Анотація:
The present study was designed to empirically examine the effectiveness of adaptive training methods to enhance operators’ performance of unmanned aerial systems commonly used in search-and-rescue missions. In order to do so, a game-based (Stealth Adapt) test was developed to measure a player’s task-prioritization such flight path to search and rescue the targets. This simulated game took into account the player’s ability to quickly integrate disparate information about available targets, based on some gaming scenarios. These gaming scenarios included a variety of established rules of engagement, attending to four factors: 1) proximity to the nearest hostile force, 2) lethality or probability of attack of the nearest hostile force, 3) duration of the time stranded, and 4) survivability in the game. Results demonstrated a change in perceived workload as a result of repeated exposure to the software, and indicated that familiarity with particular programming interfaces may help predict performance in the Stealth Adapt task.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to find out how the overall destination experiences of the foreign tourists in India are influenced by the perceived authenticity of the street foods and the degree of their variation/modification. It will also discuss how these characteristics further influence the tourists’ behavioural intentions (intention to revisit and word-of-mouth).Design/methodology/approachData have been collected from 263 foreign tourists visiting Delhi at various street food vending sites using location intercept technique through structured questionnaire. Different ad hoc scales were adapted based on previous studies for measuring the perception of authenticity, ability to adapt, cultural disparity and overall perceived experience. The partial least squares method was applied to achieve the dual estimation of the measurement and the structural model.FindingsResult indicates that perceived authenticity and cultural disparity have a positive influence on the overall perceived experiences of the foreign tourists. It is also found that the degree of variation/modification in the street foods condenses the authenticity perception of the tourists. Findings reveal that the tourists are less influenced by the cultural disparity when they are able to adapt to diverse cultures and simultaneously authenticity have a larger effect on their overall destination experiences.Originality/valueAlthough various studies have been conducted in the past related to the food experiences of tourists at various destinations, this will be the first attempt to find out how the overall destination experiences of the foreign tourists in India are influenced by the perceived authenticity of the street foods and the degree of their variation/adaptation. It will help the stakeholders to appropriately align the gastronomic product and enhance the tourists’ overall destination experiences.

Food prices in Canada have reached uncharacteristic highs in the last two years. Seven-dollar heads of cauliflower in 2016 became the poster-vegetable of the costs of food prices and questions arose about how Canadian consumers were assessing and mitigating their vulnerability. This study surveyed just over 1000 Canadians in all regions of Canada, including the North, to assess perceived vulnerability of Canadian consumers to rises in food prices and determine the behavioural changes that occurred to mitigate vulnerability. We found that Canadians generally felt more vulnerable to fluctuating food prices and that certain demographic traits, such as age, income, geographic location, and family status did have an impact on degree of vulnerability and what methods consumers would use to try to adapt to price volatility. Some consumer groups were more vulnerable than others, but consumers demonstrated awareness of and ability to adapt to changes in food prices over time.

Background: Moving interventions (i.e., new knowledge, tools, and technologies) into clinical practice are often lengthy and challenging processes, even when they are strongly supported by research evidence. Conversely, organizations and providers sometimes adopt interventions in the absence of strong research evidence. Understanding decision-making around the adoption of new interventions is paramount to developing more effective strategies to facilitate the use of evidence-based interventions in practice. Aim: To illuminate the decision-making processes involved in the adoption of patient-centered interventions by cancer care teams, including how research evidence is considered, and identify additional factors influencing these decisions. We focused on two interventions (survivorship care plans [SCPs] and patient decision aids [PtDAs]) due to their differing levels of research evidence and real-world adoption: SCPs = low evidence; high adoption; PtDAs = high evidence; low adoption. Methods: Guided by the principles of grounded theory, we conducted semistructured interviews with clinicians, managers, and administrators of cancer care programs across Canada (n=21). Data were collected and analyzed concurrently, using a constant comparative approach. Data collection ended upon reaching theoretical saturation. Results: Participants emphasized that high-quality research evidence is often unnecessary when making adoption decisions around interventions that are intuitively “good ideas.” Six key factors contributed to adoption/nonadoption decisions around SCPs and PtDAs: 1) alignment (or misalignment) of research evidence with clinical experiences, patient experiences/preferences, and local data; 2) perceived benefit to clinicians themselves; 3) endorsement by respected organizations; 4) existence of local champions; 5) ability to adapt the intervention to local contexts; and 6) ability to routinize the intervention across a large patient population. Conclusion: Many factors influence decisions to adopt patient-centered interventions, including clinicians' experiences and perceived benefits, the existence of organizational and extraorganizational advocates, and ease/reach of implementation.

