Abstract Despite the longstanding federal mandate to place students with disabilities in general education classrooms to the maximum extent appropriate, most students with intellectual disability continue to spend most of their time in separate classrooms and schools. In this study, we describe longitudinal educational placement patterns in six states that represent the wide span of educational placement (i.e., Vermont, Kentucky, Kansas, Massachusetts, Illinois, and Montana). Surprisingly, some states are trending toward more restrictive placements, and the gap between the most and least inclusive states is continuing to widen over time. We offer constructive suggestions for appropriately applying the principle of least restrictive environment so that placement decisions are driven by student needs and not where students live.

Placement is an important constrained optimization problem in the design of very large scale (VLSI) integrated circuits [1–4]. Simulated annealing [5] and min-cut placement [6] are two of the most successful approaches to the placement problem. Min-cut methods yield less congested and more routable placements at the expense of more wire-length, while simulated annealing methods tend to optimize more the total wire-length with little emphasis on the minimization of congestion. It is also well known that min-cut algorithms are substantially faster than simulated-annealing-based methods. In this paper, a fast min-cut algorithm (ROW-PLACE) for row-based placement is presented and is empirically shown to achieve simulated-annealing-quality wire-length on a number of benchmark circuits. In comparison with Timberwolf 6 [7], ROW-PLACE is at least 12 times faster in its normal mode and is at least 25 times faster in its faster mode. The good results of ROW-PLACE are achieved using a very effective clustering-based partitioning algorithm in combination with constructive methods that reduce the wire-length of nets involved in terminal propagation.

Building computer models of dynamic canal surfaces is a special case when implemented in CAD-systems since existing methods of surface modeling of such type are concentrated mostly on obtaining analytical expressions such as equations for the surface itself or its sections. The article introduces a constructive method of building models based on plane and spatial geometric constructions. The paper provides the analysis of given surface parameters, constructive algorithms for setting up a geometric correspondence between the graph of the cross-sectional area and the directrix, constructing of cross-section for the given point on the cross-section area graph as well as placement the cross-sections in three dimensions and determining spatial coordinates of the points on the surface. This allows to build a structured point cloud of a dynamic canal surface of required density and build a model of it in CAD-systems. Suggested constructive algorithms are applied with the help of GC language commands. The paper provides fragments of construction subroutines as well as examples of created models of dynamic canal surfaces. The approach proposed provides for automation of building models of surfaces in CAD-systems, moreover it is flexible to adjust according to the given parameters such as a directrix shape, cross-section area graph, a cross-section shape, etc.

Purpose In order to prepare new members of the education profession, it is imperative that teachers enter their classrooms with the confidence, knowledge, and skills to serve their students from day one. One method for preparing such teacher candidates or student teachers is through school-based field placements during their preparation program. The purpose of this paper is to describe one example of a yearlong field placement and the mentoring relationships that emerged among participants. Design/methodology/approach This qualitative study used the following data sources: focus group interviews among the teacher candidates, focus group interviews among the mentor teachers, field placement reflections and teaching analyses composed by the teacher candidates, and interviews conducted among teacher candidates and mentor teachers. Findings Analysis of the data revealed that the yearlong field placement promoted positive mentoring relationships between teacher candidates and their classroom teachers. Specifically the following themes emerged: the “adoption” of teacher candidates into the high school classrooms, risk-taking within the classrooms, the mentor teachers’ use of constructive feedback, and collaborative “mentoring-down-the-hall.” Originality/value In recent years, various scholars have investigated the impact of field placement experiences on teacher candidates; however, these studies have lacked a detailed analysis of how such experiences impacted mentoring relationships among candidates and their mentor teachers in a collaborative setting. This paper provides an in-depth study of the perceived experiences of mentor teachers and their candidates.

Two-dimensional bin packing is encountered in various applications where small rectangular items are packed into a minimum number of large rectangular objects (bins). Aiming at an optimal area utilization, the paper presents an effective constructive heuristic approach to two-dimensional bin packing. The heuristic approach integrates ranking, placement and search strategies along with an effective handling method of the remaining areas during the packing process. In order to obtain an optimal arrangement in a given area, all items are examined for possible positions and orientations using the search strategies. In addition, an effective handling method of the remaining areas is applied through appropriate partitioning and merging to minimize waste areas. Tests with a number of standard test and real world instances have shown that the performance of the proposed approach is superior to that of other approaches published.

The paper considers a co-evolutionary algorithm for solving the placement problem based on the ant colony algorithm. A modified structure of the ant algorithm is proposed. An evolving population is divided into subpopulations that evolve in parallel. The strategies implemented by subpopulations differ in constructive algorithms that are part of the ant algorithm. The heuristic of the ant colony constructive algorithm is based on the concept of sequential assignment of elements to previously placed positions of the commutation field. The developed algorithm was tested on benchmarks 19s, PrimGA1, PrimGA2. The results compared to existing algorithms are improved by 6—7 %. The total time complexity of the co-evolutionary allocation algorithm is O(n2)—O(n3).

In this paper we consider the operator mapping problem for in-network stream processing applications. In-network stream processing consists in applying a tree of operators in steady-state to multiple data objects that are continually updated at various locations on a network. Examples of in-network stream processing include the processing of data in a sensor network, or of continuous queries on distributed relational databases. We study the operator mapping problem in a "constructive" scenario, i.e., a scenario in which one builds a platform dedicated to the application by purchasing processing servers with various costs and capabilities. The objective is to minimize the cost of the platform while ensuring that the application achieves a minimum steady-state throughput. The first contribution of this paper is the formalization of a set of relevant operator-placement problems, and a proof that even simple versions of the problem are NP-complete. Our second contribution is the design of several polynomial time heuristics, which are evaluated via extensive simulations and compared to theoretical bounds for optimal solutions.

