The tasks referees must perform are both complex and very important, and are usually associated with high levels of stress. In this study, we aimed to understand the role of stress and cognitive appraisal on referees’ emotions and sports performance perception before the realization of a game. We adopted a critical incident methodology to understand how referees adapt to the stress related to their next game. The study included 708 football referees (646 males), aged between 18 and 53 (M = 26.81; SD = 7.32). We evaluated sources of stress, cognitive appraisal, emotions, and perception of individual performance. Regression analyses pointed out that stress was a main predictor of negative emotions, cognitive appraisal was a predictor of both negative and positive emotions, and that cognitive appraisal also contributed to comprehend the perception of individual performance. In sum, stress and appraisal are important factors to understand the stress experience of referees. This article proposes to reflect about the influence of the Fantastic Realism in Érico Verissimo's Incidente em Antares. To this end, the two necessary conditions are considered, according to TODOROV (1975), for the existence of the fantastic: first, the text must lead the reader to consider the world of characters as a world of living creatures and to hesitate between a natural explanation and a supernatural explanation of the fact; Second, the reader's hesitation must be identified with a particular character, so that the reader's perception is inscribed in the text as precisely as the character's movements are. The fantastic, in Verissimo's narrative, becomes relevant due to the historical context, its characteristics and its purpose. The fantastic is born in this uncertainty: to choose one or the other answer to the events narrated. This paper aims to present the origin of Fantastic Realism and its contributions in the work, identify its structure, in order to prove the relevance of the historical period for the establishment, given that it is established as a result of dictatorial periods, merging the real and the imaginary.

Objective: This study aimed to assess the potential incidence of low back pain (LBP) among sewers in the garment industry of PT. Dan Liris in Sukoharjo, Central Java Province-Indonesia. Theoretical framework: In this study, the independent variables include individual factors, work factors, awareness of LBP triggers, and perception of LBP. While the dependent variables include participation in anticipating LBP incidents and independence in controlling LBP incidents. Method: This study was conducted by taking a sample of 119 respondents who work as sewers through purposive random sampling from 4,000 workers of PT. Dan Liris. Results and conclusion: The results showed that individual factors, work factors, awareness of LBP triggers, and perceptions of LBP had a positive and significant effect on participatory attitudes in anticipating LBP. However, awareness of LBP triggers does not have a positive and significant effect on participatory attitudes in anticipating LBP. In addition, individual factors, perception of LBP, and one's participation in anticipating LBP incidents also have a positive and significant effect on one's independence in controlling LBP incidents. However, job factors and awareness of LBP triggers do not have a positive and significant effect on one's independence in controlling LBP incidents. Furthermore, the variable mediation of work factors and one's participation in anticipating LBP incidents strengthens the relationship between individual factors and one's independence in controlling LBP incidents. However, the mediating variables of awareness of LBP triggers and perception of LBP did not show a positive and significant relationship to one's independence in controlling LBP incidents. Originality/value: This study provides new insights into the factors that influence the incidence of LBP in sewers in the garment industry. The results of this study can be used to develop strategies for the prevention and control of LBP in the garment industry as well as increase the awareness of sewers about the importance of preventing LBP incidents.

This article examines how incidents are governed in a Belgian Nuclear Research Center by way of an incident reporting system (IRS) named Retour d’Experiences (REX). Drawing on a documentary analysis of incident reports, interviews, and focus groups with personnel, it illustrates how REX enacts a safety governmentality centered on identifying incident causes and culprits. As this governmentality mode obscures the epistemic and political character of incidents, it closes down important opportunities for collective learning about safety and safety governance. It is argued that joint reflection about incidents and resistances toward incident reporting serve as fruitful starting points for a more reflexive safety governance that makes explicit how decisions are made in high-risk contexts. Social scientists can enhance governance of this kind by pointing to different perceptions and evaluations of incidents and by insisting that contending interpretations are confronted and accounted for.

