Financial specialists in investment banks are professional group with high importance for economy, however managerial knowledge of their specific is far from being wide. Based on recently published text the article presents discussions about values systems of three different knowledge workers groups: physicists (medical doctors), IT workers and financial specialists working for investments bank on financial expert position. Based on qualitative research (in-depth interviews) with Polish financial expert their differences towards City colleges and two others knowledge workers are described. Discussion of differences among the four groups are conducted and some managerial recommendation formulated, as well as future research agenda.

<p>Values and differences in corporate governance across the world are part and partially related and it is obvious that owners know what results they want to have from the corporations in the long run. In this regard, some scientific studies have revealed that owners would be succeed in a dynamic environment only if they formulate ownership strategy based on values. Consequently, to understand corporate governance better, some research has been carried out on corporate governance by relating values towards the area of knowledge but there is a scarcity of research which proposing comprehensive and explains corporate governance systems consisting values. Therefore, authors of this paper identified the following research problem which is: “Lacking of theory behind corporate governance systems including values which gives an opportunity towards the owners under different corporate governance systems to analyse its own behaviour, learning, managing knowledge, and finally clearly expressing ownership will in the form of an ownership strategy.” There were two data set was analysed in this study. One is Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) company law and corporate governance database based on member countries submission and the second set of data is Schwartz’s value survey to characterise multiple countries by their culture. Methodologically, after using multi quantitative tools this study is valuable to analyse all the secondary data to produce new knowledge, adopting different theoretical lens, by analysing and understanding the interrelationships of values and different systems of corporate governance across the world. The result of the study comes with a typology including values based three ideal types (Affective type, Cognitive type and Conative type) of corporate governance systems, with a practical contribution towards enriching the available knowledge for owners to formulate ownership strategy. Considering future direction, the constructed typology is required for assessment of the capability of refutation aside from OECD countries.<strong></strong></p>

PurposeThe purpose of this paper was to examine knowledge hiding behaviours with perceived conflict types, competition and personal values of employees.Design/methodology/approachTwo studies were carried out and structural equation modelling and moderated regression analyses were conducted to test the hypotheses.FindingsStudy I, with employees from software development companies, revealed that task conflict and relationship conflict have additive effect on knowledge hiding behaviour. Additionally, task conflict is positively related to employees’ perceived competition. However, no mediation role of perceived competition was found between conflict types and knowledge hiding. Study II, with employees from the banking sector, indicated that employees’ individualistic or collectivistic values play a moderating role between perceived task conflict and knowledge hiding behaviours. The negative effect of task conflict on knowledge hiding behaviour is higher if the individuals have individualistic personal values.Practical implicationsThis study contributes to managers by offering some guidance on what can be the results of conflict and competition between employees and how employees’ personal values can affect conflict and knowledge hiding relation.Originality/valueTo the challenges of knowledge hiding behaviour outcomes for businesses, many managers should first consider the predictors of knowledge hiding and then find some solutions against the negative consequences. This study is one of the first to examine knowledge hiding with regard to conflict types, perceived competition between employees and personal values of employees.

The present study contributes to innovation research by distinguishing between national innovation in the knowledge and technology domain (knowledge and technology output) versus that in the creative industries (creative output), and examining how these two types of innovation would benefit from high-quality basic education in different cultural contexts. We argue that because creative output requires symbolic knowledge (i.e., negotiation of new meanings), it would benefit from a national context that has not only high-quality basic education but also favorable cultural values (low self-protective values or high self-expansion values). By contrast, knowledge and technology output requires analytic and synthetic knowledge mainly and thus would benefit from high-quality basic education regardless of cultural values. To test these ideas, we performed regression analyses using three archival datasets (the Programme for International Student Assessment [PISA], the Schwartz Value Survey, and the Global Innovation Index) of 32 nations. The results in general supported our predictions such that a high level of self-protective values dampens the positive relationship between quality of basic education and creative output only, but not knowledge and technology output. Implications of these findings were discussed.

AbstractWhat is the relation between the intentionality of states and attitudes which can miss their mark, such as belief and desire, and the intentionality of acts, states and attitudes which cannot miss their mark, such as the different types of knowledge and simple seeing? Two theories of the first type of intentionality, the theory of correctness conditions and the theory of satisfaction conditions, are compared. It is argued that knowledge always involves knowledge of formal objects such as facts and values, that emotions are reactions to (apparently) known values and that beliefs are reactions to known or apparently known facts or to the objects of relational states.

