Cet article met en lumière les conflits de propriété de la marque « DIEGO MARADONA » survenus après le décès de la légende du football. Enregistrée auprès de l’Office de l’Union européenne pour la propriété intellectuelle (EUIPO) par Diego Maradona en 2001, cette marque couvre divers produits et services. Après sa mort, la marque devient l’objet d’une lutte complexe lorsque Sattvica, une entreprise liée à son ancien avocat, tente de revendiquer la marque en se basant sur des documents dont la validité est contestée par les héritiers de Maradona et par l’EUIPO. Cette revendication est rejetée par l’Office, décision ensuite confirmée par le Tribunal de l’Union européenne, soulignant l’importance du formalisme strict dans le transfert de marques et la gestion délicate des droits de propriété industrielle post-mortem.

En réponse à la crise de confiance des consommateurs et leur régulière désaffection pour la viande bovine, et dans le cadre des efforts développés actuellement pour améliorer et sécuriser la traçabilité des bovins, nous avions pour objectif de proposer et de valider une méthode d’identification individuelle des viandes bovines à l’aide de marqueurs moléculaires de type microsatellite. Plusieurs prélèvements ont été effectués sur des jeunes bovins de domaines expérimentaux INRA, in vivo et post mortem. La détermination des génotypes aux 11 loci, puis la comparaison deux à deux de ces génotypes à l’aide d’une méthode statistique adéquate prenant en compte les particularités des microsatellites permet de recommander d’une part que le typage soit réalisé sur au moins huit marqueurs pour assurer une traçabilité parfaite, et d’autre part que des précautions indispensables soient prises concernant la qualité des prélèvements et la gestion des échantillons lors d’une mise en œuvre à grande échelle.

Background Less invasive techniques for fetal post-mortems are increasingly used to correlate with parental wishes. With the use of post-mortem magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), normal appearance of the organs must be established. Purpose To investigate the after death appearance of the fetal meconium throughout gestation using the hyperintense appearance of meconium on T1 weighted MRI. Material and Methods This was a retrospective study that took place in a tertiary referral centre radiology department. Sixty-two fetal body post-mortem MRI scans (January 2014 to May 2018) between 12 and 41 weeks gestation were reviewed. Signal intensity of meconium at the rectum, sigmoid colon, splenic flexure and hepatic flexure was evaluated and correlated with gestational age. Interrater reliability was calculated. Results Meconium did not consistently have high signal intensity on T1 scans and was not always obvious. Rectal meconium had the highest intensity, and the more proximal the bowel the lower the intensity. The meconium had higher intensity at earlier gestations. Interrater reliability for rectal meconium gradings was excellent. Conclusion This study provides the first published primary research on the appearance of fetal meconium on post-mortem MRI. Overall, results were variable and suggest an alteration of bowel contents after death, but further investigation is needed to effectively inform practice.

Abstract Objectives There is increasing evidence indicating an association between invasive non-typeable Haemophilus influenzae (NTHi) infection in pregnancy and early pregnancy loss. As the diagnosis relies on microbiological investigation of post-mortem placental and foetal samples, a significant proportion of NTHi-related pregnancy loss remains unrecognised. To better characterise NTHi in septic abortion, we report NTHi cases associated with early pregnancy loss. Methods We reviewed all post-mortems at <24 weeks gestation with histologically proven acute chorioamnionitis on placental histology and enrolled cases with at least one matched foetal and placental sample culture positive for NTHi. The study was approved by the NHS Lothian Caldicott Guardian. Results In our cohort, invasive NTHi has accounted for 20% of infections associated with early pregnancy loss prior to 24 weeks gestation. All patients were young and healthy pregnant women at < 20 weeks' gestation who presented with abdominal pain, PV bleed /discharge and were septic at the time of presentation. One patient with previous history of miscarriage who presented with cervical incompetence had more severe pathology suggestive of early intrauterine pneumonia. Conclusion The burden of invasive NTHi disease in early pregnancy loss is likely to be much larger than currently recognised. NTHi should be considered in pregnant women presenting with abdominal pain and PV bleed/discharge in whom clinical signs of sepsis are present. Active surveillance should be considered in this patient group including septic abortion to capture the true prevalence of this emerging pathogen to inform preventative and therapeutic approaches.

It is argued that the claim for reimbursement of the funeral of another person is historically older than the recognition of negotiorum gestio at large and can be seen as a precursor of the actio negotiorum gestorum.