Behavior, practice and how to carry out safe tasks by workers and industrial personnel who exposure to injuries and incidents, Depending on their understanding of the real risks in the workplace. The empirical definition of risk is expressed by calculating the probability of an incident and the magnitude of the consequences of an incident. Employee perceptions of occupational risks have a significant impact on their safety behavior in the workplace. Therefore, research on risk perception is an issue that has attracted many researchers' attention. This descriptive-analytical study was carried out in the winter of 2017 on workers of 10 technical workshops of one of the steel companies of Khuzestan province. Risk perception of workers was assessed using risk perception questionnaire with Cronbach's alpha 0.73. One-way ANOVA, One Sample T-Test and Post Hoc test were used to analyze the data. All perceived risk scores for people were at acceptable levels. The category of individuals in the marital status had the highest score and the experience of the people was the lowest score. Among demographics specification, only education is associated with an average risk perception score. The present study shows that none of the individuals' personal characteristics have a direct and positive impact on risk perception. In order to increase the level of risk perception of workers, planning and developing continuous training programs should be used.

Purpose : This study sought to explore intensive care unit (ICU) nurses’ perceptions regarding the disclosure of patient safety incidents (DPSI) and identify the relationship between the perception of DPSI and communication barriers. Methods : This study used a descriptive research design. A total of 110 ICU nurses from a tertiary hospital were surveyed online between September 14 and October 5, 2022. The mean DPSI score ranged between 1.0 and 4.0, with a higher score indicating a higher perception of DPSI.Results : The mean score for ICU nurses’ perceptions of DPSI was 2.92 (SD=0.37). Among the characteristics of ICU nurses, differences were observed in perceptions of DPSI according to gender, age, total work experience, and ICU work experience. Communication barriers among ICU nurses were negatively correlated with negative results as a sub-factor of perceptions of DPSI. Ambiguity in the nurse’s position, lack of confidence, differences in perspectives with patients, and inadequate nurse-patient relationships as sub-factors of communication barriers exhibited a negative correlation with negative results as a sub-factor of perceptions of DPSI.Conclusions : ICU nurses’ perceptions of DPSI and the sub-factors related to communication barriers are negatively related to DPSI. To improve ICU nurses’ perceptions, open and non-punitive circumstances, staff education, practical guidelines, and support systems are required.

Abstract This paper reports findings from interviews with practicing public librarians in Aotearoa New Zealand. It details respondent understanding of influences on perception and behaviour, and critical incidents as they relate to librarian professional identity. In-depth semi-structed interviews were conducted with forty practicing public librarians. Interviews were analysed with an inductive approach. Findings report on sample tendencies of dominant influences on practitioners’ perception and behaviour, impacting professional identity development over time. Dominant influences are respondent understanding of the strongest aspect they understand to influence their professional identity for both their individual perception of their professional identity and social factors influencing their professional behaviour. Findings also report on the identity negotiation process prompted by critical incidents, whose criticality is reliant on individual perception of incident in relation to professional identity. This process outlines affective response to the critical incident as a gateway to identity negotiations, leading to a discovery and/or growth of an identity facet, which will either affirm or undermine identity understanding. This process may be iterative, as meaning ascribed to the incident may change over time. Three theoretical propositions are presented articulating the role of dominant influences and critical incidents on identity negotiations of public librarian professional identity.

BackgroundDisaster response and emergency preparedness has taken a bigger role in our daily operations since the advent of events of September 11 2001. It is essential that nurses be prepared and trained to respond to disaster incidents. Nonetheless, we are largely unaware of how our nurses feel about their readiness to respond to these disaster incidents. This study aims to understand our nurses' knowledge, skills and perception towards disaster response and emergency preparedness.MethodA self administered structured questionnaire survey was conducted for the nurses in our hospital. Using a 5 point Likert scale, the questionnaire covered knowledge, skills and perception of institutional and individual preparedness towards a disaster incident. The data was analyzed using SPSS 17.ResultsA convenient sample of 1143 nurses (response rate 95.5%) was studied over a 2-month period from 1st August to 30th September 2010. 55.7% of the surveyed nurses have not attended any training in disaster response. Despite that, more than 50% of them scored correctly in term of their knowledge in different types of disaster incidents. 75.3% of them have not been trained to don the HAZMET suite within the last 2 years. 72.9% do not know where to get the HAZMET suit in the event of a chemical incident. While 80.2% felt that the institution is able to respond to any disaster incident, only 41.3% felt that they were ready. In addition, 83.6% were willing to participate in future disaster incident response training. 77.1% agreed that being able to respond to a disaster incident should be part of their professional competency.ConclusionsThere is a need for the hospital to incorporate disaster preparedness into nursing education curriculum as a clinical core skill to ensure that nurses are ready to respond to disaster incidents.

