The Barra Bonita River is an affluent of the left margin of the Ivaí River, upper Paraná River basin. Fish samples were conduced in November 2006 (spring) and in February 2007 (summer), in three sampling stations along the Barra Bonita River, using gill nets, casting nets, and sieves. Thirty one fish species were collected, which belong to five orders, 14 families, and 25 genera. Among them, five are probably new to science.

Pseudolucia parana Bálint, 1993 was described from Castro, Paraná, Brazil, where it was first collected over 120 years ago. It was observed/collected quite sporadically in the second half of the 20th century in a few isolated habitats in the State of Paraná. Excluding a single record since the early 2000s, the species was not observed in all its known sites in Paraná due to urbanization of its habitats or change of land use. In this study we conducted an ichthyofaunistic survey in the Pirapó River drainage, upper Paraná River basin, based on voucher specimens deposited in the Coleção Ictiológica do Nupélia/UEM. We reported a total of six orders, 23 families, and 76 species, in which four of them were classified as allochthonous and two as exotics. Melilotus albus Medik. is a cosmopolite and invasive species, native to the Old World, which in Brazil had its occurrence hitherto recorded only in the states of São Paulo, Paraná and Rio Grande do Sul. This study extends its distribution to Santa Catarina state, southern Brazil, due to the recent discovery of populations in the municipalities of Florianópolis and Xanxerê. These new records are ca. 250 km distant from the nearest records, in Paraná state, also in southern Brazil.

Greenidea psidii van der Goot, 1916 is registered by the first time in Brazil. It was found associated with Psidium guajava L. in Paraná, Santa Catarina, and São Paulo States, and with Psidium cattleianum Sabine in the city of Curitiba, Paraná. A brief comparative synopsis and pictures of the main diagnostic characters are given for this species and for Greenidea ficicola Takahashi, 1921, which was also recently found in Brazil, collected on Ficus benjamina (L.) in Paraná and Santa Catarina, and on Ficus microcarpa L. in São Paulo State.

This article describes the occurrence of aortic body tumors in four dogs from Southern Brazil. All dogs were males, more than 9 year of age; most of these were from the Boxer breed of dogs. The animals had large neoplastic growths at the base of the heart, which demonstrated histologic characteristics consistent with that of aortic body tumor. By immunohistochemistry, tissue sections from all dogs reacted positively to neuron specific enolase. These cases might represent the first description of this tumor in dogs from Brazil, as confirmed by immunohistochemistry.