The paper "Potential and prospects of placement of preschool educational institutions in the difficult terrain conditions in the context of the South of Ukraine" spotlights terrain characteristics of the South of Ukraine, identifies physical and geographical features of the southern regions, analyses terrain characteristics of Odessa, Dnipropetrovsk (Sichelavskiy), Kherson, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhya regions and also territories of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol. The land fund condition of the south of Ukraine is considered in the paper and the analysis of the functional distribution of lands is given. The landforms of the southern Ukraine were identified in the paper, among which the most common were coastal slopes of water bodies (Black and Azov seas, large rivers, etcetera ) and mountains located on the territory of the Crimean peninsula, hills, ravines, gullies and other landforms. The classification of difficult terrains by the shape of the earth's surface unevenness and slopes treated in the paper. The potential, advantages and disadvantages of placing kindergartens on the territories with a difficult topography of the southern region of Ukraine are considered based on comparative analysis of 33 preschool educational institutions, placed on a difficult terrain. It is shown that the eight main factors affect on the formation of preschool educational institutions on a difficult terrain: The natural-geographical factor, including the totality of natural features, which are characteristic of the territory where the preschool educational institution is being places, can include: terrain features (slope steepness, shape, elevation difference, altitude according to Baltic Normal Height System, etcetera), the soil composition in the design area and their tendency to erosion and landslides, climatic features of the design area, and a number of other factors. The socio-demographic factor is characterized by quantitative-qualitative composition of the population in the design area, distribution by age and gender, social status, economic well- being. This factor is the main one in assessing the needs of residents in access to preschool, which determines the number of new preschool educational institutions, also it helps to identify potential places for their placement, and can be used in calculating the number of places and the composition of the premises in the preschool institution. The safety factor, when buildings and structures of preschool educational institutions are located in areas with a difficult terrain, affect on the choice of finishing and building materials (the use of non-slip, safety materials that meet the sanitary and hygienic standards, fire safety require-ments, the use of safety fences, necessary heights and types, in areas with a sharp difference in heights, etcetera), as well as for planning decisions (placement of inclusive cells for groups on a relative but equal parts of the site, minimizing the number of steps in terraced type of accommodation, and other planning decisions). The economic factor during the erection must include increasing in the cost of construc- tion and its complexity in connection with terrain characteristics. The negative impact of this factor can be partially eliminated by reducing the plot of land cost, as well as the possibility of ration-alizing the site development ( the usage of types of placement with a minimum amount of land work, compact construction, the usage of additional area due to operated roof) and more. The constructive factor affects the rational selection of the constructive scheme and the choice of constructive decisions, when the building is located on a plot with a difficult topography. The aesthetic factor should take into account the geometry specificities and terrain charac- teristics, and maximize the usage of their potential in creating a holistic architectural and artistic image of the building, also should create a harmonious and comfortable environment for the peda- gogical process, positively affect on the child’s emotional state and encourage him or her to ex- plore the world. The environmental factor should be taken into account, while making architectural deci- sions and contribute to the creation of an environmentally safe and energy-efficient environment for preschool children. The factors of inclusion provide access for people with limited mobility to preschool edu- cational institution. The classification of the placement types of preschool educational institutions, which are placed on difficult terrains, is considered in the paper. Six placement types were identified: flat, terraced, dipped, on construction supports, cantilevered and integrated.Four main methods of formation of the space-planning structure of preschool education institu- tions, placed on a difficult terrain, have been developed, based on the preschool educational institutions formation factors and placement types: 1) Modifications. This technique involves a significant modification of land lots and greatly changes the appearance and geometry of the terrain, includes a lot of excavations, but it does not require the usage of special construction solutions. The following method refers to these types of placement: flat, terraced. 2) Integration. While using this technique, it is assumed that the building of preschool educa- tion institution is maximally integrated into the landscape, which ensures better energy ef- ficiency and environmental friendliness of the object. The usage of this technique involves excavations in combination with more complex construction solutions s than while using the "modification" technique. The following method refers to these types of placement: in- depth, integrated 3) The method of difficult terrain bypassing. It provides for the maximum avoidance of the most difficult sections of the terrain, using the form of plan or construction solutions (plac- ing buildings on construction supports above negative terrain, using cantilever, cable- stayed structures, tunnels, etcetera). Using this technique allows to minimize the amount of excavations, but it requires special construction solutions. The following method refers to these types of placement: cantilever and on construction supports. 4) The method of combination. The method is a combination of the mentioned above methods of forming a space-planning structure to optimize the project, to ensure maximum efficien- cy in the plot of land usage, to select the most economical and effective constructive meth- ods and create a unique architectural and artistic image of a preschool educational institu- tion. The use of territories with difficult a terrain for placing a preschool educational institution, in the context of the South of Ukraine, is possible if nessecary to place a preschool institution in the existing urban planning conditions, in which there are no vacant land lots with a sufficient square, or while creating a new residential area on territories, which have land lots with a difficult terrain. The following types of preschool education institutions have the biggest potential among the other ones for placing on territories with a difficult terrain in context of the south of Ukraine: 1. Preschool education institution with medium and large holding capacity, located on land lots of moderate complexity within the mountainous territories of the Crimean peninsula, on positive, circular landforms with soil stability (hilly areas within the Southern Ukraine). The main formation methods of space-planning structure are - modification and combina- tion. Main types of placing: terraced and flat. 2. Ecological preschool education institutions with small and medium holding capacity, locat- ed on the coastal slopes of water bodies. These institutions have great recreational poten- tial, and harmonically match the surrounding terrain. The main formation method of space- planning structure is – integration. 3. Preschool education institutions with a variety of holding capacities with unique construc- tion decisions. The main formation methods of space-planning structure are – combination and the method of difficult terrain bypassing. The paper includes 2 pictures and 1 table.

