It is a technical challenge to effectively remove the influence of magnetic noise from the vicinity of the receiving sensors on low-frequency magnetic communication. The traditional denoising methods are difficult to extract high-quality original signals under the condition of low SNR (the signal-to-noise ratio). In this paper, we analyze the numerical characteristics of the low-frequency magnetic field and propose the algorithms of the fast optimization of blind source separation (FOBSS) and the frequency-domain correlation extraction (FDCE). FOBSS is based on blind source separation (BSS). Signal extraction of low SNR can be implemented through FOBSS and FDCE. This signal extraction method is verified in multiple field experiments which can remove the magnetic noise by about 25 dB or more.

Abstract Follicular dendritic cell neoplasm(FDCN), a rare tumor exhibiting a broad histopathological spectrum and unpredictable biologic behavior, has been classified into follicular dendritic cell tumor(FDCT) and follicular dendritic cell sarcoma(FDCS) regarded as borderline lesion and malignant tumor, respectively, by World Health Organization. But still no definite diagnostic criteria distinguishing FDCT from FDCS was established. Here in, as an approach to the differential diagnostic criteria, we performed clinicopathological analysis for 146 cases of FDCN, documented in English literature from January 1986 to May 2006. Through PubMED search with key words of FDC or dendritic cell tumor, we collected and reviewed 73 articles out of more than six thousands candidates, which contained 146 FDCNs with clinicopathological informations. We analyzed the carefully selected cases with parameters including age, gender, tumor location, tumor size, tumor margin, EBV association, mitosis, nuclear atypism, hemorrhage, necrosis and Castleman’s disease association. Recurrence, metastasis and death of disease were referred as event. Kaplan-Meier model was used for overall event-free survival analysis and the log-rank test was used to assess statistical significance. Mitotic Index (MI, ≥ 5/10HPF vs <5/10HPF, P=0.0182) and tumor location (intraabdominal vs extraabdominal, P=0.007) showed significant association with event-free survival. But the other parameters have failed to achieve statistical significance as predictors of adverse events. For proposing diagnostic scheme, the risk groups were designated as follows: high risk group(n=7), MI ≥ 5/10HPF and intraabdominal; low risk group(n=26), MI <5/10HPF and extraabdominal; intermediate risk group(n=35), all others. These three risk groups had distinctly different median event-free survivals, 11 months, 24 months and 96 months for high, intermediate and low risk groups, respectively. And each group showed significantly different overall event-free survivals(P=0.0007). In conclusion, this novel diagnostic scheme might be a useful tool for predicting biologic behavior of FDCN.

Two ZnII-based coordination polymers (CPs) were synthesized by the hydrothermal method, using Zn(NO3)2·6H2O and furan-2,5-dicarboxylic acid (FDCA) in dimethylformamide (DMF) solvent, at 95 °C. Poly[tetrakis(dimethylazanium) [tetrakis(μ2-furan-2,5-dicarboxylato-κ2 O 2:O 5)dizinc(II)]], {(C2H8N)4[Zn2(C6H2O5)4]} n or {[DMA]4[ZnII 2(FDC)4]} n (DMA = dimethylazanium and FDC = furan-2,5-dicarboxylate), (1), was obtained with a 1:1 molar ratio of ZnII and FDCA. It crystallized in the monoclinic space group C2/c. Coordinated by ZnII ions, FDC2− ligands form 21 double-stranded helices propagating along the b axis. The helices are interconnected and extend laterally in the a direction, forming a two-dimensional (2D) sheet-like network. The 2D sheets are stacked along the c direction without interconnections. DMA cations are cocrystallized in (1) and are hydrogen bonded with carboxylate O atoms of the FDC2− ligands. The hydrogen-bonding pattern consists of R 2 2(4) and R 2 2(10) motifs alternating in a chain. Poly[bis(dimethylazanium) [bis(μ4-furan-2,5-dicarboxylato-κO 2:κO 2′:κO 5:κO 5)bis(μ3-furan-2,5-dicarboxylato-κO 2:κO 2′:κO 5)dizinc(II)] dimethylformamide 3.08-solvate], {(C2H8N)2[Zn2(C6H2O5)4]·3.08C3H7NO} n or {[DMA]2[ZnII 3(FDC)4]·3.08DMF} n , (2), was obtained with a 1:2 molar ratio of ZnII and FDCA. It crystallized in the monoclinic space group P21/c, forming a three-dimensional network. The pores are filled with DMA cations and DMF solvent molecules.