Postnatal glucocorticoids such as dexamethasone are effective in promoting lung development in preterm infants, but are prescribed cautiously due to concerns of neurological harm. We developed an analysis pipeline for post-mortem magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to assess brain development and hence the neurological safety profile of postnatal dexamethasone in preterm lambs. Lambs were delivered via caesarean section at 129 days’ (d) gestation (full term ≈ 150 d) with saline-vehicle control (Saline, n = 9), low-dose tapered dexamethasone (cumulative dose = 0.75 mg/kg, n = 8), or high-dose tapered dexamethasone (cumulative dose = 2.67 mg/kg, n = 8), for seven days. Naïve fetal lambs (136 d gestation) were used as end-point maturation controls. The left-brain hemispheres were immersion-fixed in 10 % formalin (24 h), followed by paraformaldehyde (>6 months). Image sequences were empirically optimized for T1- and T2-weighted MRI and analysed using accessible methods. Spontaneous lesions detected in the white matter of the frontal cortex, temporo-parietal cortex, occipital lobe, and deep to the parahippocampal gyrus were confirmed with histology. Neither postnatal dexamethasone treatment nor gestation showed any associations with lesion incidence, frontal cortex (total, white, or grey matter) or hippocampal volume (all p > 0.05). Postnatal dexamethasone did not appear to adversely affect neurodevelopment. Our post-mortem MRI analysis pipeline is suitable for other animal models of brain development.

Abstract To uncover the ontogenesis of the human indusium griseum (IG), 28 post-mortem fetal human brains, 12–40 postconceptional weeks (PCW) of age, and 4 adult brains were analyzed immunohistochemically and compared with post-mortem magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of 28 fetal brains (14–41 PCW). The morphogenesis of the IG occurred between 12 and 15 PCW, transforming the bilateral IG primordia into a ribbon-like cortical lamina. The histogenetic transition of sub-laminated zones into the three-layered cortical organization occurred between 15 and 35 PCW, concomitantly with rapid cell differentiation that occurred from 18 to 28 PCW and the elaboration of neuronal connectivity during the entire second half of gestation. The increasing number of total cells and neurons in the IG at 25 and 35 PCW confirmed its continued differentiation throughout this period. High-field 3.0 T post-mortem MRI enabled visualization of the IG at the mid-fetal stage using T2-weighted sequences. In conclusion, the IG had a distinct histogenetic differentiation pattern than that of the neighboring intralimbic areas of the same ontogenetic origin, and did not show any signs of regression during the fetal period or postnatally, implying a functional role of the IG in the adult brain, which is yet to be disclosed.

Cystic nephroma is a rare and benign renal tumour of unknown origin, usually diagnosed in the first years of childhood or during adult life. To our knowledge, there are no records in the literature of this particular tumour being descried prenatally. We present a case of a fetus diagnosed with cystic nephroma on 16 weeks of gestation. The renal tumour was evaluated by prenatal ultrasound, post mortem with 7T magnetic resonance imaging, and conventional autopsy.

