In this thesis, we studied the regularization methods for the numerical resolution of problems with equilibria. In the first part, we focused on the complementarity problems through two applications that are the absolute value equation and the sparse optimization problem. In the second part, we concentrated on optimization problems with complementarity constraints. After studying the optimality conditions of this problem, we proposed a new regularization method, so-called butterfly relaxation. Then, based on an analysis of the regularized sub-problems we defined an algorithm with strong convergence property. Throughout the manuscript, we concentrated on the theoretical properties of the algorithms as well as their numerical applications. In the last part of this document, we presented numerical results using the regularization methods for the mathematical programs with complementarity constraints

We consider variational inequalities written in the form of partial differential equations with nonlinear complementarity constraints. The discretization of such problems leads to nonlinear non-differentiable discrete systems that can be solved employing an iterative linearization method of semismooth type like, e.g., the Newton-min algorithm. Our goal in this thesis is to conceive a simple smoothing approach that involves approximating the problem as a system of nonlinear smooth (differentiable) equations. In this setting, a direct application of classical Newton-type methods is possible. We construct a posteriori error estimates that lie at the foundation of an adaptive inexact smoothing Newton algorithm for a solution of the considered problems. We first present the strategy in a discrete framework. Then, we develop the method for the model problem of contact between two membranes. Last, an application to a compositional multiphase flow industrial model is introduced. In Chapter 1, we are concerned about nonlinear algebraic systems with complementarity constraints arising from numerical discretizations of PDEs with nonlinear complementarity problems. We produce a smooth approximation of a nonsmooth function, reformulating the complementarity conditions. The ensuing nonlinear system is solved employing the Newton method, together with an iterative linear algebraic solver to approximately solve the linear system. We establish an upper bound on the considered system’s residual and design a posteriori error estimators identifying the smoothing, linearization, and algebraic error components. These ingredients are used to formulate efficient stopping criteria for the nonlinear and algebraic solvers. With the same methodology, an adaptive interior-point method is proposed. We apply our algorithm to the algebraic system of variational inequalities describing the contact between two membranes and a two-phase flow problem. We provide numerical comparison of our approach with a semismooth Newton method, possibly combined with a path-following strategy, and a nonparametric interior-point method. In Chapter 2, in an infinite-dimensional framework, we consider as a model problem the contact problem between two membranes. We employ a finite volume discretization and apply the smoothing approach proposed in Chapter 1 to smooth the non-differentiability in the complementarity constraints. The resolution of the arising nonlinear smooth system is again realized thanks to the Newton method, in combination with an iterative algebraic solver for the solution of the resulting linear system. We design H1-conforming potential reconstructions as well as H(div)-conforming discrete equilibrated flux reconstructions. We prove an upper bound for the total error in the energy norm and conceive discretization, smoothing, linearization, and algebraic estimators reflecting the errors stemming from the finite volume discretization, the smoothing of the non-differentiability, the linearization by the Newton method, and the algebraic solver, respectively. This enables us to establish adaptive stopping criteria to stop the different solvers in the proposed algorithm and design adaptive algorithm steering all these four components. In Chapter 3, we consider a compositional multiphase flow (oil, gas, and water) with phase transitions in a porous media. A finite volume discretization yields a nonlinear non-differentiable algebraic system which we solve employing our inexact smoothing Newton technique. Following the process of Chapter 1, we build a posteriori estimators by bounding the norm of the discrete system’s residual, resulting in adaptive criteria that we incorporate in the employed algorithm. Throughout this thesis, numerical experiments confirm the efficiency of our estimates. In particular, we show that the developed adaptive algorithms considerably reduce the overall number of iterations in comparison with the existing methods

This thesis deals with the theory of barriers in input and state constrained nonlinear systems. Our main contribution is a generalisation to the case where the constraints are mixed, that is they depend on both the input and the state in a coupled way. Constraints of this type often appear in applications, as well as in constrained flat systems. We prove a minimum-like principle that allows the construction of the barrier and the associated admissible set. Moreover, in case of intersection of some of the trajectories involved in this principle, we prove that such transversal intersection points are stopping points of the barrier. We demonstrate the utility of all the theoretical contributions by finding the admissible set for the inverted pendulum on a cart with a non-rigid cable, the constraint being that the cable remains taut. Note that this problem corresponds to the determination of potentially safe sets in hybrid systems

