The state-of-art technologies keep generating new ways of improving on the performance of the old systems. Array antennas, one of the continuously improving technologies, brought many benefits to our life. The superiorities of array antennas remove the disadvantages of the old technology radars such as great sidelobes, vulnerability to the jammers, and degradation effect of the clutter. Array antennas find many applications on different areas. Today, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have begun to be seen in our life more often than before. UAVs prevent pilot loss of life. They carry out a variety of military and civilian missions such as surveillance and reconnaissance, target recognition, battle damage assessment, EW, search and rescue, and traffic monitoring. An important use of the UAVs is troop support, carrying out reconnaissance and surveillance missions, which requires maintaining a data-link with troops in order to send any data collected, such as video images, or audio. During operations it is necessary to continuously maintain a data and control link with the operator. This requires the ground station antenna to track the UAV so the antenna beam is pointed properly. The purpose of this research is to design and build an array to angle-track a UAV and, eventually, to accomplish the data transfer from the UAV to the ground station.

The previous Head of Digital at Tate, John Stack, argues that digital transformation and the audience’s increasing expectation of participation are the two major changes during the last ten years (Mitchell 2014). This thesis addresses Tate Modern’s use of digital technologies with focus on how audience interaction and participation is facilitated through the affordances of digital technology. Additionally, this thesis examines how Tate’s digital policies corresponds with Tate Modern’s actual practices, online and onsite, regarding audience participation and interaction.  Discrepancies regarding Tate Modern’s practical approach to audience interaction and participation in relation to its policies were identified. The audience was not genuinely invited to participate through digital technologies during the examined period.  Tate Modern, although being a leader in its field, still has some way to go in its digital development and its approach towards the audience before becoming a truly participatory museum.

The study of e-governance in developing nations is informed by the idea that new technologies, reshaping the very nature of public services, can generate better outcomes in their provision. Beyond objective changes in governance infrastructures, the subjective perception of the state, as it is constructed by service recipients, is exposed to a parallel process of change, whose study has generated a novel research domain in the field of egovernance for development. With a view of contributing to this domain, this thesis studies the role of ICTs in processes of image formation on the state, as experienced by citizens in a developing country context. The theory on which the thesis is developed views technology as embedded in its sociopolitical context, and conceives e-governance as implicated in the reconstruction of images of the state. This vision is applied to the computerization of the main food security programme in India, the Public Distribution System (PDS), as it has been devised and implemented in the state of Kerala. Through an interpretive case study of the object at the core of computerization, known as the Electronic Public Distribution System or e-PDS, the thesis investigates the ICT-led processes of image construction by the state, and the ways in which citizens, confronted with new images, structure their perception of these. Through inclusion of front-end PDS services in existing infrastructure, and through the inscription of a clear problem-solution nexus in e-PDS, the state is found, as expected, to be using e-governance as a means to reconstruct its own image. At the same time, though, the loci of image formation that are found in citizens (direct experience, social networks, and political circuits) systematically escape control by governmental action, and seem to be, in fact, only marginally touched by the ICT-induced reinvention of governance. The thesis results, therefore, in an extension of existing theory in this respect: the capability of the state to reconstruct its image, through the usage of new technologies, is limited by the spaces of image formation which citizens experience in their daily lives.

Digital Information and Communication Technologies (TDIC) are increasingly present in our daily lives, modifying behaviors and lifestyles. These changes are also perceived in schools, especially in students, even those who do not have access to the digital universe at home. In public schools, we find some obstacles: there are computers available for use, however, for some teachers in the early years there is still doubt about the possibilities of using them in literacy: why, how and when to use them. Thus, we questioned if there are and how are the Digital Learning Objects (ODA) that assist in the process of literacy and literacy. Therefore, we established as general objective to evaluate the applicability of the ODA to the process of literacy and literacy. To achieve this, we define as specific objectives: a) to raise and analyze the existing ODA for use in the process of literacy and literacy, according to the levels of writing and the curriculum; b) apply and verify the applicability of the selected ODA in relation to the students and the teaching practice of the researcher herself; c) develop supporting material with ODA suggestions for use in literacy and literacy. Thus, we use the contributions of the qualitative research, with intervention and participant development, being stages of the work: 1) theoretical and documentary studies; 2) search for ODA for literacy and literacy; 3) preparation of an ODA analysis and evaluation tool; 4) analysis and evaluation of the ODA found; 5) application with students; 6) analysis and interpretation of results; 7) development of a site to support teachers with suggestions of games for different levels of literacy. After analysis and application of the ODA found, twelve were described and organized in one site of easy access and use by the teachers, consisting of the product of this dissertation for master's degree. The results of this research present the importance of the mediating role of the teacher and of his previous preparation to select and analyze the ODA to be explored in the teaching practice, since the use depends on the teacher, student and context profile, but for this, there is a need of subsidies to the teacher's digital literacy. Therefore, this work is relevant for articulating the use of TDICs in pedagogical practice, especially in literacy. But, inevitably, aspects related to public policies, such as infrastructure and teacher training for digital literacy, need to be critically analyzed.

Fourth industrial revolution, artificial intelligence and digital communications entirely lead to the changes in the approaches to the business modeling. The ecosystems of the businesses more than ever before engage all kind of stakeholders to the process of value creation. The value is creating through the entire supply chain by the participation of business, its partners/providers and end consumer. The measure of participation of end consumer in the personalized value creation will depend on his/her engagement in this process. But the world of personal brands which we create by the use of different social media demands people uniqueness and attractiveness for the subscribers. The role of business will be to suggest this opportunity and do it as easier and transparent this can be. The biggest challenge by this kind of business modeling is to define the contribution in the final value of each participant of such collaboration.

