Financial specialists in investment banks are professional group with high importance for economy, however managerial knowledge of their specific is far from being wide. Based on recently published text the article presents discussions about values systems of three different knowledge workers groups: physicists (medical doctors), IT workers and financial specialists working for investments bank on financial expert position. Based on qualitative research (in-depth interviews) with Polish financial expert their differences towards City colleges and two others knowledge workers are described. Discussion of differences among the four groups are conducted and some managerial recommendation formulated, as well as future research agenda.

<p>Values and differences in corporate governance across the world are part and partially related and it is obvious that owners know what results they want to have from the corporations in the long run. In this regard, some scientific studies have revealed that owners would be succeed in a dynamic environment only if they formulate ownership strategy based on values. Consequently, to understand corporate governance better, some research has been carried out on corporate governance by relating values towards the area of knowledge but there is a scarcity of research which proposing comprehensive and explains corporate governance systems consisting values. Therefore, authors of this paper identified the following research problem which is: “Lacking of theory behind corporate governance systems including values which gives an opportunity towards the owners under different corporate governance systems to analyse its own behaviour, learning, managing knowledge, and finally clearly expressing ownership will in the form of an ownership strategy.” There were two data set was analysed in this study. One is Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) company law and corporate governance database based on member countries submission and the second set of data is Schwartz’s value survey to characterise multiple countries by their culture. Methodologically, after using multi quantitative tools this study is valuable to analyse all the secondary data to produce new knowledge, adopting different theoretical lens, by analysing and understanding the interrelationships of values and different systems of corporate governance across the world. The result of the study comes with a typology including values based three ideal types (Affective type, Cognitive type and Conative type) of corporate governance systems, with a practical contribution towards enriching the available knowledge for owners to formulate ownership strategy. Considering future direction, the constructed typology is required for assessment of the capability of refutation aside from OECD countries.<strong></strong></p>

PurposeThe purpose of this paper was to examine knowledge hiding behaviours with perceived conflict types, competition and personal values of employees.Design/methodology/approachTwo studies were carried out and structural equation modelling and moderated regression analyses were conducted to test the hypotheses.FindingsStudy I, with employees from software development companies, revealed that task conflict and relationship conflict have additive effect on knowledge hiding behaviour. Additionally, task conflict is positively related to employees’ perceived competition. However, no mediation role of perceived competition was found between conflict types and knowledge hiding. Study II, with employees from the banking sector, indicated that employees’ individualistic or collectivistic values play a moderating role between perceived task conflict and knowledge hiding behaviours. The negative effect of task conflict on knowledge hiding behaviour is higher if the individuals have individualistic personal values.Practical implicationsThis study contributes to managers by offering some guidance on what can be the results of conflict and competition between employees and how employees’ personal values can affect conflict and knowledge hiding relation.Originality/valueTo the challenges of knowledge hiding behaviour outcomes for businesses, many managers should first consider the predictors of knowledge hiding and then find some solutions against the negative consequences. This study is one of the first to examine knowledge hiding with regard to conflict types, perceived competition between employees and personal values of employees.

The present study contributes to innovation research by distinguishing between national innovation in the knowledge and technology domain (knowledge and technology output) versus that in the creative industries (creative output), and examining how these two types of innovation would benefit from high-quality basic education in different cultural contexts. We argue that because creative output requires symbolic knowledge (i.e., negotiation of new meanings), it would benefit from a national context that has not only high-quality basic education but also favorable cultural values (low self-protective values or high self-expansion values). By contrast, knowledge and technology output requires analytic and synthetic knowledge mainly and thus would benefit from high-quality basic education regardless of cultural values. To test these ideas, we performed regression analyses using three archival datasets (the Programme for International Student Assessment [PISA], the Schwartz Value Survey, and the Global Innovation Index) of 32 nations. The results in general supported our predictions such that a high level of self-protective values dampens the positive relationship between quality of basic education and creative output only, but not knowledge and technology output. Implications of these findings were discussed.

AbstractWhat is the relation between the intentionality of states and attitudes which can miss their mark, such as belief and desire, and the intentionality of acts, states and attitudes which cannot miss their mark, such as the different types of knowledge and simple seeing? Two theories of the first type of intentionality, the theory of correctness conditions and the theory of satisfaction conditions, are compared. It is argued that knowledge always involves knowledge of formal objects such as facts and values, that emotions are reactions to (apparently) known values and that beliefs are reactions to known or apparently known facts or to the objects of relational states.

The goal of the following article is to show that the system of values (ideals and worldview attitudes) affects the nature and results of scientific work of a researcher. It is showed, that socio-cultural and historical conditionality of scientific knowledge is implemented not only by the impact of social institutions, investment policy and state support for science, but also through the system of value orientations of scientists themselves. It was analyzed the axiological views in the application of scientific knowledge to such prominent outstanding thinkers such as I. Kant, H. Rickert, M. Weber, W. Dilthey. We prove that an approach which recognizes that the values in science express socio-cultural conditioning of science, and becomes the determining factor in philosophy of social and humanitarian knowledge. Purpose Environmental behavior studies suggest that knowledge, in addition to other psychological and social factors, can play an important role in consumers’ environmental behavior change. The purpose of this paper is to understand the relationship between knowledge and various psychological factors which encourage consumers’ participation in pro-environmental behaviors. The relationships that link an individual’s attitudes toward science, environmental values, different types of knowledge (i.e. scientific facts, environmental facts, and subjective environmental knowledge), environmental risk perception, and willingness to pay (WTP) for the environment with pro-environmental behavior were examined. Design/methodology/approach Theoretically guided hypotheses and model were formulated and tested with multiple linear regression models. The study was based on measures and data obtained from the large-sample secondary database of the 2010 General Social Survey (n=2,044). Findings Results indicated that while attitudes toward science had direct effects on knowledge of scientific facts and knowledge of environmental facts, environmental values showed effects on knowledge of environmental facts and subjective knowledge on environmental issues. The results also indicated that from different types of knowledge, subjective knowledge on environmental issues had effects on both environmental risk perception and WTP for the environment. Knowledge on environmental facts, on the other hand, was able to predict only environmental risk perception. The scientific factual knowledge did not show an effect on mediator of pro-environmental behavior. Also, subjective knowledge indicated indirect effects on pro-environmental behavior through environmental risk perception and WTP for the environment. Originality/value Although research on understanding factors influencing pro-environmental behaviors and potential relations to individual knowledge has grown in recent years, there has been very little attempt at distinguishing between different types of knowledge and investigating their potential roles in the context of environmentally relevant behaviors. This study will help understand the functioning of different types of consumer environmental knowledge and their impacts on pro-environmental behaviors more in depth.

