This thesis aims to investigate whether a fiber Bragg grating array (FBGA) can be designed to reduce the bandwidth of light from a 1.5 µm fiber laser while the distances between the fiber Bragg gratings are in the 10-20 cm range. The results from simulations show that for FBGA with multiple cavities, small changes in cavity length impact transmission drastically. For FBGA consisting of only two fiber Bragg gratings, the quality of the laser cavity's spectrum is improved, as the peak width is reduced and stability is increased. This dissertation focuses on the use of subcarrier multiplexing (SCM) in multimode fibers, utilizing carrier frequencies above what is generally utilized for multimode fiber transmission, to achieve high bit rates. In the high frequency region (i.e., frequencies larger than the intermodal bandwidth), the magnitude response of multimode fiber does not decrease monotonically as a function of the frequency but is shown to become relatively flat (but with several deep nulls) with an amplitude below that at DC. The statistical properties of this frequency response at high frequencies are analyzed.

Proactive and nondisruptive channel probing is investigated for the measurement of channel power, amplifier channel gain, and optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) without disrupting established wavelength-division multiplexed channels. Using a nondisruptive probe signal over a three-span link, wavelength switching-induced power excursions are predicted to be within +/- 0.2 dB, and OSNR as high as 20 dB is accurately measured with a maximum of 0.5 dB error.

碩士<br>國立中山大學<br>光電工程研究所<br>90<br>Abstract In this paper, we build up the DRA (Distributed Raman Amplifier) by using four pump LDs (1460nm, 1470nm, 1480nm, 1490nm) with 25km LEAF (Large Effect Area Fiber) to transmission and compared the performance with system that just have EDFA. For the long distant system, we use EDFA and DRA to transmit 80km LEAF. In order to increase the system power budget it is necessary to use the two optical amplifiers in the same time. For the experimental results, we find that use the Raman amplifier with 25km LEAF may have degradations of CNR, CSO, CTB with 1~2
