The article focuses on the specifics of video-excursions as a variety of the case-study method. The authors identify the major methodological problems of currently implemented tour-guide HE instructional courses, and reveal the key detriments to the students’ knowledge and skill development in the sphere of organization and realization of excursions. The authors describe the video-excursion case study method as a way of distance familiarization and content/quality/structure/technology evaluation of real-life museum excursions. The method presupposes problem-solving: the students are required to analyse the video recordings of excursions held at museums of different types, specializations and ranges of activity. The authors have developed an expert evaluation form which the students fill in while analyzing the video recording. The form consists of nine sections for an evaluation of the methodology and mastery of the tour guide, the content of the excursion, the specifics of interaction with a given group of tourists, the exhibition, functional and emotional impact. The article provides teacher recommendations and outlines the competences (content, activity, communicative, personal) that the video-excursion method serves to develop. The authors also emphasize that the method promotes the students’ expert skills (criteria setting, practical evaluation), which is conducive of learner autonomy.

The article analyzes the problem of communication between the guide and the audience in excursions on the topic of religious culture. The experience of conducting various types of religious excursions at Tomsk State Pedagogical University is presented: survey and thematic excursions by confessions, the religious component of the city excursion. The specificity of communication is highlighted on excursions conducted by a teacher or guide, and on excursions conducted by a representative of the confession. Methodical approaches typical for each type of excursion are determined, the results are analyzed. The authors identified the limitations characteristic of the traditional communication model based on the understanding of religious culture as an object external to the guide and the group. Such an excursion provides an initial acquaintance with the confession, but is ineffective if a deeper study of religion is required. This problem is caused by the contradiction between the phenomenological approach, which presupposes the study of religion within the framework of its own internal logic, and the externality of the guide in relation to religious culture. The ways of overcoming these limitations through a combination of immersion in a religious culture with external accessibility in relation to this culture are shown. Such a communication model is provided by an excursion led by a representative of the confession, who acts as a mediator, a mediator between the experience of the confession and the cultural environment. The conclusion is made about the system-forming role of the communicative aspect in a religious excursion and its specificity for this type of excursion, the need for different communication models to ensure the cognitive interest of students, including the need to involve representatives of religious confessions in conducting excursions.

Excursion activities in large cities of Russia demonstrate the increasing popularity of city tours and are undergoing numerous transformations, expressed both in thematic diversity and in the change in the content of individual excursions. This has an impact not only on the perception of urban space by sightseers – citizens and visitors, but also on the socio-cultural processes of the city and society in a broader sense. The article presents the results of an empirical study (included observation) of the content specificity of a number of city excursions around St. Petersburg as a city with the most actively developing excursion sphere. The content is analyzed in terms of: route and display objects; narrative and communication of the guide with the audience; activity activity, reflecting the solution of communicative tasks; the competence of the guide. The observation results are correlated with the provisions of scientific and methodological literature (authors of the early Soviet period – I. M. Grevs, N. P. Antsiferov, B. E. Raikov, N. A. Geinick, the era of «developed socialism» – B. V. Emelyanova , modern researchers – O. N. Orlova, A. G. Smirnova, I. I. Lisaevich, G. A. Leskova, N. A. Dobrina) and are presented in the form of generalized characteristics of the transformation of excursion content based on the phenomenological characteristics of the typology and content of a modern city excursion.

A critical analysis of the essence of the excursion was given. It is noted that the available definitions often make focus on the scientific function of the excursion, which actually is not important. It is also not possible to consider excursion as entertainment. This is its secondary feature. A certain change in the essence of excursion occurred as a result of technical progress, which led to some reduction of the role of the tour guide. It is now possible that excursion takes place without him. The excursion is not necessarily a collective event. An individual excursion is possible as well. A new definition of the excursion is given, which corresponds to its true essence: «excursion is a visit to interesting places in order to gain new knowledge and impressions. It is a way of spending free time and a method of getting of knowledge”. Thus, the most important function of the excursion is the getting of a new knowledge, which is a basis of other functions, in particular, educational one. In turn, knowledge is gained through the use of certain scientific methods. Typically, these methods are divided into empirical and theoretical ones, in other words, methods of data collection and methods of their processing. The first group of methods includes observation, measurement, experiment, survey. The most common method in the excursion is observation, which is at the same time an integral part of other, more complicated methods. Numerous examples are given about the use of these methods in excursions, which enrich excursions, activate excursionists. There are also numerous theoretical methods of cognition: description, explanation, comparison, analogy, analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction, systematization, classification, and some others. Among these methods, the most important in the excursion is a description. In many cases, this is the only method used by tour guides. At the same time, the abuse of this method impairs the effectiveness of excursion, in particular, a result of losing the attention of excursionists. Another widely used method is an explanation. The spread of this method and its effectiveness is facilitated by the fact that it gives answers to the questions, which are not entirely clear. Many examples have been shown that excursion involves not only the use of these methods of cognition (both empirical and theoretical), but can itself be considered as such a separate method. The peculiarity of this method is to combine the classical methods of cognition, as well as the essential components of the excursion, namely the movement of excursionists, approaching to the excursion objects, their showing and commenting. All these peculiarities have additional influence on human feelings. It can be used not only by the visual and hearing organs but also by others. This enhances the attention of excursionists and, accordingly, promotes better assimilation of information. As a result, some excursions are remembered for life.

