Abstract: The main typological features of the Ukrainian magazines of 1990- 2010 devoted to literary and publishing topics as a basis of contemporary specialized new (digital) media have been desicribed. The correctness of the term «book magazine» has been justified. The peculiarities of emerging new discursive practice on the pages of analyzed publications — book journalism — have been charactrized. The particular attention is paid to the problems of literary and book criticism (lack of professionalism, dependence on advertising funds, lack of authoritativeness of criticues opinions custom — tailored service setc.), which remain relevant for the new digital media of relevant topies. Encouraging children’s physical activity based on the “Świerszczyk” magazine Referring to the diversity of books and magazines, in terms of expanding reading among the youngest and shaping and shaping positive pro-health attitudes, it is worth paying attention to the role that literature plays in shaping these attitudes. Based on the magazine “Świerszczyk”, the author decided to present the motif of the movement that was captured in the magazine. On this basis, it was presented how to properly shape and expand children’s willingness to contact the book, as well as the importance of contact with the book for the child’s development. Through contact with literature, you can pass on knowledge to children in every possible field, as well as encourage physical activity. Children have a natural need to move, which should be supported, developed and stimulated by encouraging them to various forms and physical activities. In addition to translating and teaching correct lifestyle patterns. With the help of literature, stories and magazines, we can shape these attitudes in them, at the same time counteracting developmental abnormalities, chronic diseases, obesity and posture defects. An important factor in the proper development of a child is the awareness and willingness of parents to pass on the right models.

Анотація:
The aim of this research is to identify the values of a family and society, reflected in advertising discourse including bibliographic advertisement on the pages of women’s periodicals of the NEP era. New empirical material is introduced into scientific circulation: texts of traditional and editorial book advertisement of non-state periodicals for women (Magazine for housewives, 1922–1926, Women’s magazine, 1926–1930). The relevance of the research is due to the necessity of studying bibliographic advertisement in women’s specialized magazines, which has not been included previously in the orbit of scientific interest. The basic research methods are historical and typological, comparative historical, methods of linguistic and textual analysis, entire overview. The authors reveal the importance of bibliographic advertisement on the pages of “Magazine for housewives” and “Women’s magazine” in process of transformation of the value paradigm in post-revolutionary Russia, reconsideration of the old and consolidation of the new gender roles of a woman in Soviet society (the wife, the mother, the housewife, the worker, the social activist). Using syncretic of their genre nature texts on the pages of Magazine for housewives and Women’s magazine actualizes genres of bookselling advertisement (annotation, price list) as well as media genres (mini-review and review, recommendation, etc.). Comparisons, lexical repetitions, superlatives of adjectives, calls to action, etc. were used as means of language suggestion in book advertisement in specialized magazines. Indication of the uniqueness of a book novelty, promise of a gift or a benefit and personalization are becoming the universal methods of book advertisement. Since the strategies tested in bibliographic advertisement of the NEP era were actively developed in the subsequent period, our results can be used in future analysis of axiological context of the Soviet advertising discourse.

Abstract In India, as in other parts of the world, readers’ exposure to the world and to world literatures largely took place through the pages of magazines, via translations, reviews, snippets of information, survey articles, and so on. The 1950s to 1970s were the golden age of magazine publishing in Hindi. Several Hindi magazines devoted to the short story not only showcased new literary talent but also invested much effort in translating writings from foreign literatures and from other Indian languages. Competing Cold War efforts to promote literatures from their rival spheres of influence produced a profusion of literary translations in magazine and book form, on which enterprising Hindi editors freely drew. This essay focuses on the spectacular special issues curated by Kamleshwar for two Hindi story magazines to explore the nexus between the short story, the magazine, and the world.

Nelson Ball (1942– ), in addition to being an important Canadian poet, small press publisher, and bookseller, was an editor of little magazines in the 1960s. He co-founded and edited Volume 63 (1963–1967) and individually founded and edited Weed (1966–1967) and Hyphid (1968). This index provides full bibliographic data for each magazine (including dates, locations, and editors) and full listings of contributors and works (including information original to the magazines that identified from where a given contributor was writing). It also indexes advertisements for books, presses, magazines, and bookstores that appeared in the magazines to make possible the mapping of international small press distribution networks as theyhave been constructed through little magazines. This index includes an introduction that provides historical context for Ball’s small press practice and is intended to supplement existing bibliographies of Ball’s activities to continue building a literary, book-historical, and bibliographic record of his works.