Purpose – Motor-vehicle-related events (MVEs) are the leading cause of on-duty death for law enforcement officers, yet little is known about how officers view this significant job hazard. The purpose of this paper is to explore officers’ motor-vehicle risk perception and examine how prior on-duty MVEs and the death or injury of a fellow officer influences this perception. Design/methodology/approach – A state-wide random sample of 136 law enforcement agencies was drawn using publically accessible databases, stratified on type and size of agency. In total, 60 agencies agreed to participate and a cross-sectional questionnaire was distributed to 1,466 officers. Using six-point Likert scales, composite scores for motor-vehicle and intentional violence risk perception were derived. A linear regression multivariable model was used to examine factors affecting motor-vehicle risk perception. Findings – Motor-vehicle risk perception scores were significantly higher than intentional violence scores. A prior on-duty motor-vehicle crash, prior roadside incident, or knowledge of fellow officer’s injury or death from a MVE significantly increased motor-vehicle risk perception scores. After controlling for potential confounders though, only prior on-duty crashes and roadside incidents impacted motor-vehicle risk perception. Research limitations/implications – The study comprised primarily small, rural agencies and generalizability may be limited. Also, although the data were collected anonymously, reporting and response biases may affect these findings. Originality/value – This study involved a large and diverse cohort of officers and explored motor-vehicle risk perception. A better understanding of officers’ risk perceptions will assist in the development and implementation of occupational injury prevention programs, training, and policy.

Context Although catastrophic injuries are rare, athletic trainers must be ready for emergencies. It is unknown how athletic training students (ATSs) are prepared for postcritical incident management. Objective To explore the perceived availability and helpfulness of resources available to ATSs after critical incidents. Design Qualitative. Setting Individual interviews. Patients or Other Participants Eleven current ATSs and/or recent graduates (5 women, 4 men, and 2 prefer to not share; age = 24 ± 4 years) who experienced a critical incident during clinical education. Data Collection and Analysis We used criterion sampling for recruiting participants in multiple modes until data saturation was achieved. Participants completed demographic surveys and participated in semistructured interviews regarding their involvement, resources available after the incident, and perceived helpfulness of the resources. All transcripts were deidentified and coded by a 3-person team following the consensual qualitative research tradition. Member checking, triangulation, external auditing, and peer discussion among researchers established credibility and trustworthiness for the analysis. Results Three domains emerged strategies acquired before the incident, management during the incident, and postincident regulation of a review of the resources that had been available. In strategies acquired before the incident, participants described that program preparation, previous personal/clinical experiences, and self-regulating mental health strategies all assisted in managing emotions after the incident. During the incident and the time immediately after, participants discussed managing emotions with formal debriefing, sound policies and procedures, and communication with athletic training faculty and peers. After the incident, some noted that they had an abundance of resources available to them during the critical incident, whereas others noted feeling isolated. Conclusions ATSs have resources available to them and an awareness of the impact critical incidents have on mental well-being. They relied on convenient coping mechanisms (eg, peers, preceptors, or faculty debrief) rather than formal counseling. Athletic training programs should provide students with resources and support before and after incidents.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to conceptualize error reporting as a strategy for informal workplace learning and investigate nurses’ error reporting cost/benefit evaluations and associated behaviors. Design/methodology/approach A longitudinal survey study was carried out in a hospital setting with two measurements (time 1 [t1]: implementation of a critical incident reporting (CIR) system; t2: three months after t1). Correlational and hierarchical cluster analyses were used to interpret the data. Findings Positive cost-benefit correlations and negative cross-correlations were found, with no substantial changes over time. “Reporters” and “learners” were differentiated regarding error-reporting behaviors. Cost-benefit perceptions predicted membership in the “reporters” group; perception of effort costs negatively predicted an error-reporting preference. Research limitations/implications This study was limited, in that only a questionnaire was used to collect data. Practical implications Stressing the benefits of CIR systems should contribute to reducing employees’ perception of reporting costs; thus, ease of use is a critical factor in CIR system use. Originality/value The study empirically probes a well-established theoretical model, and various ideas for further research are suggested.

