Abstract Since March 2014, a sustainably focused community located on a 0.7 hectares site in Portland, Oregon, USA, has been undertaking an experimental composting toilet system modeled after the Water Efficiency and Sanitation Standard (WE-Stand) set out by the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO). This system collects urine and hot composts human excreta in a dry-composting toilet system for eventual use on the community's organic gardens. The system design reduces the need to access municipal water, sewer, and electrical infrastructure, enhancing emergency preparedness. It conserves an otherwise wasted nutrient flow, and safely produces a valuable compost. The system consists of urine collection vessels, multiple portable collection containers for excreta, toilet paper, and additive, and a compost processor. Urine diversion has allowed the community to reclaim nitrogen and other nutrients otherwise lost in conventional sewage systems, resulting in large savings of potable water and significant carbon sequestration via topsoil creation. Logs showed thermophilic compost temperatures. Compost and urine pathogen testing met American National Standards Institute and National Sanitation Foundation Standard 41 requirements.

Abstract The process of composting sugarcane residue by new bio-decomposer consortium formula contain specific microbes with different functions such as ligninolytic and cellulolytic microbes can improve the quality of agricultural waste. These bacteria have the potential to enhance sugarcane litter and other sugarcane residues. The fermentation process led to the C/N ratio of compost serves as a reference for the effectiveness of the decomposition process by bacteria. The research was designed as an alternative to producing organic fertilizers by using four bio-decomposer consortium formulas as ISAFCRI collection and EM4 as commercial bio-decomposer. The physicochemical characterization of 5 composts, including the C/N ratio of compost, is below 12-17, macroelements N, P, K available in compost are relatively high compared to the minimum requirement of SNI. The compost 5 with EM4 bio-decomposer appeared to have lower nutrient yields than compost using other decomposers. Compost 1 with formula one, which contains a consortium of lignocellulolytic bacteria, has excellent potential to be developed as a new bio-decomposer formula for processing sugarcane waste. The pilot test has shown that varieties of composts and organic fertilizers can be made from a mixture of sugarcane residue.

In this study aims to recycle farmers market and garden waste into compost and bring it back to soil as a useful and valuable organic fertilizer thanks to natural processes in Seyhan Region. With the compost production, it is aimed to promote both soil improvement and organic fertilizer use and recycling. The compost has many benefits for agricultural activities. This review, the main challenges of the process of organic waste compost and explores the crucial aspects related to the quality of the produced the importance of compost. Although the importance of compost production is known, the importance of composting and more information are needed. Therefore, in this study, innovative approaches with different methods have been investigated. Environmental and biodiversity impacts related to organic waste composting detailed in this study. This study investigated the application of blue-green algae to enhance the quality of composts composed from multiple organic waste. This research provides an innovative method for using algae the compost products. The importance of using algae in order to achieve rapid results in innovative and sustainable agriculture areas in composting was explained. A pilot project application was established to optimize organic waste collection and composting for agriculture in Compost Production facility in Seyhan Municipality. In addition, also in this study contributed to the environmental and biodiversity awareness and zero waste projects research of applicability. Studying areas should be created for composting in municipalities.

Preparators and taxidermists spend a great deal of time preparing osteological materials before these can enter collections. The different preparation methods can have variable results and even the type of specimen being prepared can impact on its overall finish after preparation. This can often result in a lot of extra preparation work to finish or tidy up specimens. Common methods for preparation include maceration, dermestid beetles, burial and composting. Most techniques require initial preparation (flensing) and subsequent work that often introduces more chemicals or handling of the specimens. Each method has uncontrolled elements and difficulties. Dermestids are sometimes temperamental in their preferences and require a lot of care to maintain. Maceration often involves additives like detergents or follow-up chemical treatments. Burial is often highly uncontrolled, leading to problems of drainage and the build-up of unwanted pH environments. Marine mammals or larger specimens present further challenges, being oily or too large to process onsite. When these types of specimens are buried they must often be further processed before entering the collections. All of these different processes can have an impact on the long-term preservation of the individual specimens, which is a concern for conservators. A separate project was set up to investigate how illegally traded bones (tiger in this case) are affected by various environmental (“preparation”) conditions. A series of stations was set up simulating different environments, one being a compost. This started off further investigations into composting as a viable routine preparation technique. We will contrast the recent recovery of three buried beaked whales with composting trials of a frozen unflensed beaked whale skull and a small whole dolphin. The composting techniques seem to allow greater control, and produced excellent results. Our visual results will be complemented with data from the compost site, such as temperature loggers. This is currently an ongoing investigation and it is hoped that further data will be collected over time, such as pH testing of soil samples from burial sites and compost sites. Data from two trials at the Australian Museum – a larger outdoor controlled compost heap and smaller plastic tub composts – will be presented. This project highlights the importance of data collection during specimen preparation. The pathways a specimen goes through before entering a collection have an impact on its long-term preservation and research potential. These data need to be retained.