The purpose of the discussions and research undertaken was to bring the generation problem closer values (and the attempt to identify their types) for the stakeholders resulting from the use of a corporate blog. It was necessary to conduct detailed literature research and analysis of available research referring to corporate blogs. Also, the author’s own quality research was prepared and carried out. Its basic method was a case study made for the blog of Orange brand. The author starts with a definition of corporate blog, indicates its types and strategy of its methodical running. Next, market determinants and trends are presented as well as their influence on the efficiency of analysed object management. Special attention is focused on the process of generating values via corporate blog. The The case study of Orange brand blog has provided a number of important information about how to effectively run a business blog, which can be a valuable source of information for other marketers doing blogging. The results of the considerations and research may be relevant for scientists interested in developing knowledge in the area of managing values generated by corporate blogs.

The purpose of this study is to examine the relationships between knowledge management dimensions and organizational culture types in higher education libraries in Qatar using the competing values framework. A descriptive, quantitative research design was employed to determine the correlation between the variables. Two research instruments are used in this study: (1) Organizational Culture Assessment Instrument and (2) Knowledge Management Assessment Instrument. The results of the study revealed that, while the culture types clan and market predicted the knowledge management dimensions of creation, capture, organization, storage and application, the culture types adhocracy and hierarchy predicted the knowledge management dimensions of storage and dissemination.

This article analyses the content of three types of institutional statements (mission, vision and values) published on Spanish university libraries’ websites. The aim is to determine whether they express explicit support for knowledge management and innovation in the university. The analysis revealed that 75% of the population (n = 76) published at least one such statement. The most widely published of the three types was the mission statement, 37 of which contained the terms ‘knowledge’ or ‘innovation’, particularly the former, present in 33. The vision statements of 17 libraries alluded to both, in practically the same proportion. ‘Innovation’ appeared in 20 of 28 libraries with statements of values, denoting the high esteem in which that conceit is held by university librarians. These statements stand as proof that libraries regard innovation and some stage of knowledge management as primary aims, with the furtherance of knowledge creation/generation the one most frequently cited.

Soil information covering regional, continental, or even global scales is needed for modelling, prediction, or estimation of environmental risks, crop yield estimation, carbon stock estimation, or research on climate change. This study aims to evaluate the extent to which geographic object-based image analysis and expert-knowledge, using digital maps of climate, topography, vegetation, and geology as soil covariates (GEOBIA approach), might model and reproduce a conventional soil map at a scale 1:1000000 in the south-west of Romania. The environmental variables were segmented with a region-growing algorithm, the resulting objects being subsequently classified into soil types using expert-knowledge fuzzy classification rules. To assess the geographical support of classification for the modelling of a conventional soil map, we quantitatively evaluated a pixel-based soil map produced using the same expert-knowledge classification rules, as an alternative to an object-based approach. To evaluate the source of soil information, we quantitatively assessed the map of the World Reference Base soil groups produced by the data-driven global soil information system, SoilGrids, as an alternative to expert-knowledge rules. The digital soil maps were quantitatively compared with the conventional soil map. Evidence was provided that the similarity of soil types with the conventional soil map was higher when the modelling was conducted through GEOBIA approach (general similarity of 65% and fuzzy kappa index of 0.58) than the pixel-based approach and SoilGrids. Furthermore, the results showed that the SoilGrids map achieved higher similarity to conventional soil map than the pixel-based soil map. When tested in another area, without modification to the knowledge-based methodologies, the same conclusions could be drawn, although the two maps recorded lower similarity values. The overall reduction in similarity values is explained by a high variability of some soil types under different environmental conditions.

The paper reveals the characteristics of competing approaches — Pigouvian and Coasian — to identify the grounds for state regulation. We outline the connections between Pigouvian and Coasian approaches with the values and prospects for their advancement in the field of political decision-making in the context of demand for economic knowledge and the possibilities of organizing compensating transactions. These connections are considered in the light of the externalities problem as one of the manifestations of market failure, as well as different internalization options. We also clarify the provisions from the theory of externalities in terms of their definition, classification and correlation with the conditions for optimal allocation of resources. The key types of structural alternatives for correcting market flaws are considered, and the main properties of the Pigouvian and Coasian approaches in economics, as they relate to the problem of market and government flaws, are determined. This helps explain why the Coasian approach cannot be considered synonymous with liberal fundamentalism. Finally, we indicate the relationship between normative conclusions and prospects of functionalism and two types of fundamentalism in the field of political decision-making. Using the example of intertemporal externalities, the difference in the approaches of Coasianism and Pigouvianism to their internalization is demonstrated.