The goal of the following article is to show that the system of values (ideals and worldview attitudes) affects the nature and results of scientific work of a researcher. It is showed, that socio-cultural and historical conditionality of scientific knowledge is implemented not only by the impact of social institutions, investment policy and state support for science, but also through the system of value orientations of scientists themselves. It was analyzed the axiological views in the application of scientific knowledge to such prominent outstanding thinkers such as I. Kant, H. Rickert, M. Weber, W. Dilthey. We prove that an approach which recognizes that the values in science express socio-cultural conditioning of science, and becomes the determining factor in philosophy of social and humanitarian knowledge. Purpose Environmental behavior studies suggest that knowledge, in addition to other psychological and social factors, can play an important role in consumers’ environmental behavior change. The purpose of this paper is to understand the relationship between knowledge and various psychological factors which encourage consumers’ participation in pro-environmental behaviors. The relationships that link an individual’s attitudes toward science, environmental values, different types of knowledge (i.e. scientific facts, environmental facts, and subjective environmental knowledge), environmental risk perception, and willingness to pay (WTP) for the environment with pro-environmental behavior were examined. Design/methodology/approach Theoretically guided hypotheses and model were formulated and tested with multiple linear regression models. The study was based on measures and data obtained from the large-sample secondary database of the 2010 General Social Survey (n=2,044). Findings Results indicated that while attitudes toward science had direct effects on knowledge of scientific facts and knowledge of environmental facts, environmental values showed effects on knowledge of environmental facts and subjective knowledge on environmental issues. The results also indicated that from different types of knowledge, subjective knowledge on environmental issues had effects on both environmental risk perception and WTP for the environment. Knowledge on environmental facts, on the other hand, was able to predict only environmental risk perception. The scientific factual knowledge did not show an effect on mediator of pro-environmental behavior. Also, subjective knowledge indicated indirect effects on pro-environmental behavior through environmental risk perception and WTP for the environment. Originality/value Although research on understanding factors influencing pro-environmental behaviors and potential relations to individual knowledge has grown in recent years, there has been very little attempt at distinguishing between different types of knowledge and investigating their potential roles in the context of environmentally relevant behaviors. This study will help understand the functioning of different types of consumer environmental knowledge and their impacts on pro-environmental behaviors more in depth.

Previous research in computer science shows that software developers are typically deluged by an enormous volume of information daily. Improving the effectiveness of developers to filter this information may yield significant productivity improvements. To combat this overload, we introduce an indicator, called degree-of-knowledge (DOK), which is a real value indicating how much knowledge a developer has with a source code element. A developer’s DOK values for a source code base can be computed automatically from authorship data mined from the source revision systems and from interaction data collected as the developer works. This indicator may help reduce information overload by, for instance, filtering the source code to only show the elements for which a developer has high knowledge. We describe our implementation of an efficient framework for computing DOK values in a development environment.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The thesis studies the relationship between knowledge creation and organisational culture. To do that the relations between Nonaka's enabling conditions and the four organisational culture types according to the competing value framework of Cameron and Quinn were tested in two organisations. Whilst many authors are critical of the specifics of Nonaka and Takeuchi’s model of knowledge conversion, most seem to agree with their argument about the requisite enabling conditions for knowledge creation. It is argued that these enabling conditions are shaped by the organisational culture and therefore this relation is of some importance. The empirical research was based on two part questionnaire. The first part of the questionnaire concerned the knowledge creation enablers. The indicators for this part of the instrument had to be developed from the knowledge creation literature. The second part of the questionnaire was based on the validated Cameron and Quinn organisational culture assessment instrument. Since Nonaka recommends a middle-up-down approach for managing knowledge creation in organisations, the questionnaire was directed at the middle management of the selected organisations. 140 questionnaires were sent out and two organisations had adequate responses for statistical data analysis. The results showed that one organisation has a strong market culture. This organisation displayed requisite variety, creative chaos and autonomy as enablers for knowledge creation. The market culture is an organisation’s response to an environment filled with complexities of the brand market which requires the presence of requisite variety and creative chaos. The organisation uses autonomous work teams, hence the prominence of autonomy. The second organisation competes in the business solutions market. Here, the dominant culture type was that of a clan and the organisation was strong in most knowledge creation enablers except redundancy and ba. The dominance in clan culture is in line with a medium size company that is competing in the big league of providers of business solutions and the organisation believes that its success is in providing unique business solutions thanks to teamwork and working like family. It is concluded that for an organization to be competitive requires one dominant appropriate culture and not necessarily all knowledge creating enablers.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Die tesis ondersoek die verband tussen kennisskepping en organisasie kultuur. Dit word gedoen deur die relasie tussen Nonaka se omgewingsomstandighede vir kennisskepping en die vier organisatoriese kultuurtipes van Cameron en Quinn in twee organisasies te meet. Terwyl baie skrywers krities is oor die besonderhede van Nonaka en Takeuchi se model van kennisskepping, is die meeste met hulle eens oor die omgewingsomstandighede wat kennisskepping in staat stel. Daar word geargumenteer dat hierdie omgewingsomstandighede hoofsaaklik deur die organisasie kultuur beïnvloed word en daarom is hierdie verband belangrik. Die dominansie van klan-tipe kultuur strook met ‘n mediumgrootte maatskappy wat unieke oplossings moet bied gebaseer op spanwerk in kompetisie met groter konsultasie maatskappye. Die gevolgtrekking is dat ‘n dominante kultuurtipe ‘n voordeel is vir ‘n organisasie om te kan kompeteer, eerder as die teenwoordigheid van al die omgewingsomstandighede vir kennisskepping.

