Avec jusqu'à 1 million de personnes inondées, et 6,5 millions d'habitants privés d'eau ou d'électricité, les autorités régionales s'interrogent sur la capacité à mener à bien une évacuation de l'agglomération francilienne en cas de crue exceptionnelle de la Seine. L'étude présentée ici vise à répondre à une partie de ces interrogations, en proposant un outil d'aide à la décision sous SIG pour identifier de façon spatialisée les besoins de prise en charge dans l'hébergement d'urgence des populations sinistrées, en cas d'évacuation massive. La méthodologie se fonde sur la combinaison de deux indices, agrégés à l'échelle du bâti : (1) un « indice d'exposition », qui synthétise des variables relatives à l'aléa et aux impacts physiques induits par ce dernier. Cet indice est constitué à partir d'une réflexion sur la stratégie d'évacuation envisagée par la Préfecture de Police, coordinatrice de la gestion de crise à l'échelle régionale ; (2) un « indice de susceptibilité à l'auto-hébergement », qui vise à représenter la capacité d'une population donnée à trouver un hébergement par ses propres moyens, chez des proches notamment, en synthétisant diverses variables sociales et démographiques. Ces variables sont identifiées grâce à un état de l'art ad hoc, constitué à partir de retours d'expérience internationaux d'évacuations massives passées.

L'utilisation des indices oligochètes relevés dans la littérature pose un certain nombre de problèmes conceptuels et pratiques lorsque l'on étudie des lacs de taille réduite, le rôle des sédiments dans la distribution des oligochètes étant la plupart du temps ignoré. A partir d'analyses en composantes principales normées (ACP) comprenant, comme variables actives, 12 variables physico-chimiques des sédiments profonds de 12 lacs situés dans le Jura et les Vosges, nous avons projeté, en données supplémentaires, la physico-chimie des eaux et des variables biologiques (nombre d'espèces et effectifs d'oligochètes). Les analyses mettent en évidence un premier facteur F1, commun aux sédiments de tous les lacs étudiés et caractérisé par un antagonisme entre la matière organique (C, N, P) et les carbonates. Ce facteur est considéré ici comme exprimant une capacité métabolique des plans d'eau à minéraliser la matière organique. Les variables physico-chimiques des eaux se projettent sur cette structure et ne contredisent pas la signification accordée au facteur F1. Les variables biologiques ne se révèlent fortement corrélées qu'avec F1, et s'opposent aux variables décrivant les teneurs en matières organiques. Par une régression multiple où la variable à expliquer est constituée par la première coordonnée factorielle des stations d'échantillonnage, on obtient l'indice EOLA = nombre d'espèces d'oligochètes + 3.log10 des effectifs d'oligochètes/0,1 m2, qui est corrélé avec la structure physico-chimique mise en évidence dans les ACP. Cet indice est considéré comme une potentialité biologique liée à la capacité des lacs à minéraliser la matière organique, capacité qui peut se révéler faible en raison de la présence d'apports d'origine autochtone ou allochtone (en particulier les rejets humains).

Ce courant d'analyse des pratiques professionnelles, dont l'audience est relativement forte chez les praticiens et praticiennes, pose la capacité réflexive au coeur d'une méthode pour augmenter l'efficacité des pratiques professionnelles. Notre analyse considère cette inflation réflexive sous un angle sociologique et élucide ses fondements et sa portée comme indice de la reconstruction de l'idéologie professionnaliste.

Cet article fait le point sur l’influence supposée de la sélection du poulet de chair privilégiant croissance rapide, rendement musculaire élevé et indice de consommation minimum, sur la fréquence des incidents d’élevage d’origines cardio-vasculaire et respiratoire, aggravés par les coups de chaleur. Les poulets à croissance rapide présentent un rapport du volume pulmonaire sur le poids corporel inférieur, une capacité à fixer l’O2 dans le sang plus faible, une viscosité sanguine plus élevée et des arythmies cardiaques plus fréquentes que les poulets à croissance lente. Ces facteurs peuvent expliquer leur prédisposition à l’apparition d’un syndrome d’hypertension pulmonaire se compliquant d’ascite. Du fait d’un développement relativement plus lent de leur système cardio-respiratoire, certains animaux ont parfois des difficultés à assurer un approvisionnement correct de leurs tissus musculaires en oxygène. Leur capacité d’adaptation à une stimulation du métabolisme par des facteurs environnementaux (climat, altitude, alimentation riche en protéines et en énergie ) est limitée et favorise indirectement l’installation d’une hypoxie relative en augmentant les besoins en O2. Les généticiens recherchent de nouveaux critères de sélection sur les caractéristiques pulmonaires, hématologiques et cardio-vasculaires en équilibre avec les caractéristiques de croissance.