O composto químico inédito utilizado neste trabalho foi o 1,3-bis(2-metoxi-4-nitrofenil)triazeno pertencente à classe dos triazenos, espécie química envolvendo cadeias abertas com três ou mais átomos de nitrogênio ligados em sequência, caracterizados pelo grupo diazoamínico. Muitos triazenos têm atividade biológica, uma vez que as aminas presentes nestes compostos têm locais específicos de ação nas membranas celulares e a capacidade de formar ligações de hidrogênio. Os triazenos são amplamente utilizados em sínteses experimentais de novos compostos. Este trabalho descreve a avaliação da atividade biológica e o potencial antimicrobiano do triazeno 1,3-bis(2-metoxi-4-nitrofenil)triazeno (TZC). Foram realizados testes das atividades antimicrobianas do TZC, mediante avaliação da sensibilidade da solução do composto frente às bactérias ATCC´s (American Type Culture Collection, ATCC) e isolados clínicos, aplicando-se ensaios microbiológicos padronizados. O potencial antimicrobiano foi determinado pela Concentração Inibitória Mínima (CIM), exibindo resultados promissores, com atividade diante de bactérias Gram-positivas e Gram-negativas, com baixos valores de CIM. Os resultados mostraram a potencialidade do TZC, frente à resistência das cepas bacterianas selecionadas.PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Triazeno, Atividade antimicrobiana, Gram-positivos e Gram-negativos.

The paper is devoted to the study of the toxicity of composts based on sewage sludge in relation to radish seeds and seedlings, as well as earthworms. The most phytotoxic are the substrates of variant b - with the microbiological preparation Tamir and worms, the substrates of variant b - with Tamir (without worms) were less toxic, a weak toxic and even stimulating effect on the growth of radish roots was detected in the substrates of variant a - control, without worms and Tamir. Due to the high phytotoxicity, compost № 1, № 3, № 5 and № 6 are not recommended for use in crop production, and substrates № 2(a) and № 4(a) in connection with the identified stimulating effect can be recommended. Phytotoxicity of substrates may be related to their composition: food waste is present in the composition of toxic composts, and this component is not present in non-toxic composts. The decrease and increase in the biomass of worms in composts does not correlate with the revealed phytotoxicity and the composition of their mycobiota. Due to the low species diversity and abundance of cosmopolitan, toxin-forming and conditionally pathogenic fungal species in the structure of mycocoenoses of bioconversion substrates, it can be assumed that their maturation time is insufficient. With an increase in the incubation time of composts of a similar composition for more than 30 days, we predict a change in the structure of their mycocoenoses towards an increase in the species diversity of non-toxic saprotrophs, as well as cellulolytics of the genera Trichoderma and Chaetomium . The prospect of further research in this direction is the compilation of a collection of micromycetes of composts.

ABSTRACT Elucidating the mineralization of organic composts makes it possible to understand the release of nutrients to plants. The objective of this study was to evaluate the mineralization of nitrogen (N) and carbon (C) from organic compost from residues of the production and slaughter of small ruminants, applied on a Neossolo Flúvico (Fluvents). The compost consists of remains of grass (forage), manure and slaughter residues such as blood, viscera and the carcass of goats and sheep. Under laboratory conditions, two experiments were conducted in a completely randomized design, considering the doses of organic compost at the following levels: zero; 3.75, 7.5, 15 and 30 Mg ha-1. For the N and C mineralization tests, 11 and 32 collection times (sampling periods) were evaluated, respectively. Inorganic N content (ammonium and nitrate) was measured in the N mineralization test, and CO2-C concentration was quantified in the C mineralization test. The largest increments between the applied doses of organic compost from residues of the production and slaughter of small ruminants were 70% and 69% for potentially mineralizable N and C, with amounts of 7.5 and 30 Mg ha-1 at doses of 3.75 and 7.5 Mg ha-1, respectively. Organic C and N from residues of the production and slaughter of small ruminants are rapidly mineralized in the soil (up to 45 days) due to their low C/N ratio.

