Bioassay guided purification of the ethyl acetate extract of leaves of Melia azedarach led to the isolation of the limonoid 1-cinnamoyl-3,11-dihydroxymeliacarpin, which showed IC50 values of 6 μᴍ and 20 μᴍ for vesicular stomatitis (VSV) and herpes simplex (HSV-1) viruses, respectively. The methanolic extract of the roots of Melia azedarach L.; its acetone, benzene and hexane fractions have been evaluated for their insecticidal/antifeedant activity against Helicoverpa armigera and Plutella xylostella. Methanol extract at 10 % gave minimum egg hatching and maximum antifeedant values. Amongst the fractions, acetone at 1% was found to be the best.