The article is devoted to the problem of the influence of the specifics of fundamental values on the type of interpersonal dependence in friendly relations. The author shows the actualised need to consider behavioural dependences on the example of interpersonal dependence due to the lack of scientific knowledge in this area. The specificity of interrelationships between the aspects of four fundamental motivations and normative and non-normative types of interpersonal dependence is revealed. The author considers aspects of fundamental motivations as predictors of the types of interpersonal dependence, namely, destructive overdependence and healthy dependence. In conclusion, the author concludes that some aspects of fundamental values have a specific impact on the formation of interpersonal dependence in close friendships. The data obtained can contribute to the development of practical methods for the prevention of abnormal types of interpersonal dependence.

This article presents a comparative analysis of pupils’ activities dealing with the Cold War in Swedish and Australian history textbooks. By focusing on textbook activities to which pupils respond in relation to their learning of a particular topic, this study identifies knowledge types included in a selection of history textbooks. The study also focuses on the question whether, and if so how, social values are evident in activities concerning the Cold War. The authors develop a matrix that makes it possible to examine knowledge types and social values conveyed by activities. By analyzing textbook activities, this article exposes the hidden curriculum present in the textbooks on the basis of underlying and unstated values present in the activities, and at the same time identifies the way in which the selected textbooks incorporate these values.

Moral values constitute abstract concepts, and for students with intellectual disabilities, learning moral values requires methods appropriate for their conditions and social norms. This study was carried out in order to describe the different types and strategies for teaching moral values to students with intellectual disabilities. Questionnaires were used and responses were cross-checked through focus group conversations with teachers who have exemplified best practices. The quantitative descriptive analysis was conducted by categorising the data according to the students' grade levels. The findings indicate that teachers teach moral values using a range of strategies, including the conventional stage emphasising interpersonal harmony orientation and authoritative and societal orientation, and learning contents relevant to local norms. Teachers typically employ this strategy through real-world activities, practice and repetition. In conclusion, the types and strategies for teaching moral values to students with intellectual disabilities are typified by concrete knowledge and adjustments are made according to the students’ environment. AbstractAlthough, the knowledge management (KM)-culture research has helped to validate the importance of cultural values for companies' KM initiatives and provided insights into some important values, it still lacks frameworks and analysis outlining how specific types of cultural values might relate to Knowledge Management system (KMS) adoption and subsequent outcomes. In this paper, we provide a three-dimensional framework to help managers articulate how culture affects their unit's ability to create, transfer, and apply knowledge through KMS use. To illustrate the application of the framework, we also present an exploratory case study we have performed in an international organization in the area of development assistance and capacity development.

The development of designing building structures exposed to fire is solved not only on the basis of data obtained by standardized tabular values from the fire tests, but also by calculations or their combination with standard values. Calculation methods are becoming more important for most types of building structures, especially for timber and steel building structures. One possibility how to define thermal load of building structures, which is usable especially immediately after the development of a fire, is local fire method. This paper summarizes the principles of calculation while using local fire, it evaluates its positive and negative characteristics, and especially its practical applicability.

By all accounts, virtue epistemology is making a value turn in contemporary analytic epistemology. In this article, this twist is explicated through the transformation of the understanding of epistemic values and the value of the epistemic. In the first sense, we are talking about how the view has changed on what determines the epistemic value of such categories as truth, knowledge, understanding, etc. In the second sense, we are talking about the value of our epistemic concepts (the value of the epistemic): what is true belief, knowledge, etc. for? It is shown how the causal link between our beliefs and intellectual virtues allows us to explain the nature and value of knowledge as a central category of epistemology. The author reveals the difference between the main types of virtue epistemology through the prism of two different approaches to the justification of values: value internalism and value externalism. Value externalism assumes that a state/motive/action gains value from something outside of a person's consciousness. In contrast, value internalism holds that the conditions that determine value are internal to consciousness. For reliabilism, the value of cognitive success lies in its causal connection with the reliable competences of the subject, for responsibilism – with virtuous motives of cognitive activity. Common to reliabilism and responsibilism is that they shift the focus from the value of an effect (truth) to its relationship with the value of a cause – an ability or excellent trait of intellectual character. The main approaches to substantiating the fundamental value of knowledge in virtue epistemology are analyzed. If for reliabilism the highest epistemic value is truth as cognitive achievement, then for responsibilism the value of epistemic categories is primarily in their moral significance – the achievement of a good life and happiness (eudaimonia). In conclusion, the problematic aspects of virtue epistemology are formulated and promising directions for its further development are shown.

In this paper, we consider decision trees that use two types of queries: queries based on one attribute each and queries based on hypotheses about values of all attributes. Such decision trees are similar to the ones studied in exact learning, where membership and equivalence queries are allowed. We present dynamic programming algorithms for minimization of the depth and number of nodes of above decision trees and discuss results of computer experiments on various data sets and randomly generated Boolean functions. Decision trees with hypotheses generally have less complexity, i.e., they are more understandable and more suitable as a means for knowledge representation.

A saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ksat) is the utmost vital soil hydraulic parameter for flow with in the soil. The knowledge of it is vigorous for water resources applications. Numerous methods & models (field, laboratory and empirical formulae) are available for determination of it. However, all of them have their applications and limitations. But, most investigators prefer the usage of empirical formulae to direct measurements of Ksat (field / lab) as direct measurements are very challenging (sometimes impractical), necessitating testing, quantification, and decision; making it extremely difficult to use in hydrologic modeling. Thus, it is vital to effectively asses the illustrative Ksat values matching the cost and its reliability. This study therefore presents the laboratory estimation of the Ksat for different soil textures in Jimma zone (nearby Jimma, Serbo, GilgelGibe and Asendabo towns) in Ethiopia, by both constant head and falling head methods, which are the simplest and cost effective ones. In these procedures, we determined the Ksat values of the soil in the study region. The results indicated that its average values are (1) in between 0.00124 and 0.00173cm/s for sandy-loam soil, and (2) 0.000124cm/s for clay soil. The porosity of soil samples were also calculated and found out to be in the range of 41.25 % and 44.24 % (the average being 43.04%) for sandyloam soil and 43.54% for clay soil. We then compared the results with the corresponding values in the literature, and finally we concluded that the Ksat and porosity values obtained for the study region were found to be in a good agreement with the corresponding literature values.