This raises the question of the management of artistic creations by post-mortem rightholders, i.e. determining their powers over the artistic works of the deceased. Contrary to popular belief, heirs are not completely free. On the one hand, their powers are limited, in particular by the creator's will, which the law protects, even after his or her death. His successors are his or her successors in title, both in property and in morals. On the other hand, the implementation of their powers can also be a source of difficulties. O presente relatório cujo tema é “Gestão de parques de fauna selvagem – Intervenção médico veterinária” é um sumário de algumas das actividades efectuadas numa área de conservação da natureza durante o período de estágio profissional no Endip Wildlife Laboratory (EWL), na República da África do Sul, com o objectivo ganhar experiência na gestão e na execução de tarefas em parques de fauna selvagem em África, que possa servir de suporte a futuras actividades profissionais desenvolvidas no mesmo âmbito. Existe uma preocupação crescente em empreender esforços direccionados para a preservação do meio ambiente a nível mundial. Incluídos neste esforço têm sido desenvolvidas diversas estratégias para preservação de habitats e espécies, nas quais se incluem os parques de fauna selvagem. Cedo se percebeu que a eficácia destes projectos depende da cooperação dos vários ramos da ciência em prol do conhecimento e gestão dos ecossitemas naturais. Foi neste contexto geral que desenvolvi o meu trabalho e elaborei este relatório, que é um sumário de algumas das actividades efectuadas numa reserva de vida selvagem, enquadrando o papel de um médico veterinário no âmbito da conservação da natureza. Neste trabalho, foi feita uma revisão geral sobre o tema “conservação da natureza” e em particular o contexto histórico em que surgiram e evoluíram os Parques Nacionais de conservação da natureza. Esta visão histórica permite perceber melhor o contexto actual dos parques, com as suas componentes positivas mas também com os seus constrangimentos. É neste cenário marcado por uma história, pressões económicas, conservacionistas e num ambiente de actividades multidisciplinares que desenvolvi diversas tarefas algumas das quais abordei de forma mais aprofundada, descrevendo-as e discutindo-as, nomeadamente: imobilização química de rinocerontes, necrópsias a animais selvagens da reserva, participação no programa de monitorização de fauna bravia à distância (sistema VHF) e vigilância de doenças. Foi feita uma descrição e uma contextualização de cada um dos casos e desenvolvo os diferentes temas, baseando-me bibliográficamente para fazer algumas observações no sentido de maximizar o sucesso de um médico veterinário em acções conservacionistas. Todo o processo que levou à concretização deste trabalho fez-me evoluir enquanto pessoa e adequar as várias perspectivas de futuro profissional, criando uma opinião própria que verti nas considerações finais.
This report, subjected “Wildlife Parks Management – Veterinary Medicine Intervention”, is a summary of some of the activities in wich I took part, in a conservation area during the internship in Endip Wildlife Laboratory (EWL), South Africa. The objective is to get experience on wildlife parks management in Africa, that could eventually support professional activities in the same scope. There is a growing concern worldwide on taking efforts towards environmental preservation. Included in this effort, There have been developed multiple strategies in order to preserve habitats and species, in which are included wildlife parks. Soon was realized that the success of this actions sets upon the cooperation between different science fields in order to understand and manage the natural ecosystems. It was on this professional framework in which I developed my work and wrote this report, that summarizes some of the activities in which I took part in the wildlife conservation area, taking in account the veterinary's medicine role towards nature conservation. On this report I have made an historical review on the subject “nature conservation”, particularly the historical context related to wildlife parks beginnings and subsequent evolution focusing some of its pluses and minuses. It is in this scenario marked by history, economical and conservationist pressures and in a multidisciplinary environment that I get involved on several activities in the wildlife conservation area. I develop in a greater extent some of them namely: chemical restraint in wild african rhinoceroses, several necropsy performed on the reserve and the participation on the going-on program of wildlife remote monitoring (via the conventional VHF system). It was made a detailed report and a discussion on the different cases, this late one based on bibliography to support some of the remarks, aiming to maximize the success of a veterinary degree towards conservation deeds. All the process that lead to the achievement of this work made me evolve as a person and embrace of future professional perspectives, generating a particular opinion that I express on the final considerations.

Few measurements have been made of vitamin K in neonatal tissues. Using an assay based on HPLC with dual-electrode electrochemical detection we have investigated the vitamin K status of the newborn from analyses of paired cord-maternal plasma samples and liver samples obtained at post-mortem. For vitamin K1 (K1) the median value in cord plasma (16 pg/ml, range 4-45 pg/ml) in 20 babies was some 30 fold lower than that in maternal plasma (median 0.47 ng/ml , range 0.14-2.42 ng/ml). This is the highest maternal-cord gradient of all the fat-soluble vitamins and together with the lack of correlation between cord and maternal values suggests that K1 does not rapidly equilibrate across the placenta. Hepatic neonatal-adult differences in K1 levels were less marked being about 5 fold lower at birth (median 1.2 ng/g, range 0.1-8.8 ng/g, n = 22) than in adults (median 5.4 ng/g, range 1.1-21.3 ng/g, n = 32). No relationship was found between hepatic K1 and gestational age and relatively high levels (1-2 ng/g) were detected at 10-12 weeks gestation. Post mortem livers obtained after intramuscular K1 prophylaxis at birth (0.5-1.0 mg) had K1 levels which were raised dramatically (1000 to 5000 fold after 24-48 h) and which remained raised for at least one week. A preliminary assessment of the contribution of vitamins K1 (menaquinones, MKs) to vitamin K1 status revealed undetectable levels in fetal or neonatal livers until about 14 days post-partum. This was in marked contrast to adults in whom MKs 7-10 accounted for the majority of liver vitamin K (75-97% on a molar basis). In adult plasma MKs were present at much lower levels than K1; the low circulating levels and poor1placental transport would explain our inability to detect MKs in newborn livers. When expressed as total vitamin K (K1 and MKs) we concluded that the newborn may have only about 2% of adult hepatic concentrations; this relative deficit of MKs may be responsible for the high susceptibility of the newborn to vitamin K deficiency.