Maintaining engagement is challenging in human–human interaction. When disengagements happen, people try to adapt their behavior with an expectation that engagement will be regained. In human–robot interaction, although socially interactive robots are engaging, people can easily drop engagement while interacting with robots. This paper proposes a multi-layer re-engagement system that applies different strategies through human-like verbal and non-verbal behaviors to regain user engagement, taking into account the user’s attention level and affective states. We conducted a usability test in a robot storytelling scenario to demonstrate technical operation of the system as well as to investigate how people react when interacting with a robot with re-engagement ability. Our usability test results reveal that the system has the potential to maintain a user’s engagement. Our selected users gave positive comments, through open-ended questions, to the robot with this ability. They also rated the robot with the re-engagement ability higher on several dimensions, i.e., animacy, likability, and perceived intelligence.

Purpose – The present study examines ways in which micro and small business owners and managers in the olive oil industry seek to adapt to emerging challenges and build resilience. In an increasingly demanding business environment, the ability to become resilient and be able to adapt to new or existing challenges is crucial. However, in what ways do micro and small business owners and managers seek to adapt to emerging challenges and build resilience? The present study examines these issues among micro and small wine and olive oil producers. Design/methodology/approach – An online questionnaire was designed to gather the views of respondents on challenges, impacts of these challenges and strategies they consider to adapt to current challenges. A total of 93 winery owners/managers and 52 olive growers participated. Findings – The findings identify increasing costs, decreasing consumption and the effects of the economic crisis as the most significant barriers, with impacts in the form of loss of trust in government institutions and loss of confidence in a soon economic recovery. To adapt and become resilient, enhancing promotional, educational and diversification activities, such as starting or growing exports, or becoming more involved in technology and social media are perceived as fundamental business strategies. Originality/value – In considering elements related to the theory of resilience, the study provides empirical evidence of adaptive strategies among micro and small businesses, as well as ways to achieve resilience. Overall, the findings have important socio-economic implications for various stakeholders, including the sectors involved, government agencies, and ultimately for consumers, and local communities where businesses operate.

As the ability to respond and adapt to crises, we conceptualize and examine organizational resilience through four components (active, temporal, posture, and performance). This multidimensional view of resilience combines the perceptions of senior managers and other indicators including the presence and nature of formal business continuity management. This study examines whether relationships with neighboring firms in a business park substitute wider network relationships. Relationships between locational attributes (locational contiguity within a business park), entrepreneurs’ social networks, and the perceived resilience of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the United Kingdom are examined using data collected from 268 SMEs. Locational attributes are positively associated with organizational resilience (in both aggregated and constituent forms) while revealing an inverse relationship between social networks and perceived resilience. Importantly, the study contributes to a place-based view of resilience to explain why the impact of social networks differs from the positive associations that are found in prior theoretical and empirical work.

The research on which this article is based examined the relationship between attitudes towards older workers held by personnel managers and directors in large organisations (500 or more employees) across virtually the whole range of industrial sectors (excluding agriculture), and their employment practices. The aims of the research were to explore the operation of workplace social closure and the social construction of age in organisations, and to provide practical information to better inform policy making towards older workers. Analysis indicated that attitudes associated with recruitment, training and promotion practices were: perceived trainability, creativity, cautiousness, physical capabilities, the likelihood of having an accident, and ability to work with younger workers. Attitudes which showed no relationship with employment practices were: perceived productivity, reliability, ability to adapt to new technology, interest in technological change and flexibility. It is argued that these findings stress the need to target stereotypical attitudes towards older workers if age barriers in employment are to be removed. However, it is also argued that educational campaigns alone are likely to exert only limited influence against a background of a long-term decline in economic activity rates among older workers. The research also indicates that future research studies need to take greater account of potential differences between different groups of older workers.

