Intensity and Frequency of pests disease is comparison quantity of objects be invaded and whole observed objects in percent. The intensity of pests and diseases is the level be ivaded or the level of plants damage caused by isects, fungi, bacteria or viruses that started by qualitatively or quantitalively. Pests are all animals that can be damage the trees or forest stands and forest products, plant disease is a modification or deviation in one or more parts of the physiological process and make loss of coordination in the plants.This research do in BP2LHK nursery Banjarbaru South Kalimantan from July until Semptember 2019. The method used is scoring method by determining be invaded score on mersawa seedling. The results of this study indicate that the frequency of pest and disease attacks on mersawa seedlings (Anisoptera marginata Korth) of 95.46%. The intensity of pests and diseases in the seeds of mersawa (Anisoptera marginata Korth.) of 37.9%. The level of pest damage to mersawa seedlings ranged 25,0–50,0 % include in the medium category. Knowing the rate of infiltration in the stands of Pinus, Mahogany, Acacia and Mersawa in Banjarbaru City, Analyzing the magnitude of infiltration capacity in the stands of Pinus, Mahogany, Acacia and Mersawa.In this study there is data retrieval and data collection, in the collection of infiltration data conducted under the stands of Pinus, Mahogany, Acacia, and Mersawa in Banjarbaru.Measurement of infiltration rate is performed 3 times on each stand Pinus, Mahogany, Acacia and Mersawa.In data collection there are two methods, namely primary data and secondary data, primary data is done directly in the field using an infiltrometer tool placed on a predetermined sample location.The required secondary data is supporting data such as location maps.In this study, the largest average infiltration rate was found in acacia stands with a value of 3.67 mm/h and the lowest at mersawa stands with a value of 1.50 mm/h.While the average capacity and volume of infiltration is the largest in acacia stands with an average capacity value of 3,589 mm /h and a volume of 1,519 mm3, while the lowest infiltration capacity and volume is in the pine stand with a value of 1,570 mm / h and the lowest volume of 0.800 mm3.Mengetahui laju infiltrasi pada tegakan Pinus, Mahoni, Akasia dan Mersawa di Kota Banjarbaru, Menganalisis besarnya kapasitas infiltrasi pada tegakan Pinus, Mahoni, Akasia dan Mersawa. Penelitian ini terdapat pengambilan data dan pengumpulan data, pada pengambilan data infiltrasi dilakukan dibawah tegakan Pinus, Mahoni, Akasia, dan Mersawa di Banjarbaru. Pengukuran laju infiltrasi dilakukan dalam 3 kali ulangan pada setiap tegakan Pinus, Mahoni, Akasia dan Mersawa. Dalam pengumpulan data terdapat dua metode yaitu data primer dan data skunder, data primer dilakukan langsung dilapangan dengan menggunakan alat infiltrometer yang diletakan pada lokasi sampel yang sudah ditentukan. Data skunder yang diperlukan ialah data penunjang seperti peta lokasi. Dalam penelitian ini rata-rata laju infiltrasi terbesar terdapat pada tegakan akasia dengan nilai 3,67 mm/jam dan yang terendah pada tegakan mersawa dengan nilai 1,50 mm/jam. Sedangkan rata-rata kapasitas dan volume infiltrasi terbesar pada tegakan akasia dengan nilai rata-rata kapasitas 3,589 mm/jam dan volume 1,519 mm3, sedangkan kapasitas dan volume infiltrasi terendah ada pada tegakan pinus dengan nilai 1,570 mm/jam dan volume terendah 0,800 mm3.