Modelling flow duration curves (FDCs) has long been a topic of interest since it is widely used in various hydrological applications. Most studies related to the estimation of FDCs in ungauged or partial gauged basins focus primarily on using climate and catchment characteristics to regionalize FDC at some single time scale. However, the relationship of FDCs at various time scales are rarely analyzed or studied. Here, we propose two methods, which are Modelled FDC Parameter comparison (M-FDC-P) and Empirical FDC Ratio comparison (E-FDC-R), to study the quantitative relationship between daily and monthly FDCs. One method M-FDC-P, selects a Kappa (KAP) distribution to represent the characteristics of the FDCs and then analyzes the relationship between KAP parameters of modelled FDCs at different time scales. Results indicate that three out of four parameters have strong correlations between FDCs at daily and monthly time scales. The other method, E-FDC-R, compares the quantitative relationship between daily and monthly empirical FDCs with given exceedance probabilities. The Power function is used for fitting the ratio-exceedance probability curves. In addition, the simulated daily FDC derived from monthly FDC can be very consistent with the observed daily flow records when the two parameters of power function are quantified precisely. These results clearly indicate that there are strong connections between daily and monthly FDCs, and monthly FDC can provide valuable information for daily FDC estimation. Since flow records at a large time scale are easier to obtain, daily FDC could be derived from monthly FDC by considering the inherent relationships between FDCs at different time scales, which is not sufficiently realized in previous studies.

The Australian Asthma Handbook does not recommend use of fixed dose combination (FDC) controller medicines for asthma in children aged ≤5 years. FDCs are only recommended in children and adolescents (aged 6–18 years) not responding to initial inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) therapy. Using Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme dispensing claims from 2013–2018, we examined the annual incident FDC dispensing and the incident FDC dispensing without prior ICS up to 365 days. We also determined cost of FDCs to government and patients. During 2013–2018, there were 35,635 FDC initiations and 31,368 (88%) did not have a preceding ICS dispensing. The annual incidence of FDC dispensing declined from 14.7 to 7.2/1000 children. Incidence of FDC dispensing/1000 children without a preceding ICS declined from 2.1 to 0.5 in children aged 1–2 years, 7.2 to 1.7 in 3–5 years, 14.8 to 5.1 in 6–11 years, and 18.6 to 11.9 in ≥12years. The cost of FDCs was 7.8 million Australian dollars (AUD); of which 4.4 million AUD was to government and 3.3 million AUD was to patient. Despite inappropriate dispensing of FDCs in children aged ≤5 years, incidence of FDC dispensing and more importantly incidence without a preceding ICS is declining in Australia.

In the present study, follicular dendritic cells (FDCs) were purified to homogeneity in order to define the lineage and function of these cells. FDCs were identified by their characteristic morphology and by their expression of receptors for the third complement component, the myeloid-restricted antigen CD14, and the FDC antigen DRC-1. Unclustered FDCs displayed a unique antigenic phenotype since they expressed several B- and myeloid lineage-restricted antigens, but lacked T and NK cell antigens as well as the leukocyte common antigen. FDCs expressed adhesion molecules, including most of the VLA proteins, intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1), and CD11b. FDCs could be isolated to homogeneity by their intense staining with anti-CD14 using flow cytometric cell sorting. These highly purified FDCs expressed CD14 and CD21 but lacked CD20. This antigen pattern and characteristic morphology confirmed that these cells were, in fact, homogeneous FDC preparations. Analysis of polymerase chain reaction-amplified cDNA from highly purified FDCs showed no transcripts for IL-6. The isolation of homogeneous FDC populations will be important for the analysis of the functional role of FDCs within the lymphoid follicle.

Background: Fixed drug combination (FDC) is a combination of two or more active drugs in a single dosage form. Rational fixed drug combination improves patient compliance, enhances the efficacy of combination and minimizes side effects. But unfortunately, many FDCs introduced in Indian market are irrational. Prescription of irrational FDCs increases morbidity, mortality, treatment failure, emergence of resistance and financial loss to community. Since junior doctors like residents and interns are the backbone in patient care in the tertiary care hospital, knowledge of FDC in them has paramount importance.Methods: A prospective, cross sectional, observational study was carried out to assess the knowledge, attitude and practice about the use of FDC by junior resident doctors and interns. A pre-validated questionnaire was given to two hundred doctors from various departments and data was analyzed. Questions were based on knowledge of National Essential List of Medicine (NELM), rational FDC and criteria of rationality.Results: Seventy six percent health care professionals had the knowledge of FDC. Only 48% were aware about FDCs mentioned in WHO Essential List of Medicine. Most of them were aware of advantages and disadvantages of FDCs. Common sources of information were medical representatives, textbooks and Current Index Of medical Specialities (CIMS). Fifty eight percent doctors preferred to prescribe FDC, and ninety two percent avoid use of irrational FDCs. Most commonly prescribed rational fixed drug combination was amoxicillin + clavulanic acid. Paracetamol + ibuprofen was the most commonly prescribed irrational FDC.Conclusions: There is need to improve knowledge of rational fixed drug combination, NELM list.