Software is data that is programmed, stored, and digitally formatted with a specific function. This device itself does not have a physical form, you can operate it via a computer. For its own manufacture, this device requires a programming language written by a programmer/person who is an expert in the field. The reason is, with software that is a command program to run the needs on a computer. Adobe Indesign is a software to layout a magazine or book. In the process of applying Adobe Indesign, all materials are prepared neatly and are in one folder in order to facilitate the place in the process of laying out books or magazines as one of the final goals to be done. Even though it is neat, the important point is how to style a design work in the form of a book or magazine which will later be published to the public. To achieve this, it is necessary to pay attention to various design elements and principles in the layout. Adobe Indesign is often used by designers or smaller is a magazine designer in helping the process of arranging the layout and making it easier to create page by page. This software allows designers to lay out more pages in one book and certainly not too big if used as a raw file. With some of the above foundations, we plan to carry out community service activities with the concept of "Adobe Indesign Training for SMKN 58 Teachers to Improve Productive Teacher Competence". It is hoped that with this community service activity, which contains several Adobe Indesign operating materials, it can make it easier for SMKN 58 teachers to teach the software to students and of course can improve skill competence.

This interdisciplinary study examines the contribution that a book-review magazine makes to the cultural identity of its readers. It is the result of reflections on the cultural work of Books in Canada , on whether or not this periodical was a cultural worksite and if that is the case how it performed that cultural work. In addition, it interrogates factors that may have contributed to the magazine's demise. The study affirms that Books in Canada, a cultural enterprise from 1971 to 2008, mirrored and helped to shape book and literary culture in Canada through its circulation, through the personalities of its editors, through its front covers and through its reviewers and their reviews. Furthermore, it proposes that the demise of the enterprise was due to a combination of factors. The study begins with an introduction to book reviewing and special-interest magazines. Chapter I examines the interplay between selected visual and textual contents published in Books in Canada in its founding years. These components reflected and helped to fuel the cultural nationalism that was sweeping Canada subsequent to the 1967 World's Fair in Montreal. There were also persistent rumours and comments about the magazine that caused certain"cracks in the foundation" to appear. Chapter II compares the aims and editorial challenges of Val Clery, founder of Books in Canada , with those of Adrien Thério, founder of Lettres québécoises, and of the editors of the magazines' twentieth-anniversary issues, Paul Stuewe in the case of the former and André Vanasse in the case of the latter. Evidence in the content of the magazine, editorial and otherwise, indicated that the"contracts" that the editors made with their readers over the years were similar, to reflect and shape a cultural identity, but the result of their"projects," that is, the nature of those identities, was distinctly different. Evidently then, personal aims, preferences and political leanings of editors can have a major impact on the content of a book-review magazine and thus on the cultural work that it does. Therefore, in Chapter III, I focus on selected contents published during the tenures of two of Books in Canada 's key editors, Paul Stuewe and Olga Stein, in order to understand ways that their choices constituted a form of cultural work. The second part of this chapter moves from an analysis of the cultural work of editors to an examination of the cultural work of reviewers. Here, through a close-reading of a selection of reviews published in Books in Canada, and in other periodicals, I argue that reviewers do cultural work in the way that they negotiate their presence in a review, and in how they signal that presence through lexical choices and through the degree of intellectual interaction that they invite. Intellectual interaction is at the core of Chapter IV.This chapter consists of close readings of some of the"billboards" of the enterprise, that is, the front covers of Books in Canada , in order to show how these important components do cultural work by requiring readers to make an intellectual leap from image to text. Chapter V suggests that book reviews, the company's"bills of goods," do cultural work in much the same way as the paratexts of a book. One of my own reviews is offered as a case-study along with a number of other reviews of how central components of a book-review magazine do cultural work through the illocutionary force of their sentences. The first part of Chapter VI, the final chapter, measures the legacy of the magazine, in particular, the annual Books in Canada First Novel Award. Created in 1976, this prize is awarded to the author of the novel judged by a Books in Canada prize committee to be the best first novel in English of the year. The second part of Chapter VI sheds light on factors that may have contributed to the closure of the enterprise, including the copyright uproar that accompanied the agreement that Adrian Stein, publisher of Books in Canada and Olga Stein's husband, made in 2001 with the online book merchant, Amazon.com. Furthermore, this penultimate section of the study suggests that one of the most important factors in the magazine's demise was the decision by the Steins to exploit their position as owners, publisher, and editor of a book-review periodical, a government-subsidized one at that, to publish their own lengthy pre-trial defense of Conrad Black. The chapter then zooms back from the particular to the general with a broader consideration of the impact of technology and globalization on the book industry and on the ability of Books in Canada to survive in any form, print or digital.