Nonprofit hospital systems must complete a community health needs assessment (CHNA). In healthcare there is a lack of consensus on what skills, knowledge and values are important for the person managing CHNA departments, including educational background appropriate or needed to be successful. This is an exploratory study of one healthcare system. The study seeks to identify the perception of what skills, knowledge and values are necessary to be an effective CHNA manager, and how that aligns with the skills, knowledge and values taught in public health, community development and social work. The study utilizes grounded theory, inductive research and evaluative research methods. Question: What are the perceived most important skills, values and knowledge for the CHNA manager to be effective in their role by CHNA personnel? How do those skills, knowledge and values align with macro practice social work, public health, and community development education in healthcare?

This paper concerns the issue of ignorance about values, and how to best deal with it.I try to find out what we ought to do when we are ignorant of what it is valuable topromote. The proposed solution is an indirect system of “provisional values”, builtaround three goals that are likely to increase our chances of achieving real value,should such a thing be possible.These three provisional goals the system gives us are as follows: knowledge,optionality, and diversity.Knowledge is the traditional way of trying to relieve our ignorance and has beenthe focus of most philosophizing about value.Optionality means having options, or the power to act differently. This is likelyto become important should we ever discover what it is actually valuable to do.Finally, diversity is simply the idea that, not knowing what truly is valuable, weshould do as much as possible of everything in the hope that some of it may bevaluable.
Denna uppsats handlar om problemet med vår brist på kunskap om värde och hur manbäst hanterar det. Jag försöker ta reda på vad vi borde göra i situationer där vi ärokunniga om vilka mål som är värdefulla att uppnå. Den lösning som föreslås är ettindirekt system av ”provisoriskt värde”. Detta system är uppbyggt kring tre mål somsannolikt kommer att öka våra chanser att uppnå direkta eller verkliga värden, om ensådan sak skulle vara möjlig. Dessa tre provisoriska mål som systemet ger oss ärföljande: kunskap, optionalitet och mångfald.Kunskap är det traditionella sättet att försöka lindra vår okunnighet, och harvarit fokus för det mesta filosoferandet om värde.Optionalitet innebär att ha alternativ eller makten att agera annorlunda. Dettakommer sannolikt att bli viktigt om vi någonsin upptäcker vad det är värdefullt attgöra.Slutligen är mångfald helt enkelt tanken att om vi inte vet vad som verkligen ärvärdefullt så bör vi göra så mycket som möjligt av allt i hopp om att något av det kanvisa sig värdefullt.

AbstractThis chapter explores how the concept of phronesis (practical wisdom) promotes research that goes beyond the three traditional research goals—exploration, description and explanation—and aims at the improvement of practice, refinement of values and production of knowledge. When applied to research activity, the concept of practical wisdom opens up possibilities of realising co-development of theoretical knowledge, reflection over values and improvement of practice at the same time, constituting a type of values work. This chapter addresses how such research on values can be undertaken within organisations, with a special focus on reflection in groups. It also presents an example of a research study informed by phronesis.