Le problème de la sédimentation des barrages en Algérie est connu dans le monde de par de son importance. Devant cet état de fait la mesure de l'envasement des barrages présente un intérêt certain pour la quantification des sédiments et l'exploitation des ouvrages. L'objectif de cette étude est de contribuer à la quantification de l'alluvionnement afin de mieux cerner le dimensionnement des ouvrages hydrotechniques, d'accroître leur durée de vie et de réduire les coûts de réalisation. L'étude porte sur un échantillon de dix neuf barrages algériens situés dans des bassins versants répartis sur l'ensemble du territoire. Une première réflexion a conduit à identifier la diversité des caractéristiques hydromorphométriques (indice d'altitude, densité de drainage, indice de pente, coefficient d'écoulement,...) et climatiques (sub-humide, semi-aride, aride). L'évaluation des volumes des sédiments à partir des mesures topo-bathymétriques effectuées à deux dates différentes montre une perte dans la capacité initiale, soit 44 % de perte en volume total, qui arrive à la limite de la durée de vie pour certains barrages. Ces derniers résultats ont été exploités dans l'objectif de mettre au point un modèle simple d'évaluation du débit solide accumulé dans les cuvettes des barrages algériens. A partir de cette réflexion, nous avons cherché, graphiquement, les liens préférentiels entre la sédimentation, la superficie et les différents facteurs hydromorphométriques. On distingue trois facteurs déterminants : la superficie, l'indice d'altitude et le coefficient d'écoulement. Ces derniers paramètres ont permis de mettre au point un abaque de classification en fonction de la continentalité et le contexte géographique. Cette taxonomie a été confirmée par l'analyse en composantes principales des données hydromorphométriques des systèmes étudiés.

De nombreuses études ont identifié des liens entre la psychopathologie et des antécédents d’événement de vie traumatiques et de relations d’attachement dysfonctionnelles. Compte tenu des origines traumatiques possibles de cette pathologie, il pourrait être utile d’apporter une intervention centrée sur le trauma comme la thérapie EMDR (désensibilisation et retraitement par les mouvements oculaires). Cet article s’appuie sur un cas clinique pour décrire les résultats positifs de la thérapie EMDR dans le rétablissement d’une anorexie mentale résistante chez une patiente de 17 ans en hospitalisation. Elle avait déjà été hospitalisée à quatre reprises au cours des quatre dernières années et avait suivi des thérapies psychodynamique et cognitive comportementale. Au début de la prise en charge, la patiente pesait 28 kg et son indice de masse corporelle était 14. Elle s’est vu attribuer un style d’attachement désengagé/évitant sur l’entretien de l’attachement adulte (Adult Attachment Interview). La thérapie EMDR lui a été proposée à l’hôpital sur une durée de six mois sous la forme de séances de 50 minutes, deux fois par semaine, correspondant aux procédures standard qui se centraient principalement sur ses traumas relationnels ; elle était combinée à des séances de psychoéducation et intégrée à la thérapie des états du moi. À la fin de la prise en charge, la patiente pesait 55 kg et son indice de masse corporelle était 21,5. Elle ne remplissait plus les critères diagnostiques de l’anorexie mentale et son style d’attachement s’était modifié en faveur d’un état d’esprit libre-autonome acquis. Elle décrivait une confiance en soi accrue et une plus grande capacité à gérer différentes situations sociales. Les résultats étaient maintenus lors du suivi après 12 et 24 mois. Les implications de cette étude de cas pour la prise en charge sont examinées.