This research briefly introduces the roles of art museums and presents selected digital technology implementation challenges and benefits in art museums in the Gauteng Province. An art museum is a building or space for the exhibition of work of art, usually visual art. Art museums collect objects of art and other historic artefacts that are documented and exhibited for different purposes, such as aesthetic value, social, historic cultural and educational, significance and research values that are traceable to a specific society or group of individuals. In South Africa, particularly in the Gauteng Province, art museums are failing to keep pace with international trends about the use of digital technology. It is, therefore, important for art museums as information dissemination centres to incorporate digital technology in their daily museum business as it may offer the opportunity for these museums to become more effective and competitive in the global information society. A literature review is done to understand the trends of different digital technologies in other first world international cities. The examined literature revealed that the Internet and other technological applications of the new millennium prompted a re-evaluation of cutting edge museum research, education roles, and documentation capabilities. Consequently, digital technology became an integral component of the digital policies of many art museums, allowing them to satisfy the demand for online information sharing abilities. A qualitative research approach together with a constructivism educational theory is used to fully understand South Africa’s position regarding the use of digital technology. In South Africa, digital technology usage in art museums is predominantly limited to email exchange, electronic invitations to exhibitions, data capturing of collections and viewing of basic websites. In other words, digital technologies are not optimally used in the South African art museum environment. The study explores the benefits of digital technology interfaces at art museums against fixed traditional art museum information dissemination practices. The objectives of the study are to create an awareness of best practice in the implementation of digital technology interfaces at art museums in Gauteng. The findings in this study indicate that digital technologies have proved to be useful in several spheres of public life resulting in the popular utilization of e-learning, e-mail, e-health, e-government and e-commerce. It is, therefore, proposed that art museums in South Africa embrace digital technologies to enhance the transformation of these museums. In essence, the implementation of digital technologies such as ‘virtual tours’ and other popular social media platforms and applications may raise the profile of art museums and market their contents to wider audiences, and may also help to popularise their heritage collections for leisure and scholarly purposes.

This thesis will address and identify the effects of the Digital Technologies (DT) on the modified management modes. After having identified the organizational contexts that have passed throughout the history, especially pre-modern, modern and postmodern, the change is studied through the new spaces and issues of work. It comes out that the organizations with a high digital content and digital communications develop managerial practices that ensure their sustainability. The managerial innovation, the organizational agility, the collaborative work, collective intelligence, as well as other practices have been implanted on to more traditional aspects in form but actualized on the merits. The commitment and management styles that have been so strongly influenced by digital technology have led to practices that promote the benevolence while stressing further on the collaboration and the interactivity. The data collected from our empirical research show that the managerial practices of the Lebanese organizations are driven by the Digital Technologies (DT) similarly to the Northern countries, though with less amplitude they have led to innovative communication modes and efficient for the work relationships

This study investigated the connections between teachers’ and students’ perceptions of, and attitudes towards, the use of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) to support assessment in senior secondary courses in Western Australia, and the feasibility of such support in various forms. This investigation focused on the main characteristics of these perceptions, and attitudes and their relationships with curriculum, pedagogy, assessment and ICT. The findings provide guidelines for educators in using ICT to support summative performance assessment. My study was part of the main research study undertaken by Edith Cowan University (ECU) and the Curriculum Council of Western Australia (CCWA) and will provides significant clarity into the implementation of ICT support for performance assessment employing practices which characterise practical performance in digital forms. It was in the range of teacher and student perceptions and attitudes that this study added knowledge to the practice of digital forms of assessment. The overall intent was to design, cultivate and implement the best assessment task possible to measure the practical performance of students in Engineering Studies and Applied Information Technology (AIT). Therefore, it was also necessary to evaluate the feasibility of this task and factors that would affect feasibility such as perceptions and attitudes of particpants. To achieve this the study needed to gather data in various forms from a wide variety of sources that would allow triangluation of data analysis. Qualitative data were gathered from a student survey where a set of measurements scales were constructed. Quantitative data were assembled from observation and discussion with teachers before, during and after schools’ visits, from open-ended items in the student survey section and from teacher interview responses. In addition small groups of students were assembled into discussion forums and responses to a series of questions were recorded and analysed. A number of critical thresholds had been reached to underpin the relevance and importance of research into aspects of the use of ICT to support summative assessment. Firstly the growth in access to, and improvements, in ICT services has enabled this emergent area of digital assessment or e-assessment (JISC, 2006). However, this growth is not sufficient justification for the investigation and implementation of digital forms of assessment. The research is justified when this growth in ICT is combined with the increasing use of ICT to improve pedagogical practices; the employment of ICT to improve productivity in education; and the need to effectively and efficiently assess the practical performance of students in a large number of contexts. It was likely that the development of techniques to represent student performance in digital forms would assist the addressing of these imperatives. Whether these techniques were successful would depend on a number of influences including the attitudes and perceptions of students and teachers. When accountability and efficiency are called upon comparisions are often made with non-ICT strategies. These controlled experiment approaches can prove problematic due to ethical and political questions arising with non-ICT groups. The inherent assumptions to computer use in exams contexts are still conducted using pen and paper. In addition their lack of or slow uptake of ICT and the believed that curriculum will remain unchanged despite the introduction of ICT to support. Therefore this study took an ethnographic, rather than experimental approach, but sought to make comparisons between two key stakeholders; teachers and students. In line with the larger study of which this study was a part, data were collected using observation, interview, survey and document analysis. Analysis and interpretation included the application of a feasibility framework and case study comparison. The adoption of the Concerns Based Adoption Model (CBAM) or models based upon CBAM as an instrument to analyse data was employed in the case studies. The feasibility framework comprised four interrelated and complex parameters Manageability, Technical, Functional and Pedgogical dimensions is described in chapter eight of this study. It was evident from the research data, that students’ and teachers’ positive attutudes towards the computer-based performance exams and their beliefs in the value of ICT for assessment and all these intrinsic factors were fundamental to the feasibility of the implementation of digital forms of assessment in both Engineering Studies and AIT. From research data it was evident the application of ICT increasingly permeates students’ and teachers’ work and life, and their attitudes towards interaction with computer systems was a major factor in the success of digital forms of assessments in practical performance tasks. This was the focus and the background for this study. This study found that students in both the Engineering studies and AIT case studies attempted the assessment tasks with enthusiasm, however the AIT assessments were perceived a little more positively by students and teachers than the Engineering studies assessment. Assessment tasks worked best where the approach was familiar to students. This occurred for almost all cases in AIT, but not for Engineering although approach was relatively similar there were logisitical constraints in organising time to complete the tasks and in some cases technical in running the software on school workstations or accessing online systems through school networks. In a number of schools changes had to be mads to standard operating systems to allow software to run off USB thumb drives, video to be viewed, Flash applications to run within Internet browsers and sound to be recorded. Overall the study found that the benefits of digital forms of assessment implemented outweighted the constraints for both the Engineering studies and AIT course. In particular students’ and teachers’ responses were overwhelmingly postive due to the practical nature of the work in all assessment tasks. Generally they perferred this form of assessment to paper-based assessments. This study has added to existing knowledge on the implementing of digital forms of assessment, in particular to both the Engineering Studies and AIT, and in general to secondary senior courses in Western Australian (WA) schools.