During the last couple of years there has been a major digitalization of the financial sectorwhich FinTech have largely contributed to. FinTech does not solely contribute withpossibilities, but it also inflicts risks within the financial system when adding challengesrelated to IT-security. These risks pose new operational risks within the financial sector.Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine as well as analyse different variables thatexplain the perceived trust and risks when using these digital financial services. This isbecause customers play a vital role in keeping their services as well as maintaining financialstability within the FinTech corporations. To examine the subject in this study a deductiveapproach is applied which focuses on previous empirical research and models likeTechnology Acceptance Model (TAM), Elaboration Likelihood Model (ELM) as well asBehavioral finance. These models aim to explain how customers accept new digitalphenomenon. Furthermore, the study performs a quantitative research method through a webbased survey questionnaire. The study examines the independent variables usage, perceivedability to adapt and perceived risk in relation to the dependent factor perceived trust. Thestudy’s sample consists of 185 survey responses which were analyzed through descriptive andinferential statistics. The hypotheses were tested using a multiple regression analysis wherethe independent variables and control variables were analyzed against the dependent variable.The empirical findings showed that customers' perceived ability to adapt to FinTech servicesdid not have a statistically significant effect on perceived trust. Furthermore, perceived riskand usage had a statistically proven influence on perceived trust. The control variables for thisstudy were age and gender where neither had a statistical association to the dependentvariable. Lastly, the empirical findings of the study can be useful for FinTech companiessince it proves that risks need to be minimized to increase perceived trust
Det har skett en stor digitalisering av den finansiella sektorn under de senaste åren därFinTech och dess tjänster har haft en betydande roll. Dock är inte de innovativa digitalatjänsterna som FinTech bidrar till enbart möjligheter, utan det utsätter även den finansiellasektorn för risker. På grund av digitaliseringen medför dessa risker nya operationella riskerinom den finansiella sektorn. Studiens syfte är därav att undersöka och analysera de variablersom förklarar det upplevda förtroendet och riskerna som finns vid användningen av digitalafinansiella tjänster. Studiens fokus ligger på kunderna då de har en nyckelroll i bevarandet avdessa tjänster. Studien har sin grund i ett deduktivt tillvägagångssätt med fokus på tidigareempirisk forskning på området, men även olika modeller som Technology Acceptance Model(TAM), Elaboration Likelihood Model (ELM) samt Behavioral finance som syftar till attförklara hur kunden accepterar nya digitala fenomen. För att undersöka detta tillämpas enkvantitativ metod genom användningen av en webbaserad surveyundersökning. Urvalet bestårav 185 svar som därefter analyserades genom deskriptiv statistik och inferentiell statistik.Detta skedde i form av en multipel regressionsanalys som analyserade studiens tre hypoteserdär studiens tre oberoende variabler och kontrollvariabler analyserades emot studiensberoende variabel. Resultaten visade på att risk och användning hade ett statistiskt sambandmed det upplevda förtroendet medan den egna upplevda förmågan inte hade det. Studiensresultat kan vara användbara för FinTech-företag då resultaten visar att risker måste minskasför att kundförtroendet ska öka.

The purpose of this study was to examine the issue of career and family balance for Georgia agricultural teachers by gender. The research objectives included describing career and family responsibilities, exploring barriers to fulfilling career and family responsibilities, and perceived abilities of teachers to maintain the balance of career and family expectations. The study was conducted as a census of all Georgia agricultural teachers on an extended day/extended year contract via an online survey. It was determined that Georgia agricultural teachers are working an average of 57 hours per week and 39 days per summer, with both genders being similar in the amount of time spent on the job. Teachers carried out traditional gender roles in family responsibilities, with females handling the majority of the housework and childcare and males handling the majority of farm and yard work. Both males and females viewed their job responsibilities to be significant barriers to fulfilling family responsibilities and one third of respondents found it was always difficult to balance career and family. It was concluded that Georgia agricultural teachers are feeling torn between meeting job expectations and spending adequate time with their families, with females feeling the strain slightly more than males.