Combining global and local search is a strategy used by many successful hybrid optimization approaches. Memetic Algorithms (MAs) are Evolutionary Algorithms (EAs) that apply some sort of local search to further improve the fitness of individuals in the population. Memetic Algorithms have been shown to be very effective in solving many hard combinatorial optimization problems. This paper provides a forum for identifying and exploring the key issues that affect the design and application of Memetic Algorithms. The approach combines a hierarchical design technique, Genetic Algorithms, constructive techniques and advanced local search to solve VLSI circuit layout in the form of circuit partitioning and placement. Results obtained indicate that Memetic Algorithms based on local search, clustering and good initial solutions improve solution quality on average by 35% for the VLSI circuit partitioning problem and 54% for the VLSI standard cell placement problem.

Stereotomy, as a constructive technique, has a millennial history that has been optimized over time due to the development of geometry and construction . Using mainly stones specially limestone the stereotomic design takes advantage of the subdivision of solid big structures into smaller different pieces, named ´voussoirs´. These pieces are limited in forms and they work through the assembly of multiple units to create the final structure. Precision in the cuts and the correct placement of each part is crucial to ensure static and structural safety. The development of digital technology which has been taking place through the last decades re-ignited the interest in the use of stones as an essential material to buildings structures. As a result, many experiences took place mixing the use of stones with computerized and manufactoring techniques that , in turn, boost the industry of stone cutting. This paper presents information on the use of stereotomic design through the centuries, focusing on its evolution as a technique and on the results that are showing out in contemporary architecture. Through an analysis of the recovery of stone as a constructive and structural material, it is the aim of this study to establish a general panorama on the results achieved in the field of architecture and design in order to understand the methodologies applied when using the stereotomic technique.

Relevance. One of the main directions of development of mobile communication systems, radio engineering and telecommunication systems is the improvement of the structural form of the bearing supports, which will solve a number of practical tasks: to increase the coverage area, to ensure higher rates of data transmission speed and to ensure stable operation in an increasing number of users. These circumstances justify the relevance of research in this direction. Aims of research. Optimization of design solutions using parallel puffs, ensuring the possibility of erection and safe operation during the entire service life, which ensures that the requirements for strength, stability and deformations for such structures are met with minimal material consumption. Methods. For calculations, finite element methods are used for mathematical modeling using software and computing systems. To create linear models for numerical experiments, the method of mathematical planning of experiments was used. Results. The work of the towers of the proposed constructive solution is considered as supports for the placement of equipment of cellular operators using the example of a 42-meter tower. The method of mathematical planning of experiments was used to create a model line for numerical experiments. To establish the basic characteristics of the stress-strain state of the structures of the supports, a number of models were created and calculated in software packages, the basis of which is the finite element method. A comparative analysis of the effort in the delays determined by analytical calculation and the finite element method is performed. The analysis of changes in the stress-strain state of the towers from the influence of influencing factors, such as wind and icy-wind loads, the angle of deflection on the lower tier of the tower. By the criterion of minimum metal consumption and manufacturability of the construction of towers, rational overall dimensions of the tower were determined. The options for constructing the main junctions of the elements of the tower are proposed.

AbstractThe Pontificia Universidad Católica Del Ecuador, through its architecture school, maintains innovation in design and the use of last generation technology in its teaching emphasis. One of them focuses on the use of BIM tools in their different guidelines. The present research is addressed to digital development of parametric modelling (PM), used with an architectural BIM software through the development of structural connections, which allows tie diverse technical-constructive-elements, function, and materiality [1]. Ecuador is located directly above the Pacific Ring of Fire and the Andes range cross it entirely, representing an elevated seismic risk. This situation knows that structural systems in edifications should be basic premises considering within an architectural design, whose purpose is to decrease construction vulnerability and increase security for the habitants. Due to cultural, natural, and climatological diversity of Ecuador, the country has developed diverse materiality, technologies and architectural typologies to generate living spaces. For those reasons, the research proposes a parametric design methodology of structural connections between constructive components, where the union not only meets its structural function, but also includes an architectural-compositive element that emphasizes functional and formal aspects of the design project [2]. The applied methodology implies a researching work where the student understands the five basic concepts of forces that affect to structures: tension, compression, shear, torsion and traction [3]. The second phase involves the exploration of general function of structural connections, focused on the development of constructive details where are considered technical and formal aspects of the architectural project. The knowledge related to materiality is part of the process: characteristics, properties, benefits and limitations of steel, wood and concrete, used in an independent or combined way. The objective is to link the concepts reviewed previously and apply them in a structural connection in order to build it and as the same time, develop a formal and functional input of the architectural project. Therefore, the practice of parametrization with a last generation BIM software allows using and visualizing different projection planes in two and three dimensions to understand the structural connections and possible interferences of the constructive components in the space [4]. The result of this methodology is the generation of a constructive detail about a structural connection with diverse materials, making it functional, buildable and replicable. Those conditions will allow multiple dimensional adjustments, adaptability to the project requirements and the correct use of local construction materials. The constructive detail will be developed and studied in an architectural BIM software, in order to be properly included in the student´s design project. The accurate methodology to be developed in the current research implies that each student has to model all of the constructive components of the structural connection detail in AUTODESK REVIT 2020, with the intention of ensure a correct work, adaptability and placement of all of its diverse constructive elements in the project [5] [6].