Lockdown during the Covid-19 pandemic caused changes in the perception of hunger, satiety and increased eating behavior in people around the world. As many as 48% of people feel their weight has increased. The increase in the incidence of obesity is inevitable. Obesity is widely associated with poor body image. This study wanted to explore differences in BMI and body image perceptions between men and women and the correlation between body image perceptions and nutritional status. This research is an analytical observational using a cross sectional design. The study took a population of adults living in Pancur Village, Mayong, Jepara with purposive sampling technique. Correlation test using Spearman's rank and (r) to see the strength of the relationship between body image perception and BMI. While the independent t-test to see differences in perception and BMI in adult men and women. The results of the Independent t-test showed that there were differences in body image perceptions for men and women, there were differences in BMI for men and women (p<0.05), and the Spearman rank test had a positive correlation between body image perceptions and BMI Nutritional status. (p<0.0009). Adult men and women have different perceptions of body image and nutritional status. Adult women are more concerned about the perception of their body image for themselves and in the eyes of others than adult men. The better the perception of body image, the closer the nutritional status to normal.

This study investigates multilevel differences in safety climate (SC) perception dimensions between management and laborers on Taiwanese construction sites. With Taiwan’s high rate of construction site safety incidents, implementing successful safety strategies requires understanding differences in SC perceptions between management and laborers. This study used a structured SC questionnaire with responses from 74 managers and 261 laborers. The analysis of collected data includes (1) descriptive statistics comparing the selected dimensions; (2) Pearson correlation analysis examining relationships between SC perception dimensions; (3) t-test and one-way ANOVA to assess relationships between the respondent’s background and SC perception dimensions; and (4) Post-Tukey comparison analysis to compare the SC perception differences between management and laborers. The results indicate that management-level staff show a higher degree of SC perception than laborer-level staff. This level of SC perception varies between individual dimensions. The strongest convergence between the two groups is observed in the dimension of ‘workmate care of each other’, and the greatest divergence is found in ‘risk decision making’. Previous studies regarding SC perception in Taiwan specifically focus on construction workers and neglect the differences in perception between management and laborers. The outcomes of this study contribute to the understanding of multilevel SC perceptions, which can be used in the development of targeted strategies to improve SC on construction sites.