AbstractThere are different types of public policy problems. In democratic political systems, policy problems arise in very diverse political and institutional contexts. These influence how the problems are debated and resolved. Policy decision-making is structured through organisational processes that reflect historical institutional arrangements. Complex policy problems often involve conflicting interests and divergent perceptions among various stakeholder groups. Disagreements about problems and policies arise from many factors, including material interests, socio-cultural values and political (dis)trust. The framing of problems and solutions is expressed in different ways, through the language of economic benefits, ideological outlooks, group values and political loyalties. Leaders of political, economic and social organisations argue for the priority of some issues over others, depending on their judgements about threats, rewards and opportunities. Leaders typically offer simplified and persuasive narratives about problems and solutions, in order to attract wide support for their preferred approach. Evidence and expertise are mobilised selectively by policy actors to influence the perceived credibility of their own favoured policy options. However, rigorous evidence is not privileged in everyday politics—policy debates are structured through the interplay of many forms of knowledge, values, emotions and interests. Expertise can assist in managing complex problems but never determines the outcomes.

AbstractThe airfreight industry of shipping goods with special handling needs, also known as special cargo, suffers from nontransparent shipping processes, resulting in inefficiency. The LARA project (Lane Analysis and Route Advisor) aims at addressing these limitations and bringing innovation in special cargo route planning so as to improve operational deficiencies and customer services. In this chapter, we discuss the special cargo domain knowledge elicitation and modeling into an ontology. We also present research into cargo incidents, namely, automatic classification of incidents in free-text reports and experiments in detecting significant features associated with specific cargo incident types. Our work mainly addresses two of the main technical priority areas defined by the European Big Data Value (BDV) Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda, namely, the application of data analytics to improve data understanding and providing optimized architectures for analytics of data-at-rest and data-in-motion, the overall goal is to develop technologies contributing to the data value chain in the logistics sector. It addresses the horizontal concerns Data Analytics, Data Processing Architectures, and Data Management of the BDV Reference Model. It also addresses the vertical dimension Big Data Types and Semantics.

AbstractLately, several studies have added crucial knowledge to our understanding of social movement participation by demonstrating its processual nature and how it relates to individual-level movement outcomes. Still, moral factors like values remain understudied. This paper develops a model of relationships between two types of value predispositions—self-transcendence and conformity—and differential participation in humanitarian activities, political protest and civil disobedience and their consequences for attitudinal changes of loss of institutional trust and an altered view of refugee policies. We use cross-sectional survey data from the mobilisation of the Danish refugee solidarity movement, which was revitalised in response to the 2015 refugee crisis. The main finding is that values, in accordance with our theoretical expectations, mainly influence attitudinal outcomes mediated by contexts of different kinds of movement activities. Conformity relates to participation in non-contentious humanitarian support activities that do not relate to any attitudinal outcomes. The non-conform and self-transcendent respondents participate to a higher degree in contentious political protest and civil disobedience, which relates to a loss of trust in the political institutions. The results suggest that heterogeneity of values and contexts of activism within a movement have implications for social movements’ role in the struggles for society’s fundamental morality, individual-level biographical outcomes of activism and movements’ internal processes related to collective identity.

Abstract We propose a methodology to improve rock type classification using machine learning (ML) techniques and to reveal causal inferences between reservoir quality and well log measurements. Rock type classification is an essential step in accurate reservoir modeling and forecasting. Machine learning approaches allow to automate rock type classification based on different well logs and core data. In order to choose the best model which does not progradate uncertainty further into the workflow it is important to interpret machine learning results. Feature importance and feature selection methods are usually employed for that. We propose an extension to existing approaches - model agnostic sensitivity algorithm based on Shapley values. The paper describes a full workflow to rock type prediction using well log data: from data preparation, model building, feature selection to causal inference analysis. We made ML models that classify rock types using well logs (sonic, gamma, density, photoelectric and resistivity) from 21 wells as predictors and conduct a causal inference analysis between reservoir quality and well logs responses using Shapley values (a concept from a game theory). As a result of feature selection, we obtained predictors which are statistically significant and at the same time relevant in causal relation context. Macro F1-score of the best obtained models for both cases is 0.79 and 0.85 respectively. It was found that the ML models can infer domain knowledge, which allows us to confirm the adequacy of the built ML model for rock types prediction. Our insight was to recognize the need to properly account for the underlying causal structure between the features and rock types in order to derive meaningful and relevant predictors that carry a significant amount of information contributing to the final outcome. Also, we demonstrate the robustness of revealed patterns by applying the Shapley values methodology to a number of ML models and show consistency in order of the most important predictors. Our analysis shows that machine learning classifiers gaining high accuracy tend to mimic physical principles behind different logging tools, in particular: the longer the travel time of an acoustic wave the higher probability that media is represented by reservoir rock and vice versa. On the contrary lower values of natural radioactivity and density of rock highlight the presence of a reservoir. The article presents causal inference analysis of ML classification models using Shapley values on 2 real-world reservoirs. The rock class labels from core data are used to train a supervised machine learning algorithm to predict classes from well log response. The aim of supervised learning is to label a small portion of a dataset and allow the algorithm to automate the rest. Such data-driven analysis may optimize well logging, coring, and core analysis programs. This algorithm can be extended to any other reservoir to improve rock type prediction. The novelty of the paper is that such analysis reveals the nature of decisions made by the ML model and allows to apply truly robust and reliable petrophysics-consistent ML models for rock type classification.