Анотація:
The paper discusses the use of non-traditional types of organic waste in vermicomposting in greenhouses on the territory of the middle taiga forest zone of Western Siberia. Experimental studies were carried out in the laboratories of the scientific and educational center and the center for collective use of the Institute of Natural and Technical Sciences of Surgut State University in 20012020. The main objects of the study were brewers grains, waste from the production of the Kristal brewing company in Surgut and wastewater sludge from the treatment facilities of the Gorvodokanal in Surgut. Additionally, the composition of complex composts included sand, office waste paper, waste coffee, food waste, leaf and grass litter, bird droppings and the microbiological additive Tamir. The compost worms of the Eisenia foetida Prospector species were used as vermiculture. 10 juveniles were launched in the first series of experiments and 50 juvenile worms were launched in the second series. The resulting vermicomposting is more effective in quality than the original substrates. The use of the hybrid Prospector can be effectively used in the disposal of non-traditional organic waste. Complex composts mature more efficiently when microbiological additives are added. In the studied substrates the content of heavy metals was reduced to MPC norms.

Composés de collectifs, de groupes et de réseaux mobilisés autour d’enjeux de lutte divers, le mouvement antiautoritaire qui s’est consolidé au Québec dans la foulée des mobilisations altermondialistes est guidé par des valeurs qui s’inspirent d’une « boussole éthique » commune. Cette dernière est fondée sur une vision de l’anarchisme en tant que processus qui se réalise par la préfiguration, ici et maintenant, d’une société fondée sur l’autonomie collective. Trois microcohortes de militantes et de militants (pro)féministes ont alimenté le développement de pratiques en ce sens, par la promotion de l’autoorganisation et de l’autodétermination. Les microcohortes des féministes radicales et (pro)féministes, des radical queers et, enfin, des féministes et des (pro)féministes qui s’engagent dans la lutte anticoloniale et antiraciste ont contribué à l’atteinte de cet objectif par l’entremise d’une démarche de pollinisation qui permet la diffusion de ces pratiques dans différents espaces du mouvement et à l’extérieur de celui-ci. L’analyse présentée dans cet article est le fruit d’un travail de recherche-action participative réalisé au sein du Collectif de recherche sur l’autonomie collective (CRAC), groupe d’affinité (pro)féministe et antiautoritaire dont l’objectif était de documenter les initiatives de son propre mouvement.

Au Niger, le Gombo représente l’une des plus importantes cultures maraichères. L’objectif de cette étude était d’évaluer l’impact de cinq types de fertilisants sur la productivité de trois variétés du gombo de la région de Zinder. L’étude a été conduite pendant la campagne agricole 2020-2021 en deux essais repartis sur deux périodes : la première pendant la saison de pluie (Juillet à Octobre 2020) et la deuxième en saison sèche froide (octobre 2020 à Janvier2021). Le dispositif adopté est un split-plot avec trois répétions et cinq traitements de fertilisants dont deux types de composts (Fumier de bovin et Fiente de volaille bien décomposés), deux fertilisants minéraux (NPK et Urée) et un témoin qui consistait à aucun apport de fertilisants. Les données collectées à travers 15 caractères agronomiques et morphologiques du gombo ont été analysées avec le logiciel XLSTAT version d’essai 2021. Il résulte de cette étude que les fertilisants ont eu des impacts sur la productivité des variétés du gombo. La meilleure production en biomasse et en fruits a été obtenue avec la Fiente de volaille suivie de NPK et Compost pour toutes les variétés étudiées. En effet, la fiente de volaille a augmenté de plus 70% le poids des fruits chez la variété longue. Donc la fiente de volaille et le compost pourraient constituer une bonne alternative aux engrais minéraux.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to share one uncommon way that an academic library moved toward more sustainable library operations and to share lessons learned in the implementation of a compost collection program in an academic library. Design/methodology/approach Case study. Findings The right collaboration is critical to successfully implementing a library composting program and challenges like working around supply purchasing hurdles, reducing contamination in the collection bins, and working out appropriate assessment techniques may be encountered. Practical implications Academic libraries can implement compost collections program if the proper infrastructure exists and the appropriate partnerships are established. Social implications Academic libraries can be leaders in sustainable building operations and provide learning opportunities for the entire campus and surrounding community. Originality/value Very little published literature exists on implementing composting program in libraries of any kind. This case study helps to build that body of literature.