One of the most challenging issues within the planning and development process of our cities and societies is the changing climate that already can be seen in several parts of the world. To be able to decrease the cities’ and societies’ vulnerability towards these projections it is important to actively work with climate adaptation. Today, the majority of the climate adaptation measures are implemented in new developments, and not in the same extent in the existing built environment. Because the projected climate changes will affect all parts of the cities and societies it is important to work with an overarching climate adaptation. Within the Swedish context, the municipality has an important role in the work with climate adaptation. The aim of this master thesis is to generate an understanding of how Swedish municipalities work with climate adaptation within the existing built environment, and what challenges they face within their work. Additionally, the study will look at how the current legislation affects the municipal climate adaptation work, and how the new amendments in PBL, will affect the municipalities’ work. Three municipalities (Täby, Vellinge, and Gothenburg) have been studied to be able to conduct this master thesis, where sixteen interviewees from the municipalities, as well as from the Stockholm County Administrative Board and from Sweco, a Swedish consulting company, have been interviewed. The results from the study show that several challenges that the municipalities, in the current situation, are facing and are affecting their climate adaptation work. The main challenges that was identifies were the uncertain forecasts, the political will and priorities, the division of responsibility, the financial responsibility, and conflicting legislations. These challenges are creating limitations and difficulties for the municipalities to act in the issue of adapting to the changing climate, especially within the existing built environment. In the current situation, the three studies municipalities have started their climate adaptation work but are facing difficulties with going forward in the process.
En av de mest utmanande frågorna inom dagens planering och utveckling av våra städer och samhällen är klimatförändringarna och dess effekter som redan är synliga i flera delar av världen. För att minska städernas och samhällenas sårbarhet gentemot dessa förändringar är det viktigt att aktivt arbeta med klimatanpassning. Idag implementeras majoriteten av dessa typer av åtgärderna inom den nya bebyggelsen och inte i samma utsträckning i den befintliga bebyggda miljön. Eftersom de beräknade klimatförändringarna kommer att påverka alla delar i våra städer är det viktigt att arbeta med en övergripande klimatanpassning. I Sverige har kommunen en viktig roll i arbetet med klimatanpassningar. Denna masteruppsats syftar till att skapa en förståelse för hur svenska kommuner arbetar med klimatförändringar inom den befintliga bebyggda miljö, samt vilka utmaningar de står inför i detta arbete. Studien kommer även att undersöka hur den nuvarande lagstiftningen påverkar det kommunala klimat-anpassningsarbete samt vilken påverkan de nya lagändringarna i PBL kommer att resultera i. Tre kommuner (Täby, Vellinge och Göteborg) har studerats för att kunna genomföra denna masteruppsats, där sexton intervjupersoner från kommunerna samt från Stockholms länsstyrelse och Sweco har intervjuats. Resultatet från studien visar att kommunerna står inför flertalet utmaningar som skapar hinder och svårigheter i deras klimatanpassningsarbete. De främsta utmaningarna som har identifierats är de osäkra prognoserna som påverkar kommunernas planering av åtgärder samt deras vilja till klimatanpassning; den politiska viljan, prioriteringarna, och stöder för att anpassa kommunen; ansvarsfördelningen gällande arbetet med klimatanpassning mellan de olika nivåerna i samhället, samt mellan olika aktörer; det ekonomiska ansvaret att finansiera klimatanpassningsarbete; och den motstridiga lagstiftningen som skapar svårigheter för kommunerna. Dessa utmaningar försvårar för kommunerna att aktivt agera i frågan angående klimatanpassning och därmed att säkra den befintliga bebyggda miljön för de förväntade klimatförändringarna. I dagsläget har de tre studerade kommunerna påbörjat sitt klimatanpassningsarbete, men på grund av de identifierade utmaningarna, har de svårigheter att gå vidare i denna process.