The aim of this work is to predict numerically the three - dimensional turbulent flows of a Newtonian and incompressible fluid using nonlinear stress - strain models. The Explicit Algebraic Stress Models (EASM), which can take into account the anisotropy of turbulence with less CPU time and computer memory than RSM or approach DNS and LES, are adopted as a turbulence model. Among these models, we choosed Shih et al. (1995) and Craft et a1.(1996) models. These models are studied using a priori and a posteriori investigations. The study is carried out in square duct. This configuration presents a secondary flow and a significant anisotropy between the Reynolds stress components. To predict the significant viscous effects due to the wall and the corner, the damping functions are implemented. The maps of the second and third invariants in the plan of Lumley exhibited show the various states of turbulence and a good anisotropy level obtained. The mean flow field and the turbulent statistics are compared with existing numerical and experimental data for square and rectangular duct flow. The model performance is shown to be satisfactory. ln particular, the mean secondary velocity vectors and stream wise vorticity are well predicted

Повний текст джерелаNotre travail se compose de trois parties.

Most physical systems are subject to control constraints. Indeed, these constraints can lead to the degradation of performances and even instability of closed-loop systems. In this context, the main objective of this thesis is to develop adaptive fuzzy control laws for nonlinear systems in the presence of saturation constraints and applying them to the diesel engine system. The objective is to control the three actuators of the air loop of the diesel engine, namely: the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR), the Variable Geometry Turbine (VGT) and the Throttle. The idea is to track a given reference signals which are chosen in order to optimize the pollutant emissions and the fuel consumption. In this thesis, two models have been adopted, a model with two inputs and two outputs in which the Throttle is assumed to be totally opened and a three input three output model. These models describe the significant parameters of the system, such that: the pressure of the intake manifold, the pressure of the exhaust manifold and the compressor power. The proposed algorithms are validated by simulation and using the AMESim simulator

This thesis deals with the solving of nonlinear systems of equations/constraints by interval-based methods. We present four contributions, all of them aiming at improving constraint propagation algorithms. Constraint propagation contracts the variable domains of individual constraints with a revise procedure and propagates the changes to the rest of the system. Our first two contributions are related to monotonicity of functions and to the dependency problem that occurs when a variable appears several times in a function f. In this case, interval-based methods can generally compute only an approximation of the exact range of f. In the same way, these methods cannot contract optimally the variable domains related to an individual constraint. First, we propose a new Mohc-Revise algorithm that computes the optimal contraction of variables (w. R. T. An individual constraint) when the function is monotonic. The second contribution is an Occurrence Grouping technique that transforms a function f into an equivalent function f_opg, such that the range of f_og can be better approximated by using the monotonicity property. The third contribution is related to the common subexpression elimination technique (CES). CSE is a well-known technique mainly used in code optimization. It basically consists in replacing each subexpression g(X) shared by two or more expressions by an auxiliary variable v and adding the new constraint v = g(X). In this thesis, we prove that the use of CSE techniques in interval analysis as a preprocessing can improve the filtering power of constraint propagation algorithms. Finally, we propose a new partial focusing on well-constrained subsystems of size k. Contracting these subsystems can bring additional filtering compared to global contractors (like interval Newton) and revise procedure used in constraint propagation

The study and the design of nonlinear systems (stability study, stabilizing control laws synthesis, robustness analysis,. . . ) arise difficult numerical problems that classical methods have difficulty to solve. Then, set-membership formulations of these problems, where the basic idea is to replace punctual value by interval that include it, where already show very efficient for their resolution. In this thesis, we propose new set-membership algorithms dedicated for most special tasks like set projection over a subspace. In order to improve, the efficiency of these algorithms in general context, we have presented two ideas. The first one consist to decompose the projection of a n-dimensional set, in an intersection of sets projections where the sum of dimensions is equal to n. The second idea consists in yielding the projection algorithms more efficient by improving inner approximation. In a second time, the developed algorithms have been implemented in order to treat stability and control problem ot time-delay systems, sailing boat control and filters design

