour combinations were tested under various luminance contrast conditions, irrespective of the colour combination, segmentation was achieved as long as the two crossing lines of the texture elements differed in luminance. If, however, the different colours of the two crossing lines were approximately equiluminant, segmentation was reduced or impossible. Thus, subjects were able to use for texture segregation conjunctions between luminance and orientation but not between colour and orientation. Our results suggest that colour cannot be associated selectively with differently oriented components of the same texture element. This supports the hypothesis that colour contrast is used in parallel by different processing streams to assess the orientation and hue of contours and reveals limitations in the selectivity with which features are subsequently bound together.

Compositional characteristics of seven lines of tomatoes have been determined. The following parameters were evaluated: dry matter, acidity (citric acid equivalent), Ca-pectate, ash, cellulose, sugars (total, reducing sugars, sucrose), mineral substances (N, P, K, Ca, Na), surface color and carotenoid content. From a compositional viewpoint, there were no significant differences between lines, but in cellulose, sucrose, mineral substances, carotenoid content, and surface colour parameters, a*, b*, L and h?. .

This study was carried out to analyze the impact of lines, egg shell colour and intraction between (Line ⁎ eggshell colours) on egg quality characteristics and hatching parameters assess the correlation between these traits in three local quail eggs (desert, brown and white). A total of 409 eggs were collected from female quails during 16 weeks divided into five groups on the basis of eggshell colour and spot colour for each line. The results revealed that there were significant (P≤0.05) variances among lines for quality characteristics of the whole egg (weight, length, width, Egg volume, Haugh unit), albumen (weight, height, diameter), yolk (weight, height, index, Yolk/albumen) and shell (weight, thickness, egg surface area, unit surface). The desert line resulted in the best quality. The results demonstrated that internal and external egg quality characters were differed significantly among egg shell colour. Whereas, yolk parameters such as: yolk weight, yolk height, Yolk diameter and Yolk percentage revealed no significance differences among these groups. Phenotypic correlation appeared that there were significant correlation coefficients among the internal and external egg quality traits. The incubation characteristics, fertility, hatchability of fertile eggs, hatchability of set eggs and Chick hatching weight were significantly differences among eggshell colour groups within lines.

SUMMARYThe tannin content of milled seed of 55 lines of Vicia faba was evaluated and related to flower and testa colour, seed weight and percentage of testa. Tannin content in the lines analysed was related more to flower colour than to testa colour. No relationship existed between tannin content and seed weight. Lines with low tannin content had a low proportion of testa.

This article presents an experimental study on the natural association between angles and colour. Specifically, for each angle width — formed by two segments joined at their vertex — studied, participants were asked to indicate the colour that they perceived as most closely related to it, choosing from the NCS Hue Circle. The results show that participants systematically established a natural and consistent association between certain angles and colours, when explicitly asked to choose the colour that they perceived as most naturally related to a given angle presented as two lines. The overall results suggest an association between acute angles and warm colours and obtuse angles and cool colours, confirming Kandinsky’s hypothesis. In particular, the strongest relations were found between the angle of 22.5° and yellows, the angles of 45°, 90° and 135° and green-yellows, and the angle of 157.5° and red-blues, when angles were presented on a white background.

SummaryThe Iraqi indigenous chickens (I.I.C.) are well adapted to a wide range of ambient temperature (-5°C to 50°C). They are found throughout the country and are raised for meat and eggs. The birds are active and independent foragers.The IPA Agricultural Research Centre played a role in the purification and multiplication of five different genetic lines according to feather colour. These lines are the progeny of segregating populations of the foundation stock which was a specimen collected from all over the country. The plumage colour of the I.I.C. lines varied from white to black. Most of the birds have white skin colour; comb type is single; egg-shell colour varied between white, tinted to brown; age at sexual maturity ranged between 162 to 166 days; body weight at sexual maturity was found to be similar for the differentlines (1.4 kg) indicating that I.I.C are small-sized birds and variations among lines of the I.I.C were significant for egg production, egg weight and feed efficiency.

