This paper reports on the continued increase in remittances to Latin America, but also analyzes cost changes and the entry of new players, such as banks, into the Mexican market. The analysis looks at data on prices and exchange rates provided by over 100 money transfer institutions. This report will highlight some of the challenges posed to money senders and immigrant communities. In particular, two important issues emerge: the current effects of the regulations imposed by the U.S. Patriot Act of 2001; and the effect on the Latino community of the entry of banks into the remittance business.

This two-part study considers the impact of airtightness based on volatile organic compounds (VOCs) only. Two identical buildings (test and control) were constructed in Auckland, New Zealand. The test building contained an Intello vapour check membrane to reduce air-flow and subsequent heat loss. Air change rates (air changes per hour, or ACH) were calculated from air-leakage rates in each of the buildings. Data analysis demonstrated that the VOC levels in the test house were consistently higher than those established in the control house.

Experimental data on single file pedestrian movement has been analysed and implemented in a prototype movement model. The prototype model is developed to predict movement of persons based on a first principle approach using basic population data such as age, height, gender and response time to adapt the walking speed in a crowd. The experimental data provide the biomechanical information needed in the model. The intention with the new approach is to present a predictive capability for the future as a consequence of the identified demographical changes observed in today's society.