Este artículo presenta argumentos para explicar la complejidad de desarrollar y producir un juego digital (SCHREIER, 2018), que puede culminar en prácticas laborales poco saludables conocidas como “crunch time” o simplemente “crunch”. Durante el “crunch”, los empleados suelen trabajar hasta 90 horas a la semana, generalmente cuando se acerca la fecha de lanzamiento o hay un evento de marketing por delante, por ejemplo, la Electronic Entertainment Expo. Sin embargo, no es raro que los estudios funcionen durante años con un calendario apretado. Un ejemplo reciente y bien conocido es el de Cyberpunk 2077 (CD Projekt Red, 2020), que hizo que los empleados denunciaran años de gestión abusiva. Otro ejemplo destacado es Sony’s Naughty Dog, LLC, famoso por su cultura de trabajo excesivo. El fenómeno no es reciente; recibió atención pública por primera vez en 2004, cuando la esposa de un empleado de EA denunció el daño causado en su hogar por la cultura laboral en la empresa (HOFFMAN, 2006). Identificamos una conexión directa entre las incidencias del crunch con factores socioculturales específicos presentes en la industria de los juegos y las relaciones de dependencia: creativas, financieras y editoriales (GARDA Y GRABARCZYK, 2016). Afirmamos que la cultura empresarial y laboral en la industria de los videojuegos culmina en efectos negativos en la vida personal y en la salud mental de sus empleados. Woodcock (2020) también vincula la cultura del crunch con una condición de empleabilidad sexista, afirmando que la industria evita contratar mujeres, ya que tienen más probabilidades de tener obligaciones domésticas y, por lo tanto, no pueden hacer frente al crunch. Buscamos comprender si existe una correlación entre una alta incidencia del crunch, la presión de las agencias financieras y los plazos inflexibles. Especulamos, basándonos en el trabajo de Schreier (2018) y analizando las historias detrás del desarrollo del aclamado “Stardew Valley” (BARONE, 2016), que incluso sin presión externa el crunch podría ocurrir. El trabajo de Han (2017) establece al “sujeto de logro” como aquel que no distingue el trabajo de su vida personal, posicionamos al desarrollador de videojuegos independiente como aquel que siempre está compitiendo contra sí mismo, explotándose hasta el cansancio. Esto se agrava, ya que, según Edholm y Lindström (2016), los trabajadores de la industria ya consideran el tiempo de crunch como un “mal necesario” y se les enseña a los aspirantes a desarrolladores de juegos en las universidades (ANTHROPY, 2012). En 2019, la Asociación Internacional de Desarrolladores de Juegos publicó que el 42% de los empleados de la industria del juego fueron sometidos a periodos de crunch y que solo el 8% de ellos fueron compensados por las horas extra. Cote y Harris (2020) también afirman que se espera que la mayoría de los profesionales de la industria del juego dejen sus puestos entre los 3 y 9 años de trabajo. Mediante la revisión de la literatura y el análisis de documentos post-mortem, este artículo expone los aspectos que influyen en este comportamiento y muestra ejemplos de cómo puede afectar la vida y la salud mental de un trabajador. Este artículo atribuye la alta incidencia del síndrome de burnout entre los trabajadores de la industria de los videojuegos y el elevado número de empleados que abandonan la industria de los videojuegos al fenómeno del crunch. En la escena independiente, investigamos cómo los factores socioculturales pueden contribuir a una relación insalubre con el trabajo.