The inquiry documented in this thesis is located at the nexus of technological innovation and traditional schooling. As we enter the second decade of a new century, few would argue against the increasingly urgent need to integrate digital literacies with traditional academic knowledge. Yet, despite substantial investments from governments and businesses, the adoption and diffusion of contemporary digital tools in formal schooling remain sluggish. To date, research on technology adoption in schools tends to take a deficit perspective of schools and teachers, with the lack of resources and teacher ‘technophobia’ most commonly cited as barriers to digital uptake. Corresponding interventions that focus on increasing funding and upskilling teachers, however, have made little difference to adoption trends in the last decade. Empirical evidence that explicates the cultural and pedagogical complexities of innovation diffusion within long-established conventions of mainstream schooling, particularly from the standpoint of students, is wanting. To address this knowledge gap, this thesis inquires into how students evaluate and account for the constraints and affordances of contemporary digital tools when they engage with them as part of their conventional schooling. It documents the attempted integration of a student-led Web 2.0 learning initiative, known as the Student Media Centre (SMC), into the schooling practices of a long-established, high-performing independent senior boys’ school in urban Australia. The study employed an ‘explanatory’ two-phase research design (Creswell, 2003) that combined complementary quantitative and qualitative methods to achieve both breadth of measurement and richness of characterisation. In the initial quantitative phase, a self-reported questionnaire was administered to the senior school student population to determine adoption trends and predictors of SMC usage (N=481). Measurement constructs included individual learning dispositions (learning and performance goals, cognitive playfulness and personal innovativeness), as well as social and technological variables (peer support, perceived usefulness and ease of use). Incremental predictive models of SMC usage were conducted using Classification and Regression Tree (CART) modelling: (i) individual-level predictors, (ii) individual and social predictors, and (iii) individual, social and technological predictors. Peer support emerged as the best predictor of SMC usage. Other salient predictors include perceived ease of use and usefulness, cognitive playfulness and learning goals. On the whole, an overwhelming proportion of students reported low usage levels, low perceived usefulness and a lack of peer support for engaging with the digital learning initiative. The small minority of frequent users reported having high levels of peer support and robust learning goal orientations, rather than being predominantly driven by performance goals. These findings indicate that tensions around social validation, digital learning and academic performance pressures influence students’ engagement with the Web 2.0 learning initiative. The qualitative phase that followed provided insights into these tensions by shifting the analytics from individual attitudes and behaviours to shared social and cultural reasoning practices that explain students’ engagement with the innovation. Six indepth focus groups, comprising 60 students with different levels of SMC usage, were conducted, audio-recorded and transcribed. Textual data were analysed using Membership Categorisation Analysis. Students’ accounts converged around a key proposition. The Web 2.0 learning initiative was useful-in-principle but useless-in-practice. While students endorsed the usefulness of the SMC for enhancing multimodal engagement, extending peer-topeer networks and acquiring real-world skills, they also called attention to a number of constraints that obfuscated the realisation of these design affordances in practice. These constraints were cast in terms of three binary formulations of social and cultural imperatives at play within the school: (i) ‘cool/uncool’, (ii) ‘dominant staff/compliant student’, and (iii) ‘digital learning/academic performance’. The first formulation foregrounds the social stigma of the SMC among peers and its resultant lack of positive network benefits. The second relates to students’ perception of the school culture as authoritarian and punitive with adverse effects on the very student agency required to drive the innovation. The third points to academic performance pressures in a crowded curriculum with tight timelines. Taken together, findings from both phases of the study provide the following key insights. First, students endorsed the learning affordances of contemporary digital tools such as the SMC for enhancing their current schooling practices. For the majority of students, however, these learning affordances were overshadowed by the performative demands of schooling, both social and academic. The student participants saw engagement with the SMC in-school as distinct from, even oppositional to, the conventional social and academic performance indicators of schooling, namely (i) being ‘cool’ (or at least ‘not uncool’), (ii) sufficiently ‘compliant’, and (iii) achieving good academic grades. Their reasoned response therefore, was simply to resist engagement with the digital learning innovation. Second, a small minority of students seemed dispositionally inclined to negotiate the learning affordances and performance constraints of digital learning and traditional schooling more effectively than others. These students were able to engage more frequently and meaningfully with the SMC in school. Their ability to adapt and traverse seemingly incommensurate social and institutional identities and norms is theorised as cultural agility – a dispositional construct that comprises personal innovativeness, cognitive playfulness and learning goals orientation. The logic then is ‘both and’ rather than ‘either or’ for these individuals with a capacity to accommodate both learning and performance in school, whether in terms of digital engagement and academic excellence, or successful brokerage across multiple social identities and institutional affiliations within the school. In sum, this study takes us beyond the familiar terrain of deficit discourses that tend to blame institutional conservatism, lack of resourcing and teacher resistance for low uptake of digital technologies in schools. It does so by providing an empirical base for the development of a ‘third way’ of theorising technological and pedagogical innovation in schools, one which is more informed by students as critical stakeholders and thus more relevant to the lived culture within the school, and its complex relationship to students’ lives outside of school. It is in this relationship that we find an explanation for how these individuals can, at the one time, be digital kids and analogue students.

This research aims to investigate, describe and analyze the impact of digital technologies on the forms of action in contemporary performing arts. We believe that digital technologies contribute to change the linear and frontal action, precipited from a human actor and characteristic of traditional art forms, giving rise to processes in which human and non-human elements interact in an ecosystemic and networked configuration. From a historical and theoretical path that seeks to reflect on the presence and the participation of the technology in the performing arts - from the Greek theater to our times -, we present the perspective of the networked action, by which we intend to analyze the contemporary scene as an ecology and to think the new ways in which the relations between artist, spectator and work of art are organized in the context of the digital technologies. How to analyze, for instance, a work in which actors, in different physical locations, perform only by an Internet connection? What is the nature of the relationship with the space in this works, especially when compared to those anchored in a physical space? Finally, we intend, therefore, to analyze how the digital communications are altering the forms of art in our time. To develop our reflection, the research presents an analysis of representative cases, with works of Catalan-Spanish group La Fura dels Baus, the French Collectif Iduun and the Brazilian Coletivo Phila 7, in order to realize a theoretical and practical connection between their works and some of the concepts which we discuss, as presence, time, space and performativity of the technology.