ObjectiveWhile fixed-dose combinations (FDC) can improve adherence, they may add complexity to the prescribing/dispensing process, potentially increasing risk of medication errors. This study aimed to determine if prescriptions for antihypertensive FDCs increase the risk of therapeutic duplication and drug–drug interactions (DDI).MethodsThis retrospective observational study used administrative pharmacy claims data from the Irish Primary Care Reimbursement Service. Prescriptions dispensed to adults in 2015 were included if they contained an antihypertensive FDC, or the same drugs prescribed separately. The outcomes were therapeutic duplication and potentially serious DDI involving FDC drugs. Relative risk (RR) of these outcomes, adjusted for prescription and patient factors, was determined using generalised linear models with Poisson distributions and propensity score matching.ResultsThis study included 307 833 FDC prescriptions (67.0%) and 151 632 separate component prescriptions. Half of patients prescribed FDCs were female with a mean age of 67.1 (SD 12.5) years and, compared with separate component prescriptions, FDCs were less often coprescribed with other cardiovascular medications. Therapeutic duplication occurred in 0.8% of prescriptions, most often involving calcium channel blockers, and 10.6% contained a DDI (most often amlodipine and simvastatin). The RR of therapeutic duplication on FDC prescriptions compared with separate component prescriptions was 1.46 (95% CI 1.17 to 1.83) and the adjusted RR was 2.06 (95% CI 1.64 to 2.60). For DDIs, there was no significant difference between FDC and separate component prescriptions after confounder adjustment.ConclusionsThis study found FDCs were associated with increased risk of duplication. When considering prescribing FDCs, this safety consideration should be weighed against potential benefits.

Background: Use of fixed dose combination (FDCs) is a double edged sword with scope for irrational prescribing on one hand and improved pharmacotherapy and patient compliance on the other hand. Irrational FDCs are being marketed aggressively and often young prescribers including Post Graduate Trainees fall prey to the lure of FDCs. This was a Knowledge-Attitude-Practice study regarding of FDC use among the resident doctors working at a tertiary care medical college of rural Bengal.Methods: This was a cross-sectional, questionnaire based study including 50 resident doctors who were asked to fill a 10-question questionnaire on FDCs anonymously.Results: Ninety two percent of the study participants were aware of the FDCs. The most commonly perceived advantages were better patient compliance and synergistic effects. Most (96%) cited problems of titrating dosages and problems of more side effects. Only 37.6% knew about the banned FDCs. Preferred FDCs among them were antibiotics (94%), cough syrups (80%) and NSAIDs (68%). Residents of dermatology, orthopaedics, surgery and medicine most commonly prescribed FDCs. Sources of knowledge regarding FDCs were CME (92%), medical representative (76%), colleagues (72%), internet (68%), journals (48%) and textbooks (36%).Conclusions: The study showed that most participants were aware of the FDCs and also aware of the problems with irrational FDC use. Knowledge regarding banned drugs was poor as was the rationality of such combinations. More CMEs and inter department group discussions could be conducted to improve awareness and FDC prescribing practice among young prescribers.

Antibiotic fixed dose combinations (FDCs) can have clinical advantages such as improving effectiveness and adherence to therapy. However, high use of potentially inappropriate FDCs has been reported, with implications for antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and toxicity. We used a pharmaceutical database, IQVIA-Multinational Integrated Data Analysis System (IQVIA-MIDAS®), to estimate sales of antibiotic FDCs from 75 countries in 2015. Antibiotic consumption was estimated using standard units (SU), defined by IQVIA as a single tablet, capsule, ampoule, vial or 5ml oral suspension. For each FDC antibiotic, the approval status was assessed by either registration with the United States Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) or inclusion on the World Health Organization (WHO) Essential Medicines List (EML). A total of 119 antibiotic FDCs were identified, contributing 16.7 x 109 SU, equalling 22% of total antibiotic consumption in 2015. The most sold antibiotic FDCs were amoxicillin-clavulanic acid followed by trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole and ampicillin/cloxacillin. The category with the highest consumption volume was aminopenicillin/β-lactamase inhibitor +/- other agents. The majority of antibiotic FDCs (92%; 110/119) were not approved by the US FDA. Of these, the most sold were ampicillin/cloxacillin, cefixime/ofloxacin and metronidazole/spiramycin. More than 80% (98/119) of FDC antibiotics were not compatible with the 2017 WHO EML. The countries with the highest numbers of FDC antibiotics were India (80/119), China (25/119) and Vietnam (19/119). There is high consumption of FDC antibiotics globally, particularly in middle-income countries. The majority of FDC antibiotic were not approved by either US FDA or WHO EML. International initiatives such as clear guidance from the WHO EML on which FDCs are not appropriate may help to regulate the manufacturing and sales of these antibiotics.