Through a set of four papers this dissertation is aimed at understanding the role of subjective ability judgment in the form of perceived entrepreneurial ability in influencing the decision to initiate entrepreneurial activities. Recent studies suggest that the decision to initiate entrepreneurial activities could be influenced by subjective ability judgment i.e. positive perceptions of one´s entrepreneurial ability. This dissertation extends this steam of research by comparing perceived entrepreneurial ability with actual ability and examines the role of these two ability dimensions in influencing the quality and quantity of entrepreneurial activities. In this dissertation entrepreneurial ability is defined as the cognitive and non-cognitive abilities necessary to undertake and pursue the tasks of new venture creation and management while perceived entrepreneurial ability is an individual´s subjective judgment about his/her own entrepreneurial ability. The main premise of this dissertation is that perceived entrepreneurial ability is an important determinant of entrepreneurial behavior. Secondly, the impact of perceived entrepreneurial ability is higher than actual ability in the decision to initiate entrepreneurial activities leading to increase in the quantity of entrepreneurial initiatives. Thirdly, individuals with high actual ability are more likely to initiate entrepreneurial activities when they develop positive perceptions about their entrepreneurial ability. Fourthly, the interaction effect of high actual ability and perceived entrepreneurial ability is positive and influences both the decision to initiate entrepreneurial activities and the choice of innovative entrepreneurship. This implies that perceived entrepreneurial ability in conjunction with high actual ability is a source of quality entrepreneurship. To test the above premises this dissertation uses a large statistical sample with consistent definitions and concepts across multiple contexts. Overall the results of this dissertation support the contention that perceived entrepreneurial ability have a distinct and significantly positive influence on the decision to initiate t entrepreneurial activities and its impact is greater than actual ability. Furthermore, the joint effect of perceived entrepreneurial ability and high actual ability not only influences entrepreneurial action but also leads to innovative form of entrepreneurship.

The purpose of this study was to investigate differences in self-perceived abilities of supported employment specialists to perform supported employment processes in relation to their educational backgrounds in South Korea. In order to identify this subject, a research performed survey to 100 supported employment specialist. All supported employment specialists identified were surveyed regarding their self-perceived abilities to perform supported employment processes, along with their demographic characteristics. Two independent variables, education level and academic major, were used in this study. The dependent variable was self-perceived abilities of supported employment specialists to perform seven supported employment processes, such as Job development, Job analysis, Vocational evaluation, Client to job matching, On the job training, Ongoing assessment, and Follow up. The results of this study indicated supported employment specialists who had completed undergraduate degrees perceived their abilities to be significantly higher than supported employment specialists who had completed graduate degree in performing the competencies of each supported employment process, except vocational assessment. However, the significant results in this research hypothesis indicated the opposite outcome to the proposed research hypothesis 2. Next, there is no differences of self-perceived ability relation to performing supported employment between supported employment specialists who had majored (vocational) rehabilitation and supported employment specialists who had majored social work, psychology, and others. Finally, there are no differences of self-perceived ability relation to performing supported employment processes, except job analysis and on-going assessment according to the interaction effect between the education level and major. The findings of this study are discussed in implication for rehabilitation practice and education, and future research.

Environmental change is a ubiquitous feature of the conditions faced by species, so they must either evolve, move to avoid threats, or perish. Species require genetic diversity to evolve to cope with environmental change through natural selection (adaptive evolution). The ability of populations to undergo adaptive evolution depends upon the strength of selection, genetic diversity, effective population size, mutation rates and number of generations. Loss of genetic diversity in small populations reduces their ability to evolve to cope with environmental change, thus increasing their extinction risk. Adaptive evolution in the short to medium term predominantly utilizes pre-existing genetic diversity, but new mutations make increasing contributions in later generations. Evolutionary potential can be estimated from the heritability of fitness in the environment of interest, or by extrapolation from genomic diversity.

AbstractSmall-scale farmers’ limited adaptive capacity confronted with the adversities of climate change is a major call for concern considering that small-scale farms feed over half of the world’s population. In this light, small-scale farmers’ adaptive choices and adaptive capacity to climate change were assessed. Data were collected from primary and secondary sources using a mixed research approach. Findings revealed that extreme weather events have been recurrent and small-scale farmers perceived access to land, household income, and the planting of trees/shrubs on farms (agroforestry) as the main factors influencing their capacity to adapt to climate change. Agroforestry and monoculture practices were the main adaptive choices of small-scale farmers confronted with climate change. T-test and chi-square test statistics revealed a strong non-cause-effect relationship (p < 0.001) between small-scale farmers’ capacity to adapt to climate change and different socio-economic, institutional, and environmental variables. Parameter estimates of the binomial logistic regression model indicated the existence of a strong direct cause-effect relationship (p < 0.05) between small-scale farmers’ capacity to adapt to climate change and access to credit, household income, number of farms, access to information, and access to land, indicating that these variables enhance small-scale farmers’ capacity to adapt to climate change. It is recommended that policy makers examine the adaptive choices and determinants of farmers’ adaptive capacity unearthed in this chapter when formulating policies geared towards enhancing small-scale farmers’ capacity to adapt to climate change.