ABSTRACT. This research purpose to al analyze the effect of media growing which gives the best response of mersawa analyze the effect of the best treartmen on the parameters growth mersawa seedlings. This research was did for there month from January tonmarch 2023 in the shade house of the Faculty of Forestry, South Kalimantan Lambung Manangkurat university Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan and determine the effect of the best treatment for.. The experimental design used was a complete randomized design (CRD) with six treatments and 10 replications. The treatment given in this research was a mixture of top soil and stem palm oil consisting of A (control), B (9 topsoil: 1 JKS), C (8 topsoil: 2 JKS), D (7 topsoil: 3 JKS), E (6 topsoil: 4 JKS) and F (5 topsoil: 5 JKS). The growth parameters observed were plant growth percentage, plant height, number of leaves and stem diameter, then the data were analyzed using analysis of variance (Anova). The results of the analysis showed that the provision of oil palm stem give effect on the percentage of growth, height increase, leaf increase and diameter increase of mesawa plants. The best plant combination treatment on the percentage of plant growth in treatments B, C, D, E, F, while the most effective plant combination on mersawa growth response is E for plant height growth, plant diameter, and number of leaves of mersawa plants. ABSTRAK. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisa pengaruh media tanam yang memberikan respon terbaik terhadap pertumbuhan mersawa. Dan menganalisa pengaruh perlakuan terbaik untuk tiap parameter pertumbuhan bibit mersawa. Penelitian ini dilakukan selama tiga bulan dari bulan Januari hingga bulan Maret 2023 di shade house Fakultas Kehutanan Universitas Lambung Mangkurat Banjarbaru Kalimantan Selatan. Rancangan percobaan yang digunakan adalah rancangan Acak lengkap (RAL) dengan enam perlakuan 10 ulangan. Perlakuan yang diberikan pada penelitian ini adalah campuran media berupa top soil dan Janjang kelapa sawit yang terdiri dari A (kontrol), B (9 topsoil : 1 JKS),C (8 topsoil : 2 JKS),D (7 topsoil :3 JKS),E (6 topsoil : 4 JKS) dan F(5 topsoil : 5 JKS). Parameter pertumbuhan yang diamati adalah presentase tumbuh tanaman, tinggi tanaman, jumlah daun dan diameter batang, selanjutnya data dianalisis menggunakan analisis keragam ( Anova ). Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa pemberian Janjang kelapa sawit berpengaruh terhadap prosentase tumbuh, Pertambahan tinggi, pertambahan daun dan pertambahan diameter tanaman mesawa. Perlakuan kombinasi tanaman yang terbaik terhadap persentase tumbuh tanaman pada perlakuan B, C, D,E,F, sedangkan kombinasi tanaman yang paling efektif terhadap respon pertumbuhan mersawa adalah E untuk pertumbuhan tinggi tanaman, diameter tanaman, dan jumlah daun tanaman mersawa.

Sambungan kayu pada konstruksi merupakan faktor kritis dalam desain struktur karena kekuatan strukturnya ditentukan oleh kekuatan sambungan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengkaji pengaruh pelat besi terhadap kekuatan sambungan kayu menggunakan sambungan takikan lurus. Pada penelitian ini, material sambungan yang digunakan yaitu kayu Kamper (Dryobalanops sp) dan kayu Mersawa (Anisoptera sp) menggunakan alat pengencang paku dengan perkuatan pelat besi dengan ukuran panjang masing-masing 5 cm, 10 cm, dan 15 cm. Pengujian sifat fisis, sifat mekanis, dan kapasitas sambungan kayu dilakukan berdasarkan standar ASTM D143-94, BS 373-1957, ASTM 1575-03, dan SNI 7973: 2013. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kayu Kamper memiliki peningkatan yang signifikan pada kapasitas dan momen setelah diperkuat oleh pelat besi; sementara kayu Mersawa memiliki peningkatan kapasitas namun tidak signifikan. Kayu Mersawa pada perkuatan pelat besi 15 cm dan kayu Kamper pada perlakuan kontrol memiliki nilai kapasitas dan momen yang hampir sama.