t The paper describes the results of the case-study where the students’ outcomes in the mathematics midterm exams were compared regarding the type of the teaching method used during the course: in-class or online. In the analyses, various factors such as prior knowledge of math from secondary school, engagement in learning activities, and success in e-lessons were taken into account. The results of the case study could not confirm any significant difference in average outcomes of both groups of students. We can therefore conclude that the type of the teaching method (in-class or online), as well as the method of knowledge examination, have no significant impact on students’ outcome. Furthermore, the results also showed that the students who took the course online expressed a higher level of engagement in comparison to those who participated in class. Their greater engagement in learning activities can be explained through the fact that the online course took place during lock-down due to COVID-19 pandemic in Slovenia. Namely, the strong lock-down measures disable the students to perform various extracurricular activities, which can result in their stronger motivation to perform study activities on a regular basis.

The Swedish government has recently invested millions in ‘welfare technologies’, which are aimed at both enhancing safety and solve the demographic problem of an increasing elderly population and a consequent lack of healthcare personnel. Studies have shown that when welfare technologies are implemented, core values are getting lost due to a lack of knowledge on how to transform the caregiving and care-taking relationship through the use of digital technology. This study investigates correspondences between values associated with two welfare technology definitions and the ideal-types of a welfare and an industrial society. The results show that the definition created by IT & Telecom Industries includes values that are similar to those of the industrial society ideal-type, while the definition created by the Swedish Auxiliary Institute includes values similar to those associated with the welfare society ideal-type. This shows a gap in value prioritization of the creators of these definitions, which leads to confusion regarding the purpose of welfare technologies.

Covid 19 is a disease that has spread all over the world. It caused upheavals in all societies and segments of society. This also relates to the Serbian society and its educational system. Education, as an important part of society, experienced a concussion. Serbia's cumbersome education system, many ongoing reforms, dissatisfaction of educators, many unresolved issues were now additionally burdened by the crown and everything it brings with it. How much of the education system, to which the primary school belongs, has successfully responded to these changes? The inflexibility and inelasticity of the education system was a major obstacle in response to such a large demand made by the Coronavirus. The transition from school to online teaching was stressful for all participants: pupils, parents and teachers. In addition to changes in the way of working, primary schools in Serbia have faced problems with the lack of information technology needed for distance learning, teaching staff who are not educated for this type of teaching, but also the quality of such teaching. All this raised the question of the quality of knowledge that pupils acquired during distance learning. The paper will discuss the management of the primary school at the time of the Covid 19, the problems encountered and how they were solved.

The goal of anomaly detection is to identify anomalous samples from normal ones. In this paper, a small number of anomalies are assumed to be available at the training stage, but they are assumed to be collected only from several anomaly types, leaving the majority of anomaly types not represented in the collected anomaly dataset at all. To effectively leverage this kind of incomplete anomalous knowledge represented by the collected anomalies, we propose to learn a probability distribution that can not only model the normal samples, but also guarantee to assign low density values for the collected anomalies. To this end, an anomaly-aware generative adversarial network (GAN) is developed, which, in addition to modeling the normal samples as most GANs do, is able to explicitly avoid assigning probabilities for collected anomalous samples. Moreover, to facilitate the computation of anomaly detection criteria like reconstruction error, the proposed anomaly-aware GAN is designed to be bidirectional, attaching an encoder for the generator. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that our proposed method is able to effectively make use of the incomplete anomalous information, leading to significant performance gains comparing to existing methods.