Afin d’évaluer l’impact du compost ménager sur la restauration de la fertilité des sols maraîchers de Kolwezi, un essai conduit en split plot avec deux variétés de tomate (Tanya et Tengeru) et trois doses (20, 25 et 30 t.ha-1 ) de compo st ménager appliquées seules et/ou combinées à 250 kg ha-1 de NPK en comparaison d’un témoin sans fertilisation a été installé dans deux sites maraîchers (Musompo et Mwangeji). Les déchets collectés auprès de 100 ménages ont été triés et pesés en vue de dé terminer la composition physique d’une poubelle et la part biodégradable a été compostée. Pour renseigner la valeur agronomique du compost l’analyse chimique a été effectuée. De cette étude, il a été révélé qu’en moyenne, une poubelle à Kolwezi est compos ée de plus de 50 % de déchets dégradables dont le compost qui en est issu est un réservoir de N, P, K et autres éléments indispensables à la culture Appliquées sur un sol perçu pauvre et confirmé par les analyses chimiques, les doses de compost améliorent la fertilité de sol consécutivement le rendement de la tomate . 11,4 t.ha 1 contre 11,7 t.ha 1 obtenu respectivement aux apports de 30 t.ha-1 de compost et 30 t.ha-1 + 250 kg.ha 1 de NPK, suppose que le compost issu des déchets ménag er s serait utilisé en l égume cult u re sans êtr e combiner aux engrais minéraux L ’application supplémentaire de 250 kg NPK induit in évitablement une baisse de la profi tabilité ainsi , 20 t.ha-1 de compost est recommand able L’analyse microbienne et l’usage de compost ménager sur l es légumes feuilles seraient une seconde phase de l’étude.Mots clés : Compost de d échet ménager, restauration de sol , gestion, Kolwezi. English Title: Effects of household composts on soil properties and productivity of vegetable crops: The case of tomato (<i> Lycopersicon esculentum </i>Mill)In Kolwezi, the soils are generally sandy in texture. Their chemical richness is at a very low level for all nutrients with a direct impact on crop yields. In order to assess the impact of household compost on restoring the fertility of market garden soils in Kolwezi, a spl it plot trial with two tomato varieties (Tanya and Tengeru) and three doses (20, 25 and 30 t.ha-1) of household compost applied alone and/or combined with 250 kg ha-1 of NPK compared to a control without fertilizer was set up in two market garden sites (Musompo and Mwangeji). The waste collected from 100 households was sorted and weighed to determine the physical composition of a bin and the biodegradable part was composted. To inform the agronomic value of the compost, chemical analysis was carried out. From this study, it was revealed that on average, a bin in Kolwezi is composed of more than 50% degradable waste, from which the compost that is produced is a reservoir of N, P, K and other elements essential for cultivation. Applied on a soil perceived as poor and confirmed by chemical analyses, the compost doses improve soil fertility as a result of the tomato yield. 11.4 t.ha-1 against 11.7 t.ha-1 obtained respectively with the inputs of 30 t.ha-1 of compost and 30 t.ha-1 + 250 kg.ha-1 of NPK, supposes that the compost from household waste would be used in legume-cultivation without being combined with mineral fertilizers. The additional application of 250 kg NPK inevitably leads to a decrease in profitability, so 20 t.ha-1 of compost is recommended. Microbial analysis and the use of household compost on leafy vegetables would be a second phase of the study.Keywords: Household waste compost, soil restoration, market gardening, management, Kolwezi.

Rhizoctonia spp. associated with rooibos in the Western Cape province of South Africa were recovered during the 2008 season by planting seedlings in rhizosphere soils collected from 14 rooibos nurseries. In all, 75 Rhizoctonia isolates were obtained, of which 67 were multinucleate and 8 were binucleate Rhizoctonia spp. The identity of these isolates to anastomosis group (AG) was determined through sequence analysis of the ribosomal DNA internal transcribed spacer region. The collection of multinucleate isolates included representatives of AG-2-2 (67%), AG-4 HGI (14%), AG-11 (5%), and R. zeae (3%). Binucleate AGs included AG-Bo (4%) and AG-K (4%) and an unidentified binucleate Rhizoctonia (3%). Rhizoctonia solani AG-2-2 was the most widely distributed species of Rhizoctonia detected among the 11 nurseries sampled. All AGs recovered from rooibos have been previously reported on crop plants in South Africa, with the exception of R. zeae. However, this is the first study to classify the Rhizoctonia AGs recovered from rooibos. In glasshouse bioassays, the most virulent Rhizoctonia AGs on rooibos and lupin were AG-2-2, AG-4 HGI, and AG-11. Although plant damage was less than that observed for lupin and rooibos, oat was significantly affected by AG-2-2 and AG-4 HGI. Two composts sourced from independent suppliers were evaluated for disease suppression under glasshouse conditions. Compost amendment suppressed damping-off by most R. solani AGs, except for AG-4 HGI. Furthermore, within AG-2-2, suppression by compost was isolate specific.