Durante o período crítico, os funcionários costumam trabalhar até 90 horas por semana, geralmente com a aproximação da data de lançamento ou quando há um evento de marketing pela frente — por exemplo, a Electronic Entertainment Expo. No entanto, não é incomum que os estúdios funcionem por anos em uma agenda apertada. Um exemplo bem conhecido recente foi o Cyberpunk 2077 (CD Projekt Red, 2020), que teve funcionários denunciando anos de gestão abusiva. Outro exemplo proeminente é a Naughty Dog, LLC da Sony, famosa por sua cultura de trabalho excessiva. O fenômeno também não é recente; recebeu atenção do público pela primeira vez em 2004, quando o cônjuge de uma funcionária da EA relatou os danos causados em seu domicílio pela cultura de trabalho na empresa (HOFFMAN, 2006). Identificamos uma conexão direta entre as incidências de “crunch” a fatores socioculturais específicos presentes na indústria de games e as relações de dependência — criativa, financeira e editorial (GARDA e GRABARCZYK, 2016). Afirmamos que a cultura empresarial e laboral na indústria dos videojogos culmina em efeitos negativos nas vidas pessoais e na saúde mental dos seus colaboradores. Woodcock (2020) também vincula a cultura crunch a uma condição sexista de empregabilidade, alegando que a indústria evita contratar mulheres, que são mais propensas a ter obrigações domésticas e, portanto, são incapazes de lidar com o crunch. Buscamos entender se há correlação entre alta incidência de crunch, pressão dos financiadores e prazos inflexíveis. Especulamos, com base no trabalho de Schreier (2018) e analisando as histórias por trás do desenvolvimento do aclamado “Stardew Valley” (BARONE, 2016), que, mesmo sem pressão externa, o crunch ainda pode acontecer. O trabalho de Han (2017) afirma o “sujeito da realização” como aquele que não distingue o trabalho da sua vida pessoal, posicionando o desenvolvedor de videogame independente como aquele que está sempre competindo consigo mesmo, explorando-se à exaustão. Isso se agrava, pois, de acordo com Edholm e Lindström (2016), o crunch time já é considerado um “mal necessário” pelos trabalhadores da indústria e é ensinado a aspirantes a desenvolvedores de jogos nas universidades (ANTHROPY, 2012). Em 2019, a International Game Developers Association divulgou que 42% dos funcionários da indústria de jogos foram submetidos ao crunch, e apenas 8% deles foram compensados pelas horas extras. Cote e Harris (2020) também afirmam que a maioria dos profissionais da indústria de jogos deve deixar seus empregos entre 3 e 9 anos de trabalho. Por meio de uma revisão da literatura e da análise de documentos post mortem, este artigo apresenta aspectos que influenciam este comportamento e mostra exemplos de como pode afetar a vida e a saúde mental de um trabalhador. Este artigo atribui a alta incidência da síndrome de burnout entre trabalhadores da indústria de videogames e o alto número de funcionários que abandonam a indústria de videogames na hora do aperto. No cenário independente, investigamos como fatores socioculturais podem contribuir para uma relação (não) saudável com o trabalho.