The purpose of this paper was to investigate the differences in adolescentsʼ parentsʼ perception regarding the illegal drugs and drugs consumption among the adolescents. In order to carry out the research, a sociological questionnaire was developed, subsecvently to a qualitative information obtained by organizing 6 focus groups. The field survey was conducted in the municipality of Arad consisted of polling through the questionnaire technique a number of 204 families of students from 12 high schools. The results showed significant differences at thresholds of less than 0.05 between the group with high school and university degrees for variable knowledge and symptoms, between the parent group of Catholic religion and the other two groups (Orthodox and neo-Protestant) for knowledge and drug variables and also significant differences depending of the family structure. Furthermore, there were no significant differences between groups regarding the financial level of the families and the living environment. During the research there was also followed the perspective of the parents of adolescents on the most used drugs among the students: in their opinion, the most used drugs are marijuana and ethnobotanical, with 120, respectively 113 points, followed by ecstasy and cocaine, with 75, respectively 64 points, and on the last places on consumption are the other types of drugs tested, with scores below 35 points. The result of Chi-square test showed that the values of χ² are statistically significant for all drug categories, except for ethnobotanicals, in other words, the results can be generalized to the entire population.

Rigidity of the financial reporting model in contemporary business conditions the era of the „knowledge economy” influenced the creation of significant differences between the market and book values of companies. Characteristic of enterprises in the „new” economy is the high share of knowledge and other intellectual resources in the structure of total assets, which are at the same time the basic source of competitiveness of enterprises. Given the changing habits of consumers who are inclined to buy products on the market that identify a high degree of „embedded” knowledge, companies base their business on investing in R&D and investing in various types of intellectual property and protecting them. Due to certain limitations of financial reporting when identifying and measuring intellectual resources in an enterprise, users of financial statements are unable to get a realistic picture of the value of assets and the corresponding investments when it comes to certain types of intangible assets. Blurred financial reality can lead to irrational decisions, stagnation in business and major financial crashes, which is often the practice of large companies listed on the world stock market due to the overestimation / undervaluation of their book value. The aim of this paper is to explain the treatment of intangible assets through international accounting standards concerning the identification, recognition and measurement of intellectual resources and intangible assets, to analyze their limitations and to point out possible directions for their further development in order to provide reliable and credible reporting on assets and capital of economic entities.

In the present paper, a method is presented based on the exploitation of the computational relationships among design entities in order to obtain valuable design knowledge concerning the performance and the function of the designed object (artifact, product, machine, etc.). The approach is applicable for most of the design problems and may be used in the design cases where the design problem under consideration can be formally decomposed and expressed in terms of design entities and associative relationships among them. The design knowledge is represented through different hierarchical tree types corresponding to the physical, computational and performance domains. The representation of the design knowledge in terms of computational relationships instead of terms of functional relationships is more convenient and flexible. Design modeling becomes simpler and more direct by assigning values to generic performance variables instead of defining and quantifying functional requirements, the design analysis resolution is adjustable and both the establishment and the categorization of computational operators into classes of sensitivity provide the ability of efficiently surveying and manipulating the relationships in case of value variations. The proposed method is applied to an example case of a conveyor’s design. Some remarks and a reference to future work conclude the paper.

Introduction: The foramen venosum (FV) is located in the larger wing of the sphenoid bone and allows the passage of emissary veins that help to balance the intra and extracranial pressure. Knowledge of its morphology and associated structures has an important surgical value. Objective: Analyze the morphology of FV and its relation to adjacent foramina in Northeast Brazil. Methods: 117 human adult skulls of Federal University of Paraíba were classified by gender, FV type and laterality, being evaluated the diameter of FV, foramen ovale (FO) and foramen spinosum (FS), as well as the distance of FO and FS to FV (DFVFO and DFVFS). Values of p≤0.05 were considered significant. Results: 52 (44.4%) skulls (65 sides, 29 on the right and 36 on the left) presented FV, being 63.46% females and 36.53% males. 33.3% of FV were unilateral and 11.1% were bilateral. The FV were mostly oval (50.7%) and round (49.3%) types. Mean diameter of FV was 3.56±0.7mm, FO 7.88±1.16mm, FS 4.01±0.39mm, DFVFO 8.18±1.09mm and DFVFS was 14.54±1.68mm. Only FO (p=0.009) and FS (p=0.001) had significant differences between genres, and DFVFO had among sides (p=0.021). Conclusions: FV has a high incidence in Northeast Brazil, predominantly in females on the left side with oval and round types. Its relation with other foramina showed differences among genres and sides. This shows the relevance of the FV study to minimize the risk of iatrogenic injury during surgical interventions in this region.