Étudier l’effet de la puberté sur l’oxydation des substrats énergétiques lors d’un test d’effort aérobie chez des enfants obèses. Deux groupes d’adolescents obèses garçons (34 pré-pubères : indice de masse corporelle (IMC) = 25,94 ± 2,63; Z-score = 4,43 ± 1,83 et 26 post-pubères : IMC = 31,14 ± 4,88; Z-score = 5,264 ± 1,76) ont effectué un test d’intensité croissante sur cycloergomètre. Le premier palier du test est fixé à 30 W, puis l’incrémentation est de 20 W toutes les 3 min 30 s. La moyenne des mesures des gaz ventilatoires, effectuée lors des 30 dernières secondes de chaque palier, nous a permis de calculer les taux d’oxydation des glucides et des lipides en fonction de l’intensité de l’exercice. Les taux d’oxydation des lipides sont significativement supérieurs dans le groupe d’enfants post-pubères. Quand les niveaux d’oxydation sont rapportés à l’importance de la masse maigre (mg·min–1·kg–1 de masse maigre), les niveaux d’oxydations des lipides sont plus importants pour les enfants n’ayant pas effectué leur puberté. La puberté est responsable d’une diminution de la capacité de la masse maigre à utiliser les lipides pour un même niveau d’exercice.

L’article que nous présentons rapporte une recherche qui a pris en compte les aspects ethnique, culturel et de personnalité dans la productivité et la performance liées aux niveaux d’anxiété et de contrôle rationnel chez des adolescents de différentes origines ethniques dans le sud du Brésil. Cette recherche s’enracine dans un projet que nous menons depuis 1988 portant sur l’étude des capacités de productivité. Nous cherchions alors à déterminer si le niveau d’anxiété situationnelle était différent chez les indiens Tükuna et chez les blancs non-Tükuna d’origine portugaise vivant dans l’état d’Amazonie du Nord du Brésil. Nous avons pu montrer que les indiens Tükuna et les sujets non-Tükuna sont similaires quant à leurs besoins de réussite et de production et à leur haut niveau de besoin d’affiliation (recherche de protection). Dans l’étude présente, le Rorschach dans la perspective de Klopfer fut proposé à 107 adolescents des deux sexes d’origine portugaise, afro-brésilienne, allemande, israélite et italienne à Rio Grande do Sul, dans le sud du Brésil. Aucun des sujets ne présentait de problèmes de comportement ou scolaire. Leurs protocoles furent comparés à l’aide du Wilcoxon pour k échantillons indépendants et un MANOVA avec un seuil de significativité de .05. L’étude a porté sur les réponses Dbl (S) comme signe d’anxiété situationnelle et le nombre total de réponses (R) comme indice de capacité de performance et de productivité, ainsi que sur la corrélation entre S, R et F (réponses formelles). La moyenne de R est considérée comme normale entre 15 et 22. Les adolescents afro-brésiliens ont présenté moins d’anxiété, de productivité, de performance et de productivité culturelle(R) que les autres groupes, corrélé avec une absence d’anxiété (S), ce que l’on peut interpréter comme une tendance à l’accommodation. Les adolescents afro-brésiliens ressemblent aux adolescents Tükuna testés dans l’intérieur de l’Amazonie dans leur faible capacité de productivité et de performance. Contrairement à ce qu’on avait trouvé chez les adolescents d’origine portugaise testés par l’auteur dans l’intérieur de l’Amazonie, les adolescents portugais du sud du Brésil ne présentaient pas de faible capacité de productivité. On a trouvé une corrélation positive entre l’anxiété situationnelle et le souci de la performance et de la productivité chez les adolescents d’origine allemande, israélite, italienne et portugaise. En d’autres termes, ces groupes ethniques présentaient une anxiété directement corrélée à leurs soucis de performance et de productivité. Les adolescents d’origine afro-brésilienne, au contraire, ne présentaient pas de signes d’anxiété et de souci lié à la performance et à la productivité. On discute de l’hypothèse selon laquelle ce résultat serait lié à une accommodation et une dépendance qui s’origineraient dans une acceptation, non combattue, de l’acculturation de la dépendance issue de la période d’esclavage du Brésil.