Compost micro-entrepreneurship has been used as strategy to increase the incomes of poor and rural farming communities. Nevertheless, several difficulties can arise to sustain these small businesses. The conversion of organic material into compost requires labor, tools and infrastructure. Many poor and rural microenterprises cannot afford all of these inputs to sustain operations. Literature suggests that social capital and collective action can address challenges related to limited resources for communities and small businesses. Little research, however, has explored how coworker characteristics and their cooperative efforts affect the financial sustainability of compost micro-enterprises. The objective of this study was to unveil whether rural compost microenterprises use social capital and/or collective action to address various challenges related to natural and financial capital, and if so, in what manner. A multisite case study framework was implemented using participant observation to identify common challenges faced by compost microenterprises in Chimaltenanago, Guatemala. Focus groups and semi-structured interviews were conducted to determine if coworker characteristics (related to social capital) addressed these challenges, and if so, how. Four characteristics related to social capital emerged from a thematic analysis, including 1) raw material access based on coworker occupation, 2) overhead savings from human capital, 3) credit/market-entry granted from social networks, and 4) consumer trust gained from social capital/gender. It appears the investigation and development of compost microenterprises should be more cognizant of opportunities related to coworker characteristics, especially those related to social capital and collective action. As a result, management training can be integrated within entrepreneurship development to sustain urban and rural economies.

The objective of the current study was to examine cutinolytic esterase (i.e., cutinase) activity by pseudomonads and bacteria isolated from mixed-plant compost. Approximately 400 isolates representing 52 taxa recovered from mixed-plant compost using cuticle baits, along with 117 pseudomonad isolates obtained from a culture collection (i.e., non-compost habitats), were evaluated. The ability of isolates to degrade the synthetic cutin polycaprolactone (PCL) was initially measured. Isolates from 23 taxa recovered from the compost degraded PCL. As well, isolates from 13 taxa of pseudomonads cleared PCL. Secondary screening measured esterase activity induced by the presence of apple cuticle using the chromogenic substrate p-nitrophenyl butyrate. Eighteen isolates representing four taxa ( Alcaligenes faecalis , Bacillus licheniformis , Bacillus pumilus , and Pseudomonas pseudoalcaligenes ) recovered from compost exhibited substantial esterase activity when grown with cuticle. In contrast, none of the pseudomonad isolates from the culture collection produced appreciable esterase activity. Although degradation of PCL was not correlated with esterase activity, isolates that were unable to degrade PCL failed to produce measureable esterase activities. Zymogram analysis indicated that the esterases produced by bacteria from compost ranged in size from 29 to 47 kDa. A gene from P. pseudoalcaligenes (cutA) was found to code for a cutin-induced esterase consisting of 302 amino acids and a theoretical protein size of 32 kDa. The enzyme was unique and was most closely related to other bacterial lipases (≤48% similarity).

Due to the Earth’s population rapid growth and the modern lifestyle, the urban waste creation rate constantly increases.Organic waste, which forms a significant part of municipal solid waste, has caused increasing environmental concerns. Recycling is the only way to make a sustainable environment. According to estimations from the United States Environmental Protection Agency, around 24 percent of the total waste can be composted. Instead, most of it is land filled and incinerated. By composting organic waste,we can preserve resources and produce a valuable by-product that can be used as a locally produced fertilizer. In this paper, we propose a solution: a low-cost and effective Smart Compost Bin that utilizes modern technologies, such as environmental sensors and the LoRaWAN protocol to assist with the compost process.A centralized Information System collects measurements from smart bins that can be deployed anywhere and can further assist with the waste collection process. We have performed several experiments with our smart bin prototype, evaluated its efficiency and concluded that it is a feasible solution.

<p>Municipal solid waste (MSW) management in developing countries is facing many challenges. Most MSW is disposed of in landfill areas that are uncontrolled and overloaded. Under budget constraints, the governments encourage residents in rural areas to treat municipal organic waste (MOW) by themselves. Evidence from Hoi An, Vietnam has shown the potential for residents practicing MOW treatment at the source which may divert large quantities of biodegradable waste away from landfills. Logistic regression analysis showed that various factors influence residents treating MOW by themselves, including the gender of the person in charge of waste management, household size, presence of garden, type of city collection methods, care of collectors, and participation in compost training. Several factors are largely insignificant, including age, household income, number of children less than 15 years old, schooling years, and potential for high collection fees in the near future. The results further suggested that local authorities should encourage residents to practice MOW treatment at the source by enhancing the role of local women’ groups, gardening clubs, composting training classes, and paying attention to communal collectors’ roles.</p>

Abstract Plant Breeding and Acclimatization Institute - National Research Institute (IHAR-PIB) is responsible for pathotype identification of Synchytrium endobioticum isolates collecting from Poland. Pathogenicity tests are carried out using the Glynne-Lemmerzahl method, according to EPPO Standard PM 7/28. Pathotypes are defined based on their reaction to a range of well-characterized differential cultivars of potato. Assessment of one isolate of the fungus requires more than 20 differential cultivars. All pathotypes of S. endobioticum from Polish reference collection are multiplied and maintained (fresh warts) on tubers of extremely susceptible cultivars continuously. For all references pathotypes and isolates of S. endobioticum, the compost with winter sporangia are prepared for long-term of maintenance.