AbstractResilience is defined as “The ability to prepare and plan for, absorb, recover from and more successfully adapt to adverse events” (US National Academies). Resilience has four pillars: • Anticipate: the ability to anticipate and reduce the impact of shocks through preparedness and planning, • Absorb the ability to absorb and cope with the impacts of shocks and stresses. • Adapt: the ability to change in response to multiple, long-term and future risks, and to learn and adjust after a shock materializes. • Transform: the ability to take deliberate steps to change the systems that create risk, vulnerability and or inequality. How does insurance intervene in building resilience? The outcome of insurance is to restore property and livelihoods in case of an adverse effect. It does that by providing a cash infusion into the socio-economic system of the affected communities immediately after the event. The cash is used to restore property and avoid interruption of commercial and industrial activity. Insurance also intervenes in terms of reducing impact of stresses (which are the more extensive types of risk) since it enables a system of “maintenance” by providing funds for recovery under minor but more frequent events. For most developing countries, governments have been the insurer of last resort when it comes to catastrophe risk (referred to as Cat Risk in the insurance industry). The reason is that level of cat insurance penetration in most developing countries is very low, sometimes lower than 1%. The assurance of government intervention coupled with the lack of effectiveness of the financial transaction associated with a traditional insurance policy negate any incentive for individuals to acquire a cat insurance policy. The Turkish Compulsory Insurance Program or TCIP is one of the early experiment to change that paradigm and to provide a meaningful role for cat insurance in emerging economies. After a slow start, TCIP has now developed the financial capacity and the spread of coverage to play a significant role both in the financing of risk but also in supporting earthquake risk reduction in Turkey. New cat insurance products based on parametric indexing have since emerged. These insurance products could further improve the efficiency of TCIP and other cat insurance pools by making them more attractive to individuals, thereby scaling up their contribution to building resilience.

The logical question that arises is simple: Why, despite all the technologies and medical innovations of our time, has a complete cure eluded us? This chapter sheds light on one of cancer’s most impactful attributes: its heterogeneity and, more specifically, the intratumoral heterogeneity of cancer metabolism. Simply put, what makes cancer one of the deadliest diseases is its ability to change and adapt. Cancer cells’ rapid evolution, coupled with their irrepressible ability to divide, gives most of them the advantage over our immune systems. In this chapter, we delve into the complexities of this adaptability and the vital role that metabolism plays in the rise and progression of this heterogeneity.

Focusing on the experiences of Denmark, Ireland, and Switzerland in managing the 2008 financial crisis, the book shows that perceived state vulnerability gives rise to social partnerships that contribute to the building of thick institutions, leading to cooperation, sacrifice, flexibility, and concerted state action in the national interest. The result is resilience—the ability of countries to adapt effectively to new situations and challenges that arise. Furthermore, perceptions of vulnerability facilitate a sense of national identity, which may evolve into a sense of national solidarity. This chapter explains the vulnerabilities of nations and states, the paradox of vulnerability, the distinction between thick and thin institutions, and precursors to the 2008 financial crisis. An appendix describes the book's research methodology.

Context aware services have the ability to utilize information about the user’s context and adapt services to a user’s current situation and needs. In this article the authors consider users’ perceptions of the added value of location awareness and presence information in mobile services. The authors use an experimental design, where stimuli comprising specific bundles of mobile services were presented to groups of respondents. The stimuli showed increasing, manipulated, levels of context-awareness, including location of the user and location and availability of buddies as distinct levels. Their results indicate that simply adding context aware features to mobile services does not necessarily provide added value to users, rather the contrary. The potential added value of insight in buddies’ location and availability is offset by people’s reluctance to share location information with others. Although the average perceived value overall is rather low there exists a substantial minority that does appreciate the added context aware features. High scores on constructs like product involvement, social influence and self-expressiveness characterize this group. The results also show that context aware service bundles with utilitarian elements have a higher perceived value than bundles with hedonic elements. On the basis of the different results some guidelines for designing context aware mobile services are formulated.