Résumé L’atteinte d’une certaine cohésion sociale dans une région urbaine repose en bonne partie sur la réduction des disparités socio-économiques internes. Ces disparités socio-économiques ne sont pas étrangères aux problèmes liés à l’emploi et au revenu des ménages, qui découlent des transformations subies par le marché du travail au cours des dernières décennies. Dans cet article, nous nous interrogeons sur l’influence des facteurs géographiques reliés à la mobilité quotidienne des personnes et à l’accessibilité des lieux d’emplois sur les disparités socio-économiques internes, qui constribuent ainsi à une éventuelle érosion de la cohésion sociale dans l’agglomération urbaine de Québec. En premier lieu, nous utilisons une typologie des différents types d’accès à l’automobile dans les ménages motorisés afin de mieux cerner la capacité d’atteindre les lieux d’emplois. En second lieu, nous utilisons un indice d’accessibilité aux emplois reposant sur le modèle de gravité et nous faisons ressortir quelques zones de résidence présentant des problèmes d’accessibilité aux emplois en transport public, en 1977 comme en 1996. Enfin, nous testons l’hypothèse d’une relation entre l’accès effectif à l’automobile, l’accessibilité aux emplois et un indicateur de cohésion sociale, le taux d’emploi. Les données exploitées proviennent des enquêtes origine-destination du Réseau de transport de la Capitale (RTC).

La rivière Beaudette est un lieu de fraie pour diverses espèces de poissons et un sanctuaire de pêche important pour la région de Vaudreuil-Soulanges. Toutefois, elle subit diverses dégradations à la suite du lessivage de sédiments provenant des activités agricoles environnantes et de la dénaturalisation des berges en milieu résidentiel. Le but de cette étude était d’acquérir des connaissances sur le bassin versant de la rivière Beaudette (Québec) afin de documenter les menaces affectant le potentiel de l’habitat du poisson. Ceci s’est fait en caractérisant l’habitat, en évaluant la qualité des bandes riveraines, en analysant la qualité de l’eau, en recensant les marques d’érosion des rives et par des inventaires ichtyologiques. Les analyses de la qualité de l’habitat du poisson indiquent que près de 75 % de la rivière obtient une cote variant de « faible » à « très faible ». De plus, la rivière obtient généralement un indice « faible » en ce qui concerne sa capacité à accomplir ses fonctions écologiques. L’inventaire ichtyologique démontre que la rivière Beaudette comprend une richesse spécifique qui est plus grande en présence de bandes riveraines de bonne qualité ainsi qu’à des valeurs élevées de l’indice de qualité de l’habitat du poisson. Ces résultats confirment le besoin d’intervenir pour assurer la pérennité des écosystèmes de la rivière Beaudette.

Les espèces en situation précaire comptent parmi les plus sensibles aux changements climatiques. Nous avons documenté les effets potentiels de ceux-ci sur les 409 plantes vasculaires en situation précaire au Québec. Nous avons quantifié les modifications potentielles des aires de répartition de 131 d’entre elles avec des modèles de niche bioclimatique et évalué la vulnérabilité des 409 plantes avec un indice de vulnérabilité aux changements climatiques. Nos résultats suggèrent que les conditions climatiques pourraient devenir favorables à plusieurs plantes en situation précaire au Québec. La province pourrait devenir un refuge climatique pour celles pour lesquelles les conditions climatiques deviendraient défavorables aux États-Unis. Toutefois, notre étude révèle que la vitesse de déplacement des niches bioclimatiques des plantes risque de dépasser largement leur capacité de déplacement. Ainsi, il pourrait être impossible pour celles-ci d’étendre naturellement leur répartition dans la province. De plus, 57,7 % des espèces étudiées sont considérées comme vulnérables aux changements climatiques. Les plus vulnérables sont celles ayant une répartition périphérique sud et celles associées aux habitats arctiques-alpins, à l’estuaire et au golfe du Saint-Laurent. Des recommandations sont formulées afin d’intégrer des stratégies d’adaptation aux changements climatiques à la gestion des plantes vasculaires en situation précaire et de leurs habitats au Québec.