Contrary to the standard approach consisting in introducing ad hoc constraints and designing dedicated algorithms for handling their combinatorial aspect, this thesis takes another point of view. On the one hand, it focusses on describing a family of sequence constraints in a compositional way by multiple layers of functions. On the other hand, it addresses the combinatorial aspect of both a single constraint and a conjunction of such constraints by synthesising compositional combinatorial objects, namely bounds, linear inequalities, non-linear constraints and finite automata. These objects are obtained in a systematic way and are not instance-specific: they are parameterised by one or several constraints, by the number of variables in a considered sequence of variables, and by the initial domains of the variables. When synthesising such objects we draw full benefit both from the declarative view of such constraints, based on regular expressions, and from the operational view, based on finite transducers and register automata. There are many advantages of synthesising combinatorial objects rather than designing dedicated algorithms: 1) parameterised formulae can be applied in the context of several resolution techniques such as constraint programming or linear programming, whereas algorithms are typically tailored to a specific technique; 2) combinatorial objects can be combined together to provide better performance in practice; 3) finally, the quantities computed by some formulae cannot just be used in an optimisation setting, but also in the context of data mining

The aim of this thesis is the study of two topical issues arising from general relativity: finding initial data for the Cauchy problem with respect to the Einstein equations and the positive mass theorem. For the first issue, in the context of the conformal method introduced by Lichnerowicz [Lichnerowicz, 1944], Y. Choquet-Bruhat–J. York [Choquet-Bruhat et York, 1980] and Y. Choquet-Bruhat–J. Isenberg–D. Pollack [Choquet-Bruhat et al., 2007a], we consider the conformal constraint equations on compact Riemannian manifolds of dimension n > 3. In this thesis, we simplify the proof of [Dahl et al., 2012, Theorem 1.1], extend and sharpen the far-from CMC result proven by Holst– Nagy–Tsogtgerel [Holst et al., 2009], Maxwell [Maxwell, 2009] and give an unifying viewpoint of these results. Besides discussing the solvability of the conformal constraint equations, we will also show nonexistence and nonuniqueness results for solutions to the conformal constraint equations under certain assumptions

When dealing with nonlinear systems, regular notions of stability are not enough to ensure an appropriate behavior when dealing with problems such as tracking, synchronization and observer design. Incremental stability has been proposed as a tool to deal with such problems and ensure that the system presents relevant qualitative behavior. However, as it is often the case with nonlinear systems, the complexity of the analysis leads engineers to search for relaxations, which introduce conservatism. In this thesis, we focus on the incremental stability of a specific class of systems, namely piecewise-affine systems, which could provide a valuable tool for approaching the incremental stability of more general dynamical systems.Piecewise-affine systems have a partitioned state space, in each region of which the dynamics are governed by an affine differential equation. They can represent systems containing piecewise-affine nonlinearities, as well as serve as approximations of more general nonlinear systems. More importantly, their description is relatively close to that of linear systems, allowing us to obtain analysis conditions expressed as linear matrix inequalities that can be efficiently handled numerically by existing solvers. In the first part of this memoir, we review the literature on the analysis of piecewise-affine systems using Lyapunov and dissipativity techniques. We then propose new conditions for the analysis of incremental L2-gain and incremental asymptotic stability of piecewise-affine systems expressed as linear matrix inequalities. These conditions are shown to be less conservative than previous results and illustrated through numerical examples. In the second part, we consider the case of uncertain piecewise-affine systems represented as the interconnection between a nominal system and a structured uncertainty block. Using graph separation theory, we propose conditions that extend the framework of integral quadratic constraints to consider the case when the nominal system is piecewise affine, both in the non-incremental and incremental cases. Through dissipativity theory, these conditions are then expressed as linear matrix inequalities. Finally, the third part of this memoir is devoted to the analysis of uncertain Lur’e-type nonlinear systems. We develop a new approximation technique allowing to equivalently rewrite such systems as uncertain piecewise-affine systems connected with the approximation error. The proposed approach ensures that the approximation error is Lipschitz continuous with a guaranteed pre-specified upper bound on the Lipschitz constant. This enables us to use the aforementioned techniques to analyze more general classes of nonlinear systems

This thesis deals with the problem of a dynamical system observation and the estimation of its characteristic variables; the latter point constitutes the core element in many engineering science fields. The final aim is to build a general framework for integrity control and fault detection of such systems within a bounded error context. The developments offered herein make use of parity relations, sliding mode differentiators, interval observers and constraint satisfaction problems. Input reconstruction techniques are developed for a general class of nonlinear continuous-time systems. Domains are reconstructed for the input values which are consistent with the measurements using interval analysis and constraint satisfaction techniques. It is shown that time-varying or invariant coordinate changes may relax the applicability conditions (stability/cooperativity) of the interval observer design methods. Sliding mode differentiators were also used to enhance interval observer accuracy. The proposed approaches are illustrated through computer simulations and they have been applied to aircraft servo loop control surface for robust and early detection of abnormal positions

