Повний текст джерелаAt this work, the national static open Leontief\'s input-output model is used in order to measure some indirect benefits generated as a consequence of investment in construction and maintenance of transportation infrastructure facilities. These benefits are generated by an increase in production, once there is always a part of the production of goods and services which implies on a growth of wealth for the region into which the investment is applied. It is shown that this increase of wealth has to be taken in to account as an additional indirect benefit, and that searching for identification of the magnitude of that value added into the economy could make the difference among several investment alternatives. It is suggested that the results of that measurement could be considered in more flexible evaluation methods, such as multi-objectives and multi-criteria methods.

The United States has made use of economic sanctions to achieve political goals by limiting the relationship between trade, travel, and finance. However, economists are uncertain if the use of economic sanctions is effective and achieves the desired results. Applying the notion of demand-based inoperability, we present two nonlinear models to identify the optimal placement of sanctions and assess the sanctions' cascading effects to all sectors of an adversary's economy. For purposes of demonstration and validation, we pose a hypothetical scenario in which the U.S. considers trade sanctions on Canada. Specifically, our analysis proposes the Trade Sanction Inoperability Input-Output Model (TS-IIM). We devised this model to permit ranking of sectors by the order in which the greatest production loss occurs. Given the strong dependence of Canada on the United States, is it reasonable to expect that a sanction could result in economic repercussions? In response to this question, we also present the Inter-Country Inoperability Input-Output Model (IC-IIM), which extends the TS-IIM by considering the reduction in trade in value added (TiVA) the U.S. economy will experience. Our results from the TS-IIM and IC-IIM lead us to conclude that the proper design of a sanction considers not only the impact to an adversary's economy, but also sanction's associated repercussions at home.

Повний текст джерелаUtilizando algumas técnicas desenvolvidas no âmbito do modelo de Input-Output, analisa-se a evolução da economia Portuguesa no período 1977-95, através dum exercício de estática comparada entre os anos de 1977-95, 1977-86 e 1986-95. Um dos propósitos desta análise é traçar um esquisso do que sucedeu nas relações intersectoriais da economia Portuguêsa. Com este fim utilizámos as metodologias das extracções hipotéticas, da Matriz do Produto dos Multiplicadores, do Método Biproporcional para a análise da dinâmica inter-industrial e a análise da complexidade. Técnicas recentemente desenvolvidas e ainda não aplicadas a Portugal. O outro objectivo era compreender quais os factores que foram determinantes para o crescimento do produto, nomeadamente se alteração das relações intersectoriais tinha tido um contributo importante. Para tal aplicou-se uma análise da decomposição estrutural do rendimento. Onde a sua evolução é repartida nos efeitos da mudança técnica, da alteração da procura, da mudança de estrutura de consumo de cada sector, na mudança de cada componente da procura, entre outras. As conclusões principais: são a rápida evolução no período 1977-86 quando comparada com a de 1986-95; a assumpção de importância do sector terciário por diminuição do primário e secundário, sem que o sector secundário perca o papel primordial como factor de desenvolvimento e crescimento da economia Portuguesa; o fraco peso da mudança de estrutura de consumo no produto, nomeadamente da mudança técnica.