The paper provides an overview of the tour guide activities in one of the oldest gardens in Russia - Peter the Great Botanical garden of Komarov Botanical Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences. It is the first time the authors have summarized the experience of working with visitors of the Peter the Great Botanical garden from the end of the 19th century to the present. Much attention is paid to the history of the excursion business in Russia and in the Botanical garden. The incentive to work was the growing interest in Botanical gardens and various forms of the excursion activity that now exist in the Botanical garden of Saint Petersburg. Modern science about excursions broadly describes general basics of conducting excursions, but practical techniques are not presented enough. Therefore, the task of methodological developments for the guides of the Botanical garden becomes relevant. Based on historical experience, the authors describe the rules for preparing for excursions in the Botanical garden, aspects when choosing information for excursions, special training methods, and general recommendations for excursions organization. Specific knowledge about the content of excursions in the Botanical garden will help specialists effectively and competently organize activities for environmental and biological education of both adults and young visitors.

In connection with carrying out in 2018 of the activities of the world football Championship in several regions of the Russian Federation there is a perceived need for additional training of a large number of guides, guides and guides-interpreters. In the article based on modern scientific approaches and many years of practical experience, the authors propose a new structure of the course content quality of training of specialists of excursion business. The article discusses important differences in the training of the needed staff, on the one hand, in cities with experience of international competitions and Championships – Olympic games and Universiades, and, on the other hand, in cities where tourism business is seasonal e, which include the Volgograd. The article presents brief analysis of the problems and difficulties encountered in the preparation and subsequent work of guides and guides-interpreters of the Volgograd region. Special attention is paid to the insufficient competence of tour guides in the field of practice of the excursion. In this context, the article provides an overview of tour guides requirements, contained in the normative legal acts on the basis of which there is competence of the guide – the guidelines of the tour. The authors compare traditional (found in the literature) creative interpretations of the concept of «methodology of the tour». As a significant component of the methodology for the conduct of excursions are the types of special methodical knowledge of the guide and guide-interpreter, namely: psychological, pedagogical, vocational and applied, linguistic knowledge and the practical skills: communicative, organizational and compensatory. The article specifies requirements for teaching staff, conducting quality training courses guides and guide-interpreters, and procedural characteristics of education.

This bachelor’s thesis has been about creating an excursion guide for natural sciences students in theearly stages of their education, as well as for the interested public. The aim has been to give the students a condensed, easy to grasp version of the quaternary landscape development in Uppsala län, Sweden. The thesis is made up of two parts, where the first part introduces the students to quaternary processes and terms necessary to understand the second part, which is the excursion itself. Since the excursion is centered around the geological structures left by the last glaciation, the first part contains information mostly about the glacier's mechanisms and processes, different types of soil and how the structures left by the glacier is recognizable in the field. Featured in part one is also a timeline of the landscape development in Sweden since the last glaciations regression. The second part features 10 localities that show off landforms and geological structures of interest from the quaternary period. Photographs are used to illustrate what parts are important for each locality and infographics have been used to give students easy access to the most crucial knowledge for that specific landform, structure or mechanism. Both parts of this thesis contain maps made in ArcGIS. These maps show off a few different things, like the ice-sheets extent at different points in time, the types of soil in and around each locality aswell as an overview map that shows the localities whereabouts. In addition to the maps, a virtual guide was created in Google Earth suitable for a time with travel restrictions. Because of the nature of this thesis, no results of the traditional kind were arrived at. The result is the excursion guide itself. This project proved to be more difficult than anticipated, the scope of it in particular made it challenging. In order to make a detailed excursion guide, one would need to either be more knowledgeable within the field, have more time or need to restrict the scope of the project.