This master thesis aims for Inter-carrier interference (ICI) mitigation in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system by considering designs of frequency domain cyclic extension(FDCE) and optimal windowing pulse shape. Although OFDM system has been put forward in the 1970s, it has just emerged in 4G. In the early stage, it has been restricted by its high computational complexity. With the discovery that modulation and demodulation process of OFDM can be realized by discrete Fourier transform (DFT) and inverse discrete Fourier transform (IDFT), it is widely used in 4G and 5G-New Ratio (NR). Based on OFDM system, a variety of derivative systems are further proposed and applied. With the development of 5G technology in the mobile communication, the requirement of signal propagation between high-speed mobile user and base station (BS) is higher and higher. With the increase of the moving speed of objects, the frequency shift caused by Doppler eff ect can not be underestimated. ICI caused by Doppler shift is becoming more and more serious. Therefore, how to eliminate the ICI caused by Doppler shift has become an inevitable potential problem. In this thesis, two eff ective approaches for ICI mitigation have been explored and studied. By adding FDCE and optimal windowing pulse shape, the system performance is analyzed and the system simulation is constructed in MATLAB.

Follicular dendritic cells (FDCs) reside in primary B-cell follicles and in the light zones of germinal centers (GCs) in secondary follicles, where their dendrites interdigitate forming extensive networks intimately interacting with B-cells. In GCs, FDCs can be found at the edges attached to the supporting reticular fibers. They trap and arrange immune complexes (ICs) in vivo and in vitro in a periodic manner with 200–500Å spacing and provide both antigen-specific and non-specific accessory signals to B-cells. FDCs exist in resting and activated states, with two characteristically different phenotypes. In their activated state, FDCs upregulate the expression of accessory molecules and cytokines important in the FDC-B cell interaction in GCs. We sought to determine the mechanisms influencing the transition of FDCs from a resting to an activated state in GCs and their impact on T-cell dependent (TD) and independent (TI)-GC reactions (GCRs). We found that IC-FDC interactions via FDC-FcgammaRIIB induce the upregulation of FDC-FcgammaRIIB, -ICAM-1, and -VCAM-1, at both the protein and mRNA levels. We also reported for the first time the expression of TLR-4 on FDCs. Moreover, engagement of FDC-TLR4 with LPS activated NF-kappaB, up-regulated expression of important FDC-accessory molecules, including FcgammaRIIB, ICAM-1, and VCAM-1, and enhanced FDC accessory activity in promoting recall IgG responses. Moreover, IC-activated FDCs produced IL-6 and FDC-IL-6 promoted GCRs, somatic hypermutation (SHM) and IgG production. Further, we reported that binding of FDCs to collagen coated surfaces induced restoration of their dendritic processes and networks in vitro. In addition, we designed an FDC-supported in vitro model capable of induction and assessment of primary human antibody responses to protein antigens characterized by class-switching and affinity maturation. Uniquely, we generated TI immune responses to TD protein Ags in the complete absence of T cell help in vivo and in vitro. In the presence of FDC-associated second signals such as BAFF and C4BP, FDC- FcgammaRIIB-periodically trapped-ICs induced the production of Ag-specific IgM, GC-development and plasmablast-differentiation in anti-Thy-1-pretreated nude mice. Purified murine and human B cells cultured in vitro with IC-bearing FDCs also showed the production of antigen–specific IgM within just 48 h.