AbstractThe practice of composting mixed green wastes from community collection programs has been on the increase as a means to reduce organic debris to landfills. Recent reports of plant injury have appeared and were attributed to residues of the herbicide clopyralid in compost. Phytotoxicity issues with compost have been reported previously to result from other factors, including heavy metal content, soluble salts, organic acids and oxygen deprivation related to incomplete decomposition. The recent reports of plant injury due to clopyralid-contaminated compost were also associated with very heavy applications of compost, yet few of these reports included observations of herbicide symptomology. Since immature compost may contain sufficient degradation intermediates, soluble salts and other contaminants to cause phytotoxicity, particularly when applied at heavy rates, an effort must be made to distinguish confounding factors. Complete composting normally allows for the degradation of phytotoxic intermediates and synthetic compounds, such as herbicides, as well as allowing for leaching of salts. Absence of compost completeness standards within the compost industry leaves such factors to the guesswork of the end-user. Recommended compost use rates have established a relationship between compost maturity, application rate and use pattern, based on compost quality metrics. Greater attention to the use of high-quality compost, properly designated as to completeness of composting and applied at appropriate use rates, would minimize the potential for phytotoxic effects, irrespective of the contributing source.

A manually operated earthworm-cum-compost separator was designed, developed, and evaluated. The machine consisted of a separating unit, collecting tray, feed hopper, operating handle, sieving unit, and transporting wheels in order to separate the compost and earthworms from the compost material of vermin-culture. The rotating action of the cylinder caused the compost present in the vermi-culture to get separated at the sieving unit on the basis of size and the difference in specific gravity of clods and earthworms causing their separation at the discharge flume of the machine. The separator functioned properly as there was no damage caused to the earthworms. The throughput capacity, compost separation efficiency, earthworm separation efficiency, and overall efficiency were 600 kg.h-1, 88.25%, 96.02% and 84.54%, respectively, at 20.47% (w.b.) moisture contents of vermicast, 23 rpm cylinder speed, and 9° cylinder inclination angle.

AbstractThere are more than 522 towns and cities in Bangladesh, which generate thousands of tons of solid waste known as Municipal Solid Waste. Low collection coverage and disposal facilities are responsible for unsatisfactory waste management. The composting technology is a good alternative method for managing MSW. The present study was conducted to assess the quality of the MSW compost produced from the solid wastes of Mymensingh Pourashava. For quality assessment physical, chemical and biological properties of prepared compost namelye bulk density, porosity, water-holding capacity, moisture content, pH, organic matter content, C:N ratio, NPKS content, buffering capacity, soluble salts content, heavy metal content and the presence of harmful organisms in the MSW compost were studied. The results indicated that the MSW compost was matured and stable having pH 7.3 and buffering capacity of the MSW compost were good but the organic matter content and C : N (14.5) ratio were low. The N, P, K and S content of the MSW compost were 0.9, 0.3, 0.4 and 0.45 percent of the total volume. The soluble salts content and heavy metal content of the compost were found to be within the permissible limits. The MSW compost contained no E. coli and Salmonella. From the results, it can be concluded that, the composting could produce acceptable quality of compost, which can be used as fertilizer or soil amendment.

AbstractAs a student of Zoltán Kodály and Béla Bartók, but also a close collaborator of László Lajtha at the Hungarian Ethnographic Museum in Budapest, and later of Béla Bartók at Folk Department of the Hungarian Academy of Science, Sándor Veress followed the path of his masters regarding the relation with folklore music. In 1930, he undertook an expedition in Moldavia, Romania, to collect music from the Csángó population, a small Hungarian speaking community, of catholic faith, living in the east of the Carpathian Mountains. In the seven villages he has visited, he collected, with the help of the phonograph, 138 folk songs on 57 wax cylinders, taking in the same time around 60 pictures and documenting the whole expedition in a journal. Following this journey, during the 30’s, Sándor Veress not only transcribed and analyzed the entire material, but also selected some of the melodies and used them as theme for his own choir arrangements and chamber music compositions.