Learning organizations and internal entrepreneurship are among the most important concepts for the organizations who are struggling to survive in the long term through achieving sustainable competency advantage. In this study these two concepts, which allow organizations to be dynamic to adapt change and development, are handled with their dimensions and analyzed for the sample. In addition, the effect of learning organizations concept, which is defined as the ability of an organization to learn from experiences and apply this knowledge to changing environment conditions systematically, on internal entrepreneurship, which means entrepreneurial activity inside the organization. According to the descriptive analysis results; the employees in the sample perceive their organizations as learning organizations in high level; and internal entrepreneurial activities are found to be high. Regression analysis is utilized to test the research model, and the results imply that if an organization is perceived as a learning organization, the internal entrepreneurship activities in the organization display an increase.

The Industry 4.0 (I4.0) together with the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) enable business productivity to be improved through rapid changes in production scope in an increasingly volatile market. This technology innovation is perceived by integrating manufacturing systems, managing business rules, and decentralizing computing resources, enabling rapid changes in production systems. The Reference Architecture Model for Industry 4.0 (RAMI 4.0) is a three-dimensional layer model to support I4.0 applications. One of the major challenges for adopting RAMI 4.0 is the development of solutions that support the functionality of each layer and the necessary interactions between the elements of each layer. This paper focuses on the proposal of architecture for flexible manufacturing in I4.0 using all the Information Technology (IT) Layers of the RAMI 4.0. In order to enable a standardized and interoperable communication, the architecture used the OPC-UA protocol to connect the low layers elements in the factory perspective and REST APIs to connect the high layers in the business perspective. The integration architecture creates an online interface to provide the client the ability to enter, view, and even modify an order based on their needs and priorities, enabling the industry to implement rapid changes to adapt to the marketplace.

The paper considers psychological adaptation in the conditions of military service. The author argues that adaptation to a new social role, a new professional environment, and military relations requires a person to mobilize all his adaptive resources and developed self-regulation skills. As the main indicators of readiness for psychological adaptation, the adaptation experience of a serviceman in the pre-conscription period and psychological resistance to adaptation processes are considered. An indicator of psychological adaptation in the narrow sense of the word is the quality of the military personnel’s development of a military accounting specialty. As a result of psychological diagnostics and analysis of adaptive indicators of the subjects, all participants of the study were divided into three groups. The first group of military personnel needs additional time to fully master the military accounting specialty, because they have problems with psychological readiness to learn new types of activities, and they perceive the service situation as stressful and impossible for them. The second group includes military personnel who have shown a high level of development of military accounting specialty, but have insufficient psychological ability to adapt and have not had extensive experience of social adaptation in civilian life. The third group includes military personnel who demonstrate a high level of development of military accounting specialty in the initial period of military service. Recommendations on adaptation have been developed for each group, which are presented as a threelevel model of psychological adaptation of military personnel to the conditions of military service. The model is a complex of organizational, psychological, educational and professional activities aimed at the development of personal qualities of military personnel that contribute to improving the level of adaptive development. The implementation of the proposed model allows you to build working relationships in the military team; to form a belief in the need to improve the quality of knowledge for successful military professional activities; to successfully perform their professional military duties; to implement personal adaptation resources.

This note brings together lessons from the IDBs and other institutions efforts to adapt a skills taxonomy for Latin America and the Caribbean countries. These efforts have focused primarily on the ability to gather and make use of labor market information on skills demand from non-traditional data sources like online job vacancies. Most of these efforts have used the European Skills, Competences, Qualifications and Occupations (ESCO) taxonomy to underpin the identification and classification of skills. This note is intended to be a starting point and set of considerations for policymakers who may be considering, or already embarking on, similar efforts to use ESCO or other taxonomical structures to help better analyze, understand and use skills-level information for decision making. It also seeks to motivate the need for additional classification systems that help governments take stock of its citizens skills in increasingly complex and rapidly changing labor markets.