The work is a development of the research conducted by the authors in the field of creating a Common Digital Space of Scientific Knowledge (CDSSK). The CDSSK is a digital information structure aggregating heterogeneous polythematic information related to scientific knowledge and including a set of subspaces related to various thematic scientific areas. The sources of the CDSSK content are existing information systems, such as the Great Russian Encyclopedia, the Unified Catalog of Geographical Names, the National Electronic Library, etc. A distinctive features of the CDSSK are (a) data support in a structure that complies with the rules of the semantic WEB, and (b) the ability to process a wide range of polythematic queries and provide the ability to navigate through heterogeneous resources using semantic links between them. The real design of the CDSSK should begin with the formation of the ontology of space as a whole and its individual subspaces. In this paper, a hierarchical structuring of the CDSSK ontology is proposed. Such elements as "subspace", "class of objects", "object", "attributes of an object", three types of relations of objects and attributes (universal, quasi-universal and specific) are distinguished and defined. the concepts "reference books" and "dictionaries" of the CDSSK are introduced. Reference books contain information about attributes and their relationships and are used in the processes of content formation and implementation of search and navigation logic; dictionaries contain specific values of attributes and relationships. The formalization of these elements representations is proposed, which makes it quite simple to add, as necessary, new attributes and relationships between objects.

This Open File presents national-scale mapping of ground ice conditions in Canada. The mapping depicts a first-order estimate of the combined volumetric percentage of excess ice in the top 5 m of permafrost from segregated, wedge, and relict ice. The estimates for the three ice types are based on modelling by O'Neill et al. (2019) (https://doi.org/10.5194/tc-13-753-2019), and informed by available published values of ground ice content and expert knowledge. The mapping offers an improved depiction of ground ice in Canada at a broad scale, incorporating current knowledge on the associations between geological and environmental conditions and ground ice type and abundance. It provides a foundation for hypothesis testing related to broad-scale controls on ground ice formation, preservation, and melt. Additional compilation of quantitative field data on ground ice and improvements to national-scale surficial geology mapping will allow further assessment and refinement of the representation of ground ice in Canada. Continued research will focus on improving the lateral and vertical representation of ground ice required for incorporation into Earth system models and decision-making. Modern types of internal threats and methods of counteracting these threats are analyzed. It is established that increasing the competence of the staff of the institution through training (education) is the most effective method of counteracting internal threats to information. A method for assessing the influence of personnel competence on institutional information security is proposed. This method takes into account violator models and information threat models that are designed for a specific institution. The method proposes to assess the competence of the staff of the institution by three components: the level of knowledge, skills, and character traits (personal qualities). It is proposed to assess the level of knowledge based on the results of test tasks of different levels of complexity. Not only the number of correct answers is taken into account, but also the complexity of test tasks. It is proposed to assess the assessment of the level of skills as the ratio of the number of correctly performed practical tasks to the total number of practical tasks. It is assumed that the number of practical tasks, their complexity is determined for each institution by the direction of activity. It is proposed to use a list of character traits for each position to assess the character traits (personal qualities) that a person must have to effectively perform the tasks assigned to him. This list should be developed in each institution. It is proposed to establish a quantitative assessment of the state of information security, defining it as restoring the amount of probability of occurrence of a threat from the relevant employee to the product of the general threat and employees of the institution. An experiment was conducted, the results of which form a particular institution show different values of the level of information security of the institution for different values of the competence of the staff of the institution. It is shown that with the increase of the level of competence of the staff of the institution the state of information security in the institution increases.

North-eastern Neo-Aramaic (also known as NENA) languages and literature are a prosperous and encouraging field of research. They abound with oral traditions and expressions that incorporate various spoken forms including everyday language, tales, songs, chants, prayers, proverbs, and more. These are used to transfer culture, knowledge, and community values. Some types of oral forms are idioms and fixed expressions. Idioms are extremely problematic to translate for a number of reasons, including: cultural and linguistic differences between languages; their specific connection to cultural practices and interpretations, and the difficulty of transferring the same meanings and connotations into another language with accuracy. This paper explores how to define and classify idioms, and suggests specific strategies and procedures to translate idioms from the NENA dialect Bartella (a local Aramaic dialect in Nineveh Plain) into English – as proposed by Baker (1992: 63–78). Data collection is based on 15 idioms in Bartella dialect taken from the heritage play Khlola d baretle teqta (Wedding in the old Bartella). The findings revealed that only three strategies are helpful to transfer particular cultural conceptualisations: using an idiom of similar meaning and form; using an idiom of similar meaning but different form, and translation by paraphrasing. Based on the findings, the author provides individuals and institutions with suggestions on how to save endangered languages and dialects, particularly with regard to the religious minorities’ heritage. Key among these recommendations is encouraging researchers and scholars to direct translation projects and activities towards preserving minority languages with their oral heritage and cultural expressions, which are susceptible to extinction.