This thesis is concerned with the development of a general numerical framework that allows the computation of the evolution of non-axisymmetric perturbations to arbitrary axisymmetric base flows. Both single- and two-phase flows are considered. This framework is developed within oomph-lib, a finite element library for the simulation of multi-physics problems. Following the introduction of the core concepts of the finite element method via the example of a two-phase viscous flow problem in a Cartesian coordinate system, we begin our discussion of the Navier--Stokes equations in cylindrical polar coordinates by deriving the finite element formulation of the equations governing an axisymmetric flow and the conditions to be applied at a free surface. We apply this formulation to two problems involving the relaxation of a free surface in a cylindrical geometry, and validate the numerical results against analytical predictions for the frequency and decay rate obtained from linearised analyses of the respective problems. We then linearise the weak form of the governing equations for a fully three-dimensional flow written in terms of a cylindrical polar coordinate system to obtain the finite element formulation for a linear perturbation to a nonlinear base flow. The solution to the linear problem depends on the base flow and is periodic in the azimuthal direction. We exploit this periodicity by performing a Fourier decomposition in the azimuthal direction, transforming the three-dimensional problem into a series of two-dimensional problems in which the azimuthal mode number appears as a parameter. We implement these equations in oomph-lib and apply this newly-developed methodology to two representative single-phase flow problems. In both cases we demonstrate that our computations match previously published results generated using different numerical methods. Having validated our implementation of the equations governing the perturbation of a (time-dependent) axisymmetric base flow by a linear, non-axisymmetric disturbance, we extend this formulation to include problems containing two immiscible fluids separated by an interface. We derive the equations which need to be applied at the free boundary in such a problem, and augment oomph-lib's existing moving-domain `machinery' to allow the computation of arbitrary perturbations to a `base' free surface position, which is itself an unknown in the problem. We validate this methodology for the case of an axisymmetric disturbance to an axisymmetric base flow, and demonstrate the use of the newly-developed functionality by applying it to a non-axisymmetric relaxing interface problem. We demonstrate that, for all stably stratified configurations of this system, all disturbances to the interface position decay. For an unstably stratified configuration, however, we observe the growth of certain non-axisymmetric modes.

In recent years, block transmission techniques were proposed and developed for broadband wireless communication systems, which have to deal with strongly frequency-selective fading channels. Techniques like Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM)and Single Carrier with Frequency Domain Equalization (SC-FDE) are able to provide high bit rates despite the channel adversities. In this thesis we concentrate on the study of single carrier block transmission techniques considering receiver structures suitable to scenarios with strongly time-dispersive channels. CP-assisted (Cycle Pre x) block transmission techniques are employed to cope with frequency selective channels, allowing cost-e ective implementations through FFT-based (Fast Fourier Transform) signal processing. It is investigated the impact of the number of multipath components as well as the diversity order on the asymptotic performance of SC-FDE schemes. We also propose a receiver structure able to perform a joint detection and channel estimation method, in which it is possible to combine the channel estimates, based on training sequences, with decision-directed channel estimates. A study about the impact of the correlation factor estimation in the performance of Iterative Block-Decision Feedback Equalizer (IB-DFE) receivers is also presented.

Este trabajo fue desarrollado con el objeto de arribar a una estimación de valor de mercado del patrimonio de la compañía Envases del Pacifico S.A. (Edelpa), empresa cuyas acciones son transadas en la bolsa de Santiago. Edelpa participa como actor principal en el mercado de envases a nivel nacional e internacional, exportando a mercados de Centroamérica, Colombia, Brasil y Argentina. Edelpa produce envases con estructuras flexibles compuestas por una o varias capas de materiales, como polietilenos, nylon, aluminio y papel, unidas por adhesivos y recubiertos con lacas, barnices y ceras. Estos productos son desarrollados de acuerdo a especificaciones técnicas y de diseño definidos por cada cliente. La entrega de estos productos es en forma de bobinas o rollos para usar en máquinas automáticas de envasado, o de envases, tales como bolsas contenedoras, bolsas con fuelles, o con tapas dosificadoras. Considerando la información pública disponible hemos procedido a aplicar dos metodologías de valoración para establecer una cuantía de esta compañía al 31 de marzo del año 2012, referidos como:  Flujo de Caja Descontado.  Valoración mediante comparable o múltiplos de la industria. Con los resultados de ambos métodos hemos determinado valores probables para esta compañía.