Timber connection capacity, in case of beam-column joint connection provides significant impact on the wooden building structures. Strength and stiffness of timber connections using reinforcement technique of wooden building structures have not been studied intensively. This paper studies the use of nails and modified-washer to improve wood connection’s performance. The experimental tests were conducted in the laboratory by comparing the partial connection between test specimen timber without reinforcement (standard type) and the reinforcement (PRP type). The testing was conducted based on partial connection beam-column joint test using Universal Testing Machine’s with a modified holder. Wood studied includes Meranti (Shorea spp.) and Mersawa (Anisoptera spp.). PRP type connection was using nails and modified-washer strengthening, and standard type connection was using a classic washer. Parameters studied were strength and stiffness of the connection, reviewed both: proportional limit load and ultimate limit load conditions. Result obtained from this research indicates that the use of nails and modified-washer make a positive contribution to improving the performance of the beam- column timber joint connections, in terms of strength capacity (both of proportional limit and ultimate limit loads) and stiffness capacity (displacement ductility ratio). Meranti beam-column timber joint is more brittle than Mersawa beam column timber joint, it has an impact on the results. PRP-type of Mersawa timber connection produces a higher ductility than the standard type, while the PRP-type of Meranti timber connection produces a similar ductility to the standard type.

This research was carried out in the Sorong Nature Tourism Park (TWA) Forest area from August 2023. This research aims to determine potential, biomass per diameter, biomass per unit area; and the amount of carbon stored in stands of Dipterocarpaceae species in the Sorong TWA forest. The potential stands of dipterocarpaceae species found in the Sorong TWA forest are 398 trees or an average of 39.8 trees/ha. The types of dipterocarpaceae stands found were Resak (Vatica papuana), Mersawa (Anisoptera spp.), and Merawan (Hopea sangol). The distribution of dipterocarpaceae stands is quite even, with the Vatica species being very dominant, namely 156 trees or 15.6 trees/ha, Mersawa with 132 trees or 13.2 trees/ha, and Hopea with 110 trees or 11.0 trees/ha. The total standing biomass of dipterocarpaceae species was 38.82 tonnes/ha, with details for the Vatica species contributing the most biomass, namely 16.58 tonnes/ha, Mersawa 12.49 tonnes/ha and Hopea 9.75 tonnes/ha. Meanwhile, the total biomass per area is 3.88 tons per hectare. The greatest amount of biomass is stored in stands of trees with a diameter > 30 cm compared to those with a diameter < 30 cm. The stored carbon reserve content of dipterocarpaceae stands is 1.78 tonnes/ha, so assuming the Sorong TWA forest has an area of ​​945.90 ha, it is estimated that the amount of carbon stored in dipterocarpaceae stands is 1683.70 tonnes.

Testing the effect of "length of time after falling from the tree" (seed age) and soaking time on mersawa germination aims to analyze the germination rate and percentage of germinating mersawa seeds. The factors studied were LBSJP which consisted of 2 months and 1 month, and soaking of red onion extract which consisted of soaking time of 12 hours (without red onion extract/control), 6 hours, 9 hours, 12 hours, and 15 hours with red onion extract. Based on the Mann-Whitney U test, the two factors and their interactions did not have a significant effect on the variables analyzed (germination rate and germination percentage). However, the seeds with 1 month age germinated faster, namely 13 days compared to the 2 months aged seed, namely 16 days and also had a higher survival rate in seeds with 1 month age, namely 93.33% compared to 2 months, namely 60%. Furthermore, the soaking factor also did not significantly affect the germination rate and germination percentage; however, the seeds that germinated the fastest were the seeds that were seed age 1 month with soaking for 12 hours compared to the seeds that were aged 2 months with soaking for 15 hours using red onion extract.Pengujian pengaruh “lamanya benih setelah jatuh dari pohon” (LBSJP) dan lama perendaman terhadap perkecambahan mersawa bertujuan untuk menganalisis laju perkecambahan dan presentase berkecambah benih mersawa. Faktor yang diteliti adalah LBSJP yang terdiri dari 2 bulan dan 1 bulan, dan perendaman ekstrak bawang merah yang terdiri dari lama perendaman 12 jam (tanpa ekstrak bawang merah/konrol), 6 jam, 9 jam, 12 jam, dan 15 jam dengan ekstrak bawang merah. Berdasarkan Uji Mann-Whitney U, kedua faktor tersebut dan interaksinya tidak mememberikan pengaruh nyata terhadap variabel yang dianalisis (kecepatan berkecambah dan persentase berkecambah). Namun demikian benih yang LBSJP 1 bulan lebih cepat berkecambah yaitu 13 hari dibanding LBSJP 2 bulan yaitu 16 hari dan juga pada persentase hidup lebih tinggi pada benih yang LBSJP 1 bulan yaitu 93,33% dibandingkan 2 bulan yaitu 60%. Selanjutnya faktor perendaman juga tidak berpengaruh nyata terhadap laju perkecambahan dan persentase berkecambah, namun demikian benih yang paling cepat berkecambah yaitu benih yang LBSJP 1 bulan dengan perendaman selama 12 jam dibandingkan benih yang LBSJP 2 bulan dengan perendaman selama 15 jam menggunakan ekstrak bawang merah.