Pavement performance is a complex issue which depends on many contributing factors. Examining the performance of real-life pavements across the state determines what the actual service lives are for the pavements. For the purposes of this study, only selected LTPP projects were examined, along with a database containing all the historic repair projects completed in Indiana. Pertinent information present in the Indiana Historic Contracts Database was extracted concerning the types of pavement repair and treatments options commonly employed within the state, the time between repairs, etc. These data were used to determine descriptive statistical parameters and was summarized in graph form. Similarly, data about selected LTPP GPS and SPS sites were downloaded from the online website, LTPP InfoPave and a comparative study between companion sites was performed. These data included study site and pavement-related information, such as construction dates, pavement structure details, maintenance and repair history, and pavement distress surveys. These data were used to draw conclusions about the impact of treatment applications, climatic and geologic factors, traffic volume, and pavement structures on pavement performance. Gaps in knowledge about pavement failure modes, distress data, and effectiveness of treatment applications mentioned in the contracts database file hampered efforts to form a complete picture of the effectiveness of treatment options and their timely (or untimely) application. Similarly, details about pavement mixture design and differentiating factors between companion sites prevented researchers from narrowing down the causes leading to the observed pavement distress.

The wicked sustainability challenges of current socio-technical systems, crossing the planetary boundaries vital for human life, call for fundamental and radical change in the form of transitions. These sustainability transitions require a knowledge basis of relevant actors in the system, which intermediary structures organizing knowledge transfer can support. Over the last decades, sustainability researchers have not only increasingly studied the dynamics of transitions (Rip and Kemp 1998; Geels 2002; Papachristos et al. 2013), but have also gained insights on activities contributing to the acceleration of transitions and the sup-portive role of intermediaries in that regard (Wieczorek and Hekkert 2012; Kanda et al. 2018; Kivimaa et al. 2019). This paper revisits the literature on the dynamics of transitions, the activities of intermediaries in contributing in order to formulate implications of the characteristics of sustainable development and sustainability transitions and the related knowledge types for the organization of knowledge transfer by regional intermediaries.

In the current context, e-commerce has improved significantly as consumers have increased online shopping in different sectors of the economy. Therefore, the term “e-commerce” is becoming increasingly well-known and relevant for conducting business transactions. In addition, the current context of the COVID-19 pandemic has contributed to the extreme growth of e-commerce, and in the long term it will be a vital part of companies to achieve a greater competitive advantage as it offers benefits to the end consumer. However, it is important to note that there will be technological and non-technological limitations that will affect its growth. Nevertheless, the advance of information and communication technologies (ICTS) will tend to correct these limitations, consolidating the generalized increase of e-commerce worldwide. Consequently, it is pertinent that students of economics, administrative and accounting sciences, engineering, among others, expand their knowledge in e-commerce and thus be at the forefront of the different issues surrounding the digital transformation in companies and the digital economy.

How can a socially defined project facilitate meaningful knowledge transfer between community, corporate and institution? In order to address this question, this paper focuses on an ongoing live project in suburban Auckland New Zealand begun in 2010, undertaken by a post-graduate student and researcher collective. The collective currently creates subtle interventions sited within local cyberspace, and through this current project will employ impermanent and small-scale design to advocate for a series of neglected and disputed sites. It explores the impact and value the presence of artists and designers working within local communities can have, and “champions the role of the artist in the development of the public realm, and their intuitive response to spaces, places, people and wildlife” (Wood 2009, p.26). The significance of this project is that it promotes a collaborative and multidisciplinary methodology that works with community groups to advocate to corporate entities for a wider social and environmental awareness of specific sites. This paper aims to explain the processes and findings of the project to date through both its successes and failures. It also proposes the possibility of the methodology being transferred to undergraduate and post-graduate study as a tool to promote multi-disciplined collaborate project briefs that focus on community well being.