Доказывается, что создание композиторского союза изначально не было обусловлено стремлением государственных институтов к управлению творческой интеллигенцией в рамках единой организации. Инициатива принадлежала самим композиторам, выступавшим за профессиональное объединение, учитывающим советские реалии и соглашавшимся на компромисс с идеологическими требованиями государственных институтов в обмен на их организационную и финансовую поддержку. Публикуются Уставы и Декларация композиторских организаций 1915–1918 годов. Приводятся новые сведения о выстраивании концертной, просветительской, издательской, библиотечной деятельности, о начале формирования системы авторского права в интересах композиторского сообщества; всё это заложило фундамент для функционирования будущего Союза советских композиторов СССР. Работа «Коллектива профессиональных композиторов» рассматривается в тесной связи с деятельностью Ассоциации современной музыки, которая унаследовала многие направления, сложившиеся в работе «Коллектива». Подчеркивается, что главные отличия «Коллектива» от будущего Союза советских композиторов СССР заключались в профессиональной состоятельности его членов, терпимости к индивидуальному творческому поиску, сосредоточенности на решении творческих и материальных проблем. It is proved that creation of the composers, union was not initially due to the desire of state institutions to manage the creative intelligentsia within a single organization. This is explained mainly by practical implementation of the initiative of the composers themselves, who stood for a professional association, taking into account Soviet realities and agreeing to the compromise with the ideological requirements of state institutions in exchange for their organizational and financial support. The Charters and Declarations of different Composers, Organizations of the period 1915–1918 are published. The article provides information about formation of concert, educational, publishing and library activities, formation of the copyright system in the interests of the composer community, which laid the foundation for the functioning of the future Union of Soviet Composers of the USSR. The work of the “Collective of Professional Composers” is considered in close connection with the activities of the Association of Contemporary Music, which has inherited many trends that developed in the work of the “Collective”. It is emphasized that the main difference between the “Collective” and the future Union of Soviet Composers of the USSR is represented in the following factors: professional competence of its members, tolerance for individual creative search, focus on creative and material problem solving. It is proved that the initiators and practical performers of this historical initiative for the composer community were the generation of 1870–1880, Nikolay Ya. Myaskovsky playing a special role in the exceptional undertaking for the development of Russian musical culture.

ABSTRACT The 3R Waste Management Center is located in the Pondok Pekayon Indah housing complex RW 011 Pekayon Jaya sub district, South Bekasi sub district, which is protected by the Environmental Care Movement Foundation, a foundation that has been composting organic waste since 2003. Composting is a process in which organic matter is decomposed biologically, especially by microbes that use organic matter as an energy source. Making compost is to regulate and control this natural process so that compost can form more quickly. The stages of composting carried out by the Environmental Care Movement Foundation include; Garbage collection, waste sorting or sorting, First Enumeration, Transfer and Addition of EM-4 Activator, Fermentation Stage, Second Enumeration, Screening or Screening, Packaging and Storage. The compost produced by the Environmental Care Movement Foundation has been tested by the Laboratory of the Department of Soil Science and Land Resources, Faculty of Agriculture, IPB since 2015 issued by the Sanitation Service of the Bekasi City Government. This is an added value for compost made by the Environmental Care Movement Foundation, because the results of laboratory tests can convince people who will use or even buy compost made by the Environmental Care Movement Foundation. Thus, the compost fertilizer business opportunity for the community (sociopreneurship) is very wide open because the quality of the compost is guaranteed.

Speech acts composes a big part of language; it is one of the bases of pragmatics, it can be defined as the use of language to make things happen in the world. The aim of the study is to investigate the strategies of the speech act of criticism in Kurdish. One hundred twenty undergraduate native Kurdish speaking students were selected as a sample for the study. The students were of different majors, sexes and social classes. Discourse Completion Test (DCT) approach is adopted in collecting the data which has 10 scenarios. The test has been carried out at Salahaddin and Koya universities. After the data collection, strategies of criticizing have been classified in terms of Nguyen 2005 model. The results of the investigation show that Kurds would rather employ indirect strategies than direct strategies to give criticism.

The career of William Babell (1688–1723), an English composer of German birth, has recently been reassessed by me following identification of a manuscript source in Bergamo, which appears to be a collection of his harpsichord music. The manuscript shows he was an important keyboard composer active in Britain immediately prior to the publication of Handel's Suites de Pieces pour le Clavecin (1720), and it has provided insights into his working methods. The major items – eleven substantial toccatas mostly in prelude–fugue form together with two suites – are replete with the cadenza-like passagework familiar from his arrangements of arias from operas produced at the Haymarket Theatre between 1706 and 1714, which were published in three collections in his lifetime (in 1709, 1711 and 1717). They also reveal the range of influences on his keyboard style, illustrating how he adapted material from music by French, Italian, German and English composers. Though the source is not an autograph, it was copied towards the end of Babell's life by an individual close to him, to judge from the large number of pencil corrections that appear to be the composer's own. The manuscript therefore has biographical implications, suggesting that there was a composer-supervised project to bring together his keyboard music, perhaps in order to prepare some of it for publication, which never saw completion.