A pesquisa tem como objetivo geral verificar como as revistas brasilei-ras Superinteressante, piauí, Nova Escola, Info Exame e Você S/A retratam os livros digi-tais, tendo em vista aspectos característicos dos e-books e valores do campo jornalístico. Os títulos selecionados compreendem cinco segmentos temáticos ligados ao universo do livro digital e são as publicações mensais com maior circulação no país em 2013. Os pro-cedimentos metodológicos adotados abrangeram as pesquisas bibliográfica e documental, bem com a análise de conteúdo. Através da leitura das 58 revistas que compuseram o corpus da pesquisa (a totalidade das publicações dos títulos em 2013), encontramos 34 textos que forneciam informações sobre os livros digitais. Após a análise quantitativa e qualitativa dos textos, apontamos os principais resultados: 1) É restrita a participação das revistas segmentadas na divulgação de informações a respeito dos livros digitais. 2) As revistas não estão preocupadas em educar/formar o leitor para a apropriação do livro digital. 3) O assunto livro digital não é merecedor de destaque nas revistas onde aparece. 4) Os textos apontam a reconfiguração dos papéis dos atores da cadeia do livro.
The research has as a main purpose to verify how Brazilian magazines as Superinter-essante, piauí, Nova Escola, Info Exame e Você S/A describe e-books, considering its char-acteristic features and its values on the journalistic field. The methodological procedures used were bibliographic and documentary research as well as content analysis. We re-viewed 58 magazines that constitute the research corpus (the entire publications of 2013) and found 34 texts that contained information about e-books. After a quantitative and qual-itative analysis of these texts we point out five main results: 1) The targeted magazines influence on the release of information about e-books is restricted; 2) The magazines have no interest in educating/encouraging the reader on how to acquire an e-book; 3) The sub-ject “e-book” is not worthy of a highlighted piece in the journal where it’s exposed; 4) The texts underline a reconfiguration of the actor’s role in the book chain.

This study analyzes The Horn Book Magazine editorials, published between 1924 and 2009, to ascertain the editors’ promotion of the library canon of children’s literature. The editorials concerned with Horn Book’s communities of readers are considered using Benedict Anderson’s critical lens of imagined communities; the review- and critically-themed editorials are examined using the theories of K. T. Horning, Deborah Stevenson, and Lillian H. Smith; the editorials related to the image of childhood are investigated utilizing the frameworks of childhood outlined by Andrew Stables; and the editorials involving social and political themes are explored using the critical assumptions of Gail Schmunk Murray. The analysis concludes, overall, that the Horn Book editors celebrate creators and promoters of canonical children’s literature; esteem high literary quality over popularity or pedagogical utility; view the image of childhood from a mostly Romantic perspective; and have shifted perspectives over time regarding comments about social and political events from a mostly neutral, non-committal stance to one of increasingly open views, especially with regard to censorship, multiculturalism, and current events.