This study investigated the use of digital technologies in secondary and post-secondary graphic communication education. Specifically it investigated: 1) the extent to which graphic communication educators utilized digital technologies in conjunction with instruction; 2) how selected factors affected graphic communication teachersâ implementation of digital technologies in their instruction; and, 3) how selected factors affected teacher and learner-centered instructional practices. The Levels of Technology Implementation (LoTi) and â Technology Use Surveyâ instruments were administered to secondary and post-secondary graphic communication educators via the Web to assess: 1) the frequency of use of 17 different digital technologies; 2) the nature and level of digital technology implementation; 3) current instructional practices; and 4) demographic characteristics. Graphic communication educators (n = 191) responding to the survey utilized a wide variety of digital technologies as part of their instruction. The data indicated that most students in graphic communication classes use computers, page layout software, and the Internet (for accessing digital content) â almost daily.â Most graphic communication students were creating and/or editing vector and raster graphics â several times a week.â Most graphic communication teachers reported student use of digital still cameras, digital instructional tutorials and the Internet (to solve technical problems) was limited to â several times a month,â while most students were creating digital multimedia projects only â several times each year.â Most respondents chose â neverâ to describe studentsâ use of: digital video cameras, digital drawing tablets, creating and/or editing Web pages with a WYSIWYG or HTML editors, digital spreadsheets, digital databases, and digital animations. Findings from this study further indicate graphic communication educators demonstrate high to extremely high skill levels using computers for personal use and implement digital technologies in ways that begin to shift the learning environment from teacher-centered to student-centered, but may not be effectively updating their curriculum to reflect current graphic communication industry workforce needs.

This study delineates the globalized context of the present time, where Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) can be understood as opportunities of citizenship for excluded groups who find themselves at the margins of local and global human development in the era of information, such as the communities in the districts of São Gonçalo do Rio das Pedras and Milho Verde in the Vale do Jequitinhonha, Minas Gerais — one of the poorest regions in the country. As a major goal, this study intended to identify how information originating from the telecenters of the Rede Rural de Telecentros Comunitários, of the NGO Gemas da Terra, has contributed to the social inclusion of these communities; to analyze the project for installing a telecenter for the communities studied; to verify any actions aimed at the integration of those who attend the telecenters with the other people of the community, to prevent a possible concentration of opinions and alienation between the two groups; and to point out results of the actions undertaken by the communities and their consequent practical influence on the daily life of local society. The methodology includes a document analysis of the Guia Gemas da Terra de Telecentros Rurais, non-participant observation at the telecenters, and semi-structured interviews with he users, volunteers, and representatives of the community organizations of the regions studied, where the dissemination and the use of the ICTs have been regarded by the communities as important supporters for improving conditions of life of the population by increasing opportunities for information, work, income, education, and leisure. Among the conclusions reached by this study, it was noted that the greatest social contribution of the pilot project of the NGO Gemas da Terra was to show the communities involved in the project the potential that the Internet offers to these districts, especially to the common people. Nevertheless, from the results obtained by this study, it became evident that the long way to be covered by informational inclusion toward the effective contribution of social questions in marginalized and integrated groups in the information era, was not totally explicit in the area studied.

This thesis examines the paths and practices of digital artists navigating within the multimedia sectors of Montreal. Through the study of the paths of eleven digital artists based in Montreal we found that production practices in digital arts cannot be reduced to the logic of production specific to a single place, whether a private company, a digital arts center or a university. The issue of maintaining these practices leads one to pay attention to the plurality of elements that inform their perpetual (re)constitutions. This requires new ways of theorizing digital artists' paths and practices. We propose a new way of conceptualizing these paths - as trajectories - to highlight the plurality of ways the digital art practices are articulated. They are thus considered in terms of their co-constitutive mediations with different elements. We have identified three sets of elements to account for the maintenance of the practices in digital arts and through which these unfold their multiple effectivities. The first set covers the technologies involved in digital art practices. The second set relates to the digital arts community and the organizational modes characteristic of those locales. Finally, the third set deals with the relationship between the worlds of business and practices in digital arts. These three sets of elements contribute in various ways to the establishment, maintenance and singularity of digital arts practices that deploy their effectivities far beyond a circumscribed or specialized social space.

The subject of this thesis is VJing, a term referring to the work performed by the VJ (Video or Visual Jockey) consisting of creating and manipulating several visual sources in real-time through technological mediation and for an audience, in synchronization to music. This study intends to put this practice in perspective by considering it as a specific work made over the image, questioning its poietic paradigm based on synaesthesia as well as the performative context in which it takes place. Borrowing the concept of Remediation from Jay David Bolter and Richard Grusin, we study the various processes by which VJing re-appropriates, both in form and content, some constitutive properties of DJing and electronic music, as it also extends directly or indirectly some processes of union of the visual and the aural as it has been experimented in cinema and video. Based on a corpus of about a hundred of VJ works (performance extracts, mixes made for video distribution), our methodological approach consists of conducting several comparative analysis with different works taken from avant-garde cinema, experimental cinema, video art and music videos, in order to progressively defining the specific identity of VJing. By combining theoretical, historical and aesthetic perspectives, we analyze the means by which this practice has established a technological and projective device over time to achieve producing audio-visual objects in real-time based on the constant dialogue between moving pictures and music (or soundtrack) and we try to see how this kind of performance, taking place in the context of new media, mainstreamed remix and "expanded cinema", echoes with the avant-garde tradition and the pictorial, musical as well as cinematic legacy of Visual Music

The UK's E-Government agenda was found on the principles of improving the quality of services offered to the public by Central and Local Government. This would be made possible through various national projects. Most notable were the use of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and Community Informatics involving the use of public libraries and outreach workers. However there is growing fear on the emergence of inequalities between the information rich and information poor termed the 'digital divide'. This has prompted the subject of research - to explore the reality of e-government in reducing social exclusion. Both qualitative and quantitative research techniques are used to this end. Analysis is made on the use of CRM in 27 Local Authorities including a detailed case study at Newham Council and a public survey in Salford. Universal access and social inclusion is tackled through the analysis of public libraries in Salford offering ICT services. In addition the effects of free ICT courses organised by Salford City Council on a number of community groups was included in the survey. The findings confirm the widespread use of CRM and reveal a series of barriers to its success. These include a lack of skilled CRM staff, inefficiencies in channel management, high emphasis on technology, and low levels of ICT usage. Results from the public library survey also revealed some barriers. Inadequate staffing levels, inappropriate training, and lack of IT support were all identified. In addition the library failed to attract novices and new users. The evaluation of Community Informatics in Salford showed the problems faced by outreach workers. As well as providing some academic research in a field lacking representation in IS research (due largely to recent emergence), the thesis also contributes to E-Government practice by, highlighting issues often over looked in its implementation, addressing its failures, and providing some reasoning on the current situation.