RESUMO A sociedade atual vive em um contexto tumultuoso, sendo comum as pessoas viverem de forma mais estressadas, se alimentando mal e convivendo cada vez menos com as pessoas, perdendo oportunidades de fazer e manter relacionamentos pessoais. Como este estilo de vida está saturado, gerando problemas de saúde aos indivíduos, existem diversos estudos que comprovam a tendência de que as pessoas buscarão um melhor aproveitamento do seu tempo, com um maior contato com a natureza, dando valor ao seu próprio bem-estar, prestando mais atenção no que consome e em como consome, assim como a valorização do prazer de estar em um meio social. Nesse contexto, o objetivo deste trabalho é contribuir por meio da visão sistêmica e do design, o incentivo e a prática da filosofia Slow Food, e dessa forma, promover a preocupação com uma saudável forma de alimentação e a ação colaborativa entre as pessoas, em que um indivíduo possa cooperar com o outro, resgatando o convívio e socialização. Assim, pretende-se atuar em pequenas unidades urbanas externas, como prédios, condomínios, praças e avenidas com intuito de criação de um artefato que motive a prática dessa filosofia, assim como impulsione também as práticas colaborativas nestes locais, buscando a integração social e desenvolvimento econômico e ambiental, atendendo os princípios da sustentabilidade e o desenvolvimento local. O método de pesquisa usado é descritivo, em que se observou e analisou as situações e relações dos indivíduos, tanto de forma individual quanto as relações em sociedade. Os instrumentos escolhidos para coleta de dados foram o questionário, entrevistas e observações abertas, feitas informalmente ao decorrer das entrevistas. Neste trabalho integrou-se dois métodos de projeto, a ferramenta HCD/IDEO (Human Centered Design - Design Centrado no Ser Humano), usado como base, com técnicas para o entendimento dos desejos e necessidades da comunidade estudada e o Guia de projeto NASDesign/UFSC (Núcleo de Abordagem Sistêmica do Design/Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina), dividido em três fases: Sentir, Agir e Realizar, como complementação. Ao final, conclui-se que o modelo físico do produto proposto atende uma lista de requisitos divididos em três grande grupo: requisitos de produto, referentes à forma, materiais e texturas do objeto; requisitos do usuário, referente a necessidade entendida a partir do tipo de ambiente em que o produto está, e de como ele está sendo usado e aos requisitos do contexto de uso, que consiste nas necessidades do usuário observado durante a pesquisa.Palavras Chaves: design de produto, slow food, sustentabilidade. Heat production (HP) or energy expenditure for activity (EEa) is of fundamental nutritional importance for livestock because it determines the proportion of ingested nutrients available for productive functions. Previous estimates of EEa are unreliable and vary widely with different indirect methodologies. This leads to erroneous nutritional strategies, especially when intake on pasture does not meet nutritional requirements and supplementation is necessary for acceptable production. Therefore, the objective of this project was to measure EEa in different classes of livestock (beef cattle and goats) over a wide range of ecological and management conditions to develop and evaluate simple means of prediction. In the first study in Israel, small frame (SF) and large frame (LF) cows (268 and 581 kg) were monitored during spring, summer, and autumn. Feed intake by SF cows per unit of metabolic weight was greater (P < 0.001) than that by LF cows in both spring and summer and their apparent selection of higher quality herbage in spring was greater (P < 0.10) than that of LF cows. SF cows grazed more hours per day and walked longer distances than the LF cows during all seasons. The coefficient of specific costs of activities (kJ•kg BW-0.75•d-1) and of locomotion (J•kg BW-0.75•m-1) were smaller for the SF cows. In the second study, cows were monitored in March, May, and September when they grazed relatively large plots, 135 and 78 ha. Energy cost coefficients of standing, grazing, and horizontal locomotion derived were similar to those of the previous study based on data from smaller plots. However, the energy costs of walking idle and of vertical locomotion were greater than those found by Brosh et al. (2006) but similar to those found by Aharoni et al. (2009). In the third study, cows were monitored in February and May in a 78-ha plot with an average slope of 15.5°, whereas average plot slopes of the former studies ranged between 4.3 and 6.9°. Energy cost coefficients of standing, grazing, and walking idle were greater than those calculated in the previous studies. However, the estimated energy costs of locomotion were lower in the steeper plot. A comparison on a similar HP basis, i.e., similar metabolizable energy (ME) intake, shows that the daily energy spent on activities in relation to daily HP increased by 27% as the average plot slope increased from 5.8 and 6.02 to 15.5°. In the fourth study, cows grazing in a woodland habitat were monitored as in previous studies in December, March, and July. Data analysis is in progress. In the first US experiment, Boer and Spanish does with two kids were used in an experiment beginning in late spring at an average of 24 days after kidding. Two does of each breed resided in eight 0.5-ha grass/forb pastures. Periods of 56, 60, 63, 64, and 73 days in length corresponded to mid-lactation, early post-weaning, the late dry period, early gestation, and mid-gestation. EEa expressed as a percentage of the ME requirement for maintenance plus activity in confinement (EEa%) was not influenced by stocking rate, breed, or period, averaging 49%. Behavioral activities (e.g., time spent grazing, walking, and idle, distance traveled) were not highly related to EEa%, although no-intercept regressions against time spent grazing/eating and grazing/eating plus walking indicated an increase in EEa% of 5.8 and 5.1%/h, respectively. In the second study, animal types were yearling Angora doeling goats, yearling Boer wether goats, yearling Spanish wether goats, and Rambouilletwether sheep slightly more than 2 yr of age. Two animals of each type were randomly allocated to one of four pastures 9.3, 12.3, 4.6, and 1.2 ha in area. The experiment was conducted in the summer with three periods, 30, 26, and 26 days in length. EEa% was affected by an interaction between animal type and period (Angora: 16, 17, and 15; Boer: 60, 67, and 34; Spanish: 46, 62, and 42; sheep: 22, 12, and 22% in periods 1, 2, and 3, respectively (SE = 6.1)). EEa% of goats was predicted with moderate accuracy (R2 = 0.40-0.41) and without bias from estimates of 5.8 and 5.1%/h spent grazing/eating and grazing/eating plus walking, respectively, determined in the first experiment; however, these methods were not suitable for sheep. These methods of prediction are simpler and more accurate than currently recommended for goats by the National Research Council.
