Since 2003, the European Union (EU) has developed into a provider of international security services. This capacity has involved a new policy tool, the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP), as well as other EU external policy competencies. However, given the complex nature of EU institutions, and the extent to which EU policy domains overlap, the EU has also attempted to impose more coherence on its foreign security actions to improve their effectiveness and raise its overall global profile as a political actor. These efforts are increasingly framed as the 'comprehensive approach' to European security actions. The comprehensive approach refers to the EU's more pro-active, and more coordinated, integration of its various external policy tools to address specific international security problems. This article explains how processes of experiential institutional learning helped generate new ideas regarding the comprehensive approach by examining a range of CSDP operations launched by the EU since 2003, each of which has required a considerable degree of institutional improvisation. This improvisation has inspired new institutional roles and capacities not found in formal treaties, and it suggests a capacity for endogenous institutional development on the part of the EU.

Анотація:

Neuropsychodrama is a trauma-informed approach to the use of psychodrama. It is experiential, role oriented, and relational; particular attention is paid to what clients experience when they enter the trauma vortex, or the reliving that is often a part of healing from trauma. Relational Trauma Repair, is an experiential, psychoeducational model for treating posttraumatic stress disorder. Clients are led through an experiential, sociometric process that is integrated with research findings on trauma, grief, and positive psychology. The model guides group members through a fluid process that creates “teachable moments” as it heals. Individual growth and learning is often motivated and stimulated through participating with other group members. Relational Trauma Repair teaches about the range of symptoms involved in grief and posttraumatic stress disorder while inspiring clients to reach for positive emotions and forgiveness.

Objective This study examined the mediating effects of experiential avoidance and interpersonal problems on the relationship between social anxiety and social networking service (SNS) addiction proneness.Methods An online survey was conducted on 400 university students in their 20s across Republic of Korea. The scales used in the study were the Social Interaction Anxiety Scale (SIAS), Korean Acceptance-Action Questionnaire-II (K-AAQ-II), Short form of the Korean Inventory of Interpersonal Problems Circumplex Scale (KIIP-SC), and SNS addiction proneness scale for university students. For data analysis, structural equation modeling was conducted, and phantom variables were used to verify the significance of individual indirect effects of the multiple mediation model.Results Social anxiety had no direct effect on SNS addiction proneness. Experiential avoidance and interpersonal problems completely mediate the relationship between social anxiety and SNS addiction proneness sequentially.Conclusion Our result suggests that experiential avoidance leads to interpersonal problems and SNS addiction proneness. In other words, it is important to alleviate experiential avoidance in treating or preventing interpersonal problems and SNS addiction proneness among university students with social anxiety.

This commentary explores Nicole Vigoda Gonzalez’s (2018) treatment of “Rosa” with Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), an attachment-based, relational, and experiential approach effective for treating attachment trauma. I discuss how AEDP also welcomes culturally competent strategies. My focus is the importance of specificity in the inclusion of culturally competent strategies in psychotherapy practice. Specifically, I address the difference between a Caribbean versus an Hispanic identification. I also explore the impact of culture, including race/ethnicity and familial discrimination, in Rosa’s case. Finally, I explore the impact of the therapist’s disclosure, or lack thereof, of her own race/ethnicity in the context of AEDP interventions.

Top-down procedures for diagnosing and treating conditions such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder are, simply stated, logically flawed. The symptoms that form the basis for the diagnosis can be caused by myriad of other factors unrelated to bona fide (i.e., neurologically based) Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. The diagnostic power of the clinically normed, bottom-up electroencephalographic assessment is remarkable and facilitates treatment of the actual causes, neurological and experiential, of children's challenges. Neurotherapeutic treatments of these conditions are often suboptimal because symptom-based protocols are often inaccurate leading to treating the wrong disorder, not the least of which is trying to mollify normal children's behavior.

This paper1 investigates the sources of representations on the communist period and the type of engagement with the past in an experiential museum, in the context of the National Network of Romanian Museums’ project for a laboratory-museum of Romanian Communism. Our analysis of focus-groups in October-November 2012 explores the public’s expectations in terms of museum experience and engagement with objects and the potential of an experiential museum to facilitate deliberation about the past. We use the conceptual framework of recent studies on postmemory (Hirsch, 2008) and prosthetic memory (Landsberg, 2004, 2009) to focus on ways of building the experiential archive needed to produce prosthetic memory. We consider that such an analysis is relevant for two interconnected problems: the bidirectional relationship between a projected museum of communism and a prospective public, and the methodological insights available for investigating this relation. With regard to the first problem, this paper makes a case for treating museums as a memory device rather than a lieu de memoire and analyses the role of the museum in relation to cultural memory. With regard to the second problem, it offers an example of conducting research on prospective publics which departs from traditional marketing approaches, adopting theoretical insights and analytical categories from specific conceptualizations in the field of memory studies.