An external three component strain gauge balance, designed, analyzed and manufactured in the Military Technical Academy is presented. The balance is a multi-piece type and employs the use of six custom-made load cells (sensors) to transfer the aerodynamic forces and moments from the wing to the computer software environment for data processing and analysis. The relations between the loads acting on the wing model and the measured forces are also underlined. The placement of the strain gauge on the composite laminate is an important issue for increased sensor precision; therefore, it is given a thorough analysis. The positioning of the force vector and its influence on the strain distribution over the lift sensor is also numerically and experimentally analyzed.

Teaching perspectives in initial teacher education are useful analytical tools for exploring the development of professional identity and the supervisory practices of cooperating teachers working with preservice teachers on school placement. A case study design was employed with an experienced physical education teacher newly appointed as a cooperating teacher to a cohort of three physical education preservice teachers to examine how his professional identity was challenged by the demands of the new role as a mentor. Data were collected throughout a one-year school placement and included three semi-structured interviews and the cooperating teacher’s weekly journal entries. Analysis was informed by grounded theory coding procedures. Open codes were collapsed into three metaphorical axial themes: (a) the chameleon, (b) a tailor-made cooperating teacher, and (c) the liaison of relations. To perform his new role as a cooperating teacher and surpass the emergent supervisory challenges in developing a pedagogical relationship with his first cohort of preservice teachers, the cooperating teacher called upon his educational perspectives on teaching physical education built on constructive, collaborative and inquiry premises, but ended up practising teaching perspectives echoing an apprenticeship model due to the preservice teachers’ personal characteristics.

ObjectiveTo study medical students’ views and experiences of the benefits and influences regarding a mentoring programme aimed at preparing them for future practice as a doctor during their Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) placement in a UK teaching hospital.DesignA qualitative approach, employing focus groups and thematic analysis.SettingSingle-centre UK Teaching hospital.ParticipantsThirteen undergraduate medical students at the University of Southampton who had completed their standard 8-week placement in O&G and had been assigned a mentor throughout.Main outcome measuresMedical students’ experiences and perceptions of the benefits and influences of having a mentor throughout their O&G placement.ResultsFrom our data, four central themes were identified: integration, feedback, seniority and expectations. Students found mentorship useful for integration into the team, and an opportunity for constructive feedback on their clinical skills and professional skills for example, communication and team-working. Seniority and the level of contact of their mentor was the main reason for differing mentoring experiences: although senior mentors spent less time with their mentees, they were able to offer more careers advice. Students felt that the mentors and mentees were not always clear on the expectations of the mentoring programme.ConclusionsMentorship may be a useful addition to help prepare students for future clinical practice. Mentor training may improve consistency of experiences. This study demonstrates that a mentoring programme is deliverable and widely accepted by medical students in a clinical placement such as O&G, and may have wider benefits if introduced on a regional/national level.

Wind energy is becoming an attractive source of clean energy. However, this type of power source is subject to power reductions due to losses in wind energy conversion system and to frequent changes in wind velocity. For that reason, the important phase of a wind farm design is solving the wind farm layout optimization problem, which consists in optimally positioning the turbines within the wind farm so that the wake effects are minimized and therefore the expected power production is maximized. This problem has been receiving increasing attention from the scientific community. In this article, a mathematical optimization scheme is employed to optimize the locations of wind turbines with respect to maximizing the wind farm power production. To formulate the mathematical optimization problem, we used Jensen’s wake model. We calculate the wake loss and express the expected wind farm power as a differentiable function in terms of the locations of the wind turbines. Furthermore, we develop a new constructive approach to find the best solution to the wind turbines placement problem. Finally, our results are compared with those in some other ealier studies.

The facility layout approaches can generally be classified into two groups, constructive approaches and improvement approaches. All improvement procedures require an initial solution which has a significant impact on final solution. In this paper, we introduce a new technique for accruing an initial placement of facilities on extended plane. It is obtained by graph theoretic facility layout approaches and graph drawing algorithms. To evaluate the performance, this initial solution is applied to rectangular facility layout problem. The solution is improved using an analytical method. The approach is then tested on five instances from the literature. Test problems include three large size problems of 50, 100, and 125 facilities. The results demonstrate effectiveness of the technique especially for large size problems.

The stability of the slope in the existing and design provisions is investigated, the constructive decisions of retaining walls on protection of the territory of construction of a residential complex in a zone of a slope are substantiated. The stability of the slope when using rational landslide structures is estimated. The results of the calculation of the slope stability for five characteristic sections on the basis of engineering-geological survey are analyzed. For each of the given sections the finite-element scheme according to the last data on change of a relief is created. The slope was formed artificially by filling the existing ravine with construction debris from the demolition of old houses and from the excavation of ditches for the first houses of the complex. Five sections along the slope are considered and its stability in the natural state and design positions is determined. Also the constructive decisions of retaining walls on protection of the territory of construction of a residential complex as along the slope there are bulk soils with various difference of heights are substantiated. This requires a separate approach to the choice of parameters of retaining walls, namely the dimensions of the piles and their mutual placement, as well as the choice of the angle of the bulk soil along the slope. The calculations were performed using numerical simulation of the stress-strain state of the system "slope soils-retaining wall" using the finite element method. An elastic-plastic model of soil deformation with a change in soil parameters (deformation module) depending on the level of stresses in the soil is adopted. Hardening soil model (HSM) used. Calculations of slope stability involve taking into account the technological sequence of erection of retaining walls and modeling of the phased development of the pit. The simulation was performed in several stages: Stage 1 - determination of stresses from the own shaft, Stage 2 - assessment of slope stability before construction, Stage 3 - installation of retaining wall piles, Stage 4 - assessment of slope stability after landslides. Based on these studies, practical recommendations were developed for the design of each section of the retaining wall in accordance with the characteristic cross-sections.

