The dwarfgobies in the genus Eviota are currently represented by 111 valid described species, occurring throughout the Indo-Pacific Ocean except for the eastern Pacific region, mainly in coral-reef habitats. A dichotomous diagnostic key to 107 of these species is presented, with information on characters, type material, references for the original descriptions, distributions, and photographs of each species. All of the species described from the first, in 1871, up to April 2016 are included; four more described after that date are listed, but not included in the key.

A new gobiid species is described from ten specimens, 9.2 – 16.7 mm SL, collected from the Saudi Arabian Red Sea. The new species is most similar to Sueviota pyrios from the Gulf of Aqaba in the northern Red Sea. It differs from S. pyrios by having no large red spots on the dorsal and caudal fin elements, no elongate spines in the first dorsal fin, a shorter pelvic fin that does not reach the anus, branched pectoral fin rays, and a projecting lower jaw. The new species is further distinguished from all its congeners by a complete lack of cephalic sensory canals and pores. Specime

Sueviota pyrios is described as a new gobiid fish from a single male specimen, 16.5 mm SL, collected from the Gulf of Aqaba in the Red Sea. It is distinct from other described species of the genus in being bright orange-red in life, in having two vertically aligned, well-separated, reddish clusters of chromatophores on the pectoral-fin base (each with a blackish mark in the center of the cluster), the first two spines of the dorsal fin filamentous, 8 dorsal-fin soft rays, 8 anal-fin soft rays, 16 pectoral-fin rays (all unbranched), the fifth pelvic-fin ray with two branches, no pelvic frenum,

The complex is named for Eviota zebrina Lachner & Karnella, 1978, an Indian Ocean species with the holotype from the Seychelles Islands and also known from the Maldives, which was once thought to range into the Gulf of Aqaba and the Red Sea eastward to the Great Barrier Reef of Australia. Our analysis supports the recognition of four genetically distinct, geographically non-overlapping, species within what was previously called E. zebrina, with E. zebrina being restr