An article presents the empirical study on the peculiarities of selfactualization of civil servants with different types of work motivation. The two groups of respondents (civil servants and non-governmental workers) were compared. “Professional”, “instrumental” and “patriotic” types of work motivation were more pronounced among non-governmental employees. Civil servants-respondents were less interested in work content, they were more likely to take an uninteresting job; their motives for self-improvement were less pronounced, and therefore, they were not so interested in difficult tasks, regarded by the respondents of the other group as a professional challenge and a way for self-expression. Professional recognition was not so important for civil servants as social recognition; they were less likely to think about fair remuneration for their labor. They did not so much need “the idea” as a driving force for work, as well as recognition by others of their indispensability in organizations where they worked. At the same time, a higher percentage of civil servants (in comparison with the other group) did not seek to improve their skills and were characterized by reduced professional activity, responsibility, desire to share their skills and achievements with others. It was more difficult for civil servants (compared to non-governmental workers) to live in the present, not to postpone life “for later”; they felt more insecure, were “up in the clouds”; such self-actualizing values as goodness, beauty, integrity, truth, uniqueness, psychological hardiness, justice, achievement, order, self-sufficiency, etc., although demonstrated quite closely by both groups, were still less pronounced among civil servants. The need for knowledge was also much less expressed by civil servants, as well as autonomy, independence, a sense of freedom. Civil servants were inclined to focus on other worker’s opinions and external social standards; it was more difficult for them to establish strong and friendly relationswith others; they were more anxious and insecure comparing to nongovernmental workers. Civil servants with instrumental work motivation had neither a general benevolent attitude towards people, nor the values of self-actualization in general. In contrast, civil servants with professional work motivation not only shared such values, but also valued life “here and now”, strived for knowledge and creativity in professional work. Patriotic and lumpenized types of work motivation were expressed by civil servants indirectly. At the same time, employees with the patriotic type had very similar tendencies to self-actualization as employees with the professional type: they tended to live today, appreciated a current moment, strived for harmonious relationships with others, felt natural sympathy, trust in people, sought for new knowledge. The main features of this type, according to the respondents, were increased anxiety, self-doubt, neuroticism. All identified correlations between self-actualization indicators and lumpenized work motivation were negative for civil servants. Economic work motivation was the rarest for civil servants, respectively, the corresponding selfactualization tendencies included only a friendly and impartial attitude towards other people.

Currently installed wastewater treatment systems in many developing countries are unsustainable, failing in either the social, economic or ecological dimension of sustainability. Nexus research looking at resources involved in wastewater treatment could support the transition towards more sustainable systems. Nexus thinking aims to overcome bio-physical systems thinking by including transdisciplinary research methods. Approaches for integrating results from different types of analysis and disciplinary backgrounds are scarce and have not been described extensively in nexus research. Transdisciplinary research suggests creating system, target and transformation knowledge as a common framework to describe meaningful transformations. Our goal is to show how a better understanding of the level of knowledge created by different types of analysis can pave the way towards integrating results for sustainability. In this article, three types of analysis, namely sustainability assessment, stakeholder perspective analysis and wickedness analysis, were applied in two pilot case wastewater treatment systems in Latin America. Through a three-step process, generated knowledge was assessed for each type of analysis individually while also highlighting synergies between them. The results demonstrate that structuring results by generated knowledge type can help combining outcomes in a meaningful manner. The findings show that technical flaws are present and fixable, and that issues relating to behaviours or values are more challenging to address but arguably more meaningful for systemic change.

The geoeducation and geotourism potential capabilities were quantitatively estimated in nine quarries locations in eastern Missan, SE Iraq. A quantitative approach is used to compute the scientific, educational, functional, and touristic categorises values for each quarry. categorised values were weighted for three types of audiences: university students, school pupils, and tourists then, the previous geoscientific studies about quarries areas were searches of different geoscience branches and registered. The results show that geoeducation values are greater than geotourism ones in all quarry sites. All quarries show high weight for the education values while the geotourism values are affected by functional infrastructure in each site. The diversity of scientific values of each site are also studied where the petroleum and hydrological activities increased the geoeducation weight of the specific site and supplied more geological knowledge.

Conceptual graphs and fuzzy logic are two logical formalisms that emphasize the target of natural language, where conceptual graphs provide a structure of formulas close to that of natural language sentences while fuzzy logic provides a methodology for computing with words. This paper proposes fuzzy conceptual graphs as a knowledge representation language that combines the advantages of both the two formalisms for artificial intelligence approaching human expression and reasoning. Firstly, the conceptual graph language is extended with functional relation types for representing functional dependency, and conjunctive types for joining concepts and relations. Then fuzzy conceptual graphs are formulated as a generalization of conceptual graphs where fuzzy types and fuzzy attribute-values are used in place of crisp types and crisp attribute-values. Projection and join as basic operations for reasoning on fuzzy conceptual graphs are defined, taking into account the semantics of fuzzy set-based values.

Based on the available information in many cases it can happen that two objects cannot be distinguished. If a set of data is given and in this settwo objects have the same attribute values, then these two objects are called indiscernible. This indiscernibility has an effect on the membership relation,because in some cases it makes our judgment uncertain about a given object. The uncertainty appears because if something about an object is needed to bestated, then all the objects that are indiscernible from the given object must be taken into consideration. The indiscernibility relation is an equivalencerelation which represents background knowledge embedded in an information system. In a Pawlakian system this relation is used in set approximation.Correlation clustering is a clustering technique which generates a partition. In the authors’ previous research the possible usage of the correlation clusteringin rough set theory was investigated. In this paper the authors show how different types of search algorithms affect the set approximation.