This thesis aims to deepen our understanding of contemporary cultural production. It examines the experiences of ‘under-the-radar’ or grassroots musicians in electronic dance music (EDM), who use digital technologies to make and circulate music as part of their musical practices. Placing grassroots musical activities in the context of contemporary cultural production, this thesis asks two key questions: 1) to what extent have changes associated with digital communication technologies facilitated the musical practices of grassroots musicians? and, 2) how do these changes affect grassroots musicians’ experiences? The analysis focuses on three elements of cultural production: a) motivations and working conditions; b) learning strategies and practices to make and perform music live; and c) the ways musical content is circulated and promoted online. Qualitative research methods are used to investigate participants’ experiences and practices as cultural producers. Data from ethnographic approaches include in-depth semi-structured interviews and participant observation (face-to-face and online). This microanalysis of musicians’ activities is analysed in relation to a macro view of the political economy of online platforms and music industries, and the larger socio-cultural context of EDM. This thesis argues that while digital communication technologies provide grassroots EDM musicians with significant benefits, there are still considerable dilemmas and problems facing those who take their musical practices seriously – most notably aspiring professionals. Benefits include output for creative expression, learning opportunities, lower(ed) entry-level requirements for making and playing music, and convenient online music circulation. Main challenges include building a career, entrepreneurial and networked sociality, promotional incentives, and structural inequalities. A key objective is to move beyond perspectives that overemphasise advantages offered by digital technologies to cultural producers.

This research explores the development of discourses of information society and the claims which have been made as to the transformative capacities of information and communication technologies (ICT) in particular. It explores the experiences of groups affiliated to two women's centres in the city of Salford, England. These centres, and associated groups, are situated within two economically disadvantaged areas which could be said to be peopled with "the information poor". The research argues that the enthusiasm with which technology has often been placed before such communities has been inspired by debates which have largely taken place at a high level of abstraction and generalisation and have not been grounded and connected to the needs of the residents of "real world", physically based localities. The importance of locality, of "situated knowledge", of networks built around trust and shared experience it suggests, have been largely disregarded and the global, the expert and disembodied community unconstrained by the limits imposed by place have been perceived as the most significant relationships in contemporary western societies. This has distorted perceptions of more traditional and locally-based, face-to-face interaction which has been considered limiting, insular and in many ways as looking backward rather than forward. From these perceptions have arisen a terminology which places responsibility for success or failure on the individual and the community (the digital underclass) and which suggests that a need for experts and professionals to enlighten and educate certain groups (the information poor) in order that they can be enabled and empowered in the new digital age. The research argues that this discourse, and the assumptions which lie behind it, have infused policy agendas around widening access to technology and informed many models which aim to introduce these technologies into such communities. The research concludes that there has been a disproportionate interest in technology and its powers to transform and a concomitant disregard of the human potential and abilities which enable technology to work and the personal and social relationships which will facilitate its use.

This text deals with digital literacy at the French Post Office Company. As the firm worried about stress at work, a “Grand dialogue” was organized to estimate this level and take actions against it. At the same time, using this corporate communication, the company settled the “Lean management” to change the organization. On this occasion, that was an opportunity for a social worker to join a working group and study with an action-research the consequences for workers on their mental suffering.Besides after considering the links between psychological risks and digital literacy, he showed that it was not true for the postal workers. Indeed the actions that had been put in place in the company were effective help and much more, that the communication of organisations is a protection against psychological risks and social exclusion. However the action-research shows that the social workers were actually suffering from psychological risks and then they had set up strategies by using technologies to get better

There is a well-known expression that reads: “Communication is key”. That applies to our everyday life, work, relationships and more. Communication helps to make sure everyone is informed, and by doing so, avoiding misunderstandings. Effective and valuable internal communication is also a success factor and an essential part of an organizations’ structure. This study aimed to help staff at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Örnsköldsvik hospital. This paper presents results from a study performed, with the objective to investigate how a digital dashboard should be designed to make management and responsible specialist feel confident that they reach out to all team members and also receives communicated information in a hospital environment. This was done by conducting a user-centered design process to analyze, design and implement a digital dashboard that later on was used in a final study including a test period and evaluation. For a period of 2 weeks, the implemented digital dashboard was tested at the ICU in a hospital. After that period, the dashboard was evaluated by the staff members using a questionnaire, and an interview with the responsible administrator of content. The result suggest that the management and responsible specialist felt that the digital dashboard makes them reach out to all other team members better, compared to their current communication channels. In addition, the vast majority of team members felt that they receive communicated information better. By using a digital dashboard as an internal communication platform, information exchange within the staff at the ICU was improved.

Globalization and the rise of the Information Society pose many challenges to developing nations. In adherence to the Millennium Development Goal of digital inclusion, the government of the Dominican Republic established a national program of community technology centers, or telecenters, that aim to promote digital literacy among the poor. This study examined how these telecenters promote the adoption of information and communication technologies (ICTs) and tested whether perceived structural factors, individual motivation or demographics predict adoption. Results from a survey conducted in the rural villages of El Seybo, Navarrete, and Oviedo confirm that telecenter users learn how to use information and communication technologies as a resource for information about civic life, entertainment, and professional development. The study concludes that telecenters can succeed in decreasing digital poverty, provided issues of sustainability are addressed with consistent and continued government funding and support. The field of information and communication technologies for development (ICT4D) is in its infancy and has yet to develop strong methodological or theoretical standards. This study of ICT adoption and telecenter use in rural areas of the Caribbean contributes empirical evidence to the literature of this emerging discipline.