Narrm, later named Port Phillip Bay by colonisers, shapes Aboriginal politics. This thesis is a place-based examination of the forms of treaty-making practised around Narrm. It aims to deepen the understandings of settler-Australians and historians of the political sophistication of the Kulin federation, a group of allied Aboriginal nations whose Country covers what is now central Victoria, Australia. Drawing on Aboriginal oral histories and colonial primary sources, as well as anthropological and archaeological scholarship, I use knowledge of Kulin culture and philosophy to explore, imagine, and decolonise the history of their politics from 14,000 years ago to the end of 1835. The forms of treaty explored in this thesis have been continuously practised for thousands of generations and exist within, and as an expression of, Kulin law. This thesis is divided into two parts, each consisting of two chapters. Part I examines the Kulin’s pre-colonial traditions of treaty-making, showing political relations were performed with Country, the non-human world and humans. Part II builds on this and shows that when encountering settlers in 1835 the bayside Kulin continued, and evolved, their treatymaking traditions. To describe these forms of Kulin political agreement-making, highlight Kulin agency and the political role of women, I introduce the term experiential treaties. An experiential treaty exists within the Indigenous oral tradition and is a political accord between a sovereign Aboriginal group and another party, be they a neighbouring Aboriginal clan, a refugee, a group of settlers as guests, or the non-human world of Country and animals. Exploring the Kulin world through experiential treaties centres Aboriginal political agency and selfdetermination. It is important to highlight that the practice of treaty-making does not have to include the modern or colonial settler-state. Experiential treaties are characterised by reciprocity and repetition, as they require iterative renewal through personal interactions between host and guest. With an imaginative approach based on Greg Dening’s historical methodology, I explore experiential treatymaking on Kulin country to decolonise Victorian history and highlight the silences and absences within current revisionist historiography of 1835. Rather than analyse the founding of Melbourne, I turn to the underresearched and unacknowledged political agency of the Waddawurrung living around present-day Geelong. Through exploring interactions with John Batman and his crew, I examine the exclusion of women from the narrative of 1835. Re-interpreting the political relations between the Waddawurrung and settlers camped at Indented Head shows that Kulin political traditions were continued, not disrupted, through what I term the Geelong Treaty based on the principle of iterative renewal and reciprocity. This thesis has significance in expanding the narrative of 1835 to include Kulin women and the Waddawurrung, but it also gives new depth to understandings of modern treaty-making and Indigenous activism in Victoria. As Wiradjuri legal scholar Mark McMillan states on the history and custom of Indigenous treaty-making: “There was something before, that still remains”. The fundamental principles of deep brain stimulation treatment are derived from decades of empirical and experiential observations. Through a case-based approach, this book is an effort to distill the expertise of clinical teams who are at the frontlines of managing patients with deep brain stimulation. The vast majority of patients with tremors, Parkinson disease, dystonia and other hyperkinetic disorders treated with DBS obtain significant relief of their neurological symptoms with conventional programming techniques that are outlined at the beginning of each section in this book. However, perioperative complications, stimulation induced side-effects and unexpected clinical symptoms such as freezing of gait after globus pallidus implantation for dystonia (Case 20), persistent dyskinesia after subthalamic stimulation (Case 17), and erosion of device hardware (Case 24) warrant unconventional and creative troubleshooting techniques to improve surgical outcomes while being constantly cognizant of their impact on the patient. Each case in the book is illustrative of the iterative process of managing deep brain stimulation patients who have entrusted their health to specialists who are not only determined to improve their quality of life regardless of the complexity of the clinical scenario but also share their invaluable observations with readers who may someday face a similar challenge when treating their patients.

Through the investigation of poems, pottery, personal letters, recipes and petitions, and through a breadth of topics running from street-cleaning, cooking and amulets to religious treatises and death rituals, this volume accords new meaning and value to the period and those who lived it. Its chapters confirm that the study of latrines, patterns of manuscript circulation, miracle narratives, sermons, skeletons, metaphors and so on, have as much to tell us about attitudes towards health and illness as do medical texts. The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) has left a rich legal, institutional, and non-judicial legacy. Many of the classical juridical footprints of the work of the ICTY are covered in legal treatises or reflective volumes. This book sheds a broader light on some of the working practices, challenges, and critiques of the ICTY. It starts from the assumption that the notion of legacy deserves consideration from multiple disciplinary standpoints, and that there is not one, but at best multiple legacies. It explores (i) historic legacy, that is, the contribution of the ICTY to the framing of facts and events, including the value of the records in combating denial of crimes; (ii) investigative and experiential legacy, including approaches towards identifying evidence, experiences related to the delivery of testimony, and access to justice; (iii) procedural legacies, including lessons learned from the management of proceedings, the treatment of parties, and outreach; (iv) retribution and punishment; (v) normative legacies, that is, the impact of the work of the Tribunal on domestic legal systems; and (vi) ongoing debates over impact and societal reception. The book draws on insights from multiple disciplines and combines voices from inside the Tribunal with external perspectives.