Objective. To identify the role of values in commitment to various types of social activity.Background. The social activity of young people is the driver of the development of society. It contains very different initiatives – ranging from civil, political and economic to subcultural and radical protest. The most important task is to study the value factors of a person’s commitment to various forms of activity. Such scientific knowledge will allow us to establish the features of the value regulation of activity.Study design. The relationship between values and commitment to various forms of social activity. The presence and peculiarities of the relationship were recorded through correlation and regression analyses.Participants. 500 residents of Russia (average age M=21,6; 35,5% men, 64,5% women).Measurements. A questionnaire was applied, including 18 scale questions, meaningfully describing the forms of social activity (Shamionov R.M., &amp; et al. ), followed by factorization of the data obtained, on the basis of which “new” variables of civil, protest, Internet-network and leisure activity were derived; “Portrait value questionnaire” Sh. Schwartz (PVQ-R2) with fixation of 19 basic values.Results. Various forms of social activity of young people form 4 enlarged groups (types) based on factor analysis: civil, protest, leisure and Internet network. The commitment of young people to leisure and Internet network activity is most pronounced. The interrelationships of types of activity and values cover all sectors of the circular motivational continuum of values. Schwartz. Values explain from 22% to 8% of the variance of different types of social activity.Conclusions. The most important prognostic values are the values of traditions and care for nature with low expression of the value of public safety (civic activity); universalism-care, power with low expression of the values of public safety and benevolence-care (protest activity); the value of stimulation, tradition and benevolence-care (leisure); values of independence-actions, power-resources with low expression of traditions (Internet-network).

New public participatory modes of practice are emerging in fields as diverse as politics, healthcare and research. In part, these DIY and citizen-led initiatives have gained momentum from the optimism of new technologies, which allow unprecedented access to previously inaccessible knowledge and tools. Equally, they are the result of a growing frustration with power hierarchies and systems that reinforce elites. Experts are increasingly regarded with suspicion as trust in public institutions is eroded and individuals begin to give more weight to personal accounts, and information shared within networks of peers. In this climate there is a critical need for improved knowledge transfer practices based on improved empathy, understanding and communication of shared values and motivations. In this session we questioned the role of expertise in a changing landscape of knowledge production and practice. Using the lens of science & technology communication and hands-on DIY practices, we explored how to move towards a more inclusive model of knowledge transfer, where different types of expertise are acknowledged and valued.

In conceptual design of mechanical system, selecting an appropriate mechanical drive type that meets design requirements is a critical problem. To tackle it, a novel classification decision approach to drive type selection is presented, which employs LVQ neural network as classifier to recognize a satisfactory drive from a range of drive types. This recognition process includes five stages: (1) capturing linguistic expression values of character factor for typical drives; (2) digitizing linguistic expression values and extracting features of drives; (3) constructing the structure of a LVQ neural network; (4) training this network with the feature data of character factor set; (5) identifying an appropriate drive type according to the input data using the trained neural network. This proposed approach capitalizes on the benefits of LVQ neural network to acquire domain knowledge and implement classification and decision. Hence at some extent the process of conceptual design can be simplified and the rationality of the decision can be greatly improved.

Affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy consumption is a crucial goal of the Agenda 2030. To raise each citizen’s awareness for more effective energy consumptions, proper education is necessary. The classroom project GAIA (Green Awareness in Action) was designed to change energy consumption patterns to pursue green behaviour. The class-wise aim was to improve schools’ CO2-balance and to promote environmentally sustainable behaviour without impacting school life quality. Our target group were sixth graders (N = 132, M = 11.03, SD ± 0.23, 53.4% = girls) of one Greek school. To monitor the project’s effect, a pre- and post-test design was applied to measure environmental literacy regarding environmental knowledge, attitudes/values and behaviour. A regression analysis revealed that students with poor previous knowledge reached higher learning effects compared to those with good previous knowledge. Related to the environmental knowledge types, an ANCOVA analysis revealed a knowledge gain in action-related and effectiveness knowledge. The overall learning effect correlates positively with pro-environmental preference (high scores in preservation, low scores in utilisation) and negatively with weak pro-environmental preferences. Anthropocentric (utilitarian) preferences primarily focussing on nature exploitation have considerably decreased. The project illustrates how far individual behaviour can be targeted in green educational initiatives.

The article discusses the issues arising in the investigation of criminal offenses on the example of illegal search work at an archaeological heritage site, destruction, destruction or damage to cultural heritage sites. Conducting certain types of examinations is disclosed as the activity of experts who possess knowledge of certain branches of science. The issues of carrying out a comprehensive forensic technical examination of documents and art criticism are highlighted. The main methods used by experts of the above types of expertise have been determined. It was emphasized that the most promising and expedient procedure for carrying out a comprehensive examination of music literature is to first conduct a technical examination of documents, which will allow restoring the lost fragments of both the material and the text of a musical work, taking into account the methods that will then be used by an art expert. Activities for pre-trial investigation of crimes that encroach on cultural heritage, cultural values, where the objects of examination are music literature, in particular, is a complex multifaceted and multifaceted process to perform the tasks of criminal justice. The specific nature of the investigation of these criminal offenses makes the issue of organizing examinations quite relevant. The multifaceted investigation of these offenses is reflected in its organization, in particular through the use of special art knowledge in procedural and non-procedural forms. The practical purpose of the organization is to determine the optimal direction and content of the investigation, optimize its purpose, forces and means necessary to achieve it, the correct placement of forces and the creation of appropriate conditions. The growing needs of modern society in the use of knowledge in the field of art history does not bypass the field of justice. Understanding the importance of special knowledge for establishing factual data gives grounds to consider forensic science as an independent institution for the protection of the rights and legitimate interests of citizens, legal entities and the interests of the state as a whole.