Our daily life is pervaded by the use of digital information and communication technology, a fact that also takes place in the education arena. The design teaching activity has absorbed a series of computerized resources in recent decades. The recognition that the Design field has an ideological character makes us think about how designers perform in society. This research is situated at the intersection of technological issues as applied to education with the ideological character of the design activity. Aiming at contributing to the understanding of multiple possibilities of designers performance in society, this study raises the subjective dimensions of the teaching and learning activities through technological mediation. The question of the extent to which teachers make use of Design subjective dimensions arising from the use of digital technologies permeates the whole research. The teaching and learning practices observation took place in Design undergraduate classes at PUC-Rio, in which a triadic relationship between teachers, students and digital technologies happened. The field research was based on the principles of qualitative research and participant observation. The interactional sociolinguistics approach was also used in order to help the interpretation process of collected data. The question of subjectivity – understood as collective, polyphonic and heterogeneous – is based on Guattari and permeates and underlies the whole study. In this research, Heidegger and Simondon are authors who bring basic concepts for the understanding of the relationship between man and technique. It has been verified, among other observations, that the use of digital information and communication technology in the pedagogical context proved to be a significant expression of the Design field as well as a representation of the field itself.

The educational digital games are both used at school and at home by children. However, if used at home, how should parent's be able to tell a child learning progress in the game when they have limited knowledge in children's education? The purpose of this thesis is enhance the knowledge on how to design a digital interface that communicates the learning progress of a child to its parents. This by establishing a suggested framework on this subject. To be able to create the framework the Design thinking method were used. First suggestions, based on literature and interviews with teachers, for the design and framework were created. Then a Hight fidelity prototype of the digital interface based in the suggestions were designed. And lastly the prototype where tested in a Usability test. The usability test showed what in the suggestions that worked. The parts that worked were summarized in the suggested framework that the study where successful in creating. The framework contained both suggestion in how to visually represent a learning progress and how to communicate it.

Digital transformation is evolving, and it is driving at the helm of the digital evolution. The amount of information accessible to us has revolutionized the way we gather information. Mobile technology and the immediate and ubiquitous access to information has changed how we engage with services including healthcare. Digital technology and digital transformation have afforded people the ability to self-manage in different ways than face-to-face and paper-based methods through different technologies. This study focuses on exploring the use of the most commonly used digital health technologies in the healthcare sector and how it affects physicians’ daily routine practice. The study presents findings from a qualitative methodology involving semi-structured, personal interviews with physicians from Sweden and a physician from Spain. The interviews capture what physicians feel towards digital transformation, digital health technologies and how it affects their work. In a field where a lack of information regarding how physicians work is affected by digital health technologies, this study reveals a general aspect of how reality looks for physicians. A new way of conducting medicine and the changed role of the physician is presented along with the societal implications for physicians and the healthcare sector. The findings demonstrate that physicians’ role, work and the digital transformation in healthcare on a societal level are important in shaping the future for the healthcare industry and the role of the physician in this future.

Cities, as a daily relationship and income production laboratory, are nowadays a decisive element for building solutions capable of addressing the challenges of the planet. Clusters of people, products and activities constitute a large complex of challenging factors of sustainability issues. However, spatial models, supported by zoning activities and physical accessibility —predominantly mobility incentive-intensive vehicles—can produce systemic diseconomies, impact the environment, as well as delay, segregate and degrade the community life of cities. In this continuous expansion process, the cities in less developed regions, such as Asia, Africa, and Latin America / Caribbean, consolidate with the conformation of Megacities, requiring a new interpretation for models of mobility, that are able to restore public spaces and promote the possibilities of community life. Under these conditions, in the field of information and communication technologies, it can be observed an increasingly frequent use of the Internet by young populations. This increase impact virtual mobility and connectivity by providing a new cycle in the urban space. A new way of living is defined: “you go and come, without leaving your seat”. This paper presents an approach based on location theory and the principle of accessibility as a training value of urban landscapes and the concepts of microeconomics and consumer theory. It also considers the potential use of the Internet and the emergence of virtual displacement, as new elements to consider when planning the mobility of megacities. How to move in urban areas is a major issue that must be solved for the development of cities of the future. Basically, it is pursued the perception of the changes reflected in the value of time and marginal income users and behavioral consequences arising from this perception of usefulness and influence produced by the use of digital technologies in the realization of urban trips.

Public areas are more and more equipped with digital screens that are used to inform or promote a particular product. This is a way to communicate with the people on that area. The idea is to get people's attention, make them read and take in information and possibly buy the product that is marketed. This type of digital display is called digital signage and can also be used as an information channel of a company where information directed to employees and visitors is displayed. CGI Östersund has a screen placed in their office that works as such an information channel. This thesis is about investigating and analyzing the current presentation and creating a new solution with a custom interface that will be more effective and engage more people. The new solution is interactive and clickable with the help of a mouse. A user study has been done using a Kinect sensor to see how many people are watching the screen, how long they look at the screen and from what distance. This data was also supplemented by a survey sent to the employees at CGI Östersund. The result of the user study shows that there was no significant difference between the previous solution and the new one. This may be due to two main reasons: the lack of time in which the experiment was performed and the location of the digital screen that is not currently optimal.

Colombia has some 2.5 million emigrants (KNOMAD 2016), many of whom likely experience diaspora as a state of mind and transnationalism as a feature of their familial interactions. Storytelling constitutes an intersection at which individuals and families create and recreate themselves. Today, much of this process is mediated via information and communication technologies (ICTs). Hence, the central question guiding the thesis is: How do ICTs catalyze and constrain storytelling within transnational families? Drawing from information gathered through in-depth semi-structured interviews with six Colombian families with members who immigrated to Canada from Colombia, this thesis investigates the technologically mediated familial interactions and storytelling of 12 adult Colombians residing in Montreal, and six of their respective family members who remain in Colombia. The participants report that prior to migrating their familial stories were mainly oral and occurred in very warm face-to-face situations whereas after migrating their family narratives and stories are being altered in various ways through the presence, interactive, and multimodal affordances ICTs provide.

DIGITAL BOUNDARIES explores the notion of how ICTs and mobile devices can influence the social programming, spatial conditions and construction of public architecture. This topic is derived from the study of Urban Informatics which looks at three key actors: people, place and technology. This can be seen in South Africa where many young individuals inhabit public buildings in the urban environment purely to be connected to wireless internet through their mobile devices. This is done so that they are able to do research for studies, look for job opportunities or socialise. This digital infrastructure then becomes an important aspect of the public realm, not only for personal benefit and need, but for attracting people to place. Situated in the Nyanga Junction precinct south of Gugulethu, the architectural proposition looks at adding digital infrastructure to this complex precinct in the informal area of Cape Town through three scales of architecture; small, medium and large. The small scale is that of Wi-Fi hotspots at street level embedded within the informal market at ten strategically located sites. The medium scale interventions are upgrades to four existing trade posts elevated above at first floor level. Lastly the large scale which is of catalytic and institutional architecture at two proposed sites, of which one is the main architectural focus of the design dissertation and explored further. The architectural programme provides spaces for: IT learning and skills development to help individuals seek employment, collaborative hubs for those developing new entrepreneurial ideas, and youth hubs for students to study and socialise. These three scales and their locality have been informed by social thresholds developed through the theory and technology studies that have been influential in the urban strategy of the design dissertation. It has created a framework for digital infrastructure to be implemented that will help enhance the public realm for a safer and more conducive urban environment.