This chapter connects the management and marketing fields by scrutinizing the tacit knowledge management in the case of the customer experience theory. First, the theoretical and conceptual side is presented. To this regard, the tacit knowledge' importance is stressed. Likewise, a discussion of its externalization methods in reference to the customer experience theory as well as its strong relationship with the innovation development, is emphasized. Especially, the experiential innovation is targeted by this research and defended. The research question treated is: How to acquire and use the customer experiential knowledge CEK- for an experiential innovation development? Thus, CEK is conceptualized, in advance, through a deeper correspondence between the tacit knowledge taxonomies and the consumption experience dimensions. Second, the practical side presents a depth qualitative research undertaken with managers of Tunisian thalassotherapy centers to respond to the cited question. Finally, content analysis techniques, discussion of results and the practical contribution are advanced.

“Freud, Dora, and Compulsory Sexuality” examines Freud’s attempt to impose male sexuality onto a patient he renamed “Dora.” While Dora, an adolescent girl, did not begin seeing Freud to receive help with a sexual discrepancy issue, this chapter shows that a sexual discrepancy did surface during her treatment, the discrepancy between the way Dora’s male therapist interpreted her sexuality and the way she interpreted her own. The chapter shows how, in the name of treating Dora’s psychological symptoms, Freud imposed his sexual story onto Dora while simultaneously excluding and nullifying Dora’s own thoughts, feelings, and experiential reality.

Many researches have treated the knowledge management theory. However, to the authors' knowledge few were interested in the tacit knowledge construct, whether it is gained inside or outside the organization. This chapter has a challenge to analyze in-depth this embedded knowledge and to emphasize its close relationships with innovation management. Therefore, a thorough theoretical background is presented progressively. The first part presents an overview of the knowledge notion, and the related knowledge theoretical views are specified. The second part sheds light on the tacit knowledge's taxonomies and its methods of externalization. Finally, the last part examines, in particular, the contribution of the tacit knowledge to the innovation. This is done by scrutinizing the customer tacit knowledge while highlighting, especially, the key role of customer experiential knowledge.

Following the cognitive revolution in psychotherapy, a new wave of treatment approaches incorporating experiential and mindfulness elements were introduced: these were termed ‘third-wave therapies’. This chapter reviews the theoretical underpinnings and efficacy of several treatments that fall under this umbrella: (1) mindfulness-based stress reduction; (2) mindfulness-based cognitive therapy; (3) dialectical behaviour therapy; (4) behavioural activation; and (5) acceptance and commitment therapy. It summarizes seminal papers and books that have provided a strong empirical foundation for using third-wave therapies for treating recurrent depression, positive psychotic symptoms, borderline personality disorder, and chronic pain. It highlights several common themes across this literature including a focus on underserved and difficult-to-treat populations, a shift away from traditional cognitive therapy, and an emphasis on research examining mechanisms of change in treatment.

“A bridge has to be designed”. Every bridge is the exploration of all degrees of a freedom of a project: the context, cultural processes, technology, engineering and industrial skills. A successful bridge aims to dialogue with these degrees of freedom to achieve a delicate equilibrium, one that invites the participation of its users and emotes new perceptions for its viewers. In short, a good design “makes the bridge talk.”Too often, the bridge, as an object, is reduced to its functionality. Matters of perceptions and experiences of the users are often not considered in the design process; they are relegated to levels of chance or treated as simple decorative matter. The longevity of infrastructure projects, in general, and bridges, in particular, highlights the deficiencies of such an approach. The framework to design bridges must include historical, cultural, and experiential dimensions. Technology and engineering are of paramount importance but cannot be considered as “an end in themselves but a means to an end”. This paper proposes to discuss three projects by Ney & Partners that illustrate such a comprehensive exploration approach to footbridge design: the Poissy and Albi crossings and the Tintagel footbridge.The footbridges of Poissy and Albi dialogue most clearly with their historical contexts, reconfiguring the relationship between old and new in the materiality and typology use. In Tintagel, legend replaces history. Becoming a metaphor for the void it crosses, the Tintagel footbridge illustrates the delicate dialogue of technology and engineering on one side and imagination and experience on the other.