La hauteur dominante est une information souvent utilisée en gestion forestière. Il s'agit d'un bon indicateur du niveau de développement des peuplements, pouvant être employé pour estimer le niveau de productivité des peuplements purs équiennes. Cependant, son estimation à partir de mesures de terrain est relativement fastidieuse et coûteuse. Depuis plusieurs années, le LiDAR est reconnu pour sa capacité à estimer la hauteur des couverts forestiers de manière précise. En Wallonie, une couverture LiDAR basse densité (0,8 points/m² au sol) est disponible sur l’intégralité du territoire. Cet article présente un outil d’aide à la gestion forestière s’appuyant sur un modèle de prédiction de la hauteur dominante à partir de données LiDAR aérien. Les estimations fournies par ce modèle sont ensuite couplées à des modèles de croissance en hauteur dominante qui permettent une mise à jour de la hauteur dominante au cours du temps et l’estimation du Site Index (indice de productivité). Cet outil a été validé pour les peuplements d’épicéa commun (Picea abies (L.) H. Karst.f) et de douglas (Pseudotsuga menziesii (Mirb.) Franco) sur une emprise géographique correspondant à la Wallonie (Belgique).Pour permettre une utilisation aisée, il a été intégré dans un plugin du logiciel de Système d’Information Géographique (SIG) open source QGIS. Gratuit et facile d’utilisation, il est destiné aux gestionnaires forestiers et aux scientifiques.

Apparue dans les années 1970 au Nord Cameroun, la traction asine est aujourd’hui utilisée par 25 000 « petits » agriculteurs. La capacité de travail de l’âne est juste suffisante pour les travaux agricoles. Le maintien dans un état nutritionnel correct est déterminant pour garantir une endurance à l’effort acceptable. Cette condition est loin d’être satisfaite. Dans cette étude, l’état nutritionnel des ânes de trait du Nord Cameroun a été caractérisé au moyen d’une grille de notation de l’état corporel. Une note de dos et une note de flanc, sur une échelle de 1 à 4 (émacié, maigre, moyen, bon) ont été attribuées à vue selon l’aspect du bassin, de la colonne vertébrale et du côté. La moyenne des deux notes, arrondie au demi-point supérieur, a donné la note globale. La corrélation des notes entre différents notateurs a été voisine de 80 p. 100, ce qui est un bon indice de reproductibilité. Un suivi de 41 mâles et 34 femelles a montré que durant la saison sèche, la note 3 a largement dominé (50 à 70 p. 100). D’octobre à janvier, les animaux maigres (note 2), ayant profité du changement de saison et d’environnement pathologique, ont reconstitué leurs réserves, tandis que les animaux bons (note 4) ont maigri avec les premières rigueurs de la saison sèche. De janvier à juin, la raréfaction progressive des ressources alimentaires a provoqué un amaigrissement généralisé, femelles gravides exceptées. Chez les mâles, la proportion des notes 2 est passée de 10 à 20 p. 100 entre le début et la fin de la saison sèche. Chez les femelles, cette proportion a été importante et constante tout au long de l’année (30 à 40 p. 100). Des actions d’amélioration de l’alimentation doivent être ciblées sur les femelles.

Introduction Nous avons mis au point des algorithmes de forêt aléatoire pour prédire le risque que les jeunes Ontariens essaient un jour la cigarette électronique (vapotage) et qu’ils l’utilisent de façon quotidienne, puis nous avons examiné l’importance des prédicteurs et l’interaction statistique. Méthodologie Cette étude transversale repose sur un échantillon représentatif d’élèves du primaire et du secondaire de l’Ontario en 2019 (N = 6471). Nous avons utilisé la fréquence du vapotage au cours des 12 derniers mois pour définir l’essai de vapotage (avoir déjà expérimenté de vapoter) et le vapotage quotidien. Nous avons intégré un vaste ensemble de caractéristiques individuelles comme corrélats possibles de l’essai de vapotage (176 variables) et du vapotage quotidien (179 variables). À l’aide de la validation croisée, nous avons élaboré des algorithmes de forêt aléatoire et nous avons évalué le rendement du modèle selon l’indice de concordance, une mesure qui permet d’évaluer la capacité discriminatoire d’un modèle, et ce, pour les deux résultats. En outre, nous avons défini les 10 corrélats principaux grâce au calcul du score de l’importance relative et leur interaction avec les caractéristiques sociodémographiques. Résultats Dans l’échantillon, 2064 (31,9 %) répondants avaient déjà essayé le vapotage et 490 (7,6 %) des répondants étaient des consommateurs quotidiens. Les algorithmes de forêt aléatoire pour les deux résultats ont fourni une performance élevée, avec un indice de concordance supérieur à 0,90. Les 10 corrélats principaux du vapotage quotidien concernaient la consommation de caféine, de cannabis et de tabac, la source et le type de cigarette électronique et l’absentéisme scolaire au cours des 20 derniers jours. Les corrélats de l’essai de vapotage étaient la taille de l’école, la consommation d’alcool, de cannabis et de tabac et, de plus, 9 des 10 principaux corrélats de l’essai de vapotage affichaient des interactions avec l’ethnicité. Conclusion L’apprentissage automatique est une méthodologie prometteuse pour déterminer les risques d’essai de vapotage et de vapotage quotidien. En outre, il permet d’en cerner les corrélats importants et d’évaluer les recoupements complexes, ce qui pourrait être utile pour les futures études longitudinales visant à personnaliser les politiques de santé publique pour certains groupes cibles de population.