À partir de l’analyse d’une appropriation médiatique, la thèse interroge les (re)configurations symboliques de la presse professionnelle en communication. Il s’agit de voir dans quelle mesure un format médiatique (la « revue-livre ») peut contribuer aux redéfinitions d’un monde professionnel, par le travail de ses frontières. Pour ce faire, la thèse avance que la revue, média disciplinaire, institue les pratiques d’un monde socio-professionnel donné, ce qui ouvre la discussion sur le statut et la fonction de ce territoire spécialisé. Instance de lisibilité et de visibilité, cet espace informationnel doit pourtant se légitimer en continu, à l’instar de l’interprofession qu’il représente. L’emprunt au format actuel de la revue, source de désirabilités médiatiques, constitue alors une tentative de dépassement de cet amas tensif. Il permet de miser sur un flou autant fonctionnel que professionnel. Il permet aussi, dans la perspective d’une analyse concurrentielle au cœur de l’étude, d’occuper ou de maintenir une place. Le support et le format deviennent des outils de valorisation, des compensateurs de reconnaissance, des moteurs de distinction. En cela, la thèse étudie un lieu de fixation, parmi d’autres, d’une prétention communicationnelle. Le couple savoir-pouvoir sera transversal à cet écrit, car l’échappée observée est une opération tactique de prise de pouvoir symbolique, tant en direction des marges de la profession qu’en son sein. Based on the analysis of the appropriation of a media, this thesis questions the symbolic (re)configurations of professional magazines in communication. The objective is to analyze to what extent a media format (the “magazine-book”) contributes to the redefinition of a professional field by questioning its boundaries. To demonstrate that, the thesis asserts that the professional review institutes the practices of its socio-professional group, which opens the discussion on the status and function of this specialized territory. Agent of visibility, this informational space needs nonetheless to continuously legitimize itself. Using this current format of the review constitutes an attempt to overcome those tensions. It allows to leverage the vagueness of both this format function and communication professions. It also allows to establish and defend one’s positioning, as it is observed in the light of a competitive landscape analysis at the heart of the study. The support and the format become valorization tools, recognition substitutes and distinction drivers. From this perspective, this research studies an illustration, among others, of a communicational claim. The duet of knowledge and power will be transversal in this demonstration, because the observed escape is a tactical move to seize symbolic power, both in direction of the margins of the profession and its core. Ultimately, the focus of this thesis is to analyze the construction of intellectual devices, aiming at being legitimate and dominant representatives, by continuously redefining the professional and the communicational

Анотація:
This thesis examines the processes of writerly and editorial literary production undertaken by women sensation authors in the 1860s and 1870s. This focus represents a shift from the prevailing critical emphasis on the consumption of sensation fiction to the realm of production and therein allows the thesis to analyse the ways in which sensation operates as a set of rhetorical and linguistic strategies for women writers in the changing publishing conditions of mid-to-late Victorian society. I consider the ways in which sensation is an idiom that permeates all aspects of magazine publishing in this period and demonstrate how it could be adapted and become an empowering discourse for women writers and editors. Furthermore, this thesis sees sensation as an important component in the transformation of the press in the 1860s and 1870s. By analysing the specific ways in which sensational strategies were appropriated and transformed, this thesis reassesses the role of sensation in the creation of women’s writing in the second half of the nineteenth century, and consider its legacies in later ‘New Woman’ writers. I achieve this by examining three women editors, who were part of the transformation of magazine publishing in the period. Mary Elizabeth Braddon (1835-1915), Ellen (Mrs. Henry) Wood (1814-1887), and Florence Marryat (1837-1899) all operated as writers and editors in the mid-to-late nineteenth century. They produced varying types of sensational fiction that they serialised in their own monthly magazines, Belgravia, Argosy, and London Society respectively. Sensation provided a dynamic and flexible means for these women author-editors to assert their status in the context of the expansion of the press in the 1860s and 1870s. I argue that their work invites a more fluid and generous critical definition of sensation.

The resurgence of modern periodical studies has expanded our understanding of “littleqrdquo; magazines and the editors behind them, but many studies continue to be restricted to the 1920s, examine male editors, and focus on well–established literary journals, rather than the subversive magazines that expanded the reign of modernism in the years from 1910 to 1950. These studies, though fascinating, privilege a select few and leave many lost to the archive. The new theory of book history and those who evaluate the book as a material object that is designed to circulate among a range of publics provide powerful and useful frameworks for recognizing the significance of what had previously been considered mere data. This study focuses on several neglected female little magazine editors who, despite various obstacles, powerfully intervened in the modernism debates throughout the 1910s through to the late 1940s by shaping successful publications to invite public appreciation of values they espoused. Unlike canonical modernist figures such as Ezra Pound and T.S. Eliot who championed an elite style of modernism that was usually inaccessible to most, Lola Ridge, Gwendolyn Bennett, Caresse Crosby, and Kay Boyle encouraged diversity and fostered heterogeneity by selecting and juxtaposing material by new writers and artists who moved easily around and over the borders separating high art and mass culture, who recovered marginalized voices from history, and who appealed for social justice. Further, their traditional and non–traditional roles while they served as editors show that in many cases being an editor meant more than just choosing works and arranging them. One chapter is devoted to Lola Ridge, the American literary editor of Broom (1922-1923). Ridge was a cosmopolitan modernist who welcomed a broad audience to Broom and invited readers to champion styles of writing and artwork that contained strong social commentary with American subjects, instead of copying European models that many argued were created for art's sake. Another chapter focuses on African American poet, graphic artist and literary columnist, Gwendolyn Bennett, who held several editorial roles at Opportunity, Fire!!, and Black Opals, from the mid–1920s until the early 1930s. A heterodox modernist, Bennett skillfully discussed and placed artistic work by members of the New Negro movement next to the work by their forefathers, subsequently fostering congeniality between the two conflicting literary groups and promoting a united front during the development of the Harlem Renaissance. She also promoted co–operation between black and white artists and writers with her universally themed poetry, graphic art, and literary column. Chapter four centers on Black Sun Press book publisher, novelist, and poet, Caresse Crosby, owner and editor of Portfolio (1945-1948), who challenged artistic reception on both sides of the Atlantic by bringing glamorous modernism to her unbound journal of eclectic work. Crosby promoted co–operation between artists and writers from conflicting World War II countries through the placement and types of materials she published on the pages of her magazine. The epilogue calls for scholars to expand their view of the modernist project and recover the often “hidden” work by overlooked female little magazine editors. Like Ridge, Bennett, and Crosby before her, Kay Boyle (This Quarter 1927-1929), who can be linked to each editor (directly or indirectly), relied on her trusted network of friends as she edited This Quarter. Her editorial support for young and experienced artists who used innovative styles and her commitment to social justice parallels her colleagues' dedication to the modernist project. These women's labor, the significant literary time periods they worked in, the different genres, critical content, and styles of modernism they championed, and the social formations their journals produced expanded the base of modernism and reinvigorated American art and literature between the Wars, leaving a legacy for future artists and writers.