AbstractTheological colleges and seminaries across the Anglican Communion are at a crossroads and this essay proposes a reorientation of their life towards serving the intentional discipleship of the whole people of God. This kind of change would affect the culture as well as the content of what they do. For example, their pedagogy could become that of ‘the flipped classroom’, where ordinands engage in an apprenticeship style of learning, with their time in college falling within placement learning and providing constructive theological reflection upon that prior learning. This will bring great benefits to these institutions through their becoming re-connected and re-embedded in the life of the church at grass roots level, giving them a valued and indispensable role in the mission of the church in diverse contexts.

As the title implies the paper deals with the architectural and design features of the Orthodox Churches of the Western Ukrainian Diaspora, the principles of their placement in the development of cities and towns. The purpose of the publication is to study the Orthodox architecture of the Ukrainian diaspora, to determine the main stages of formation, development of Orthodox Church building outside Ukraine. The article spotlights a number of political, economic and social circumstances that have forced many Ukrainians to travel to other countries. The four largest waves of immigration have been identified. The importance of religion in the formation of the Ukrainian diaspora, which united immigrants, helped to organize their cultural and artistic aspects of life; revive traditions; to study the native Ukrainian language and be in the circle of like-minded people. Thus, Ukrainian Orthodox church architecture developed and became outside the ethnic Ukrainian lands. At the moment, there is a lack of sufficient scientific base that covers the sacred development of the Ukrainian diaspora, especially Orthodox church architecture. The article presents scholars who have studied the architecture, art, culture and Orthodox shrines of the Ukrainian diaspora. The article examines countries such as Canada, the United States, Australia and Western Europe. The author identifies architectural and design features and urban planning principles based on four architectural and spatial types. Such stylistic trends as: eclectic were common; "Citation" of a certain style of architecture or "stylization"; creative reworking of historical styles of Ukrainian architecture "stylization"; modernist-abstract, which is characterized by geometrization and continuous simplification of form. To illustrate these statements, the author of the article developed diagrams and tables. In conclusion, the purpose and objectives of the publication based on the studied temples were revealed. About 180 Orthodox churches in Canada, 60 churches in the United States, 12 Orthodox churches in Australia and sacred buildings in Western Europe of the Ukrainian diaspora were analyzed.

The article provides a theoretical substantiation of the structural parameters of the frame structure for the placement of piece loads, as well as clamping levers with rollers and their arrangement, which interact with the inner surface of the guide ropes of the developed transport system. The established limits of rational parameters and angular positions of levers and their compression springs to the inclined sidewalls for the right and left sides of the movable elements of the frame structure relative to the central vertical axis, as well as the angle of the guide ropes to the horizon. On the basis of the results of calculations and recommendations for the choice of parameters of the proposed technical solutions, a rope mechanism for storing piece loadings into small warehouses was manufactured and preliminary experimental studies were carried out.

We present the design of Ge/Si avalanche photodetectors with SiN stressor-induced Ge strain for the C+L band light detection. By optimizing the placement position and thickness of the SiN layer with compressive stress, a uniform strain distribution with a maximum magnitude of 0.59% was achieved in Ge. The surface-illuminated APDs have been studied in respect of the photo-dark current, responsivity, gain, and 3-dB bandwidth. After introducing SiN stressor, the APD exhibits high primary responsivity of 0.80 A/W at 1.55 μm, 0.71 A/W at 1.625 μm, and 3-dB bandwidth of 17.5 GHz. The increased tensile strain in Ge can significantly improve the responsivity and broaden the response band of the device. This work provides a constructive approach to realizing high-responsivity high-speed Ge/Si APD working in the C+L band.

Feedback is essential in medical education. Constructive feedback provision from teachers and learners receiving and seeking feedback themselves are both important, particularly in clinical clerkships where students interact with authentic clinical settings. This study aims to explore the feedback-seeking behaviour of final-year undergraduate medical students in primary and secondary healthcare centres and to determine factors influencing this behaviour. A qualitative phenomenology study design was used involving final-year undergraduate medical students at the Faculty of Medicine Universitas Indonesia. A maximum variation sampling approach, considering gender and healthcare centre placement, was conducted. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews until data saturation was reached. Data was then analysed using a thematic analysis approach. A total of 10 (4 males, 6 females) students were interviewed. Students displayed acts of both seeking and not seeking feedback in clinical learning environments in primary and secondary healthcare centres. Acts of seeking feedback included asking for feedback on performance when it was not provided, taking the initiative to seek feedback in life-saving situations, confirming feedback, clarifying supervisors’ reasoning and indirect feedback-seeking methods. Acts of not seeking feedback included not seeking further feedback, not clarifying supervisors’ reasoning and not seeking feedback when it was not provided. This study found that supervisor, student and environmental factors may influence feedback-seeking behaviour. This study provides further insights on feedback-seeking behaviour, which must be considered in workplacebased clinical learning environments.

Assertive communication is a skill that many nurses, particularly nursing students, find challenging. This article describes the findings of phenomenological study that set out to explore third-year student nurses' experiences of using assertive communication in the clinical setting. A narrative enquiry approach reviewed six reflective written accounts of their experiences. In addition, seven students took part in an in-depth semi-structured group discussion of their clinical experiences. Data were analysed using a hybrid interpretive phenomenological analysis and discourse analysis framework. Three key themes emerged: a sense of responsibility/duty and a sense of failure when this is not upheld, the importance of mentors in promoting self-confidence and self-esteem, and a sense of belonging on placement. The students responded well to positive role models and were able to identify negative role models. Accurate, constructive feedback and support was important to help students reflect appropriately.

