Efficient planting techniques combined with appropriate irrigation methods play a crucial role in maximizing potato yields and ensuring sustainable agricultural practices. A field experiment was conducted Regional Agricultural Research Station, Jashore, Bangladesh, spanning the seasons of 2022-2023 and 2023-2024. The experiment employed the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) developed potato planter for mechanized planting, compared with manual planting under three irrigation methods: i) Farmer practice (irrigation in both furrows), ii) Alternate furrow irrigation, and iii) Drip

Potato occupied the first position among all the vegetables in respect of area and total production in Bangladesh. Effective and efficient use of energy are necessary for an improved agricultural production. Therefore, this research was undertaken for potato production to assess productivity, quantify energy flow and financial profitability of different production systems. The experimented four systems were manual planting and manual harvesting, machine planting and manual harvesting, manual planting and machine harvesting and machine planting and machine harvesting, respectively. This field experiment, was conducted to investigate a comparison of two methods for harvesting potatoes: mechanical and handy when using moldboard and chisel plow for primary tillage and three different distances for planting tubers in the rows 15, 25, and 35 cm in silt clay loam soil south of Baghdad. The factorial experiment followed a randomized complete block design with three replications using L.S.D. 5 % and 1 %. Mechanical harvest recorded the best valid potato tubers at 88.78 %, marketable yield of 31.74 ton. ha-1, efficiency lifted 95.68 %, tubers damage index 28.41, speeding up the h

Agriculture mechanization plays very important role for horticulture crops. Role of machineries is increasing day by day. In order to compensate for labour scarcity, reduce labour drudgery and time consumption in manual or traditional sowing of potato tubers, a prototype was designed on the basis of various mechanical properties of potato tubers and the prototype was evaluated in the field. The potato tubers taken were divided into three categories i.e., round, oblong and long-oblong. Different mechanical properties of potato tubers were used for designing different lead units of the potato tu

This article reflects the results of research on developed innovative technologies and research results of advanced machines for mechanized processes in potato growing in the Forest-Steppe zone of Ukraine. It is worth noting that the technologies used on homesteads and farms are costly in the first place due to the fact that many works are done manually using simple agricultural implements. These works are labor-intensive and have low-productivity and the received products cannot be competitive in European and world markets. To implement modern European technologies, agricultural producers nee

A field trial was conducted at TADCO to evaluate the mechanical harvest of autumn potato crop under different soil amendments: sand, gypsum, cow manure, and granular sulfur. The application of the sand amendment to the soil of the pivot showed easier mechanical and semi-mechanical harvest. The potato yield under the mechanical harvest was less than semi-mechanical harvest by 15.48% at the different soil amendments. More bruises were observed on the potato tubers harvested by mechanical harvest which ranged 9.34-16.33%, while bruises at semi-mechanical harvest ranged 4.28-4.75%. The final yield

SUMMARYTubers from nine cultivars grown in four plantings over 3 years at two sites in Scotland were tested for resistance to cracking by squeezing between two flat surfaces. The force was applied by a lever to which a steel plate was fixed, pressing the tuber against a wooden base. The weight on the lever was recorded when wet hair-line cracks appeared on the tuber surface. There were significant differences between cultivars from the same planting. The rank positions of some cultivars were relatively stable but others differed widely between plantings. The grouping of cultivars into the upper

Mechanical properties of vegetables or crop materials play a noteworthy part in designing new related implements. These properties can be extracted from force–deformation curves. Several factors, such as soil preparation, irrigation, and pre- and post-harvest treatments influence them. The core objective of this investigation work was to analyze force–deformation curves obtained from compression, penetration, and shear tests of potatoes (Spunta cv.) produced with three tillage implements. The potatoes cv. Spunta were cultivated in loamy sand soil under the center-pivot irrigation system. The t