AbstractThis chapter examines the rise of literary advice in Anglo-American periodical culture from 1884 to 1895. Capitalizing on a moment when fiction became both more self-consciously artistic and more potentially lucrative, literary advice of this era addressed the full range of literary practice and the attendant practical activities that made it possible. The chapter resituates the landmark “Art of Fiction” debate (1884)—an event crucially sponsored by the magazines—as the opening of an era of practical discussion that was soon after taken up in trade journals devoted specifically to authorship. The practical advice dispensed by these journals—including tools, tricks, tips, and gossip—focuses on the form of the short story, creating a loop with a form that was itself a magazine staple. This interactive looping is considered in the conclusion, where the chapter examines a systematic course in literary art offered by Atalanta, a late-Victorian “Girl’s Magazine.”

AbstractThis chapter examines the relationship between author interviews and literary advice across the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. It draws on case studies in the form of two interview series: the interwar “How Writers Work” series, published in the British periodical Everyman, and the “Art of Fiction” series, published in the American magazine The Paris Review from 1953 onward. It also discusses the explosion of author interviews in the era of online media. The chapter argues that the author interview is an expansive form, encouraging readers of all types to bring their own agendas and reading styles to the text, including but not limited to reading for advice. The very ambiguity of the relationship between author interviews and literary advice has in fact worked in the former’s favor: enabling it to gain both popularity and prestige in an era of professionalized literary studies.

The relationship between Southern Italy and fascism is a little explored theme. The contribution reflects on this subject presenting unpublished conclusions: it starts from a volume by the author named after the monthly magazine 'Il Saggiatore' (Naples 1924-1925) by Gherardo Marone and expands the reflection through a more recent book by Zoppi dedicated to the magazine 'Questioni meridionali', also published in Naples, from 1934 to 1943. The three editors of 'Questioni meridionali' - Giuseppe Cenzato, an entrepreneur who was also the soul of the company, Francesco Giordani, a young chemical scientist, and Gino Olivetti, a politician and industrialist – despite being fascists, they created a periodical that showed how the 'Southern question', never mentioned by the dictatorship, remained, however, alive in its tragic backwardness. Every year, two large issues of the magazine were released, characterized by one or more original studies and always accompanied by extensive bibliographic reviews. Among the topics, analysed by a group of highly qualified scholars and often in comparison with the North of Italy, the following emerged: the railway network, tourism, the demographic and health situation, the birth rate, the difficulties of the construction industry, ports, the economic and production context. The magazine pays particular attention to the city of Naples and its housing drama and to the southern tax system, a primary source of backwardness starting with the problem of local government.