The high economic value of ylang-ylang oil has encouraged some entrepreneurs to develop ylang-ylang plants in Indonesia, especially in terms of increasing productivity. The objectives of this research were to analyze the effect of two types of commercial compost and identify optimal dosage for the growth of ylang-ylang seedlings. The research was carried out through several stages, e.g. the procurement of seeds, weaning, maintenance, collecting and retrieving data, experimental design, hypothesis and data analysis. The research revealed that the use of two types of compost, with four doses used significantly affects the height parameter of the ylang-ylang seedlings. This article aims to study the effect of different time intervals for bed maturation in compost sheds for dairy cattle, such as organic manure in maize crop for silage. The experimental design was a randomized block in split-plot with five treatments, six collection times, and five replicates. The data were submitted to variance analysis and compared by Scott-Knott. Sigmoid functions of logistic growth were adjusted to the data. The treatments with addition of fresh and mature compost with nitrogen cover showed higher shoot dry matter production when compared to treatments without compost. For maize plant height, stalk diameter and number of leaves, it was observed that from 35 days after plant germination, these variables were considered superior for the treatments that received bedding. The sigmoid function was proper to represent the plant growth to the silage point. It is concluded that the use of bedding from compost sheds as an organic manure is recommended as a sustainable alternative in the reuse of waste from milk production.

AbstractThis study examined the response of forage crops to composted dairy waste (compost) applied at low rates and investigated effects on soil health. The evenness of spreading compost by commercial machinery was also assessed. An experiment was established on a commercial dairy farm with target rates of compost up to 5 t ha−1applied to a field containing millet [Echinochloa esculenta(A. Braun) H. Scholz] and Pasja leafy turnip (Brassicahybrid). A pot experiment was also conducted to monitor the response of a legume forage crop (vetch;Vicia sativaL.) on three soils with equivalent rates of compost up to 20 t ha−1with and without ‘additive blends’ comprising gypsum, lime or other soil treatments. Few significant increases in forage biomass were observed with the application of low rates of compost in either the field or pot experiment. In the field experiment, compost had little impact on crop herbage mineral composition, soil chemical attributes or soil fungal and bacterial biomass. However, small but significant increases were observed in gravimetric water content resulting in up to 22.4 mm of additional plant available water calculated in the surface 0.45 m of soil, 2 years after compost was applied in the field at 6 t ha−1dried (7.2 t ha−1undried), compared with the nil control. In the pot experiment, where the soil was homogenized and compost incorporated into the soil prior to sowing, there were significant differences in mineral composition in herbage and in soil. A response in biomass yield to compost was only observed on the sandier and lower fertility soil type, and yields only exceeded that of the conventional fertilizer treatment where rates equivalent to 20 t ha−1were applied. With few yield responses observed, the justification for applying low rates of compost to forage crops and pastures seems uncertain. Our collective experience from the field and the glasshouse suggests that farmers might increase the response to compost by: (i) increasing compost application rates; (ii) applying it prior to sowing a crop; (iii) incorporating the compost into the soil; (iv) applying only to responsive soil types; (v) growing only responsive crops; and (vi) reducing weed burdens in crops following application. Commercial machinery incorporating a centrifugal twin disc mechanism was shown to deliver double the quantity of compost in the area immediately behind the spreader compared with the edges of the spreading swathe. Spatial variability in the delivery of compost could be reduced but not eliminated by increased overlapping, but this might represent a potential 20% increase in spreading costs.

Depuis le 1er janvier 1994, Québec s'est doté d'un nouveau Code civil qui établit, en harmonie avec les chartes, le droit commun applicable aux rapports entre les personnes. Ainsi se pose la question de l'harmonisation de ces règles à celles qui régissent les rapports particuliers entre employeurs, syndicats et salariés. La question est d'autant plus intéressante que ce nouveau Code civil traite directement de la relation de travail et qu'il ne comporte aucune réserve à l'endroit du Code du travail et des conventions collectives. L'arrivée de ce nouveau Code civil imposera une délicate gestion des conflits de droit en raison de l'inévitable rencontre de ces deux codes, Code civil et Code du travail, et de leur acte respectif, le contrat de travail et la convention collective.