Colour vision enables animals to detect and discriminate differences in chromatic cues independent of brightness. How the bee visual system manages this task is of interest for understanding information processing in miniaturized systems, as well as the relationship between bee pollinators and flowering plants. Bees can quickly discriminate dissimilar colours, but can also slowly learn to discriminate very similar colours, raising the question as to how the visual system can support this, or whether it is simply a learning and memory operation. We discuss the detailed neuroanatomical layout of the brain, identify probable brain areas for colour processing, and suggest that there may be multiple systems in the bee brain that mediate either coarse or fine colour discrimination ability in a manner dependent upon individual experience. These multiple colour pathways have been identified along both functional and anatomical lines in the bee brain, providing us with some insights into how the brain may operate to support complex colour discrimination behaviours.

Since red alleles (R) of the genes that control grain colour are important for the improvement of preharvest sprouting resistance in wheat and there are three independently inherited loci, on chromosomes 3A, 3B and 3D of hexaploid wheat, it is possible to vary the dosage of dominant alleles in a breeding program. The objective of this work was to evaluate the dosage effect of R genes on preharvest sprouting, in a single seed descent population, named TRL, derived from the cross between Timgalen, white-grained wheat, and RL 4137, red-grained wheat. The study was carried out using sprouting data in ripe ears obtained under artificial conditions in a rainfall simulator over three years. According to the results there is a significant effect on preharvest sprouting provided by colour and a weaker effect of increasing R dosage. However, the significant residual genotypic variation between red lines and all lines (reds and whites) at 0.1% level showed that preharvest sprouting was also controlled by other genes. There are no significant correlations between sprouting and date of ripeness or between ripeness, R dosage and colour intensity.

An object-oriented computational framework for the transformation of colour data and colour metric tensors is presented. The main idea of the design is to represent the transforms between spaces as compositions of objects from a class hierarchy providing the methods for both the transforms themselves and the corresponding Jacobian matrices. In this way, new colour spaces can be implemented on the fly by transforming from any existing colour space, and colour data in various formats as well as colour metric tensors and colour difference data can easily be transformed between the colour spaces. This reduces what normally requires several days of coding to a few lines of code without introducing a significant computational overhead. The framework is implemented in the Python programming language.

Darmkrebszellen und T-Zellen regulieren ihren zentralen Kohlenstoffmetabolismus um ihren anabolen Bedarf zu erfüllen. Tumorzellen mit einer KRAS- oder BRAF-Mutation zeigen ein schnelles Wachstum, welches eine Umprogrammierung des Metabolismus vor aussetzt. Der mitochondriale T-Zellen-Aktivierungsinhibitor (TCAIM) ist bekannt dafür die mitochondriale Zellstruktur zu beeinflussen. Der Einfluss auf den Metabolismus nicht klar. In dieser Arbeit präsentiere ich erstmalig ein mathematische Model des zentralen Kohlen stoffmetabolismus in Darmkrebszellen und T-Zellen. Mithilfe dieses Modells analysiere ich, wie sich die Regulation in ähnlichen Zelllinien unterscheidet. In Bezug auf die Darm krebszellen vergleiche ich BRAF-(CaCO2-BRAFV600E), KRAS-(CaCO2-KRASG12V) mu tierte Zelllinien mit einer Basiszelllinie (CaCO2-control) und zeige, dass der Kohlenstoff metabolismus in BRAF-mutierten Zellen im Vergleich zu den beiden übrigen Zelllinien herabreguliert ist. Das Modell bestätigt außerdem, dass der Monocarboxylattransporter (MCT) in den Darmkrebszellen eine wichtige Rolle, insbesondere in den KRAS mu tierten Zellen, spielt. In T-Zellen zeigt der Vergleich von Wildtypzellen (CD8 T-Zellen) mit TCAIM homozygoten Zellen (TCAIM homozygote CD8 T-Zellen), dass der Kohlen stoffmetabolismus in zweiteren überwiegend herabreguliert und weniger aktiv ist. Diesen Effekt konnte ich durch die Analyse von RNASeq-Daten der jeweiligen Zelltypen bestä- tigen. Des Weiteren stelle ich fest, dass sich der Tricarbonsäurezyklus umkehrt, wenn durch die Glykolyse nicht ausreichend Laktat exportiert und die Biomasseproduktion unterstützt werden kann. Meine Arbeit stellt damit insgesamt einen neuartigen Ansatz zur Integration von Meta bolomik und RNAseq Daten dar, um die Regulation des zentralen Kohlenstoffmetabo lismus zu verstehen.
Colon cancer cells and T cells regulate central carbon metabolism to meet their anabolic needs. In KRAS and BRAF tumors, metabolic reprogramming is a premise to support rapid proliferation. In T cells, the mitochondrial T cell activation inhibitor (TCAIM) is known to affect mitochondrial morphology but its effect on cellular metabolism is not well understood. Via mathematical modelling, I investigate the differential regulation of closely related cell lines. I present the first mathematical model for colon cancer and T cell metabolism, unraveling differential regulation between related cell lines. The model shows that CaCO2-BRAFV600Ecells are mostly downregulated compared to CaCO2-KRASG12Vand CaCO2-control. Additionally, it demonstrates the critical role of monocarboxylate transporter (MCT), especially for CaCO2-KRASG12V. Concerning T cells, I compare wild-type T cells to homozygous TCAIM T cells. This unveils that TCAIM homozygous cells have a mostly downregulated TCA cycle, validated by RNASeq data, and are less metabolically active than wild-type T cells. Furthermore, if the glycolytic flux is not sufficient to support lactate export and biomass production, the model reveals that the TCA cycle is reversed as it requires less regulation. Taken together, this work presents a novel approach to integrate data referring to metabolic and genetic regulation of metabolism. On this basis, we can now better discriminate the metabolic capacity of CaCO2-control, CaCO2-BRAFV600E, CaCO2-KRASG12V, wildtype CD8 T cells, and homozygous TCAIM CD8 T cells.