“… A good archaeological report not only informs us about the strata from which findings originate, but also gives an account of the strata which first had to be broken through.” (Walter Benjamin. Excavation and Memory, ca. 1932. Analog materials are fundamental to my research. As part of my art practice, I tear, cut, rip, fold, and glue together printed images of the masculine performance and the male body to un-masc and reveal its fragility. During the making process what’s usually left behind is a jumble of non-representational refuse—mainly text, backgrounds, and devices used on a page, in a magazine or a book. During the first New Zealand COVID lockdown in 2020, I had limited access to new collage material, apart from a few books left behind in the car. As a result, my attention shifted to the leftovers which otherwise ended up in the recycle bin. These discarded bits illustrated a gendered language, because the material I use was intended for a male audience. It endorsed muscle, size, competing, violence, and whatever else you might expect from the fiction, advertisement, and revealing pages that promote so-called ‘maleness’, like film annuals, muscle magazines, sports, and printed adult magazines among others. Some of these books were donated, many reclaimed from opportunity and recycle shops as they were withdrawn from personal, public, and university libraries. Almost all the book covers used in the project had their own stories imprinted on both sides. These “marks” revealed their origins, recounted their lives, and relayed the strain they had to endure from countless readers, and of course myself! By incorporating printed words from a visual discourse, these new collages demand a reconsideration of text and meaning— they hint, but at the same time complicate the textual decoding process. Sourced from the refuse of a printed culture, these works attempt to reconstruct material and visual culture— a culture consumed by attention seeking and power. They focus on their own materiality, and at the same time, attempt to disrupt order, and reveal their embedded meaning. They reconfigure meaning to recount and re-present themselves. Resurrected, these assembled works are aching to go back to the library shelf and re-enter circulation in a new format. –– “Hard Working Covers” is an ongoing project which brings together 90 one-off handmade analog collages on hardbound book covers and compile them in 300 limited edition concertina books. The foldout format of the publication will reveal not only the front of the works, but also their back(sides).

A prominent figure in the field of satirical graphics in the Republic of Moldova, Nicolae Macarenco, throughout his artistic career, conceived with great skill and dedication book illustrations for literary works signed by Aureliu Busuioc, Evgeniy Kopylov, Iosif Gherasimov, Alla Grekul, posters and aesthetically expressive and semantically valuable caricatures. Prodigious, talented, persevering and devoted to his profession, the protagonist is one of the established artists who, through his vocation and talent, marked an entire era in the satirical art of the Republic. Working successfully, especially in the genres of satirical-humorous graphics, the graphic designer gave birth to works that were frequently published in important periodicals such as the satire and humor magazine Chipăruş, the magazine Femeia Moldovei, the newspaper Tinerimea Moldovei and others. The study highlights both the thematic aspects of the artist’s creation and the determined, systematized, mirrored artistic options of the protagonist. Having examined the artist’s works, the author pays increased attention to problems of compositional image, the particularities of plastic representation through shape, line, tone of human characters, psychological states of anthropomorphic and zoomorphic characters. At the same time, the analytical approach is supported by highlighting the role of color in the process of amplifying expressions and messages generated by satirical works created by the graphic artist.

In the wake of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, of 1998, Digital Rights Management systems are beginning to provide copyright protection for digital content which magazine and book publishers, music companies, software and game producers, and business-to-business participants place online. Creators and providers of digital content are now increasingly able to control end users’ use of, and accessibility to, their products and stand to gain huge profits from this capability. However, as DRM technologies evolve and develop, so does end user concern about restrictions to their access to, and use of, information. The DRM industry will have to provide a balance between fair compensation for the creators of digital content and the rights of end-users to access and use the information they need.

The aim of the paper is to present an advantage of using internet library for students who study Romanian language and literature in Serbia. In fact, due to the lack of new modern books in Romanian language in Serbia which would get interested students to read, professors at the Faculty of Philosophy, from Department of Romanian Language and Literature have made a list of websites and databases where students can read books. The research showed that students increasingly less use reading room and library at the Faculty. Necessary literature they try to found on the Internet. The research results showed that two main reasons contribute to this. The first reason is that students rarely use the library because they cannot take books with them home (library has one copy of the book), and the second reason is that library does not have the necessary books. Desiring to as much as possible students read and use professional literature, professors tried to make a list of Web sites and databases on which student can for free, at any time and from any computer read books in Romanian language about Romanian history, culture and literature. Depending on the specific library, a user may be able to access magazine articles, books, papers, images, sound files, and videos. Lists of Web sites are available to students on social networks, online consultations or in specially created group on Facebook. The teachers are aware of the impact and opportunities that the Internet provides, and therefore studying the Romanian language and literature in Serbia must be adapted to the requirements of students.

