Digital tools have contributed to developing and changing the construction industry in recent years. Today, some construction companies use digital tools when planning in larger projects to plan work environment's work better and minimize the problematic risks. The purpose of the study is to gain an understanding of how the work environment and risk identification are strengthened when the company applies modern tools in production. The work is limited to only clients / consultants and construction companies using digital tools. This report is based on three parts consisting of a literature study, a questionnaire survey and qualitative interviews conducted with six actors from different construction companies. Initially, a literature study was conducted to unravel theoretical concepts related to the work environment and digital tools. The interview method provided deeper information about how the work environment and digital tools are combined in different activities and the problems that actors experience in reality. Above all, the results have shown the great benefit of implementing digital tools in the risk management process and making the work preparation in the model, this leads to correctly identifying risky elements in the earlier stage and ensuring the working environment on the construction site. The models' areas of use are large, they can be used for visualizations, collision checks and risk analyzes, etc. By using, for example, BIM and Buildsafe as methods and communication tools during the work environment encourages other partners such as designers, contractors and safety specialists to involve risk assessment. By using VDC working methods, the designers can also simulate how a building is constructed and detect any risk factors in advance. The better the planning, the better the working environment. The future for the application of digital tools in the work environment looks bright. And today there is no doubt that the work environment can be improved with the help of digital tools. The study also shows that much depends on the Swedish Work Environment Authority and the customers requiring how digital tools are to be used more frequently, thus streamlining the construction process and further identifying risk in the future.

The construction industry is hazardous with a high number of accidents compared to other industries, which is an indication that actions to prevent those are required. Meanwhile, digitalization is successively established in the construction industry, however, not with the same pace as in other industries. Digitalization generates several positive effects on occupational health and safety, but has so far had limited success in the production phase. As of today, the present status of digitalization in order to improve occupational health and safety in the Swedish construction industry remains unclear. Therefore, the purpose of this thesis is to identify the current status and describe the existing opportunities and challenges with digitalization for occupational health and safety. Moreover, another reason for this study is to identify important factors for the implementation of digital tools and find out what the future may hold. In order to study the present status, a qualitative interview study was performed for the data collection where nine representatives participated. The results of the study show that actions and efforts in occupational health and safety has improved over the last years, although much more is yet to be done. Furthermore, our results show that digital tools are often used in occupational health and safety. There is, however, a discussion around what is digital and what is not. Templates in different forms, for instance, are still used in various situations and are not to be seen as digital for some. As of today, there are great benefits with the digitalization of the work of occupational health and safety, including increased control, time savings and easier communication. On the other hand, there are a number of challenges, including the vast number of digital tools, a legislation that still not fully approves a complete digitalization for this purpose, and it exists a resistance to change. To be able to more easily implement digital tools, it is important to highlight benefits, start small, identify key persons that can lead the change and provide clear strategies. In the future, there is a wish for a greater degree of standardizations, increased requirements from clients and finally involvement of more project participants.

For many years, organizations have tried to adapt to the increasing digitalization in the world. However, when the COVID-19 pandemic began to spread around the world in the beginning of 2020, many unprepared companies had to change their routines drastically. The purpose of this study is to examine whether and how leadership roles in creative teams are affected by a shift from a physical to a virtual work environment. In order to answer the research question a qualitative method with physical interviews, video interviews and interviews through email has been used. A total of 12 respondents participated from two different companies. Four of the respondents had management positions and the remaining were co-workers with creative roles. The collected data has been transcribed and analyzed using a content analysis method. This content analysis method resulted in six different categories; leadership, communication, group dynamics, motivation, productivity and creativity. The findings suggest that the leaders have adapted their leadership roles in several different ways since the shift from a physical to a virtual workplace, and that the co-workers’ roles also have been affected. Based on the results, a virtual leadership seems to require more structure, explicitness and awareness than a physical leadership. The co-workers were also given more responsibility and an increased self- leadership. They planned and reviewed their own daily work, as well as took more initiative when it came to communication and problem solving.

The main purpose with this work was to analyze thecurrent problem areas within quality-, environment and work environment in theconstruction industry, and to develop a potential improvement which results inincreased efficiency in the subject of speaking. The study’s focus applied on thecurrent working method which is used today within quality-, environmental andwork environment. A comparison has been made to see if this method is the mostefficient according to time and economic aspects or if there is another methodthat is more profitable. The result has been produced by doing a literaturestudy followed by a series of case studies. The case study includedobservations from two different construction sites, an archive study of documentsassigned from our collaboration partners Peab and Aros Bygg & Förvaltningand finally from interviews with individuals whose competence is of value tothis work. To gain a wider understanding of the current problem areas, acomparison between the literature study and the case study has been made. Basedon the comparison a line of argument can be made and it highlights specific workstages that can be improved and increase its efficiency. Based on the result arecurring improvement point has arisen which was digitalization of the practicaland administrative work in the form of digital programs and tools, and here iswhere development can be made. It would benefit all personnel affected by thedaily work with quality-, environment and work environment in the constructionindustry which would result in their work being simplified and a lot more time efficient. The communication within the project can be improved with the help of digitalprogram and tools which may result in improvements regarding communication betweenthe different parties. Feedback and follow-up would be more accessible which inturn could contribute to improved experience feedback within and betweendifferent projects. As a result, all parties involved in the project will benefitfrom it during the whole project and afterwards.