The purpose of this thesis was two-fold. First, an investigation into the design process was conducted in order to find the influences, which bring forth architecture from various methods of play and interaction with materials, media and idea forming. This work was documented with several stop motion animations and compiled in the form of a movie that is attached to this book. Following this examination, a more traditional design method was used to create a Montessori School that would draw inspiration from its position between the earth and sun to guide its architecture. The result of this method is evident through the following drawings and models.

This thesis examines the phenomenon of colour as a means of expression of meaning in spatial contexts. The nature of the underpinning project involved paintings and their integration with an architectural setting. Judgements made-in-situ by users of the building and an expert focus group (architects, designers and fine artists) were comparatively analysed for variance in interpretations of meaning, taking into consideration their experience with colour as a medium of expression. Commonalities and differences in the responses of colour amongst and between the various groups were also analysed. To achieve this a combination of questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, and focus group meetings were used as data sources. The researcher used her experience as a painter to create two large paintings (11.5m x 2m each), which were installed in the public space of the Manchester Bridgewater Concert Hall over a period of four months. One painting was predominantly blue and green, the other was predominantly yellow and red. The installation had two phases, in which the respective paintings were each installed separately and accompanied by a corresponding lighting scheme. Colours were separated into two temperature groups - warm and cold. However, previous research findings had indicated that responses to these two groups of colour differ along other dimensions also. What had not been established by previous research, and was examined in this project, was whether these indicative differences would apply when colour is approached as part of an holistic environmental meaning rather than in isolation. The integration of paintings and colour into the architectural setting made it possible for multiple layers of experience to be examined. Meaning was extracted from the relationship between colour and the perception of two dimensions of space - pictorial space depicted in the paintings and the architectural space. The relationship between both was also explored which allowed the confirmation of previous findings and the analysis of the variables which need to be addressed when dealing with colour for paintings in real architectural environments. The thesis describes the author's conceptual model based on a combination of this empirical evidence and theoretical framework developed from the existing interdisciplinary body of knowledge on colour. The thesis also discusses how relationships between the aesthetic and psychological categories were established. It contributes to the field by demonstrating how the subjectivity of the perceptual experience can be translated into the expression of meaning along cognitive and affective dimensions within the context of a real-life application of colour in space. Additional to the written thesis a short audiovisual provided in both video and CD Rom, was created to show both the making of the paintings and their installation at the Bridgewater Concert Hall.