Masiye Camp in Matopos National Park, and Kids’ Clubs in downtown Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, are examples of a growing number of programs in Africa and elsewhere that focus on the psychological and social needs of AIDS-affected children. Given the traumatic effects of grief, loss, and other hardships faced by these children, there is increasing recognition of the importance of programs to help them strengthen their social and emotional support systems. This Horizons Report describes findings from operations research in Zimbabwe and Rwanda that examines the psychosocial well-being of orphans and vulnerable children and ways to increase their ability to adapt and cope in the face of adversity. In these studies, a person’s psychosocial well-being refers to his/her emotional and mental state and his/her network of human relationships and connections. A total of 1,258 youth were interviewed. All were deemed vulnerable by their communities because they had been affected by HIV/AIDS and/or other factors such as severe poverty.

In October 2017, the Coordinating Board of the US Committee on the Marine Transportation System tasked the MTS Resilience Integrated Action Team to identify the impacts, best practices, and lessons learned by federal agencies during the 2017 hurricane season. The RIAT studied the resiliency of the MTS by targeting its ability to prepare, respond, recover, and adapt to and from disruptions by turning to the collective knowledge of its members. Utilizing interagency data calls and a targeted workshop, the RIAT gauged the disruptive effect of the 2017 hurricane season and how Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria affected the operating status of at least 45 US ports across three major regions. This report identifies recommendations to better understand how the MTS can prepare for future storms and identifies activities by federal agencies that are contributing towards resilience. Such actions include hosting early pre-storm preparedness meetings, prioritizing communication between agencies and information distribution, and maintaining or updating existing response plans. Recommendations also target challenges experienced such as telecommunication and prioritization assistance to ports and critical infrastructure. Finally, the report offers opportunities to minimize the impacts experienced from storms and other disruptions to enhance the resilience of the MTS and supporting infrastructure.

This working paper presents first insights on lay public perceptions of marine carbon dioxide removal (CDR) approaches. In seven focus groups, three in Germany and four in Norway (including one pilot) the researchers asked members of the lay public to share their views of the ocean and the effects of climate change, four CDR approaches, as well as their reflections on responsible research and innovation (RRI) of marine CDR. The four CDR methods were ocean iron fertilization, ocean alkalinity enhancement, artificial upwelling, and blue carbon management through restoration of coastal and marine ecosystems. In addition, respondents were asked to compare the four approaches. Our findings indicate that the public will be very supportive of blue carbon management irrespective of its actual carbon sequestration potential, due in part to the perceived bad state of marine ecosystems worldwide. Participants were skeptical whether any of the CDR approaches could have relevant effect on carbon sequestration and long-term storage; they reasoned about issues such as the ability to scale up treatments in time and space, unforeseen or unforeseeable effects on ecosystems in time and space, and the role of industry in the implementation process. They argued that despite the potential availability of marine CDR, industry and the general public should stop polluting behaviors and practices. Nevertheless, the participants universally agreed that further research on all four CDR methods should be pursued to better understand effects on climate, ecosystems, local communities, and the economy.

We conduct a randomized controlled trial in Mexico City to determine willingness to pay (WTP) for SMS air quality alerts and to study the effects of air quality alerts, reminders, and a reusable N95 mask on air pollution information and avoidance behavior. At baseline, we elicit WTP for the alerts service after revealing whether the household will receive an N95 mask and participant compensation, but before revealing whether they will receive alert or reminder services. While we observe no significant impact of mask provision on WTP, higher compensation increases WTP, suggesting a possible cash-on-hand constraint. The perception of high pollution days prior to the survey is positively correlated with WTP, but the presence of actual high pollution days is not correlated with WTP. Follow-up survey data demonstrate that the alerts treatment increases reporting of receiving air pollution information via SMS, a high pollution day in the past week, and staying indoors on the most recent perceived high pollution day. However, we observe no significant effect on the ability to correctly identify which specific days had high pollution. Similarly, households that received an N95 mask are more likely to report utilizing a mask with filter in the past two weeks, but we observe no effect on using a filter mask on the specific days with high particulate matter. Although we nd that air quality alerts increased the salience of air quality and avoidance behavior, these results illustrate the difficulty that information treatments face in overcoming perceptions to effectively reduce exposure to air pollution.