Seven methods of estimating or predicting phosphorus (P) sorption capacity were compared for 47 neutral to acid Western Australian soils. Two methods, the P buffer capacity (PBC) and the Fox and Kamprath procedure, provided reliable indices of P sorption from well defined P sorption isotherms, but they are not quick routine methods because several levels of P addition are required. The other five routine procedures included two versions of the P retention index (PRI), determined by adding one level of P, and three soil properties, oxalate extractable iron (oxalate Fe), oxalate extractable aluminium (oxalate Al), and pH measured in sodium fluoride [pH (F)], that are known to indicate P sorption capacity. All the indices were well related to one another. The oxalate Fe index was the least well related to PBC whereas oxalate Al, one of the PRI indices, and pH (F) were closely related to PBC and could be used as quick, economical procedures to assess the P sorption capacity of soils.

Background: Currently, there is a growing interest in new local coordination compounds (CC), which demonstrated antitumor properties, but their influence on the erythrocyte antioxidant system has not been studied. The aim of the study: to study the effects of CC, thiosemicarbazide derivatives –TIA-160, CMT-67 and CMJ-33 on indices of the antioxidant system indicators in erythrocytes peripheral blood in vivo experiments. Material and methods: The action of CC on superoxide dismutase, catalase, total antioxidant capacity was evaluated on a group of 34 white rats, randomly divided into 4 groups: the first control group was injected subcutaneously with saline. The other groups (2 – TIA-160, 3 – CMT-67 and 4 – CMJ-33) were given subcutaneously 3 times a week for 30 days, 0.1µM / kg CC. Results: It was established that the TIA-160 compound demonstrated the highest capacity to induce the expression of erythrocyte catalase that exceeded the control level of 1.8, which did not correlate with the enzymatic superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity. Thus, this study showed that there are differences in the mechanisms of action of thiosemicarbazone derivatives. Conclusions: The influence of tested CC on the indices of the antioxidant system is selective. This selectivity may be the base to their strong selective antiproliferative and cytotoxic action on tumor cells, but not on healthy ones.

Plant’s nitrogen (N) requirement that is not fulfilled by available N in soil has to be supplied externally through chemical fertilizers. A reliable estimate of soil N-supplying capacity (NSC) is therefore essential for efficient fertilizer use. In this study involving a pot experiment with twenty acidic soils varying widely in properties, we evaluated six chemical indices of soil N-availability viz. organic carbon (C<sub>org</sub>), total N (N<sub>tot</sub>), acid and alkaline-KMnO<sub>4</sub> extractable-N, hot KCl extractable-N (KCl-N) and phosphate-borate buffer extractable-N (PBB-N), based on their strength of correlation with available-N values obtained through aerobic incubation (AI-N) and anaerobic incubation (ANI-N), and also with the dry matter yield (DMY), N percentage and plant (maize) N uptake (PNU). In general, the soils showed large variability in NSC as indicated by variability in PNU which ranged from 598 to 1026 mg/pot. Correlations of the N-availability indices with AI-N and ANI-N decreased in the order: PBB-N (r = 0.784** and 0.901**) > KCl-N (r = 0.773** and 0.743**) > acid KMnO<sub>4</sub>-N (r = 0.575** and 0.651**) ≥ C<sub>org</sub> (r = 0.591** and 0.531**) ≥ alkaline KMnO<sub>4</sub>-N (r = 0.394** and 0.548**) > N<sub>tot</sub> (r = 0.297** and 0.273*). Of all the indices evaluated, PBB-N showed the best correlations with plant parameters as well (r = 0.790** and 0.793** for DMY and PNU, respectively). Based on the highest correlations of PBB-N with biological indices as well as plant responses, we propose PBB-N as an appropriate index of N-availability in the acidic soils of India and other regions with similar soils.