This research investigates the creative use of expressive drapery and textiles, and in particular the line of washing, in three films that have rich displays of fabrics and costume: The Piano (dir. Jane Campion, 1993), The Governess (dir. Sandra Goldbacher, 1998) and Girl with a Pearl Earring (dir. Peter Webber, 2003); and provides the inspiration for a series of short films that explore positive and negative aspects of clotheslines and textiles. The research areas of Film Costume, Fashion Studies and Art History each provide relevant context and background to the study of the clothes and linens in the three films under consideration. Significant themes that are considered include: cinema’s ambivalent relationship with costume; dress, undress and the male gaze; representations of historical and character-coded clothing; the expression of fantasy and desire through textiles and costume; and the contribution of art history towards creating an understanding of fabrics that denote a separation between the ordinary and extraordinary and between reality and an imaginary sphere. Mary Ann Doane’s study of the gaze at the interface of the interior and exterior of the home in the ‘woman’s film’ leads her to consider the frequent portrayal of women waiting by or looking through windows in relation to Freud’s theory of The Uncanny and leads me to recognize that the line of washing in cinema also denotes the limits of a woman’s space within the grounds of her home and marks a formal boundary between the familiar and the unknown. Similarly, the line of washing reflects notions of The 5 Uncanny in displays that portray tensions between the opposing themes of the seen and unseen, the spoken and unspoken, of presence and absence and of purity and contamination. The idea of familiar clothes and linens displayed on the line of washing as alternately comforting and disconcerting has become the focus of my practice. Some of the works have been shown individually during the course of this study in group and open art exhibitions, and a solo exhibition at Galeri Caernarfon 15th January – 24th February 2017 showed the collected short films and supporting material resulting from the research.

Professors from different studies such as fine arts, engineering in industrial design and digital graphic design and from different universities (Politécnica de Madrid, Complutense de Madrid and Internacional de La Rioja) have participated in an educational innovation project dealing with sketching as a starting point to creation. Teachers from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid proposed to their students exchange experiences. Students from industrial design went to classes to the Fine Art Faculty and fine art students had to deal with an industrial design proposal. The aim of the experience is to know how students from different studies manage drawing tools to start their work; drawings to finally paint a still life, drawings to understand volume in a sculpture plaster model to reproduce it with clay, and sketches to propose a Christmas ornament made with wood. After the experience, drawings from exercises from the three universities have been analyzed to establish similarities and differences in the use of visual language (points, lines, planes, surfaces, and color, between others). Fine art students use the lines with ease, hints, light with the inclusion of color spots as part of the approach to the solution. Industrial design students, on the other hand, consider the line as an essential element in their drawings, well-marked, clearly delimiting the edges of the object, integrating color as an addition rather than as an integrating element. And finally, but not last, students from digital graphic design use lines as a language to propose fast schematic approaches, lines as added texts, and generally a lack of color. Even though each field of knowledge has some particularities, we think that the drawing approach is essential to face creations no matter their essence. Sketches in early stages mean to face problems, to think and to translate ideas into a two-dimensional surface.

On car exteriors, geometrical variation, stemming from the manufacturing process, can distort the visible relationships between parts, i.e. the split-lines. In the automotive industry, non-nominal visualization is often implemented as a part of early concept reviews. Visualizing the results from a Computer-Aided Tolerancing analysis in a virtual environment allows to evaluate what deviations will be visible to customers and whether they can have a negative influence on the perceived product quality. The geometry, colors and materials of parts make some split-lines more visually sensitive than others because on them, potential deviations are especially disturbing to the onlooker. Moreover, the visual sensitivity is influenced by the context of product interaction in terms of illumination, reflections and the observer’s viewing angle. These factors need to be taken into account when determining tolerance levels to ensure that an industrial design concept will look good once produced. This paper presents a study of the influence split-line geometry and several visualization parameters have on the ability of test persons to identify geometrical deviations in a number of computer generated images. Additionally, eye-tracking was performed to identify what areas of the split-lines the test persons looked at while performing the task. The results confirm that the included split-lines are not equally sensitive to variation. Further, it is shown that the visualization settings indeed have an influence on the ability to detect variation but that the most sensitive settings differ between combinations of deviations and split-lines.