The National Language is utilized because it is a language to be mastered by all the citizens of Malaysia. However there should be a diversity in the types of materials in dispersing nationhood and patriotism among the young generation. Nationhood and patriotism values should also be imparted through materials such as the comics. Materials regarding nationhood of Malaysia are also present in abundance in English. Hence the second language should also be used to inculcate nationhood and patriotism. It would contribute greater to the knowledge in history of Malaysia. The incapability in comprehending the materials read on nationhood and patriotism would hinder the students from obtaining knowledge and values of nationhood. The study focused on enhancing reading comprehension among the secondary school students in the notion of enabling them to read and understand nationhood reading materials regardless of types of text and language used. I propose to elucidate this relationshipand its implications by making a fundamental distinction between self andidentity, and showing how there can be many identities but only one self. Ibegin by inquiring into the meaning of identity symbols such as “Islam” or“Muslim” prior to knowledge. For example, what is the meaning and relationshipbetween identity and knowledge in Islamization of knowledge orIslamic Philosophy? In both types of knowledge, identity is prior to knowledgein an epistemological, as well as an ontological sense.Ontologically we are suggesting that the existence of Islamic psychologyor Islamic philosophy is contingent on the being of an agency such as Islamor Muslims. Epistemologically we are arguing that Islam includes a theoryof knowledge, and Islamic principles constitute paradigmatic values fromwhich Islamic psychology or Islamic philosophy can be derived. Cleqly,the prefix Islamic gives an identity to knowledge. In other words, there arecertain truth claims which derive their legitimacy not because their truth isself-evident or rationally deducible or empirically verifiable, but becausethey satisfy certain criteria which establishes their identity as Islamic.The issue of criteria that determine what constitutes knowledge (epistemology)is indeed crucial. The first thing that needs to be resolved iswhether these criteria are universally intelligible or are functions of culturehdentityand value systems. Purpose Effective knowledge management (KM) enables the health care organisations to reach their goals. In modern health care the empowered patients are active partners, whose preferences, needs and values should be taken into account. Shared decision making (SDM) aims at involving the patient and the health professionals as equal partners in care. The purpose of this paper is to present a new model of health care information and knowledge processes (IKPs) as a KM framework. The aim is to scrutinise what types of knowing can be identified the IKPs and how do the knowledge processes support SDM. The role of patients in the IKPs is discussed. Design/methodology/approach The qualitative case study was conducted in two Finnish university hospital districts in integrated care pathways of childhood obesity. In total, 30 professionals and three mothers and children were interviewed 2009-2011 and the findings were supported with a survey (n=13) and document material. Findings The findings indicate that the patients and families involvement in the IKPs is modest. This implies that SDM is not completely fulfilled which may affect the families commitment to positive lifestyle changes. Research limitations/implications The data of the patients and families were limited due to the challenges with recruitment. Practical implications The detailed IKP model enables the health organisations to scrutinise their own IKPs and to identify the shortages in order to change practices. Originality/value This paper presents a new model of health care KM which recognises the patients as active partners.

The internalization of Pancasila is carried out from an early age. This is related to the problems in the community of the fading of the noble values of the Indonesian state's guidelines for life. The final goal of this study was to find the methods used by Teachers in instilling Pancasila values in early childhood in kindergarten. Qualitative research methods are used to achieve this goal by making kindergarten teachers as informants determined through purposive techniques and Snowball sampling. Data was collected by placing researchers as the primary "tool" supported by interviewing, observation, and documentation techniques. The netted data was analyzed with miles and Huberman's qualitative data analysis techniques. The results concluded that kindergarten teachers' level of knowledge and understanding about the types of learning methods in early childhood is quite good. Methods of planting Pancasila values used in some kindergartens in West Gunungsitoli Subdistrict include playing, telling stories, singing, conversing, demonstrations, role-playing, habituation methods, and tourism.

e15170 Background: Tumor mutational burden (TMB) is an impressive predictive biomarker for immune checkpoint inhibitors therapy, and immunotherapy is one of the most promising methods for cancer treatment. However, the profile of TMB in various types of cancers was still poorly understood. Methods: In this study, genomic profiling of DNA was performed using next generation sequencing from a 539 genes panel in tumor tissues. The TMB was defined as the numbers of SNVs including synonymous and nonsynonymous mutations, and InDels per megabase in coding regions of sequenced genome. TMB-H was defined as highest mutation load quintile (top 20%) in each cancer type. The values of TMB of 874 patients were compared among eight main tumor types including 174 patients with liver cancer, 32 patients with bile duct cancer, 54 patients with gastric cancer, 119 patients with colorectal cancer, 27 patients with pancreatic cancer, 32 patients with melanoma, 25 patients with glioma and 411 patients with lung cancer cases by multiple independent samples nonparametric Kruskal-Wallis H test via SPSS v22.0. Results: The median values of TMB in liver cancer, bile duct cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, melanoma, glioma and lung cancer were 10.29, 8.09, 11.03, 10.29, 5.88, 7.35, 5.88 and 7.35 Muts/Mb, respectively. The cut-off values of TMB-H in corresponding eight solid tumors were 16.18, 19.12, 19.85, 16.18, 10.29, 13.24, 10.29 and 18.38 Muts/Mb, respectively. Based on nonparametric Kruskal-Wallis H test, there were significant differences of median TMB values across eight independent tumor types (χ2 = 26.752, p = 3.693×10−4). Significant differences between patients with colorectal cancer and pancreatic cancer ( p = 0.005) or lung cancer ( p = 0.011) were observed via pairwise comparisons. Conclusions: Our study proved the presence of significant differences across eight cancer types, deepened the knowledge of the cancer-specific of TMB, provided useful information in immunology therapy for East Asian patients with solid tumors. As a retrospective study with a relatively small population, the conclusions of this study needed to be verified with a larger sample.