This research focuses on symbolic, artistic and representational issues linked to Web and connected systems, such as mobile phones and tablets. Because the screen, i.e. the monitor, is now considered in its mobility, it has to be perceived as a window opened toward the outside. However, the monitor also sketches a lanscape where cyberespace, beyond its logical nature, has to be combined with a reality that aftermath becomes fragmented and recomposed. This applies to the steps we spread while walking in the street, soon transcribed in data on our smartphone : from a simple walk to a track that edges into the city. In this context, city becomes a kind of text and digital artefacts participate to its rewriting, juxtaposing new maps. As city represents the fragmented and the multiple, cyberspace implies a vision of urbanity where man merges himself with technology in a specific way: virtual worlds, along with videogames, science-fiction litterature and movies bring us back to the cyberpunk movement, and before, with the ’shock’ of cities experienced during the modernity by Georg Simmel and Walter Benjamin. This chaos of senses, space and time which defines modern cities is also typical of a technological power that tends to lead the society. Far from orwellian visions, the current advanded technology, although it appears crossed by political, technological and social matters, has to be situated in the context of cybersensbility. Actually in this era of networks and mature technology stands a new vision of technology that implies new practices, new attempts, and makes the cybersensibility concept tangible, as it is opposed to a passive conception in the use of technologies

In many industries the tracking and tracing of products within the supply chain is required by law. Companies in the metal working industry exchange so-called material test reports, which specify the product’s properties, the customer’s requirements, and serve as an assurance between the supplier and the customer. Internet technologies have changed the way companies exchange information and conduct business. In the metal working industry companies can implement an intermediary platform and make the exchange of material test reports more efficient. Furthermore, a client application that allows the company to export test reports from their information system directly to the intermediary can significantly decrease the processing costs. This inter-organizational collaboration can render an increase in productivity for customers and suppliers.

The main goal of the thesis is to analyze how companies in a supply chain can exchange documents with an intermediary over the protocol SOAP as well as support companies by showing a structured procedure for how to achieve security in a system using SOAP. SOAP is a platform independent XML-based communication protocol. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is of major importance in e-business applications, because of its platform, language, and vendor independent way of describing data. As a universal data format, it enables the seamless connection of business systems.

SOAP does not provide any security and is usually implemented over HTTP, which allows it to pass through firewalls. Companies are only prepared to join an inter-organizational collaboration if IT-security is guaranteed. In the exchange of material test reports, security has two objectives. The first is to replace the handwritten signature in the paper-based document exchange. The second is to guarantee security for the material test reports as well as for the information intermediary.

SOAP’s extensibility model allows organizations to develop new extensions, which build upon the protocol and provide functions which aren’t specified. Specifications for attachments as well as for security should be implemented in the electronic document exchange. To design a secure system, each security concept, such as confidentiality, authentication and integrity, can be analyzed in its context and the appropriate standard can thereafter be implemented.

In the context of Passive Optical Networks (PON), operators are looking for innovative solutions to increase aggregated data-rate, split-ratio and reach. Another requirement is that transceivers should be as low-cost as possible. The optical Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) technique can improve performance of the transmission in terms of data-rate and reach as compared to classical single-carrier On-Off Keying (OOK) modulation. At the same time, the silicon photonics technology can lower the cost per unit of the transceiver, due to its mass production and E/O integration capabilities. Optical OFDM has already shown its potential using commercially available optical components. However, its use with silicon photonics Directly-Modulated Lasers (DML) and modulators is more challenging. The objective of this work is to study the performance of OFDM -based solutions for future PON, using silicon photonics transmitters. For that purpose, a dedicated simulation platform is developed. The OFDM modem is implemented, as well as models of silicon photonic devices built during this thesis. These models are validated by characterizing physical components available for test. In parallel, an experimental test-bed is developed. The silicon photonics transmitters are benchmarked with commercial-available transmitters for OFDM-based optical systems. For Intensity-Modulated/Directly-Detected (IM/DD) links, the use of optical OFDM with adaptive bit and power loading is proposed to maximize spectral efficiency. Two types of silicon photonics transmitters are considered: directly modulated III/V-on-silicon lasers (experiment) and external optical modulators such as Mach-Zehnder Modulator (MZM) (simulation) and ring-resonator (simulation and experiment). Experimental results show that the hybrid DML can provide more than 10Gbps aggregated data-rate over at least 50km, which is a requirement for future uplink PON (from the subscriber to the central office). For the silicon ring modulator, because of the high coupling loss in and out of the photonic chip, reach was limited to 20km for a data-rate higher than 10Gbps. These are the first experimental demonstrations of OFDM modulation with hybrid III/V-on-silicon lasers and silicon ring-resonator modulator. Besides, simulation results show that reach can be indeed improved up to 100km if the optical signal is amplified or the coupling loss reduced. A modulation technique called Single-Side Band (SSB)-OFDM is known to improve the [bandwidth x reach] product of the link, as compared to IM/DD (Dual-Side Band (DSB)) systems. However, it requires expensive transmitters with several discrete optical components. As silicon photonics technology allows a very high level of integration between different optical components and between electrical and optical devices, a silicon optical IQ modulator enabling ac{SSB}-ac{OFDM} technique is investigated. Simulation results of a study-case reveal that a relatively low optical budget penalty (up to 3dB) of the silicon photonics transmitters as compared to the LiNbO3 modulator is achieved. The solutions presented in this thesis are demonstrated to be compliant with future PON in terms of data-rate, with relatively low bandwidth (<6.25GHz) electronics. This is a great asset for the considered application. The driving voltages required for typical IM/DD systems showed to be closer to what CMOS driving circuitry can provide (about 2Vpp). Recent developments on high-speed digital signal processors and D/A-A/D converters, using CMOS technologies, make optical-OFDM an attractive solution for future PONs as full-Silicon-transmitters could be used

Society is digital and lives benefits, challenges and paradigms of this age. Changes are blistering and the time of adaptation to them is shorter each day. Human communication relations with machines are modifying in a deep way, mainly audiovisual screens multiplication that spread through people s life, that are assisted by uncountable Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) and other ubiquitous displays that converge in a radical way. Technological profusion and sensorial appropriation of contemporaneous instruments are tangible examples of that. With this scenario in a first plan, our research proposes contextualize, describe and analyze new faces and interfaces of communication that materialize in current digital audiovisual platforms, more and more mobile, connected and faster. That way, it undertakes an exploratory study that would mainly worth by specific bibliographic survey and statistical data analysis. The research indicated that the multiple screens, in fact, are changing the dynamics of communication processes, which need to be understood again.