Abstract This paper aims to study the successive mooring line failure (also known as the domino effect) and the collision between floating collars for aquaculture net cages subjected to currents. The numerical model of this study is developed based on the Morison equation and the lumped-mass scheme in the time domain. This model is then applied to see if the domino effect of moorings will happen after releasing the anchor point #1 on the upstream side. In this study, we adopt four different current speeds (0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 m/s) and three different safety factors (SF, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0) settings to calculate the number of mooring failures, and to see whether it will cause floating collars collision. The results show that in the case of the SF is 2.0, the domino effect will not be triggered, and the floating collar collision will not occur. When the SF is 1.5, and the current speed is up to 1.0 m/s or higher, only the two anchor points on the upstream side will fail and no collision will occur. However, if the SF is not considered (that is, 1.0), the domino effect will occur under all the four current speeds, and the floating collar collision will all occur. Therefore, we suggest that in order to avoid the domino effect of the mooring system of aquaculture net cages from currents, the SF of the mooring system design must be at least 2 times.

Abstract Stress Intensification Factors or SIFs allow piping to be analyzed using beam theory, with a SIF representing local effects of specific piping geometry. However, the current piping codes do not explicitly provide SIFs for collared type piping joints for use in pipe stress calculations. The objective of this paper is to describe the methodology on how a finite element analysis (FEA) was to model the behavior of collared joints, and to ultimately develop appropriate SIFs that can be used in pipe stress analyses. This paper describes a real-life analysis example on collared joints installed on a set of existing fuel transfer lines. The lines, which ranged in size from DN200 to DN350, were concrete lined carbon steel with the collars fillet welded to the carbon steel section of the piping. Test coupons cut from existing pipe-collar sections were tested in a laboratory to determine the forces required to break the collar welds. Using FEA, the same test coupons were modelled to replicate the failure tests. Multiple iterations were undertaken to determine an appropriate bi-linear stress-strain curve fit for the weld material. The curves of different weld electrode materials were considered. The curve which lead to results similar to those observed in physical testing was selected. From this, a failure stress across the weld could be determined. This stress, 435MPa was then used in subsequent models to determine the point at which the weld fails under bending loads. Multiple tests were analyzed to allow for possible effects of inclusions and voids. Finite element models of the collar geometries were constructed and non-linear analyses were undertaken using the weld strengths determined from the coupon testing data. A simple cantilever type arrangement with a point load at one end was analyzed, inducing a bending moment across the collar. The peak stress resulting from the bending moment across the collar weld at the center of the cantilevered pipe arrangement, was investigated across various pipe diameters, wall thicknesses, weld sizes and collar geometries. Based on the results, a relationship between the pipe geometry and SIF was developed. Hence a pipe stress model of the transfer lines could ultimately be developed using these SIFs to predict the behavior of the piping.

In previous experiments we have attempted to measure color differences required to obtain parallel visual search. (Nagy and Sanchez, 1988) The observer's task was to search for a small target disk that differed only in color from white distractor disks also present in the display. When the color difference between the target and distractors was small the time required to find the target depended on the number of distractors present. We refer to this as a serial search. When the color difference was large the search time was independent of the number of distractors present. We refer to this as parallel search. In order to estimate the color difference required to obtain parallel search we measured search time as a function of color difference in displays with a large number of distractors. Search times decreased with increases in color difference until a minimum was reached and then remained constant with further increases in color difference. From these experiments we estimated the smallest color difference at which parallel search could be obtained along several lines in color space. We will refer to these color differences as critical color differences, or CCD's. CCD's varied from approximately 12 to 40 times the size of the MacAdam unit of color difference depending on the direction in color space.

Local Stanton numbers were experimentally determined for the endwall surface of a turbine vane passage. A six vane linear cascade having vanes with an axial chord of 13.81 cm was used. Results were obtained for Reynolds numbers based on inlet velocity and axial chord between 73,000 and 495,000. The test section was connected to a low pressure exhaust system. Ambient air was drawn into the test section, inlet velocity was controlled up to a maximum of 59.4 m/sec. The effect of the inlet boundary layer thickness on the endwall heat transfer was determined for a range of test section flow rates. The liquid crystal measurement technique was used to measure heat transfer. Endwall heat transfer was determined by applying electrical power to a foil heater attached to the cascade endwall. The temperature at which the liquid crystal exhibited a specific color was known from a calibration test. Lines showing this specific color were isotherms, and because of uniform heat generation they were also lines of nearly constant heat transfer. Endwall static pressures were measured, along with surveys of total pressure and flow angles at the inlet and exit of the cascade.