A new method is proposed to increase the reliability of generating symbolic plans by extending the Semantic-Knowledge Based (SKB) plan generation to take into account the amount of information and uncertainty related to existing objects, their types and properties, as well as their relationships with each other. This approach constructs plans by depending on probabilistic values which are derived from learning statistical relational models such as Markov Logic Networks (MLN). An MLN module is established for probabilistic learning and inference together with semantic information to provide a basis for plausible learning and reasoning services in support of robot task-planning. The MLN module is constructed by using an algorithm to transform the knowledge stored in SKB to types, predicates and formulas which represent the main building block for this module. Following this, the semantic domain knowledge is used to derive implicit expectations of world states and the effects of the action which is nominated for insertion into the task plan. The expectations are matched with MLN output.

The article considers the problem of the formation of the world outlook among junior pupils in the study of an integrated course «I Explore the World». The concept of the «world outlook» is substantiated from different perspectives, types of world outlook (folk, scientific, everyday, theoretical, individual, mass) are distinguished and characterized. The basic structural elements of the outlook (views, representation, knowledge, beliefs, deeds) are substantiated.It is determined that the world outlook is a system of principles, knowledge, ideals, values, hopes, beliefs, views of the meaning and purpose of life that determine the activity of an individual or social subject and organically interwoven with their actions and norms of thinking. From another point of view it is proved that the world outlook is not only a sum of knowledge about the world, it is a synthesis of forms of knowledge and diverse feelings, values, meanings of comprehension of the human world, a personal vision of their own problems, not only the process of assimilation of the finished knowledge, experience, values, but also the perception of the world through the needs of personality development.The content of the integrated course «I Explore the World»is analyzed. The author has investigated that the purpose of the course is the personal development of junior schoolchildren on the basis of the formation of a holistic image of the world in the process of assimilating various types of social experience, which covers the system of integrated knowledge about nature and society, value orientations in various spheres of life and social practice, methods of research behavior that characterize the ability of students to solve practical problems. The main ways and conditions of the process of junior pupils’ world outlook formation are highlighted and the effectiveness of the course «I explore the world» in this process is proved.

The present study entitled ‘the status of value orientation among rural and urban adolescents’ was undertaken in the Ludhiana and Kapurthala districts of Punjab. The study was designed to sassess the status of value orientation among rural and urban adolescents. The sample for the present study comprised of 480 adolescents within the age group of 16-18 years [boys (n=120) and girls (n=120) from rural (n=120) as well as urban area (n=120)]. Personal Value Questionnaire by Sherry and Verma was used to assess the value orientation of adolescents. The scale consisted of 40 items representing ten types of values namely Religious Values, Social Values, Democratic Values, Aesthetic Values, Economic Values, Knowledge Values, Hedonistic Values, Power Values, Family Prestige Values and Health Values. Results revealed that more number of urban females were having high level of aesthetic value, knowledge value, power value and health value whereas more number of rural females had high level of social value and total value orientation. More number of rural males were having high level of power value and health value. More number of rural respondents had low level of aesthetic value in value orientation as compared to urban respondents.

Companion animal management in Australian remote Aboriginal communities (rAcs) is a complex problem, with multiple stakeholders involved with differing needs, knowledge, power and resources. We present our CoMM4Unity approach, a participatory systemic action research process designed to address such problems. In the first step, frame analysis is used to analyse stakeholders’ perspectives, knowledge types and power dynamics to determine their relative roles in animal management. Twenty individuals were interviewed from stakeholder groups involved in animal management in the remote, island rAc of Wurrumiyanga, Tiwi Islands. Frame analysis indicated that stakeholders aligned into four groups with distinct identity frames, knowledge types and power frames: Indigenous Locals, Indigenous Rangers, Non-Indigenous Locals and Animal Managers. All four groups shared overlapping perceptions about companion animals in Wurrumiyanga, and agreed that dog overpopulation was the primary issue. However, the groups differed in their strength of opinions about how dogs should be managed. Therefore, the situation is not one of diametrically opposing frames but more a misalignment of goals and values. Our application showed that frame analysis can reveal subtle variations in stakeholder groups’ identities, goals and values, and hence how they prioritise management measures.

Over the past several decades, academic feminisms, like other emancipatory knowledges (Bensimon, 1994) that have gained legitimacy in the academy have contributed to a transformation on American campuses that is challenging traditional norms, values, and assumptions across the disciplines in an effort to build communities centered on differences. As a new paradigm for inquiry, feminist scholarship has addressed the relationship between knowledge and its social uses and how patriarchal values have shaped the content and structure of knowledge. Through an in-depth exploration of nine feminists’ worldviews and approaches to teaching and research, this study examined the meaning of transformation for diverse feminists in the setting of a large, urban research institution. Three types of feminism were identified: liberal, critical, and dialogic. Beyond providing rich descriptions of how these different feminists enact a feminist culture, insights about the process of institutional transformation are revealed. The transformative role of internal differentiation and the dialogic process in this feminist community and the significance of an emerging dialogic, feminist discourse have important theoretical implications for understanding how the transformation of an institution is sustained over time.