Abstract The article deals with the highly relevant problem of finding additional sources of energy supply for industrial enterprises using alternative energy-saving energy sources. The author considers the possibility for using the energy potential of surface wind flows with the formation of a wind profile to fit conditions of applications in industrial buildings, as the central idea. The proposed concept is substantiated by the possibility of effective use of outdoor wind generators in construction of the supporting frame of industrial building. The method of integrating wind-driven generators into the structure of a multi-span industrial building is illustrated by the author in the case study of a completed pilot project. The author proposes a solution for a multi-span frame with the formation of a wind-driven transverse profile of the building. A new architectural & constructive solution fundamentally provides a possibility for rational placement of a supporting frame of additional wind-driven power plant with the use of wind turbines in a single integral configuration. Efficient types of turbogenerators were used in the form of built-in multi-row sections configured in the upper zone of the production building, with comprehensive maintenance of the said sections provided. The research results are recommended for wide implementation of such wind generator plants in design and upgrade of industrial buildings for multiple purposes with energy-efficient use of the structural features of their supporting frame. The author has substantiated the prospects for further comprehensive research.

. The current direction in the development of renewable energy today is the efficient use of the potential of solar energy. The construction of energy-efficient low-power autonomous solar power supply systems is a priority task, the solution of which will lead to energy independence of the consumer from the electricity market. Decentralization of energy supply is currently a global trend. Renewable energy is a solution to many problems of energy systems in an energy crisis. It is on renewable energy sources and autonomous power plants built on their basis that the future is. But their construction must meet a number of requirements, such as energy efficiency, performance, reliability, mobility and modularity. . The constructive issues of building photovoltaic plants are important and require an individual approach in each case, taking into account a variety of impact indicators. Therefore, it is very important to identify the optimal geometric design of an autonomous photogeneration system, which is the most energy efficient and productive in terms of generating electrical energy. The generation of electrical energy by solar power plants and, accordingly, the energy efficiency and performance of solar panels depends on many factors, but climatic and technical ones have the greatest influence. Since it is impossible to influence the change in climatic conditions, it is accordingly necessary to adapt to them in order to reduce their impact. Thus, one of the solutions is the location of solar panels at an optimal angle to directional solar radiation. From a technical point of view, the issue of adapting solar panels to climatic factors has been studied for a long time and has certain solutions. But constructive issues that also ensure the mobility and modularity of an autonomous solar installation, taking into account such parameters as the occupied area, the location of the components of the energy storage system, the conversion system and the control system, require further development. One of the solutions to these issues is the geometrization of the design of a solar power plant, making it in the form of a geometric figure with the location of all the necessary devices and systems in the middle of it. The paper considers solar power plants structurally made in the form of a cube and in the form of a cone. The theoretical review of the construction of solar power plants in the form of geometric structures allows us to conclude that each given design has such general advantages as a reduction in the area of placement, structural stability and modularity. But all the considered designs need further development in order to increase their efficiency and, accordingly, energy performance.

Abstract Quite often, seeds intended for etching contain a large amount of impurities on which the working fluid of the preparations settles. As a result, the quality of seed dressing decreases. This article discusses the quality problems of pre-sowing treatment of seeds, mainly grain and leguminous crops, with protective-stimulating drugs and their mixtures with modern mobile etchants. Their design features are analyzed with the identification of shortcomings that reduce the degree of penetration of drugs into the seed up to the embryo and, accordingly, the quality of the cultivated crop. The necessity of performing the upper cavity of the inclined intake screw of the machine with exhaust holes for dust and impurities with the placement of a vacuum chamber above it in the form of a hemispherical casing connected by means of a corrugated sleeve to the cavity of the aspirator filter housing and an electric fan impeller placed above it is substantiated. The main advantage of such constructive solution is the complete cleaning of seeds from dust and impurities before they enter the etching chamber of the unit.

Findings from a longitudinal survey, interview, and observational study of an early cohort of New Jersey elementary, secondary English, and secondary math teachers participating in a first-generation state alternate route initiative to address issues of supply, quality, and diversity in the teaching pool are discussed. The article explores emerging themes common to the literature on alternate routes and unique contributions of this study in relation to the recruitment, preparation, placement, and retention of teachers prepared in college-based and alternate route programs. The article ends with implications of what has been learned and still needs to be learned about different approaches in the face of the continued need for highly qualified teachers and in light of the contrasting policy agendas surrounding teacher education. Rather than the “horse-race” mentality that dominated earlier debate of alternate route vs. college-based teacher education programs, a more constructive frame considers the short term and long term trade-offs (e.g., recruitment vs. preparation, recruitment vs. retention) that arose from New Jersey's early implementation of an alternate route program.

The paper describes an equipment specialized in digitization of single documents, journal-type documents and books. The equipment is designed and assembled at Politehnica University of Timisoara and works in a station developed within the European project thinkMOTION. The optical calculus aimed optimal illumination of two symmetrical areas and high quality of captured images. The object of scanning is printed matter, which exists exclusively in paper form and originates from different periods of scientific evolution. The mechanical design was based on criteria such as: flatness of active surfaces, quick placement and removal of the original document, mechanical raw focusing facilities, adjustment regarding the thickness of the original document and finding constructive solutions so that no damage is inflicted upon the original document, which may be one of a kind and, hence, historically very valuable. An original software was created in order to control the scanning process, to organize files and folders, which stock captured images in different stages of processing. The effective efficiency of the equipment is 10 12 pages/minute.

The spectacular evolution of communications systems, accessibility, has increased in the last year due to the restrictions caused by pandemic. We see the tendency of young people to give up any physical activity that requires physical exertion. This study is based on the answers of the 75 subjects, teachers of physical education, 35 students and master students from the last years of study, who were previously informed on the subject around which the questionnaire was addressed. The questions were formulated together with a group of Methodist teachers, physical education teachers. We found that 54.3% of school principals agree to the placement of a center to develop school mobility skills, and 22.2% agree with it only after the vote in the school board. For the opportunity to collaborate with military school teachers in organizing the exercise skills course, 96% of physical education teachers and school leaders responded favorably. We consider that a constructive proposal is the creation of new opportunities for collaboration between schools and especially high schools, with military schools, which can realize partnerships generating value and benefits for students.