This thesis focus on the research of the DC microgrid following two operation models: grid-connected mode, and off-grid mode including the islanded and isolated modes. The aim of this thesis is to propose a DC microgrid combining the advantages of the grid-connected or the off-grid mode, which named full DC microgrid. ln the full DC microgrid, the renewable energy sources, storage, and public grid are included, and the back-up sources also applied to reduce the load shedding. ln the full DC microgrid, a supervisory system is proposed to manage the power. The real-time power management in the operational layer of the supervisory system can keep the power balance. ln the optimization layer of the supervisory system, the day-ahead optimization is proposed to achieve the global minimal operation cost. The simulation results show that the full DC microgrid combines both advantages of the grid-connected and the off-grid mode to minimize the operating cost. Then, the supervisory system considers the dynamic efficiency of the converter to solve the problem that the power quality of the microgrid is degraded due to the unstable DC bus voltage caused by the inaccurate power control. The simulation results show that considering the dynamic efficiency of the converter in the operational layer of the supervisory system, the fluctuation of the DC bus voltage can be reduced. Regarding the importance of the PV prediction for the day-ahead optimization, two prediction modes are studied and compared to give a robust PV prediction power. The results are that the two models almost have the same results
Imamovic, Ismar. "Ultimate load limit analysis of steel structures accounting for nonlinear behaviour of connections." Thesis, Compiègne, 2017. http://www.theses.fr/2017COMP2373/document.
This thesis deals with the ultimate load limit analysis of steel frame structures. The steel frame structure has a very ductile response and a large potential to dissipate energy, which is crucial in the case of earthquakes. The ductility in the response of the structure comes from the behavior of the material itself and the behavior of the semi-rigid structural connections. The semi-rigid connections between beams and columns can significantly influence the response of the structure, sometimes up to 30%. In this thesis, we propose a methodology for modeling steel frame structures with included connection behavior. The idea is to model the behavior of the structural connections by the beam elements positioned in the corners of the steel frame structure. Other members of the steel frame structure, steel beams, and columns, will be modeled with nonlinear beam elements. This research consists of two parts. The first part deals with the behavior of the structural steel connections. In the second part, we present the development of the nonlinear beam element capable of representing the ductile behavior of steel structural elements, beams and columns. In the first part of the thesis, we define constitutive parameters identification procedure for the coupled plasticity-damage model with eighteen unknowns. This constitutive model is very robust and capable of representing a wide range of problems. The identification procedure was used in the preparation of experimental tests for three different types of structural steel connections. The experimental tests have been performed for two load cases. In the first, the load was applied in one direction with both the loading and unloading cycles. From the experimental measurements, we have concluded that the response of the experimental structure can be represented by the plasticity model only because no significant change in the elastic response throughout the loading program was observed. Therefore, we have chosen an elastoplastic geometrically exact beam to describe connection behavior. The hardening response of the beam is governed by bilinear law, and the softening response is governed by nonlinear exponential law. The identification of the parameters has been successfully done with fifteen unknown parameters identified. The two types of the experimental structures were also exposed to the cyclic loading. Measured experimental data shows complex connection behavior that cannot be described by the plasticity model alone. Namely, after changing load direction stiffness of the connection decreases. This suggests that the damage model should be incorporated in the constitutive law for the connections behavior as well. Therefore, we propose a new coupled plasticity-damage model capable of representing the loss in the stiffness of the connection with the changing of the load direction. At the end of this part, we also give the constitutive parameters identification for the proposed model. The second part of the thesis deals with the theoretical formulation and numerical implementation of the elastoplastic geometrically exact beam. The hardening response of the beam includes interaction between stress resultant section forces (N, T and M), and the softening response of the beam, which is governed by the nonlinear law. This type of the beam element is capable of representing the ductile behavior of a steel frame structure, and it takes into account second order theory effects. Performed numerical simulations show that the proposed geometrically nonlinear beam element is very robust and is able to provide a more precise limit load analysis of steel frame structures. By using proposed methodology for modeling steel structures, we are able to obtain the real distribution of section forces, including their redistribution caused by forming of the hinges and the connections behavior