Background: Tutorial group discussion is one of the key features of problem based learning. The tutor-facilitated group discussion is not always work as planned. Critical incident during tutorial is one of the factors that may hinder group dynamics. Six factors hindering group dynamics (unequal participation, lack of cohesion, lack of motivation, lack of elaboration, lack of interaction, and personality problem), play role in critical incidents during tutorial. Tutor’s and students’ perception on critical incidents are affected by each individual point of view on the incidents. The point of view will influence intervention expected by students and actual intervention done by tutor. Tutor’s capability to do proper intervention is one of the factors needed to ensure group discussion to progress well. The aim of this research is to identify students and tutors perception on critical incidents during tutorial and types of intervention done by tutor to overcome these incidents.Method: This is a mixed-method research which combines quantitative and qualitative approaches. 352 students of 4 batches and 21 tutors involved in this research. Students and tutors’ perception on critical incidents were collected using questionnaire consist of 36 Likert-scale items, and 2 open-ended questions. Intervention done by tutors was further explored using focus group discussion with tutor and students, based on quantitative result. Results: Similar perception were found in both students and tutors regarding the factors influenced critical incidents during tutorial the most, which was unequal participation. Nevertheless, different perception was found between students and tutors on factor that hindered discussion which require tutor intervention; students with difficult personality, whereas tutors stated participation imbalance. The other five factors: tutor’s factors, feedback, assessment, quality of scenario, logistics, and scheduling issue were found to have role in critical incidents in tutorial. Tutor’s intervention to critical incidents had been done, even so, further development is needed. Conclusion: Students’ and tutors’ perception on critical incidents were in line in term of the most frequent incidents, but differ in factor that hinder discussion the most and require tutor’s intervention. There were many other factors that influenced critical incidents besides students’ factors. Interventions which had been done by tutors were not adequate in order to overcome arising critical incidents.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention published two Radiological Terrorism Toolkits: Public Health Officials (PHTK) and Emergency Services Clinicians (ESCTK). The study consisted of training public health workers and Medical Reserve Corps volunteers to rate 10 distinct virtual survivors each and route them through a Community Reception Center (CRC) pretraining and post-training. The training's effect on the rater's radiation medical knowledge and willingness to respond (WTR) was also measured. Correctly routed survivors increased from a baseline 3.6-5.3, of 10 survivors per rater for the PHTK, and to 5.7 for the ESCTK (p = 0.000). Medical knowledge increased from a baseline of 50 percent to 66.7 percent for the PHTK (nine raters) and to 71.4 percent for the ESCTK (seven raters) (p = 0.000). WTR regardless of severity increased from 34.8 percent to 54.4 percent for the PHTK (p = 0.046). Odds of correctly routing survivors decreased with perception of confidence (0.569, 95% CI 0.375-0.863), while perceptions of preparedness (2.1, 1.4-3.2) and prior training increased the odds (1.8, 1.05-3.16). When taking into account raters unwillingness to respond, the odds of correctly routing survivors decreased with perceptions of confidence in detector use (0.556, 0.365-0.846), with confidence to process persons through a CRC (0.390, 0.215-0.709), and by training with the ESCTK (0.252, 0.12-0.53), while perceptions of preparedness (18.7, 8.4-41.6), and demonstrated medical knowledge (20, 3.26-122) increased ability to correctly route survivors. These findings support the local use of PHTK training to develop surge capacity for a radiological emergency and suggest the interaction between the level of confidence and medical knowledge be studied further.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, maternal and neonatal death still becomes a challenging issue in Indonesia, especially since there was a social restriction on maternal and newborn health services. Pregnant women are advised to perform a pregnancy check-up during the pandemic, but most are reluctant due to afraid of being infected with the virus. The health belief model is used to analyze the assessment of individual health actions. The study aimed to determine the relation of the health belief model in antenatal examinations during the covid-19 pandemic. This research was a quantitative study with a cross-sectional approach. The population was whole pregnant women in the Dukuhwaru Health Center as many as 208 people. About 53 people sample recruited using accidental sampling techniques. Independent variables include perceptions of vulnerability, perceptions of seriousness, perception of threats, perception of benefits, perception of obstacles, and cues to action, while the dependent variables are the regularity of pregnant women in conducting antenatal care examinations. Data was collected through questionnaires and analyzed using Fisher's Exact test. The results showed that there was a relationship between the perception of seriousness (p=0.03), perception of threat (p=0.000), and perception of obstacles (p=0.04) with the regularity of antenatal checks. However, there was no significant correlation between perception of susceptibility (p=0.46), perception of benefit (p=0.07), and cues for action (p=1) to the regularity of antenatal checks. 3 out of 6 of the health belief model factors were related to the regularity of antenatal checks. The regularity of antenatal visits on the incidence of Covid-19 needs to be explored in subsequent studies.