High-speed ground maglev transport creates electromagnetic interference of wide frequency spectrum during the movement. Electromagnetic interference spreads both in the surrounding environment and within the transport itself. Mathematically, electromagnetic interference is a vector (and in some cases tensor) field, where the functions are magnetic and electrical tenseness. Purpose. The purpose of the work is to ensure electromagnetic safety of high-speed ground maglev transport’s technical means and people (passengers and staff) by means of optimisation synthesis. Objective. The objective of the works is to optimise the placement of field sources in areas with variable geometric characteristics. Methodology. The method of the work is to synthesise elements of an energy system whose characteristics depend on the behaviour of electromagnetic interference. The mathematical model of the energy system being designed should take into account technological and constructive constraints, and electromagnetic interference. Calculation of electromagnetic interference from several sources in the premises, where the energy system is located by means of solving nonlinear tasks of special type mathematical programming. The peculiarities of this type of problems do not allow using known methods of mathematical programming. Finally, methods of formalisation and algorithms for solving optimisation problems of placement. Practical significance. The search of solution of optimisation tasks became feasible owing to a number of suggestions put forward by the author: introduction of scalar potentials for describing external electromagnetic interference of the electric power plant elements; the introduction of interinfluence taking into account the influence of closely-located sources; development of screening functions in the form of harmonic decompositions; the application of addition theorems which enable describing solutions of mathematical physics equations in different coordinate systems. Conclusion. The suggested method of formation of maglev transport electric energy system may be useful.

Abstract INTRODUCTION: Circumferential aneurysms, which incorporate >180 degrees of the circumference of the parent vessel, present a unique therapeutic challenge, particularly in circumstances in which a deconstructive treatment strategy is not feasible. We detail a novel technique for endovascular parent vessel reconstruction with aneurysm embolization. METHODS: We performed a retrospective review of the prospectively maintained databases of our two institutions to identify cases in which a balloon-in-stent technique had been used to treat circumferential aneurysms. During the first stage of this technique, a stent (Neuroform [Boston Scientific, Natick, MA], Multilink Vision [Guidant, Indianapolis, IN], or Bx Velocity [Cordis, New Brunswick, NJ]) is placed across the neck of the aneurysm to achieve parent vessel reconstruction. During the second stage, aneurysm coil embolization is performed with a compliant temporary occlusion balloon (Sentry [Boston Scientific, Natick, MA] or Hyperglide [Microtherapeutics, Irvine, CA]) placed within the stent to unambiguously demarcate and protect the parent vessel. In some cases, during the course of the embolization, coils project over and obscure the parent vessel in both working views. Before each coil detachment, the protection balloon is deflated under blank fluoroscopic roadmap visualization. The absence of shifting of any portion of the coil mass during balloon deflation indicates that the introduced coil is external to the stent-reconstructed parent vessel (i.e., within the aneurysm) and can be detached. This process is repeated until satisfactory aneurysm embolization is achieved. After embolization, the balloon catheter may be exchanged for a stent delivery system to facilitate the placement of a second stent. RESULTS: Seven patients underwent balloon-in-stent-assisted embolization over a 15-month period. Three were performed for internal carotid aneurysms, three for basilar trunk or basilar apex aneurysms, and one for a dissecting/fusiform V4 segment vertebral artery aneurysm. In three cases, the presence of the inflated balloon facilitated the manipulation of the image intensifier into a position which produced a “down-the-barrel” view of the parent vessel. In the four additional cases, for anatomic reasons, this view could not be achieved and coil mass projected over the reconstructed parent vessel in both views. Partial aneurysm occlusion (75–90%), was achieved in five cases, and near complete (>95%) occlusion was achieved in two cases. Complications included two significant retroperitoneal hematomas and two brainstem infarcts, both of which resulted in hemisensory symptoms. CONCLUSION: The balloon-in-stent technique provides a practical and safe treatment strategy for the management of circumferential aneurysms that are not amenable to deconstructive embolization.

Mobile ropeways for carrying out transport operations, formed with the help of terminal transport units connected by a single cable system on the basis of self-propelled wheeled or tracked chassis of increased carrying capacity and cross-country ability, are a promising type of lifting and transport equipment that ensures the rapid deployment of the necessary technological means. The article discusses the issues of preliminary arrangement of the rod mechanism for installation and fixation in the working position of the end tower using a folding rod consisting of two articulated links for a constructive variant of the outrigger placement of the tower on a rotary platform. The design and principle of operation of the rod mechanism is considered. A mathematical model has been developed that provides the required normative vertical dimension of a self-propelled vehicle for the purpose of its safe independent movement to the deployment site on general-purpose highways. The analysis of the influence of normative dimensional requirements, the structural dimensions of the bearing frame of the chassis and the height of the end tower on the main structural dimensions of the articulated folding rod in the transport position is carried out.