The main purpose of this article is to evaluate the current state of network communication channels in an organization and to propose recommendations for their development as a part of external em-ployer’s brand-building strategy by an example of selected Polish enterprises. This paper reviews the social network tools used thus far by the 100 Largest Polish Private Companies listed in 2017 Forbes Magazine report. The analysis involves not only their Internet presence and the way these enterprises are presented but also the level of interactivity of their activities in selected social media (e.g. Face-book, YouTube, LinkedIn, Twitter). The results show that most of the companies examined have not adopted a systematic approach to the employer branding practices they use. Therefore, a conclusion might be drawn that, although these enterprises are present in the social media networks, and they use various external communication channels in order to reach their stakeholders, they still fail to adopt a strategic orientation in developing their activities.

Episodic formulae are a representational technique that emerged from artificial intelligence in order to capture the gist of situations and epistemic states in a narrative plot. Arguably, this formalism can be applied as well to complex situations of name-bestowing and evolving perceptions of the name adopted. In the situation we analyse with epistemic formulae in this paper, the Manhattan entrepreneur who had launched a literary magazine and then found a very affluent funder for also starting a book operation, expectably felt obliged to accept her suggestion of a name for his firm. At the time, in New York City he could be expected to find out easily that the name Ecco was the Italian adverb ecco for ‘here is…’ or ‘here you go’ and so forth. Eventually, he found out that the ketchup heiress who funded him had suggested to him the name of her beloved little dog that she once owned. This time, it was private knowledge, rather than available knowledge. One can figure out (from general patterns of how people feel or behave) that she wanted a memorial for her dog, and the publisher could be expected to have made sense of that once aware, but it also brought to the fore how their balance of power affected what she could afford vis-à-vis him. The set of formulae shown here illustrates the potential for onomastic research to develop a rigorous representation for situational constellations of name-bestowing and bearing a name that thus far it could explain just informally in narrative form.

The aim of the paper is to determine the representation of non-literary texts in spelling books and their compliance with the Program of Teaching and Learning for the first grade of primary education (2017). Nine spelling books from different publishers from the Textbook Catalogue for the first and fifth grades of primary education (2019) were analyzed. The study shows the types and functions of programming non-literary texts: texts from spelling book, popular and informative texts. In addition to spelling books, these texts can be found in magazines, encyclopedias, but also on the Internet. Contemporary social context, online teaching and the use of modern technologies affect on the revised access to teaching content, as well as the selection of non-literary texts that we will show in one part of the study. We have come to the conclusion that in the spelling books most represented are non-literary spelling books texts, that there are informative and the least popular texts, and that there is no compliance of selected non-literary texts in the spelling books with the Program with suggestions on how to use them functionally in revised social circumstances.

The purpose of the article is to analyze the features of the visual language of documentary photography and the actual ways of its presentation in the media space on the example of Ukrainian photo books dedicated to revolutionary events in Ukraine. The main problems of modern photojournalism connected with the development of digital technologies are presented, the value of a photo book as an independent project of a photographer is argued, since commercial photojournalism is largely determined by the narratives of its customer. The issues of the transformation of the language of photography both in modern journalism and in the photo project are considered, the main methods of creating the content of a photo story or photo series in photo books are substantiated. Traditional reportage documentary photography, intended for use primarily for commercial purposes in illustrated magazines, is also an important means of creating independent documentary projects or photo books. Such an approach is especially valuable if it reproduces important historical events, as in the Ukrainian photo books under consideration. Ukrainian photo books are distinguished by a variety of techniques for creating content and post-processing methods that appeal to the aesthetics of postmodernism. The use of filmy contrast black and white photography, grainy or blurry images, disruption of the composition, introduce a unique and original form of expressiveness into the photo book. Due to the documentary photography, direct nature of non-staged shootings and the original style of representation, Ukrainian photo books, which are both a document of history and a reflection of the subjective vision of the author, continue to arouse interest and resonate with the viewer.