Decision making is conditioned by relevant information. This information very seldom has reliable numerical representation. Usually, decision-relevant information is perception-based. A question arises of how to proceed from perception-based information to a corresponding mathematical formalism. When perception-based information is expressed in natural language, the fuzzy set theory can be used as a corresponding mathematical formalism for decision analysis. However, perception-based decision-relevant information is not always sufficiently clear to be modeled by means of membership functions. In contrast, it remains at a level of some cloud images which are difficult to be caught by words. This imperfect information caught in perceptions cannot be precisiated by numbers or fuzzy sets and is referred to as unprecisiated information. Humans are able to make decisions based on unprecisiated visual perceptions. Modeling of this outstanding capability, even to some limited extent, becomes a difficult yet a highly promising research area. In this study, we use fuzzy geometry and the extended fuzzy logic to cope with uncertain situations coming with unprecisiated information. In this approach, the objects of computation and reasoning are geometric primitives which model human perceptions when the latter cannot be defined in terms of membership functions. For this aim, the fuzzified axioms of the incidence geometry are used. An approach to decision making with outcomes and probabilities described by geometrical primitives is developed. Examples of application of the approach to decision making on a short term investment decision and marketing decision are given. The obtained results prove the validity of the suggested approach.

Needle stick injury (NSI) is one of the major causes of blood borne infections in the present day healthcare system. Among healthcare professionals, nursing students will most likely be exposed to this dilemma. Interventions like institutionalizing educational programs to produce awareness and knowledge among nurses can depict positive outcomes in changing perceptions toward safety measures. This study aimed to investigate the incidence, perspectives, views, perceptions, and knowledge of NSIs among nursing students studying at Al-Hussein Bin Talal University. The sample population consisted of all undergraduate nursing students from second to fourth academic levels at the university who consented to participate in this study. The mode of data collection utilized a self-structured questionnaire apportioned into four parts. The first portion of the questionnaire presented the socio-demographic details of the respondents. The second part of the questionnaire demonstrated questions about needle stick incidences at the clinical units of the participants; frequency of occurrences (i.e., number, nature, and rationale); place of occurrence; and, whether the event was reported to higher authorities. The third part of the questionnaire entailed queries associated with the knowledge of the students with respect to needle stick injury. The last part focused on the student's knowledge and perception on the risks associated to needle sticks injuries and the relative precautions to prevent such. The results showed that most of the students had positive perception of NSIs; while two thirds of the student nurses experienced NSI with increasing number of injured nurses occurring among second year students. This is due to the lack of knowledge regarding universal precaution guidelines and acupuncture safety device. Nursing students are at risks of getting infection. Proper steps are needed to promote awareness of NSI as well as the dangers and prevention from such events.

The aim of the study was to examine reciprocal associations between risk perceptions for cardiovascular disease and health behaviors (i.e., physical activity, fruit/vegetable consumption), while accounting for key personality characteristics in middle-aged adults. Participants (N = 297; M (SD) age = 51 (6.95); 72.4% female) completed online questionnaires assessing risk perceptions, physical activity, fruit/vegetable consumption, and personality (conscientiousness and neuroticism) on two occasions, one week apart. Physical activity did not have a statistically significant effect on risk perception over time (b = −0.00, p = 0.227). However, fruit and vegetable consumption (b = −0.19, p = 0.006) and neuroticism (b = 0.22, p = 0.001) predicted risk perception. Risk perception did not have a significant effect on physical activity (b = −343.86, p = 0.147) or fruit/vegetable consumption (b = −0.08, p = 0.144) over time; however, neuroticism had significant and negative effects on physical activity (b = −520.84, p = 0.029) and fruit/vegetable consumption (b = −0.20, p = 0.001). High levels of neuroticism in middle age may hinder engagement in physical activity and consumption of fruit/vegetable behaviors and should therefore be targeted accordingly to increase protective health behaviors and reduce incidence of cardiovascular disease.

Background: Indonesia has not resolved tuberculosis burden since its prevalence and incidence has remained high. As the capital of Indonesia with a large population and a high number of tuberculosis cases, Jakarta has a distinctive condition of tuberculosis burden. This study aimed to obtain social determinants of knowledge and perception of pulmonary tuberculosis in an urban community. Methods: This study used 2,323 samples taken by random sampling in Jakarta during February-May 2011. Questionnaires were delivered to assess respondents’ knowledge and perception about pulmonary tuberculosis. Levels of knowledge were categorized into ‘poor’ and ‘good’. Perceptions about tuberculosis were measured by whether respondents perceived tuberculosis as a humiliating disease and a shunned disease. Results: Most respondents (88.7%) had good level of knowledge about tuberculosis, but misperception remained high (45.9%) in the community. Education level determined level of knowledge. The higher the education level the lower the risk of lack of knowledge. Tuberculosis perceptions were determined by family income and education level. Higher family income and education level were protective factors of misperception about tuberculosis as a humiliating disease and tendency to shun tuberculosis patients. Conclusion: People in urban area of Jakarta have good level of knowledge about tuberculosis, but it does not necessarily lead to proper perception of tuberculosis. Age, education level and having health insurance determined level of knowledge, while tuberculosis perceptions were determined much more by education level and family income. Tuberculosis control program should consider these determinants prior to developing a comprehensive strategy.

