The presence of simultaneous two ectopic foci of thyroid tissue (dual ectopic thyroid) is rare, and few cases have been reported in the literature. Commonly ectopic thyroid tissue is a midline structures, but the lateral location is possible but very rare. Background: The atypical location of organs and tissues in the human body is an important topic and a serious medical problem. Ectopic thyroid tissue is a rare and not fully explored condition. Asymptomatic forms of ectopic thyroid tissue usually do not require special treatment. However, symptomatic patients require special attention. For any localizations, such ectopy may be the only thyroid tissue in the body or exist simultaneously with the normal thyroid gland and have an increased tendency to cancerous transformation. Ectopic thyroid tissue may be found throughout the migration course of the thyroid gland. Thyroid ectopy may be partial or total. The most common location of ectopic thyroid tissue is in the tongue base (lingual thyroid). We discuss the computed tomography (CT) and radioisotope findings of a patient with ectopic lingual thyroid.

Abstract Background: Ectopic thyroid tissue is a rare entity with a prevalence of 1 per 300,000 persons. Malignancy in ectopic thyroid tissue is reported in <1% of these cases.[1] We report a case of aggressive papillary carcinoma in ectopic thyroid gland in a patient with Graves’ disease. Case: A 65-year old woman was incidentally found to have a 3.1 cm mass with coarse calcifications in the superior mediastinum on CT scan of chest. Ultrasound confirmed the presence of hypoechoic mass which was separate from thyroid. Additionally, a 0.5cm TI-Rad 4 left thyroid lobe nodule was found. FN

Introduction: Ectopic thyroid tissue may appear in any location along the trajectory of the thyroglossal duct from the foramen cecum to the mediastinum, as either a lingual thyroid or a thyroglossal duct cyst. In rare cases, aberrant migration of the gland can result in lateral ectopic thyroid tissue. As for native thyroid gland, ectopic tissues are subject to malignant transformation. Case Report: A 40-year-old female patient presented with a right-sided neck swelling. She had a history of treated Hodgkin’s lymphoma at the age of 16 years. Ectopic thyroid results from a migration defect of the developing gland during embryogenesis causing congenital hypothyroidism. But it has also been detected in asymptomatic individuals. This study aimed to investigate the histopathological, functional, and genetic features of human ectopic thyroids. Six samples were histologically examined, and the expression of the specific thyroid proteins was assessed by immunohistochemistry. Two samples were submitted to whole exome sequencing. The ectopic thyroid gland is a rare condition. In most cases, ectopic thyroid tissue is the only functioning thyroid tissue, but it may rarely be associated with a normal thyroid gland. Ectopic thyroid carcinoma within a thyroglossal duct cyst is a very rare entity, with controversial individual approaches. This encouraged us to present the case of a 31-year- old woman, with papillary thyroid carcinoma in the thyroid gland and in the thyroid ectopic tissue within the thyroglossal duct. Ectopic thyroid is a form of thyroid dysgenesis and is defined as the presence of thyroid tissue in an abnormal location. Its prevalence is about 1 per 1,00, 000-3,00,000 people, rising to 1 per 4,000-8,000 patients with thyroid diseases. The most common sites of ectopic thyroid are lingual (90%) and anterior neck (10%). They are usually diagnosed with hypothyroidism with a mass with, or without pressure symptoms in the 2nd or 3rd decade of life when there is increased demand of thyroid hormone. AbstractThyroid sonography has made substantial progress over the last decades in terms of spatial resolution and additional parameters including vascularity, perfusion, and elasticity of lesions. The improved depictability of thyroid nodules has led to a more detailed sonographic characterization of malignant thyroid nodules considering features like microcalcification, capsular invasion, and reduced elasticity. Thus, ultrasound (US) has become the most important single tool for risk assessment of thyroid nodules. Predominantly cystic and spongiform nodules as well as many nodules with a mixe

Glandular enlargement in the mediastinum is usually due to hyperplasia of thymus in the anterior mediastinum or thyroid enlargement with intramediastinal growth. Thymic enlargement is typically due to rebound hyperplasia associated with chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and stresses. Rebound thymic hyperplasia manifests as diffuse, symmetric enlargement of the thymus. MRI may be helpful in distinguishing thymic hyperplasia from neoplastic involvement of the thymus, as the former lose signal on opposed-phase T1-weighted MR imaging. The thyroid gland, which is the largest endocrine organ, secretes primarily thyroid hormones that play a critical role in the normal growth and development of the maturing human. In the adult, thyroid hormones maintain metabolic stability by regulating oxygen requirements, body weight, and intermediary metabolism. Thyroid function is under hypothalamic-pituitary control, and thus, like the gonads and adrenal cortex, it serves as a classical model of endocrine physiology. In addition, the physiological effects of thyroid hormones are regulated by complex extrathyroidal mechanisms resulting from

Abstract Mediastinal tumours fall into three general categories, the commonest being secondary bronchogenic carcinoma. Often the primary tumour is small and asymptomatic, even being undetectable in the case of small cell carcinoma. The second group entails systemic malignancy manifesting itself in the mediastinum. Lymphomas are characteristic of this group, though metastases from breast, renal, and gastrointestinal tract cancers are also common. Primary tumours of the organs or tissues of the mediastinum make up the third group and include thymomas, neurogenic tumours, germ cell tumours, ectop