Deforestation on peatlands in Indonesia has become an important issue. To restore the peatland condition, planting native tree species such as mersawa (Anisoptera marginata) is required. One of the problems with planting is the frequent occurrence of inundation at planting sites. The study aimed to analyze the inundation height, which accelerated the height increase of mersawa seedlings in acid or neutral water conditions. The method used was experimental research with a factorial completely randomized design. Factors studied were inundation height, consisting of without inundation, inundation at polybag height, inundation between the tips of the polybags and the apices of the plants, and inundation reaching the apices of the plants. The water composition consisted of peat swamp water, peat swamp water mixed with boiler ash from palm oil mill, and peat swamp water mixed with dolomite lime. The treatment of inundation between the tips of the polybags and the apices of the plants led to the highest height growth, while the lowest were the seedlings without inundation. The interaction between the inundation height and the water composition had a survival percentage of 100%, while the seedlings inundated up to the seedling apices with water treatments had a survival rate of 16%. Saat ini keberadaan kayu jenis meranti merah, kulim dan mersawa sebagai bahan baku pembuat jalur di Kabupaten Kuansing Provinsi Riau semakin langka, sedangkan kebutuhan kayu sebagai bahan pembuat jalur semakin tinggi. Oleh sebab itu diperlukan pemilihan jenis kayu alternatif yang memiliki persamaan sifat kuat dan awet dengan kayu jenis meranti merah, kulim, dan mersawa agar dapat memenuhi spesifikasi pembuatan jalur. Penelitian ini bertujuan mempelajari efektivitas pengawetan kayu balam dengan teknik infus dan bandage terhadap rayap kayu kering. Balam (Macaranga conifera Muell. Agr.) dipilih sebagai kayu alternatif untuk membuat jalur karena saat ini masih banyak ditemukan namun belum banyak dipakai untuk pembuatan jalur. Hasil pengamatan di lapangan menunjukkan bahwa jalur yang disimpan di darat mendapatkan serangan rayap kayu kering, sehingga diperlukan pengawetan jalur agar tidak terserang organisme perusak kayu (OPK) khususnya rayap kayu kering. Pengawetan pohon berdiri dengan senyawa boron komplek dengan teknik infus dan bandage dipilih untuk meningkatkan kelas keawetan kayu balam. Pengujian ketahanan kayu terhadap serangan rayap kayu kering dilakukan sesuai metode SNI 7207-2014. Data diolah dengan menggunakan rancangan faktorial acak lengkap. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa pengawetan dengan teknik infus dan bandage berbeda nyata terhadap pengurangan berat dan mortalitas rayap. Pengamatan derajat serangan secara visual pada kontrol dan teknik infus yaitu 40 (tahan) yang nilainya lebih rendah dibandingkan teknik bandage 70 (sedang). Mortalitas pada teknik infus lebih tertinggi yaitu 90,67% dibandingkan kontrol 86,08% dan bandage 61,75%. Teknik pengawetan dengan teknik infus menunjukkan kandungan boron yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan teknik bandage.