Objective: Matching safety and quality improvements to the complexity of healthcare, Gold Coast Mental Health and Specialist Services implemented a new response to clinical incidents: the Gold Coast Clinical Incident Response Framework (GC-CIRF). It utilises a Restorative Just Culture (RJC) framework and Safety II principles. This paper evaluates its impact. Methods: Staff surveys measured perceptions of just culture and second victim experiences. Quality of recommendations were compared before and after implementation. For the 19 incidents that occurred after the implementation of GC-CIRF, audits of the review processes were undertaken, measuring several components. Results: Results show significant improvement in staff perceptions of just culture and second victim experiences. Review of incident review data showed several shifts in line with Safety II and RJC. The process audit demonstrated inclusion of a broad range of stakeholders, and significant improvements in the quality and strength of recommendations. Conclusions: Embedding RJC and Safety II concepts into the incident review process is associated with improved measures of culture and review outputs. The integration of Safety II concepts and support of cultural shifts will require further work and committed leadership at all levels.

The Australia and New Zealand College of Perfusionists’ (ANZCP) Perfusion Incident Reporting System was established in 1998 and has evolved to an open access on-line incident perfusion reporting system (PIRS-2). Changes were made to PIRS-2 to promote learning from what went well in unexpected situations. A 9-question survey was e-mailed to the PIRS-2 contact group to elicit feedback on attitudes to voluntarily reporting perfusion-related incidents and near-miss events to PIRS-2. In August 2019, a 9-question survey using SurveyMonkey® (San Mateo Ca) was e-mailed to 198 perfusionists currently on the ANZCP PIRS-2 e-mail contacts group. Responses for all responding practicing perfusionists were totaled and expressed as a percentage of the total number of respondents. The respondents were then grouped by region and responses were expressed as a percentage of respondents from each region as well as for grouped responses from Australia/New Zealand (ANZ) and non-ANZ respondents. The response rate was 49.5% with 95 practicing perfusionists completing the survey. In the 12 months before the survey, 22% of respondents had submitted reports to PIRS-2, whereas 79% had read e-mailed reports. Unit culture was the most frequently cited barrier to reporting from all respondents (19%; 0% to 40% by region). Twenty-five percentage of Australian respondents cited unit culture as a barrier to reporting vs. 0% of New Zealand respondents. A combination of concern of discovery and identification of region ranked second as a barrier for 17% of all respondents. The open access ANZCP PIRS-2 voluntary incident reporting in perfusion was widely viewed as relevant and beneficial to both individual practice and to team performance. A high likelihood to considering reporting incidents is tempered by the well-established barriers of ease of the reporting system, the fix and forget phenomenon, concerns of discovery, and a defensive unit culture.

This paper aims to identify the critical dominant incidents and key instigators that influence on usage or lack of usage of e-ticketing by Kosovo Air Passengers. The research at hand utilizes the Grounded Theory of Barney Glaser and Anselm Strauss, and the Critical Incident Technique in order to identify the factors that influence on the (diss) satisfaction of the travellers in using e-ticketing. For the purpose of this paper, the empirical data were gathered through interviews by using open ended questions. Among 93 interviews with the random selected passengers, 13 interviews were deemed as invalid. The empirical results highlighted the need for raising the consciousness regarding the efficacy and the advantages of eticketing. On the other hand, many other passengers cannot conceive the possibility of travelling without use of e-ticketing, given that in the past they spent much time in finding the right agent, desired destination, purchase difficulties in making reservation, confirmation, changes, or they had to carry large amounts of cash money to buy tickets which raised insecurity concerns.Research is limited only to the description of critical incidents that occurred in Prishtina International Airport. Majority of the respondents were highly-educated with high income status. These characteristics create a bias and constrain our ability to extrapolate from the findings. Nevertheless, the study serves as a point for more in-depth analysis and discussion on e-ticketing behaviour in Airline industry.

