Background: Ureteral stone can cause obstructive uropathy and subsequent deterioration of renal function. There are four treatment options for ureteral calculi: lithotripsy, ureteroscopy, laparoscopic ureterolithotomy, and open stone surgery. Background: Ureteric stones commonly have an impact on the quality of life of the patient. There are many treatment choices for the condition, including medical treatment, extra-corporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL), endoscopic intervention by ureteroscope (URS), or surgery (open or laparoscopic). Semi-rigid URS with laser lithotripsy is used to fragment ureteric stones, especially those in the distal ureter. BACKGROUND The selective alpha-blockers are widely used in the clinical treatment for ureteral stones as MET (Medical Expulsive Therapy). American Urological Association and European Association of Urology, strongly recommend that patients with ureteral stones be alpha-blockers to promote stone passage. Due to the physiological effect of alpha-blockers on the ureter, researchers hypothesized that the use of alphablockers before ureteroscopy may help during the Ureteroscopic procedures, making it easier and safer. Background: Lower ureteric stones (LUS) comprises of 70% of ureteric stones. Spontaneous passage depends on stone size and location in ureter. Impacted calculi initiate smooth muscles contractions causing ureteric spasms. α-1 blockers like tamsulosin and calcium channel blocker like nifedipine relaxes ureteric smooth muscle, facilitating spontaneous expulsion. Pain and discomfort associated with urolithiasis, hospitalization and surgical cost can be minimized by medical expulsive therapy. Many studies had compared efficacy of tamsulosin with nifedipine, only few have explored the combination.