The aim of the present paper is to analyze the curricula for secondary schools in terms of mosses and subsequently prepare a botanical excursion to the NNL Borečský Hill with appropriate didactic materials. Textbooks were compared according to several criteria - the frequency of species of mosses, visual aid, information on the ecology and significance of mosses to ecosystem and human well-being, ideas on field trips and work activities. Topics relating to the planned excursion were selected from the Framework Education Programme. At first, the paper summarizes information about the selected location NNL Borečský Hill which I visited in August 2012 and February 2013. Then an exploration and evaluation of botanical sites follow. There are eight designated sites where the students would perform set tasks. The Chapter: Excursion Proposal contains educational materials created for the excursion - characteristics of selected plant species, characteristic species of bryophytes listed in the field guide, the field guide to bryophytes used on location as well as during laboratory work, route guide for teachers, student worksheets. The materials were tested by students in laboratory work in March 2013 and during the postponed excursion (due to bad weather) in April 2013. The results of the verification are...

This chapter tackles ambivalence in the representations of Indonesian selves and Arab Others, drawing on migrants' and pilgrims' narrations on Arab Others and on the more general media representations of Arab Others in Indonesia. It discusses an excursion into popular culture, which reveals how cultural boundaries provide orientation and guide identity formation in contemporary Indonesian Islamization trends. The chapter also examines lessons from the collective mobilities of migrants and pilgrims that take preference over their individual biographies. It then highlights current inner-Indonesian controversies about “Arabization” and competing religious lifestyles. The chapter then explains how migrants and pilgrims relate to general discourses in society through the perspective of non-Muslim groups and popular media representations.

The diversity of phospholipids present in the mammalian cell membranes continues to titillate one’s scientific senses. In addition to the presence of at least 12 different structural types of phospholipids in a cell that serve to complicate the picture, there are species within species. If one considers the diacyl, alkylacyl, and alkenylacyl variants, plus the number of different fatty acyl and fatty ether combinations, there can be several hundred different species present. Certainly progress is being made in relating certain species with a particular cellular process, and this is no doubt an exciting and important area of study. However, this is only the tip of the “cellular iceberg,” since there is little or no information on the biological role of the majority (certainly over 75%) of the phospholipids. Questions to be asked center on the need for such a spectrum of phospholipids. Are some structural components only, are some vestigial remnants, or do they play a crucial role in biological reactions yet to be discovered? There is no simple answer as yet, but this trend of thought should be kept in mind in any investigation on membrane lipid behavior. An important route to interpreting the role of various phospholipids in a biological milieu is to be certain of the chemical structure and identification of the molecules under study. So in continuation of the general format used in Chapter 4, the chemistry of the ethanolamine-, inositol-, and serine-containing phosphoglycerides will be explored at this point. A limited excursion will be made as to their participation in biological reactions. Though the above three classes of compounds share certain common structural features, there are sufficient differences to warrant separate treatment of each group of compounds. For example, the ethanolamine-containing phosphoglycerides can contain, in addition to the diacyl form, an alkylacyl and/or alkenylacyl form. Inositol-containing phosphoglycerides other than the diacyl type have not been reported, but several other phosphorylated species have been detected. The serine-containing phosphoglycerides have been found only as diacyl derivatives.

This chapter discusses chronic Occluso-Muscle Disorder, which is a myogenous subset of Temporomandibular Disorder symptoms resultant from occlusally activated muscle hyperactivity. Published T-Scan-based research since 1991 has determined that a significant etiologic component of Occluso-Muscle Disorder is prolonged (in time) occlusal surface friction that occurs between opposing posterior teeth during mandibular excursions. This friction results in prolonged compressions of the Periodontal Ligament fibers of the involved teeth, which triggers excess muscle contractions within the masticatory muscles. This chapter describes the neuroanatomy of how the excursive friction induces masticatory muscle hyperactivity and illustrates the patient occlusal factors that promote prolonged occlusal surface friction. It explains the patient section criteria for determining if an Occluso-Muscle Disorder patient is a candidate for occlusal intervention, details the computer-guided Occluso-Muscle Disorder treatment known as Disclusion Time Reduction, and supports this measured occlusal treatment with the research studies that validate using this highly effective Occluso-Muscle Disorder therapy.

In this paper, a control methodology for a mobility assistive robot is presented. There are various types of robots that can help the disabled. Among these, mobile robots can help to guide a subject from one place to the other. Broadly, the mobile guidance robots can be classified into active and passive type. From a user's safety point of view, passive mobility assistive robots are more desirable than the active robots. In this paper, a two-wheeled differentially driven mobile robot with a castor wheel is considered as the assistive robot. The robot is made to have passive mobility characteristics by a specific choice of control law which creates damper-like resistive forces on the wheels. The paper describes the dynamic model, the suggested control laws to achieve a passive behavior, and experiments on a mobile robot facility at the University of Delaware. From a starting position, the assistive device guides the user to the goal in two phases. In the first phase, the user is guided to reach a goal position while pushing the robot through a handle attached to it. At the end of this first phase, the robot may not have the desired orientation. In the second phase, it is assumed that the user does not apply any further pushing force while the robot corrects the heading angle. A control algorithm is suggested for each phase. In the second phase, the desired heading angle is achieved at the cost of deviation from the final position. This excursion from the goal position is minimized by the controller. This control scheme is first verified in computer simulation. Then, it is implemented on a laboratory system and the experimental results are presented.