In the context of a widespread dissemination of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in France and within the European Union during the past two decades, of renewal and expansion affecting most universities, our thesis focuses on an analysis of ICT use dynamics in higher education. It aims at grasping, beyond the mere questioning on the causes or effects of changes associated with the use of educational ICT, the interaction between ICT, performances and “innovativeness”.Our developments are structured around four chapters. The first chapter aims at understanding the dynamics associated with various uses of ICT by in undergraduate economics and management students from three French universities. This chapter will aim at showing how extensive use of ICT can induce an increase in student performance as measured by the average overall grades on their exams at the end of the year. The second chapter aims at understanding how students’ ICT uses impact their ability to innovate. Our results show clearly that ICT use contributes to the accumulation of digital skills (in computer and Internet use). These skills are changing the nature of learning and improve the students’ innovative capacity, which certainly increases their economic performance on the job market. The third chapter seeks to show that there is a wide variety of ICT uses by higher education teachers in France. Significant inequalities are seen in both a qualitative and quantitative points of view. Our results indicate that there are many digital divides related to these various uses. The fourth chapter focuses on understanding the relation between ICT use, the accumulation of e-skills and teachers’ innovation capacities. Our results support the thesis that having instrumental competences is a necessary condition for effective activation of informational competences which are themselves necessary for effective deployment of strategic competences related to ICT.Finally, our research has validated the theoretical assumption that the gaps in digital use would persist and affect the higher education sector despite the development and democratization of ICT. Our results have also opened discussions on the various digital skills (e-skills). Thus, we could show that there are distinct layers of digital literacy which should be taken into account to better meet the deficit observed among students and teachers

Contemporary education is included in a context of fast and dynamic social and cultural changes, especially with the advancement and incorporation of Digital Information and Communication Technologies (DICT) in daily life. In the Information Society, the Age of Knowledge, we must go beyond the ability to read, write and type. Schools, in turn, slowly try to adapt themselves to the demands of the digital world in which their agents are included. The high school, that is the focus of concern and reflection by all those involved in the educational process of this kind, tries to achieve its proposed comprehensive education for young people in order to prepare them to get a job and exercise their citizenship. For the Portuguese discipline, it was reserved the mission of combining the teaching of the standard portuguese rules with discursive genres in order to promote digital inclusion of students in different circumstances of literacy that they are submitted. In this context, this work investigated: What perceptions of training processes emerge when students reflect on pedagogical practices and experiences in Portuguese classes in activities mediated by educational portal? The overall objective of the research is to provoke the reflection of teachers, so they rethink their teaching practices and their role in the educational process in order to promote a more consistent educational experience with the reality of the students. The adopted methodology was the qualitative research of investigative nature, in narrative form, based on the work presented by Clandinin and Connelly (2011). Because of the inclusion in the scenario and affective ties to the participants, the challenge of developing an action research was assumed, thus, the adopted investigative tools were: semi-structured interview, logbook, activities in the portal, informal conversations and field notebook. The analysis of the data allowed the elaboration of eight categories of analysis, emerging from the narratives of the participants: interaction and communication; enlarged classroom; management of learning; the record of oneself and others; collaborative and transformative learning; promotion of research; self-study; and challenges. The results achieved indicated reflections that do not end in the pages of this work. Among them it is possible to highlight: the importance of listening to the student in order to improve and review the pedagogical proposals; the test, in daily practice, is essential, it is the search of something beyond the traditional in favor of a defined learning objective; the desire of learning can arouse in the students the interest in knowledge, making them more autonomous in their choices and paths; the DICT can assist in the process of teaching and learning, but require involvement of the subjects, because they, as instruments, do not constitute knowledge, are the agents, by the use of the DICT, that get the best of their potential. Future work may continue this study and bring great additions to contemplate the influences of the use of DICT daily at school, which will certainly be of great contribution to the current scenario of Brazilian education.

This study investigated how experienced teachers learned Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) during their professional development. With the introduction of ICT, experienced teachers encountered change becoming virtually displaced persons – digital immigrants; new settlers – endeavouring to obtain digital citizenship in order to survive in the information age. In the process, these teachers moved from learning how to push buttons, to applying software, and finally to changing their practice. They learned collectively and individually, in communities and networks, like immigrants and adult learners: by doing, experimenting and reflecting on ICT. Unfortunately, for these teachers-as-pedagogues, their focus on pedagogical theory during the action research they conducted, was not fully investigated or embraced during the year-long study. This study used a participant observation qualitative methodology to follow teachers in their university classroom. Interviews were conducted and documentation collected and verified by the teacher educator. The application of Kolb‘s, Gardner‘s, and Vygotsky‘s work allowed for the observation of these teachers within their sociocultural contexts. Kolb‘s work helped to understand their learning processes and Gardner‘s work indicated the learning abilities that these teachers valued in the new ICT environment. Meanwhile Vygotsky‘s work – and in particular three concepts, uchit, perezhivanija, and mislenija – presented a richer and more informed basis to understand immigration and change. Finally, this research proposes that teachers learn ICT through what is termed a hyperuchit model, consisting of developments; action; interaction; and reflection. The recommendation is that future teacher university ICT professional learning incorporates this hyperuchit model.

The main theme of this thesis is the impact of the sudden transition on service delivery caused by the COVID 19 pandemic on social workers and career practitioners in related fields. Like most professional careers that the sudden takeover of the virus has obstructed, the field of social work has been one ofthe professions that the global pandemic has negatively impacted because of its heavy reliance on face-to-face interactions. By employing research methods, challenges faced while working remotely by the social workers were identified, and a main design concepts was proposed in supporting the work of the social workers.