Vårt valda undersökningsområde är Ilula Folk Development College, FDC, i Tanzania där det idag inte finns någon utbildad personal inom karriärvägledning. Ett problem som vi stött på under vår forskning om karriärvägledning i Tanzania är avsaknaden av utbildad personal, att området är relativt nytt och att det finns behov av mer forskning om det relativt outforskade området - karriärvägledning i Tanzania. Vi menar att det är av stor vikt att vi som framtida studie- och yrkesvägledare får ökad kunskap om vilka faktorer som påverkar elevers val av utbildning och yrke i andra kulturer, till exempel inom FDC i Tanzania, för att öka vår egen medvetenhet och för att bidra med nya fakta. Syftet med vår undersökning är att få en ökad kunskap om och förståelse för vilka faktorer som påverkar elever att påbörja en yrkesutbildning inom Ilula FDC i Tanzania, vilka tankar eleverna har kring framtida arbete efter avslutad yrkesutbildning samt vad eleverna själva önskar inom karriärvägledning. Våra frågeställningar är: Vilka faktorer har påverkat elever att påbörja en yrkesutbildning på Ilula FDC i Tanzania? Vilka tankar har eleverna på Ilula FDC i Tanzania kring framtida arbete efter avslutad yrkesutbildning? Vad anser eleverna som studerar en yrkesutbildning på Ilula FDC i Tanzania sig behöva inom karriärvägledning?Undersökningen är kvalitativ med halvstrukturerad intervjuguide och baseras på fem intervjuer. De teorier som används i vår undersökning är careershipteorin, humankapitalteorin, systemteori och teorin om socio-dynamisk vägledning. Begrepp som används är kapital, handlingshorisont, humankapital, påverkningsfaktorer, empowerment samt the joint action. Undersökningen visar att faktorer som påverkat respondenterna till att påbörja en yrkesutbildning på Ilula FDC är familj, vänner eller bekanta samt efterfrågan på arbetsmarknaden. Respondenterna i undersökningen har tankar kring att starta eget efter avslutade studier och samtliga respondenter önskar karriärvägledare på Ilula FDC.

Follicular dendritic cells (FDCs) are key elements of secondary lymphoid organs where they form the stromal component of B-cell follicles. FDCs possess extensive dendritic process that trap intact antigen via Fc and complement receptors on the cell surface. The antigen is displayed to B-cells, providing a basis for selection of high affinity B cells. FDC also have important roles in facilitating the clearance of apoptotic B cells by the secretion of the opsonising factor MFGE8. It is well established that lymphotoxin signalling is required for FDC maturation but the specific details of the molecular mechanisms that regulate FDC development and differentiation are not fully understood. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are non-coding RNAs of approximately 18-25 nucleotides in length that regulate gene expression at the post-transcriptional level. MiRNAs bind to their target gene transcripts as part of the RNA induced silencing complex and repress translation of the target gene product. The objective of this study was to identify miRNAs that play a role in the development and function of FDCs. An in vivo murine model of FDC de-differentiation was used to provide material for miRNA analysis. By comparison of miRNA profiles from spleen tissue with FDC at different stages of de-differentiation, we would be able to obtain a miRNA signature for mature FDC. Spleens were collected at various time points over a 28 day period following transient blockade of lymphotoxin signalling. A variety of methods were used to profile the miRNAs expressed at different time points during the suppression and recovery of the FDC network. Comparison of the miRNA profiles of spleens containing mature, partially de-differentiated, and fully de-differentiated FDC identified a number of miRNAs that were differentially expressed during FDC de-differentiation. To assess the role of specific miRNAs in FDC development, the mouse FDC-like cell line, FL-YB, was used as an in vitro model system. FL-YB cells were used to perform gain-offunction and loss-of-function studies on selected miRNAs and to assess the effects of various stimuli/conditions on miRNA expression. The effects of different treatments on cell proliferation, morphology and adhesion, and on gene expression by FL-YB, were monitored. Loss-of-function studies for one of the selected miRNA (miR-100-5p) revealed a significant effect on a number of gene transcripts involved in mediation of the germinal centre response (Il-6, Tlr4, Ptgs1/2). These data indicate that miR-100-5p has a role in regulating Il-6, Tlr4 and Ptgs1/2 transcripts. None of these transcripts contain predicted target sites for miR-100-5p and so the effect of miR-100-5p on these transcripts is likely to be indirect. Further studies on these miRNA: target interactions are required to elucidate the mechanisms and biological consequences of miRNA regulation in FDCs.