In the modern world, there are many causes (reducing the elasticity of the lungs, reducing bronchial tubes, reducing the strength of the respiratory muscles) that affect the parameters of external respiration. Knowledge of age, sexual and regional features of spirometric indicators helps to differentiate and detect the degree of disturbance of respiratory biomechanics and to choose effective treatments that are most appropriate for established violations. The purpose of the work is to establish the age-old peculiarities of the spirographic indexes of virtually healthy young men and women within the juvenile period of ontogenesis. We conducted a survey of 141 young women (from 16 to 20 years of age) and 154 young men (from 17 to 21 years) of adolescence. The spirographic study was conducted according to the generally accepted methodology of the American Association of Pulmonologists adopted in 1994 on the device Medgraphics Pulmonary Function System 1070 series. The analysis of the obtained results was carried out with the help of the license program "Statistica 5.5" using nonparametric methods of estimating indicators. The progressive age dynamics of the vital capacity, forced vital capacity, forced capacity of the lungs on the inhalation, volume exhalation velocity was detected in young women in 25% and 50% respectively of the forced vital capacity, the average expiration flow, the residual volume of exhalation and the forced inspiratory flow, respectively is 50% of exhalation from the forced vital capacity. In the last year (20 years) of the youthful period of ontogenesis in young women, the maximum arbitrary ventilation of the lungs is increased, the volume exhalation rate is 75%, and from 75% to 85% of exhalation from the forced vital capacity, the one-second volume of forced exhalation and maximal peak flow of exhalation. Within the juvenile period of ontogenesis in young men, the vital capacity of the lungs increases, the maximum arbitrary ventilation of the lungs and the maximum peak flow of exhalation. Only in the last year of the youthful period of ontogeny (21 years) in young men there is an increase in forced vital capacity, volume exhalation velocity, respectively, in 25% of the forced vital capacity, the residual volume of exhalation, one-second volume of forced exhalation was observed at the end.

Ensuring acceptable thermal comfort conditions in public spaces is nowadays a major concern of urban design. A number of indices have been proposed in the literature, namely PMV, PET, SET*, UTCI, PT, mPET and MOCI. The present study aims to find the most suitable index the outdoor thermal comfort assessment in the city of Jijel by comparing the predictive capacities of these indices in terms of frequency occurrence and by relating them with the contextual responses of users. These indices are defined, their feature is analysed and finally explored. Thermal comfort based on these indices was evaluated using RayMan and Townscope softwares. The choice among these indices needs their comparison with data gathered from a survey by questionnaire. The findings indicate a slight agreement between these indices and the perceived sensation (PESV) values in the range of -1 and +1, especially with the indices SET* and mPET. However, for the classes +2 and +4, a significant disagreement is observed. For the class +3, however, only PET, PMV and SET* are more joined to the perceived sensation values. The disagreements may be related to the physical environment characteristics, the subjective perception, and the adaptation attitude of the users. Thus, further indices calibration investigation is needed for better prediction of comfort taking into account local specificities. Based on the indices which are relatively in agreement with PESV, a neutral air temperature of 19.8 °C in winter and 20.4 °C in summer for the city of Jijel is deduced. Also, a comfort zone of 17.3 to 22.4 °C in winter and 18 to 22.8 °C in summer is extrapolated.