This thesis presents a socio-phonological analysis of three diphthongs in Mersea Island English (MIE). Mersea Island is situated off the North East coast of Essex in South East England. Socio-economically, the Island has seen dramatic change over the past century. Originally quite isolated and economically largely self-sufficient, social and demographic changes have led to significantly greater contact (both social and linguistic) with the mainland. Thus, parallels may be drawn between the developments of Mersea Island and those of, for example, Martha's Vineyard and Ocracoke Island in North America. The nature of these social changes will be evaluated alongside the analysis of the diphthongs MOUTH, PRICE and CHOICE. As a result, the direction of change and typologies of variation present in the speech of three generations of Mersea Islanders will be established, and the relationship between the dialectological findings and external sociolinguistic factors will be explored. The results from the sociolinguistic data analysis will then be considered in light of naturalness and phonological theory. Using an approach combining the mechanics of Optimality Theory (OT) and the principles of Dispersion Theory, a three-tiered model will be constructed which effectively represents the interface between internal (linguistic) factors and external (sociolinguistic) influences on language variation and change. It will be seen, through the application of this model to MIE that, while some variation may be generated at the linguistic level, other variation may be attributed to selections based upon sociolinguistic considerations. In addition, the incorporation of variation at each level of the model allows for a distinction to be made between language change, which is generated through linguistic motivations, and change which is motivated by external sociolinguistic desires.

Le dieu égyptien Min a toujours été considéré comme un dieu de la procréation par nombre d’égyptologues. Pourtant, l’analyse de son image et de son culte sur la période allant du début de la 8e dynastie à la fin de la 17e dynastie révèle une toute autre définition. Son iconographie témoigne d’une élaboration cryptique dans l’emploi des divers éléments qui composent son image. La présente étude réanalyse par ailleurs la parèdre coptite du dieu ainsi que la réappropriation de l’image de Min au début du Moyen Empire par la divinité thébaine Amon. Loué lors de fêtes spécifiques aux fonctions agraires et dynastiques, Min fit l’objet d’une vénération certaine au cours de cette large période, aussi bien auprès des souverains que des particuliers. Min est aussi particulièrement vénéré en contexte expéditionnaire. Qu’il s’agisse du ouadi Hammamat ou du Gebel el-Zeit en passant par Mersa Gaouasis et par Konosso, le dieu est mentionné ou figuré pour ses attributions guerrières et minérales. However, the analysis of his image and his cult on the period from the beginning of the First Intermediate Period to the end of the 17th dynasty reveals a very different definition. His iconography shows a cryptic elaboration in the way of using various details composing his image. This present study reanalyzes the Coptite consort of Min as well as the reappropriation of the god’s image by the Theban deity Amun at the beginning of the Middle Kingdom. Revered during specific agrarian and dynastic religious festivals, Min was subject of a great veneration during this period, both from kings and private individuals. Min was also particularly praised in expeditionary contexts. From the wadi Hammamat to the Gebel el-Zeit via Mersa Gawasis and the peninsula of Konosso, this god was mentioned and figured for his warring and mineral abilities. Lastly, during the Middle Kingdom and the Second Intermediate Period, Min seems particularly revered in Abydos. He was inserted inside the Osirian cult with the creation of the figure of Min-Horus-nakht, the latter testifying the moving of the cult and the funerary and dynastic importance of the god in this city. With Abydenian hymns and the discovery of archeological fragments, the location of a sanctuary dedicated to the god could be brought to light. Regarding all the collected data, Min appears not as a procreation god but as a ‘Follower of Horus’, a god of strength with dynastic powers, a god of regeneration who acts over both the natural world and the underworld