This thesis examines how colonial decision-makers in Bahrain restricted, regulated and controlled the consumption of alcohol and practice of prostitution as immoral activities. It analyzes these activities as visible sites for understanding how colonial decision-makers relied on the Law to enforce a distinct moral authority in Bahrain, and reflects on the political imperatives behind these regulatory projects. It shows how colonial actors justified moral regulations as necessary to protect local custom, and saw their ability to be seen as protecting customary values as intimately tied to their political legitimacy in Bahrain. The thesis further identifies the impact of moral regulation in constituting and reinforcing a hierarchal social order, which posited Western nationals as the ultimate benefactors of social privilege. The thesis places the project of moral regulation in its historic context, and identifies it as a response to social and demographic changes taking place in Bahrain following two transformative events: the discovery of oil in 1932, and the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939. It describes the impact of these events in driving an influx of British and American oil workers and military servicemen to Bahrain, many of whom engaged in visible displays of drunkenness and debauchery. It shows how colonial officials responsible for exercising authority over Bahrain viewed these trends with alarm, as likely to spur a broader process of social decline, and ultimately bring about challenges to Britain's political legitimacy in Bahrain. The thesis analyzes the regulatory responses enacted by colonial decision-makers to limit the spread of these corrupting recreational habits, in the context of a transforming urban environment. In liquor-control, it shows how colonial actors created and enforced a liquor-licensing system, which prohibited Bahraini nationals, Muslims, and most non-Muslim Arabs from purchasing and consuming liquor, while ensuring this privilege remained available to a minority group of mostly British and American nationals. It locates a second site of moral regulation laws governing prostitution. In this area, the thesis describes how colonial officials regulated and restricted prostitution as an undesirable activity, including by confining the practice to a geographic zone, subjecting prostitute women to mandatory health screenings, and justifying these actions as necessary to curb an epidemic of venereal diseases.

A 5' cDNA clone coding for human C4b-binding protein (C4bp) was isolated, characterised and sequenced to complete the cDNA sequence coding for amino-acid residues 1-32 thus confirming the protein sequence data of Chung et al. (1985c). The sequence extended to allow derivation of the putative leader sequence which was 32 residues in length and showed a high degree of hydrophobicity typical of other documented leader sequences. This clone together with others isolated by Chung et al. (1985a) were used to prepare cDNA probes which were subsequently used to hybridise genomic clones. The data from the blots suggested that the C4bp gene was up to 30 kb in size and thus consisted of large proportions of intron sequence (mRNA ≃ 2.5 kb). A commonly occurring restriction fragment length polymorphism was detected using the BglII restriction enzyme. Analysis of the genomic clones has shown that, with one possible exception, each internal protein repeat is encoded by a discrete exon. Use of the cDNA probes to hybridise RNA transfer blots, on which the RNA originated from various tissues and cell-lines, suggested that the liver is the major source of C4bp mRNA. Cross hybridisation was detected between the human C4bp cDNA probes and genomic DNA isolated from various species on transfer blots suggesting that genomic sequence homologous to that coding for C4bp has been conserved during evolution. Results from pulse field gel electrophoresis blot analysis suggests that although C4bp and the alternative pathway regulatory protein, Factor H, are genetically linked the physical distance separating them may be as great as 3 Mbp.

This is a short version of a paper on the solution of a Fractional Dirac Equation (FDE). In this paper, we present two different techniques to obtain a new FDE. The first technique is based on a Fractional Variational Principle (FVP). For completeness and ease in the discussion to follow, we briefly describe the fractional Euler-Lagrange equations, and define a new Lagrangian Density Function to obtain the desired FDE. The second technique we define a new Fractional Klein-Gordon Equation (FKGE) in terms of fractional operators and fractional momenta, and use this equation to obtain the FDE. Our FDE could be of any order. We present eigensolutions for the FDE which are very similar to those for the regular Dirac equation. We give only a brief exposition of the topics here. An extended version of this work will be presented elsewhere.

This paper describes a self-excited vibration of a Flow Dynamic Conveyer (FDC). The FDC is often used in power plants and in iron works because of superiority in noise control compared with a roller type conveyer. The FDC consists of a trough and a belt, and the air is supplied from many holes provided on the trough. A large vibration suddenly occurs when the flow rate becomes the critical value. In this paper, some measurements were performed in order to clarify the phenomenon. As a result, it was found that the phenomenon was the self-excited vibration based on the interference between two vibration systems such as the load • air-spring system and the trough • supporting system.

A new method for modeling multi-flexible-body systems is presented that incorporates interpolating splines in a divide-and-conquer scheme. This algorithm uses the floating frame of reference formulation and piece-wise interpolation spline functions to construct and solve the non-linear equations of motion of the multi-flexible-body systems undergoing large rotations and translations. We compare the new algorithm with the flexible divide-and-conquer algorithm (FDCA) that uses the assumed modes method and may resort to sub-structuring in many cases [1]. We demonstrate, through numerical examples, that in such cases the interpolating spline-based approach is comparable in accuracy and superior in efficiency to the FDCA. The algorithm retains the theoretical logarithmic complexity inherent to the divide-and-conquer algorithm when implemented in parallel.