The purpose of this essay is to investigate how trade unions and their work in the south ofSweden been affected by the Coronapandemic. The focus of this study is the employees workand the organisational work, mainly the organizational structure. This will be examined with aquantitative method using internet-based surveys. Our starting point is individuals withemployment or assignation in these organisations where the structural consequences of thepandemic on an organizational level is of interest. We want to highlighten the external andinternal communication, the work organisation and the experience of the employees fromtheir work situation and work environment. We also want to target wheather the participantswork-effort been affected against the organisations goals and purposes. Our material is basedon former research that we in a deductive way analyse our empirical findings against. Theexamination shows that a the trade unions have a less mechanical structure due to thecoronapandemic. It also shows a higher workload, poorer ergonimics and a negative impacton their internal and external communication.

Background: Digitalization is a contemporary phenomenon that is changing how the society, organizations and people live their lives and organize themselves. When digitalization changes organizational processes and the way people work, the boundaries between work and the ‘rest of life’ are being erased. To handle this change, organizations need a collective initiative where relationships between employees, leaders and managers must be handled, which is something that is called employeeship in a Swedish context. The digital transition has been accelerated as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, where a major shift to digital tools has taken place. Employees' conceptions about digitalization are divided and can be considered both positive and negative. There is a certain lack of research in employeeship, especially in a more modern and digitized context. With more digitized organizations, there are still questions about how it affects the employeeship. This creates an interest in examining employees' experiences of employeeship in a digital work environment. Research questions: RQ1: How do employees experience employeeship in a digital work environment? RQ2: Which importance does the digital work environment have for employees’ experience of commitment and meaningfulness? Purpose: The purpose of the study is to examine the meaning of employeeship in a digital work environment and value the importance of engagement and meaningfulness to gain an enhanced understanding. Method: Since the purpose of the study is to examine experiences a qualitative methodology has been used. This has been done through seven semi-structured digital interviews with employees from both private and public organizations through Zoom and Microsoft Teams. Results: A majority of employees experienced an increase in effectiveness and participation, however they also experienced a loss of social contact with their colleagues. A tendency of increased difficulties of concentration and new distractions was embossed when working in a digital work environment which lowered their commitment. Employees experienced meaningfulness from work duties, fellowship and contributing to society. The digital work environment eases the puzzle of everyday life however at a cost of lost social contact which employees experienced reducing the meaningfulness of work. Conclusion: The conclusion of the study is that the experiences of employeeship in a digital work environment are different and can be described as a double-edged sword. The digital work environment brings positive elements, such as efficiency and increased participation, as well as negative elements of impaired communication and fellowship. The importance of commitment and meaningfulness remains great, but the study also emphasized the importance of considering fellowship and cooperation for a constructive employeeship in a digital work environment.

This Master’s thesis research whether managers in Nacka municipality in Sweden consider their employees’ work environment, when implementing new digital systems. The research is written within the framework of a research project called KomDig. KomDig is an acronym in Swedish for Municipal and Digital. The research aims to increase awareness on the digital work environment. A qualitative method has been conducted, to gain a deeper understanding of how management in the municipal sector considers their employee’s working environment, when implementing new digital technology. Empirical data has been collected from twelve interviews with different managers and security officers at various units and departments within Nacka municipality. Empirical data has also been collected from the municipality´s websites, reports and governments documentation. The first three interviews were conducted through physical meetings, and the last nine where conducted through video calls like Teams or Zoom, due to the restrictions during the Corona pandemic. The theoretical framework evolves around the organizational theory, socio-technical approach as well as implementation theory. These theories have been selected to create an understanding of the importance of an organization’s structure when new digital systems are implemented as well as how new systems are implemented. In order to create an understanding of what is essential to maintain manageability and meaningfulness when work environment is changing, such as increased digitalization, the model KASAM has been utilized. KASAM is used to create a sense of coherence to the change of work environment, The research shows that management takes their employees´ work environment into account when implementing digital systems, however, the result shows that there is differences depending on which units that has been reviewed. There are examples of previous implementations where employees and customers have been negatively affected and where costs have radically increased. The newly introduced departments for digitalization along with new strategies for digitalization indicates that they now are on the right track in the way they are implementing new digital systems. Both management and employees are optimistic to continue the implementation together with the strategy for digitalization the result has created a good understanding for the aspects of importance in future implementations, which is promising for the municipality´s future development. The research also shows that NPM contributed to the municipality’s customer focus, results and effectiveness. It also shows that the municipality follows the trend towards increased digitalization in the public sector, which been advocated by the government.