Object Endoscopic third ventriculostomy is the treatment of choice in patients with obstructive hydrocephalus caused by aqueductal stenosis. The authors examined the clinical course and results of surgical treatment for obstructive hydrocephalus with pre- and postoperative refined constructive interference in steady-state (CISS) MR imaging. Methods Forty patients with obstructive hydrocephalus underwent pre- and postoperative 3D-CISS imaging and clinical evaluation. Radiological findings were correlated with intraoperative observations of the thickness and transparency of the floor of the third ventricle and the patient's postoperative clinical course. Results Three-dimensional CISS MR imaging provides precise visualization of the basilar/posterior cerebral artery, its distance to the clivus, the diameter of the foramen of Monro, and the extension of and thickness of the floor of the third ventricle. In 71% of patients a flow void was detectable postoperatively on the ventriculostomy. In this group 81.5% had strong and 14.8% moderate clinical benefit, and 3.7% required secondary shunt placement. In the remaining 29% of the patients without a visible flow void, strong improvement was seen in 54.5%, moderate improvement in 18.2%, and stoma failure occurred in 27.3% (p = 0.094). Radiological measurements of the thickness of the third ventricle floor correlated with intraoperative findings (r = 0.35, p = 0.029). Comparison of outcomes showed a statistically significant tendency for a better outcome in patients with thin and easily perforated third ventricle floors (p = 0.04). Conclusions Endoscopic ventriculostomy in patients with obstructive hydrocephalus is safe and mostly successful, and 3D-CISS MR imaging seems to be a valuable diagnostic method for precisely identifying the anatomy of relevant structures. Furthermore, 3D-CISS MR imaging allows judgment of the thickness of the third ventricle floor and display of the ventriculostomy/flow void, which are predictive for intraoperative course and clinical outcome.

The twenty-first century is the century of the performative.1 Claire Colebrook (2018) A performative teaching, learning, and research culture can emerge wherever an academic discipline enters into a constructive dialogue with the performing arts. Many challenges of the 21st century (see the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN)2 require creative solutions. Creativity is, however, not yet sufficiently promoted at universities, thus an artistic reorientation in teaching and research is imperative. As early as 2006, at the UNESCO World Congress in Lisbon and again in Seoul in 20103, there were calls to strengthen the role of the arts in education. Implementation of these recommendations has, however, been very limited thus far. Studies in cognitive science show that performative teaching and learning cultivates a deeper understanding of content and improved long-term retention of knowledge.4 In fact, it has been shown that the use of performative teaching and learning approaches leads to more creative, better learning outcomes; students relate more strongly to their studies and drop-out rates decrease. In addition, overall willingness to learn within the university context has been documented, as well as increased complexity and closer connection to practice in higher education, thus affording graduates better job placement opportunities. All the installations, devices, and annexes within the laser and the gamma ray production system within the ELI-NP project from Magurele are installed on an inertial platform that weighs over 54,000 tons. The platform is made of concrete, is insulated from the outside environment, and is supported by spring batteries and shock absorbers. The flatness of this platform respects some very strict standards, and, taking into account the processes that take place on the platform, the transmission of the different trepidations of the environment to the inertial mass must be extremely low. For this reason, a static study and a vibration analysis of the platform, performed in this paper, are required. The static analysis verifies if the flatness of the platform can be observed in operating conditions, and the dynamic analysis verifies how excitations coming from the external environment can be transmitted to the measuring equipment. The finite element method is used both to determine the deformability of the concrete platform for different loads, placed at different points and to determine its eigenvalues and its eigenmodes of vibration. The obtained results are analyzed and constructive solutions are proposed to improve the realized system, through a judicious placement of the installations and the distribution of the masses on the platform.

We consider the uniform scattering problem for a set of autonomous mobile robots deployed in a grid network: starting from an arbitrary placement in the grid, using purely localized computations, the robots must move so to reach in finite time a state of static equilibrium in which they cover uniformly the grid. The theoretical quest is on determining the minimal capabilities needed by the robots to solve the problem. We prove that uniform scattering is indeed possible even for very weak robots. The proof is constructive. We present a provably correct protocol for uniform self-deployment in a grid. The protocol is fully localized, collision-free, and it makes minimal assumptions; in particular: (1) it does not require any direct or explicit communication between robots; (2) it makes no assumption on robots synchronization or timing, hence the robots can be fully asynchronous in all their actions; (3) it requires only a limited visibility range; (4) it uses at each robot only a constant size memory, hence computationally the robots can be simple Finite-State Machines; (5) it does not need a global localization system but only orientation in the grid (e.g., a compass); (6) it does not require identifiers, hence the robots can be anonymous and totally identical.

An engineering analysis of the technical documentation means the activity by which the information is set in the documentation is extracted to verify the correctness of a given point of view of implementation, further development of the documentation (technical object) or accumulation of engineering experience. The current paper provides a summary of the types of engineering analysis, which can be carried out based on the design documentation. The following types of analysis are discussed in the paper: structural (the definition of the components of the object and connections between them); constructive (realization of major constructive activities); conceptual (search for other conceptual versions of the product); functional (determination of the object functions); geometrical (determination of other variants of the components shape, their placement and the connections between them); for calculation (determination of the necessary calculations); research (identification of the necessary tests); of safety (analysis of the product from the point of view of human safety); functional value (technical and economic improvement); dimensional (determination of fits and deviations of dimensions); technological control (inspection of the parts from the viewpoint of manufacturability); metrological (the same, but from the viewpoint of measurement); heuristic (search of ideas for improving of the object); of modification (search for modifications of the object); for regulatory control (check for complying with all regulatory requirements); ergonomic (analysis of the product from an ergonomic point of view); aesthetic (arrangement of aesthetic point of view); of transport (analysis of the object from the point of view of its transport); technological (analysis of the product from the point of view of its manufacture); operational (analysis of the product from the point of view of its operation); of repair (analysis of the product from the point of view of its repair); of utilization (analysis from the viewpoint of utilization); environmental (analysis from the viewpoint of environmental pollution); correctional (correction of the documentation). These analyzes can be used in the engineering training of students — a part of them in the course "Technical Documentation" or disciplines with similar names, while the other parts in the other design disciplines.