A new a dual-service dehumidifier water heater (WHD) appliance is being researched and developed by the authors. Prior research on a similar appliance, a heat pump water heater (HPWH), has demonstrated the unit’s increased performance and energy saving, and through collaboration, significant progress has been made toward developing the WHD into a potentially marketable product. The primary energy use in residential households is space conditioning (49%), and the second major energy use is hot water consumption. In DOE’s 2004 Buildings Data Book, 15.5 percent of residential energy utilization is consumed by water heating (DOE 2004, Table 1.2.3). The two major types of residential water heaters are direct gas fired (~55%) and electric resistance (~45%) (DOE 2004, Appliance Magazine 2005). The maximum efficiency of a standard electric resistance water heater is 1 (100%), and progress has been made to increase the efficiency of the current standard heaters to approximately 95 percent (DOE 2004, Table 5.10.6), which is roughly the maximum available with today’s technology. However, if the standard system is replaced by a Heat Pump Water Heater (HPWH), the performance can be increased by 140 percent (Zogg and Murphy 2004). The WHD operates as a HPWH while heating water and as a dedicated dehumidifier when water heating is not necessary. This paper presents the general design and laboratory testing results of a WHD. Preliminary performance data reveal coefficient of performances (COP) of approximately 2.2 during water heating. Further, market analysis has revealed that a potential need for this new technology is in regions with high humidity (Ashdown et al. 2004). These regions are primarily in the Northeast, Southeast and some coastal areas of the U.S. Current HPWH units do not have dedicated dehumidification and have a very small share of the residential water heat market. Of the 9.55 million residential water heaters sold in 2003 only about 2,000 of them were HPWHs (DOE 2004, Table 5.10.15).

Анотація:
For the first time, one of the popular children’s magazines of the Western Ukrainian Diaspora “Young Friends” became the subject of research. Founded in March 1955, it ceased to exist in 1984. There is no complete filing of this newspaper in any book collection of Ukraine, it has not been digitized yet, the editorial office did not have a site. For this reason, the author conducted a study of this journal in the library-archive of the Union of Ukrainians in Great Britain (UUB) in London. The peculiarities of journal formation and the specifics of the editorial policy are clarified. The experience of publishing a Ukrainian children’s magazine abroad for a long time (in color and on chalk paper) without any financial support from the state, but only by public money, is quite instructive for the current situation in Ukraine when children’s periodicals have almost disappeared from the national information space due to indifferent contemplation of the state.

Анотація:
The article states that with the development of new journalism, the author’s ability to characterize a phenomenon and identify a trend acquires special value. Representatives of Ukrainian new journalism, which is a relatively new genre, are already gradually implementing these tasks. They compose entire books from their reports, offering the reader a condensed version of versatile observations about a certain country, situation, or phenomenon. In contrast to ordinary reportage, fiction is a synthetic genre, in which it is not reported, but told. The authors of the article research Reporters which is the first magazine of new journalism in Ukraine. Their main task is to explain the phenomenon of “meaning between facts”. According to the authors, this phenomenon is simple and unique at the same time, because through people’s stories you can find depths that relate to historical, cultural and geopolitical life. The article analyzes the interaction of text and images, shows how to find meaningful messages in actual data using specific examples. The study singled out accents that relate to the interaction of text and images. Quite often, photography reproduces reality and helps the reader to paint reality in his imagination. Textual forms delve into the plot through human history and detail. In four printed issues of the magazine, the authors of the study analyzed the stories that are particularly relevant today. First of all, this concerns Russian aggression and the insubordination of Ukrainians. Key words: new journalism, non-fiction, text, images, dialog, photojournalism.

Cameroonian researchers at the Institute of Behavioral Studies and Research (IRESCO), with support from FRONTIERS, conducted an operations research project between 2000 and 2002 to assess strategies to encourage abstinence, increase contraceptive use, and reduce sexually transmitted infection (STI) rates among sexually active youth. The intervention combined peer-education strategies with media campaigns to promote healthy behavior among youth in the Mokolo neighborhood of Yaoundé. IRESCO trained 49 peer educators aged 19–25 in reproductive health (RH) communication strategies. The team coordinated educational talks, counseling sessions, conferences, and cultural and athletic events; produced comic books and brochures; and sold French and English editions of Among Youth magazine, featuring celebrity interviews and information on RH, unwanted pregnancy, and STI transmission. IRESCO evaluated the intervention’s impact through baseline and endline surveys of 2,500 youth in Mokolo and the control site, New Bell, in Douala. This brief concludes that urban youth in Cameroon are knowledgeable about HIV/AIDS and the risks of early pregnancy, but their behavior often fails to reflect their knowledge. Peer-education programs targeting youth through one-on-one counseling, theatrical performances, youth magazines, and sporting events increases abstinence and fidelity and improves consistent and correct condom use.