Purpose Prior studies mostly investigated the relationship between the cognitive characteristics of individuals and their pro-environmentalism, addressing the need for green hotel operators to understand the different green purchase patterns of consumers. The problem is that, although consumers claim they are concerned about environmental issues, their purchasing behaviour does not translate, in practical terms, into actually booking green hotels. In other words, the connection between altruism, environmental knowledge and consumer visiting green hotel is fairly unexplored in the literature. This study aims to analyze the relationships of three types of altruism and two types of environmental knowledge with attitude and intention. Design/methodology/approach An integrated theoretical research model was used, based on the value–belief–norm theory of environmentalism. The collection of 248 questionnaires was followed by subsequent empirical testing of the proposed hypotheses, which was performed using SPSS and AMOS. Findings The resulting outcomes show a significant positive relationship between green purchase attitude and intention. Further, the biospheric, altruistic and collectivistic values, as well as subjective and objective knowledge were shown to positively influence attitude and intention towards green hotel selection, respectively. Research limitations/implications Because of the chosen online sampling method, the research results may lack generalizability. Therefore, researchers are encouraged to test the proposed propositions further. Originality/value This paper fulfils an identified need to study how visiting green hotel can be influenced by different types of altruism and environmental knowledge.

There is abundant research on the factors that influence backers’ decision to support a crowdfunding project. Yet work validating existing results and offering in a single study a direct comparison of those factors among crowdfunding types is needed. We draw upon the theory of perceived values and examine empirically which perceived values influence backers’ decision across equity, lending and reward-based crowdfunding. We employ a factorial survey that testes how changing the type of crowdfunding (ceteris paribus) alters the significance of the perceived values that a project must demonstrate in order to attract funding. A total of 337 participants evaluated one of the three variations of the same crowdfunding project with a manipulation of the type of reward that was offered (shares for equity, interest rate for lending and product for reward-based). Our findings validate and extend existing results, confirming the heterogeneity in backers’ decision-to support a project.

In this paper, associated with dominance relation, lattice theory and intuitionistic fuzzy sets theory, the lattice-valued information systems with interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy decision are proposed and some of its properties are investigated carefully. And, an approach to knowledge reduction based on discernibility matrix in consistent lattice-valued information systems with interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy decision is constructed and an illustrative example is applied to show its validity. Moreover, extended from the idea of knowledge reduction in consistent information systems, four types of reductions and approaches to obtaining the knowledge reductions of the inconsistent lattice-valued information systems with interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy decision are formulated via the use of discernibility matrix. Furthermore, examples are considered to show that the approaches are useful and effective. One can obtain that the research is meaningful both in theory and in application for the issue of knowledge reduction in complex information systems.

Stingless bees are important floral visitors in tropical ecosystems and through pollination, play a key role in maintaining biodiversity and perpetuating native plant species. In this context, knowledge about the flora used by stingless bees is essential to promote their conservation in natural environments. This study had the objective of analyzing the pollen stored by Tetragonisca angustula (Latreille, 1811) in an Atlantic Forest area. A total of 27 pollen samples were collected from six colonies from April 2013 to March 2014. The samples were processed using acetolysis, in which pollen types were identified, photomicrographs and their frequency values were estimated. The most representative pollen types had their pollen morphology described. The analysis of the pollen sediment revealed 53 pollen types, three of which were indeterminate and the others belonged to 26 families. Among the registered pollen types, only 13 (distributed in ten families) showed frequency values over 10% in the analyzed samples, in which the majority presented a pollen morphology classified as microreticulated and tricolporate small monads. The pollen types Byrsonima (with frequency between 0.05 to 82.79%, which was recorded throughout the entire study period), Tapirira guianensis (0.92 to 55.65%), and Cecropia (0.24 to 49.32%), stood out as an important source of trophic resources for the maintenance and survival of T. angustula in an Atlantic Forest area. In addition, this study highlights the importance of palynological analysis for the knowledge of trophic resources used by stingless bees.

This study aimed to compare the impact of two Back School Postural Education Programs on improving ergonomic knowledge of postures adopted at school and home, as well as on reducing low back pain (LPB) in adolescents. The sample was constituted by 153 students, aged 10–16 years, with 96 (62.7%) girls, divided into 2 intervention groups (GA, GB). Two tests (theoretical and practical) and LBP questionnaire were applied 1 week before and 1 year after the end of the program. In GA, three sessions were performed for each class separately, on theoretical and practical issues, lasting 45 min and at intervals of 1 week, and in GB, only one theoretical session (90 min) was given to all students. Statistically differences on GA were obtained between the values 1 week before and after 1 year of evaluation in both theoretical and practical tests (p ≤ 0.001). In GB, only the values of the practical test present a statistical difference (p ≤ 0.001). GA obtained higher values on both tests after 1 year of follow-up compared with GB (p ≤ 0.001). The number of students with LBP decreased on GA (p ≤ 0.001). The program with longer duration, higher weekly frequency, and more practical and individualized character promotes better effects.

Indonesia is home to many indigenous peoples who can preserve the environment through their traditions amid the increasing of external values ​​and lifestyles’ penetration. The following presents the indigenous ecological knowledge of the Serawai people in the form of the celako kemali. Based on insights from the Indigenous research methods, this study aims first to assess the persistence of the celako kemali as a method for farming practices. Second, to identify transmission patterns of the celako kemali among generations in the Serawai community. This study found that there were 19 types of celako kemali. The current analysis demonstrates that, out of the 19 celako kemali, three types have been completely abandoned, five are still in use but with minor modifications, and eleven are still valid by established standards. The first generation acquires knowledge from their parents through the internalization process within the family. This first generation still preserves and maintains the 19 celako kemali daily farming activities. The second generation acquires knowledge through internalization within the family and horizontally by sharing experiences with other farmers, but horizontal channels are more dominant. This generation knows the 19 types of the celako kemali, although they dare to modify five types without losing the essence of their body of knowledge. The third generation acquires knowledge through vertical and oblique transmission, in which the oblique channel is predominant. This third generation learns a lot from village elders unrelated to the family, teachers, and mass media. However, this generation has abandoned completely three types of the celako kemali.