Learnerships, which are meant to reduce the skills shortage, are not addressing this problem as the SETAs have failed to communicate the benefits of learnerships aggressively to companies. Thus, the purpose of this research is to determine organizational perspectives of learnerships within the MERSETA organizations in the Sedibeng district municipal area. A literature study of learnerships and applicable legislation in South Africa was undertaken in order to contextualize the South African skills development initiative. The empirical portion of the study involved conducting a survey using a self-administered questionnaire designed to elicit perspectives of learnerships within small, medium and large organizations (n=150) that fall under the MERSETA and that are situated in the industrial areas of Vanderbijlpark, Vereeniging and Meyerton, within the Sedibeng district municipal area. The data obtained indicate that although almost two-thirds of the researched organizations do currently implement learnerships, these organizations experienced several barriers and challenges when taking on learnerships. It was found that the MERSETA organizations within the study area also lack understanding and familiarity with the learnership system and their perceptions towards learnerships are for the most part, negative. Based on the findings of this study, recommendations, targeted at the National Skills Authority, the Department of Labour, the MERSETA and the SETAs, are made to assist organizations in various areas to overcome the identified barriers and challenges emanating from learnership implementation.<br>Central Research Committee (Vaal University of Technology)

With the SA outbreak of COVID in 2020 it was decided that the country needed to develop skills for medical device innovation –while using COVID as backdrop to learn about satisfying real-world medical industrialisation demands. Various parties including the National Ventilator Project (NVP), MerSETA and others initiated the challenge. A tender process was instituted for applicants to be selected.Various parties got together under the lead of UCT, namely UKZN, WITS, CPUT and NTIP, and successfully applied for grant funding in terms of Challenge. Collectively, the consortium is called as “MediVentors”.MerSETA is the Manufacturing, Engineering and Related Services Sector Training Authority. MerSETA is both funding and overseeing the challenge. MerSETA is funded by levies collected from people being employed in various industries. This means that levies collected from the current generation of employees is deployed to fund the next generation of medical device engineers and innovators.The goal of this challenge was to:-Build competencies related to the conversion of innovations from post-school learning institutions to manufacturing and engineering companies;.-Establish relationships between universities –and between universities and industry, to facilitate future industrialisation of innovation and employment; and-Encourage Higher Education Institutions towards the supply of skills equipped for a new collaborative manufacturing-and 4th Industrial Revolution paradigm.

CITiZAN, the Coastal and InterTidal Zone Archaeology Network, is an English community-based project concerned with the recording and long-term monitoring of archaeological sites exposed to erosion on the coast and open foreshore. It was set up with a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (now the National Lottery Heritage Fund) in 2015, with additional support from the United Kingdom’s (UK) National Trust, the Crown Estate, Lloyds Register Foundation, and Historic England, among others. CITiZAN’s three regional teams are hosted by Museum of London Archaeology in London, the Council for British Archaeology in York, and the Nautical Archaeology Society in Portsmouth. From these bases, six local Discovery Programmes operate in Liverpool Bay, Humberside, the Solent, South Devon, East Kent, and on Mersea Island in Essex. CITiZAN became increasingly concerned not just with heritage loss, but also with habitat loss along England’s coasts as a result of climate change. This chapter sets out the background to CITiZAN’s citizen science work and summarizes progress on the “Changing Minds, Changing Coasts” project.

Movies have become such an integral part of man's life that it is tough to imagine a world without this form of entertainment. This world can be larger than life, or it can be about the hustle and bustle of everyday life, or it can paint the heart-wrenching stories of the ostracised and abused sections of society. Social film genres help one to awaken to a sense of responsibility and to show empathy towards emotional situations. Even though films have been able to record the different social changes, its impact has never been systematically explored. This chapter is an attempt to conduct a systematic study of applying the reader-reception theory in a few films in Tamil and to study their impact on society. The films chosen for study are Aruvi, Mercury, Mersal, Velaikaran, and Nisabdham, which were bold cinematic portrayals of sexual abuse of children. These socially enlightening films help in reaching the audience and creating awareness among them. They influence the thought process in a positive way and help one to try to do his/her bit in order to be of help to humanity.