Educational trails are a traditional tool to bring local attractions closer to the visitor of the area. However, educational trails are currently changing concepts. The classic model of whiteboards with text and images no longer works - visitors do not want to read long texts. They require interactivity and a sophisticated visual experience. With the development of modern communication technologies, there is an opportunity to meet these expectations by connecting educational content with a virtual environment. The article aims to present several different types of virtual nature trails in Czechia and assess the strengths and weaknesses of their implementation from visitors' perspective. The input data are data from evaluation questionnaires from guided excursions, a substantial part of which were these educational trails; the method used is content analysis. The main findings include that visitors accept these new forms of nature trails mostly positively. Negative reactions were more of a practical nature when something did not work as it should. In addition, creating and maintaining a virtual nature trail can be significantly cheaper than its physical form, which is an advantage in rural regions where local governments do not have large budgets. The author of this article is also a co-author of one of the assessed paths; therefore, practical advice regarding the implementation of virtual educational paths is also discussed.

This article presents a virtual course with the topic mobile and wireless communication systems. The structure of the tree sections of the course material content, the generic technology section, the wireless technology section, and the mobility management section, is presented. The main didactical approach of the virtual course is a guided excursion to which students enroll. The task sets, consisting of exercises and study directives, that the course teacher assigns each week to the students are described. The concept of step-by-step skill assimilation, which lies behind the student guidance process, is outlined together with descriptions of the different user skill levels. The course has been produced by Arcada Polytechnic as a part of a production team in the Finnish Virtual Polytechnic. The structure of the Finnish educational system together with the goals and structure of the Finnish Virtual Polytechnic are presented. The course development process is described in detail together with the software tools used to produce the course material. The graphical design of the learning platform is presented. The communicating dimension, the interface, and the esthetical dimension, and the layout are presented and analyzed in depth. The IT infrastructure needed to implement and use the learning platform of the course is described and assessed. Issues like how the students are registered and authenticated to the course are presented together with the tools for communication and interaction between student and teacher. General IT requirements together with specific both server (course provider) and client (student) side IT requirements are presented. Teaching and learning experiences, gathered from a wireless networking course held in spring 2005, are presented. In this wireless networking course Mobile IP animation was used to simplify both teaching and learning of mobile IP. Further development needs are also presented.

In the case of postulated core disruptive accidents (CDAs) of sodium-cooled fast reactors (SFRs), fuel relocation out of the core region decrease the potential for severe power excursions caused by recriticality and control-rod guide tubes (CRGTs) provide an effective path for fuel-relocation. Therefore, a methodology for evaluating molten-fuel relocation through CRGTs is required in order to realistically evaluate sequences and consequences of CDAs. Since the liquid sodium exists at the coolant plenum, pressurizations and coolant void development associated with fuel-coolant interactions (FCIs) are considered to affect fuel-relocation. Therefore, the objective of the present study is to develop the methodology for evaluation of molten-fuel relocation into the coolant plenum with FCIs. In the present study, the SIMMER code which has been developed for CDA analyses was utilized as a technical basis since this code can treat multi-phase, multi-component fluid dynamics with phase-changes supposed to take place in the coolant plenum during fuel-relocation. The evaluation methodology was developed through validations of the SIMMER code using experimental data. A series of fundamental experiments were selected for model validations in which an alloy with low melting temperature and water were used as simulant materials for the fuel and the coolant respectively since the experiments were performed under a simulated CDA condition of SFRs in which a liquid-liquid direct contact was maintained between the melt and water contact surface, and the visual observation on FCI process was effective to validate models based on phenomenological considerations. The code was validated by two steps: In the first step, fundamental validations of melt-discharge into the coolant were performed, namely, momentum exchange functions of flowing-melt both to the wall of relocation-path and to the coolant were validated based on experimental data in which effects of FCIs on melt-discharge into the coolant were eliminated or negligible. In the second step, comprehensive validations of melt-ejection into the coolant were performed, namely, models which affect heat-exchange between the melt and the coolant were validated based on experimental data in which the melt was relocated into the coolant with FCIs. The second step validation required model improvements for suppression of melt-coolant interfacial area based on the results of visual observation in the experiments in order to reproduce the experimental results appropriately. Through the present model validations, the methodology to evaluate molten-fuel relocation into the coolant plenum with FCIs was successfully developed.