ABSTRACT Serotype-specific differences in the capacity of reovirus strains to inhibit proliferation of murine L929 cells correlate with the capacity to induce apoptosis. The prototype serotype 3 reovirus strains Abney (T3A) and Dearing (T3D) inhibit cellular proliferation and induce apoptosis to a greater extent than the prototype serotype 1 reovirus strain Lang (T1L). We now show that reovirus-induced inhibition of cellular proliferation results from a G2/M cell cycle arrest. Using T1L × T3D reassortant viruses, we found that strain-specific differences in the capacity to induce G2/M arrest, like the differences in the capacity to induce apoptosis, are determined by the viral S1 gene. The S1 gene is bicistronic, encoding the viral attachment protein ς1 and the nonstructural protein ς1s. A ς1s-deficient reovirus strain, T3C84-MA, fails to induce G2/M arrest, yet retains the capacity to induce apoptosis, indicating that ς1s is required for reovirus-induced G2/M arrest. Expression of ς1s in C127 cells increases the percentage of cells in the G2/M phase of the cell cycle, supporting a role for this protein in reovirus-induced G2/M arrest. Inhibition of reovirus-induced apoptosis failed to prevent virus-induced G2/M arrest, indicating that G2/M arrest is not the result of apoptosis related DNA damage and suggests that these two processes occur through distinct pathways.

The aim of this study was conducted to assess the combined ability, for chlorophyll content, proline content, and dehydration capacity of the leaves. In this sense was used 4 x 4 half diallel crosses of winter barley to identify the best parents and combinations of these. Combining ability analysis provides important information for selecting parents in terms of the performance of their hybrids for future use in breeding programs. For chlorophyll content, the additive gene action presented a major influence. The greatest general combining effects for proline content were achieved in the Adi and DH 260/18 varieties, the Adi variety possessing a high potential for transmitting this character to the offspring. The Andrew variety (-1.32) registered the most valuable additive effects for improving the dehydration capacity of the leaves.

The use of high-quality seeds in the production process of cropgrowing is one of the main criteria for obtaining a good harvest. The research goal is to study the effect of pre-sowing seed treatment with biological preparations on barley yield formation under the conditions of the Altai Re-gion’s Ob River area. The research was carried out in 2019 and 2020 in the Altai Region’s Ob River area. The research target was the Vorsinskiy barley variety and the biological preparations used for pre-sowing seed treatment. The ex-periment included 10 variants; of those 4 variants using biological preparations obtained based on processed agri-cultural and woodworking wastes, and top peat processed by autohydrolysis-explosion. The control consisted in seed treatment with distilled water. The results obtained showed that the use of biological preparations in barley cultivation had a positive effect on the final result -crop yield. The average results over two years of testing showed a wide range of yield variations in the experiment variants. The yield values varied from 2.15 t ha in the Variant no. 8 to 2.82 t ha in the Variant no. 5; the control -2.60 t ha. The yield value in the Variant no. 5 with the use of top peat preparation was the maximum in the experiment. On aver-age, over two years of research, the variability in the vari-ants was from the medium of 10% < Cv < 20% in the Vari-ants no. 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 to high Cv > 20% -Variants no. 6, 8, 9, 10. The maximum positive effect on the yield formation of the Vorsinskiy barley variety is exerted by pre-sowing seed treatment with the preparations based of plant residues (sunflower husk, oat chaff -Variants no. 3, 4), woodworking wastes (pine needles -Variant no. 2) and top peat (Variant no. 5) processed by autohydrolysis explosion.

Background. The synthesis of allergen-specific blocking IgGs that interact with IgE after allergen immunotherapy (SIT) has been related to clinical efficacy. The objectives were to investigate the epitope specificity of IgG-antibodies induced by depigmented-polymerized (Dpg-Pol) allergoids and unmodified allergen extracts, and examine IgE-blocking activity of induced IgG-antibodies.Methods. Rabbits were immunized with native and Dpg-Pol extracts of birch pollen, and serum samples were obtained. Recognition of linear IgG-epitopes of Bet v 1 and Bet v 2 and the capacity of these IgG-antibodies to block binding of human-IgE was determined.Results. Serum from rabbits immunized with native extracts recognised 11 linear epitopes from Bet v 1, while that from Dpg-Pol-immunized animals recognised 8. For Bet v 2, 8 epitopes were recognized by IgG from native immunized animals, and 9 from Dpg-Pol immunized one. Dpg-Pol and native immunized serum did not always recognise the same epitopes, but specific-IgG from both could block human-IgE binding sites for native extract.Conclusions. Depigmented-polymerized birch extract stimulates the synthesis of specific IgG-antibodies which recognize common but also novel epitopes compared with native extracts. IgG-antibodies induced by Dpg-Pol effectively inhibit human-IgE binding to allergens which may be part of the mechanism of action of SIT.