Fruit quality is determined by numerous genetic factors that affect taste, aroma, ‎color, texture, nutritional value and shelf life. To unravel the genetic components ‎involved in the metabolic pathways behind these traits, the major goal of the project was to identify novel genes that are involved in, or that regulate, these pathways using correlation analysis between genotype, metabolite and gene expression data. The original and specific research objectives were: (1) Collection of replicated fruit from a population of 96 RI lines derived from parents distinguished by great diversity in fruit development and quality phenotypes, (2) Phenotypic and metabolic profiling of mature fruit from all 96 RI lines and their parents, (3) 454 pyrosequencing of cDNA representing mRNA of mature fruit from each line to facilitate gene expression analysis based on relative EST abundance, (4) Development of a database modeled after an existing database developed for tomato introgression lines (ILs) to facilitate online data analysis by members of this project and by researchers around the world. The main functions of the database will be to store and present metabolite and gene expression data so that correlations can be drawn between variation in target traits or metabolites across the RI population members and variation in gene expression to identify candidate genes which may impact phenotypic and chemical traits of interest, (5) Selection of RI lines for segregation and/or hybridization (crosses) analysis to ascertain whether or not genes associated with traits through gene expression/metabolite correlation analysis are indeed contributors to said traits. The overall research strategy was to utilize an available recombinant inbred population of melon (Cucumis melo L.) derived from phenotypically diverse parents and for which over 800 molecular markers have been mapped for the association of metabolic trait and gene expression QTLs. Transcriptomic data were obtained by high throughput sequencing using the Illumina platform instead of the originally planned 454 platform. The change was due to the fast advancement and proven advantages of the Illumina platform, as explained in the first annual scientific report. Metabolic data were collected using both targeted (sugars, organic acids, carotenoids) and non-targeted metabolomics analysis methodologies. Genes whose expression patterns were associated with variation of particular metabolites or fruit quality traits represent candidates for the molecular mechanisms that underlie them. Candidate genes that may encode enzymes catalyzingbiosynthetic steps in the production of volatile compounds of interest, downstream catabolic processes of aromatic amino acids and regulatory genes were selected and are in the process of functional analyses. Several of these are genes represent unanticipated effectors of compound accumulation that could not be identified using traditional approaches. According to the original plan, the Cucurbit Genomics Network (http://www.icugi.org/), developed through an earlier BARD project (IS-3333-02), was expanded to serve as a public portal for the extensive metabolomics and transcriptomic data resulting from the current project. Importantly, this database was also expanded to include genomic and metabolomic resources of all the cucurbit crops, including genomes of cucumber and watermelon, EST collections, genetic maps, metabolite data and additional information. In addition, the database provides tools enabling researchers to identify genes, the expression patterns of which correlate with traits of interest. The project has significantly expanded the existing EST resource for melon and provides new molecular tools for marker-assisted selection. This information will be opened to the public by the end of 2013, upon the first publication describing the transcriptomic and metabolomics resources developed through the project. In addition, well-characterized RI lines are available to enable targeted breeding for genes of interest. Segregation of the RI lines for specific metabolites of interest has been shown, demonstrating the utility in these lines and our new molecular and metabolic data as a basis for selection targeting specific flavor, quality, nutritional and/or defensive compounds. To summarize, all the specific goals of the project have been achieved and in many cases exceeded. Large scale trascriptomic and metabolomic resources have been developed for melon and will soon become available to the community. The usefulness of these has been validated. A number of novel genes involved in fruit ripening have been selected and are currently being functionally analyzed. We thus fully addressed our obligations to the project. In our view, however, the potential value of the project outcomes as ultimately manifested may be far greater than originally anticipated. The resources developed and expanded under this project, and the tools created for using them will enable us, and others, to continue to employ resulting data and discoveries in future studies with benefits both in basic and applied agricultural - scientific research.

There are several terms which describe the Planckian radiation temperature for light sources, including radiance temperature, colour temperature, correlated colour temperature, distribution temperature and ratio temperature. This document provides descriptions of these terms, information on their applicability, and highlights relationships between them so that they may be consistently applied in all applications. Definitions and additional explanatory information for each term are given in this document. Obviously, the greater the difference between the radiation considered and a Planckian radiator, the more tenuous the interpretation of the temperature attribution. Guidelines as to agreed reasonable limits of applicability, if any, are therefore also given, together with information on the calculation of the associated measurement uncertainties where relevant.