Some types of viscoelastic damped mechanical systems may be described by FVE. The differential equation with fractional derivatives is often called the fractional differential equation (FDE). FDE can be solved for zero initial values, but it can not generally be solved for non-zero initial values. How to solve the problem is one of the key issues in this field. This is called “Initial condition (value) problems” of FDE. In this paper, initial condition problems of FVE are solved by making use of the prehistory functions of unknowns which are specified before the initial instance (referred to as the initial functions) starts. Introduction of initial functions into FDE reflects the physical state in giving the initial values. In this paper, several types of initial function are used to solve unique solutions for a type of FVE (referred to as FVE-I). The solutions of FVE-I are obtained by means of both numerical and analytical methods. Implication of the solutions to viscoelastic material will also be discussed.

Abstract Fused Deposition of Ceramics (FDC) is a Solid Freeform Fabrication (SFF) technique under development at Rutgers University. This technique is based on Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM)2, a commercially available SFF technology. Freeform fabrication of ceramic and metal parts is a means of significantly lowering the cost of currently expensive components. The feasibility of Fused Deposition of Ceramics (FDC) has been demonstrated in the recent past. Crucial to the viable fabrication of ceramic components is the elimination of defects in the parts. Apart from some of the usual traits of SFF techniques, some distinct features of FD Processing lead to defects in fabricated parts. The focus of this work is to study and improve the build procedure of FDM, thereby reducing the defects that are associated with FD processing. Predictable errors in the FDC/FDM components need to be consistently eliminated to increase the yield of fully dense, defect free, green parts. Changes in the manufacturing procedure and operation of FDC are shown to reduce these errors. Fully dense green components are further processed to obtain defect free fully dense sintered ceramic parts.

Background: People living with HIV / AIDS (PLWHA) have weak immune systems and are prone to infection. Therefore, PLWHA must take antiretroviral (ARV) to maintain their immunity. This study aimed to determine the relationship between the level of adherence to taking ARV fixed-dose combination (FDC) drugs and CD4 levels of HIV patients. Subjects and Method: This was a cross-sectional study conducted at Pengayoman Cipinang Hospital, Indonesia, in 2018. Total of 91 HIV patient over 17 years of age, had or had received FDC ARV therapy for at least 1 year, and did not experience drug-induced hepatitis were enrolled in this study. The dependent variable was CD4 level. The independent variable was level of adherence to taking ARV fixed-dose combination (FDC). The data were taken from the Voluntary Counseling and Testing Poli Pengayoman Cipinang Hospital. This study used secondary data from the Overview of HIV Care and ARV Therapy. The data were analyzed using Chi-square. Results: A total of 65.93% HIV patients had a good level of medication adherence and 79.12% had an increase of CD4 levels. There was a significant relationship between adherence to taking FDC ARV drugs and CD4 levels (OR = 6.50; 95% CI = 2.15 to 19.62; p<0.001), and it was statistically significant. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between the level of adherence to taking FDC ARV drugs and CD4 levels. Therefore, patients must receive education and support to improve adherence to taking ARV drugs. Este artigo objetiva estudar as redes sociais constituídas por professores e estudantes do projeto Flor de Ceibo (FDC) da Universidade de la Republica do Uruguai. O estudo foi desenvolvido a partir da teoria das redes sociais e complexas. Para análise foram gerados quatorze grupos (redes) que representam os territórios onde está sendo desenvolvido o FDC. As redes analisadas retratam a existência de colaboração entre professores e estudantes, resultando na interatividade ocorrida entre os atores de forma a contribuir para a difusão de informação e troca de saberes. Percebe-se que os professores não desempenham um papel central para o fluxo de interatividade sendo necessária a participação dos estudantes, e principalmente do estudante referente, para o alcance dos objetivos do FDC que considera importante a colaboração entre professores e estudantes e o uso da mediação telemática como espaços inter/transdisciplinares de formação, pesquisa, intervenção e reflexão.

Анотація:
A general formulation and solution of fractional optimal control problems (FOCPs) in terms of Caputo fractional derivatives (CFDs) of arbitrary order have been considered in this paper. The performance index (PI) of a FOCP is considered as a function of both the state and control. The dynamic constraint is expressed by a fractional differential equation (FDE) of arbitrary order. A general pseudo-state-space representation of the FDE is presented and based on that, FOCP has been developed. A numerical technique based on Gru¨nwald-Letnikov (G-L) approximation of the FDs is used for solving the resulting equations. Numerical example is presented to show the effectiveness of the formulation and solution scheme.