Recent research on motion perception indicates that when we view actions in slow-motion, the perceived degree of intent behind those actions can increase. Slow-motion replays are widely used in the checking and review of refereeing decisions by video assistant referees (VAR) in association football. To test whether the decisions of referees are subject to such a bias, 80 elite English professional football officials made decisions about 60 incidents recorded in professional European leagues (recorded as fouls, yellow-card offences or red-card offences by the on-field referee). Both real-time (1×) and slow-motion (0.25×) playback speeds were used. Participants had no prior knowledge of the incidents, playback speeds or disciplinary sanctions relating to each clip. Three judgements were made about each incident: extent of contact, degree of intent, and disciplinary sanction. Results showed an effect of playback speed on decision-making, but not a consistent bias due to slow-motion. Instead the distinction between yellow-card and red-card offences was clearer: Under slow-motion, yellow-card incidents were judged as less severe, and red-card incidents are judged as more severe, thus enhancing the distinction between these offences. These results are inconsistent with previous scientific reports that perceived intent is heightened by slow video playback speed.

Numerous food safety incidents have gained public attention and motivated consumers to seek safer and healthier products. Some governments have responded by enacting legislation to regulate the traceability of agricultural products and enhance food safety. To elucidate factors that affect consumers’ health and safety perceptions and repurchase intention for certified traceable fresh food, this study applied institutional trust theory to explore the effects of institutional trust (i.e., trust in government, certification organizations, producers, and retailers) on consumers’ food safety and health perceptions and repurchase intention. This study was conducted in Taiwan and enrolled 393 consumers who purchased certified traceable fresh food as survey participants. Structural equation modeling and multiple and stepwise regression analysis were performed for data analysis. The results indicated that trust in government, certification organizations, food producers, and food retailers was positively related to food safety perception; trust in certification organizations, food producers, and food retailers directly influenced food healthiness perception, whereas trust in government did not have a direct influence. Furthermore, trust in certification organizations and food producers influenced repurchase intention, whereas trust in government and food retailers did not. Based on these results, the current study provides some practical suggestions for traceable fresh food marketers to use institutional trust to improve consumers’ food health and safety perceptions and repurchase intention.

AbstractIntroductionHealth care institutions constantly must be prepared for disaster response. However, there are deficiencies in the current level of preparedness. The aim of this study was to investigate the factors affecting the perception of health care workers (HCWs) towards individual and institutional preparedness for a disaster.MethodsA survey on disaster incident preparedness was conducted among doctors, nurses, and allied health workers over a period of two months in 2010. The survey investigated perceptions of disaster preparedness at the individual and institutional level. Responses were measured using a five-point Likert scale. The primary outcomes were factors affecting HCWs’ perception of institution and individual preparedness. Secondary outcomes were the proportions of staff willing to participate and to place importance on disaster response training and their knowledge of access to such training. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics. Logistic regression was performed to determine the factors that influenced the HCWs’ perception of their individual and institutional readiness. Odd ratios (ORs) of such factors were reported with their 95% confidence intervals (CIs).ResultsOf 1700 HCWs, 1534 (90.2%) completed the survey. 75.3% (1155/1534) felt that the institution was ready for a disaster incident, but only 36.4% (558/1534) felt that they (as individuals) were prepared. Some important factors associated with a positive perception of institution preparedness were leadership preparedness (OR = 13.19; 95% CI, 9.93-17.51), peer preparedness (OR = 6.11; 95% CI, 4.27-8.73) and availability of training opportunities (OR = 4.76; 95% CI, 3.65-6.22). Some important factors associated with a positive perception of individual preparedness were prior experience in disaster response (OR = 2.80; 95% CI, 1.99-3.93), institution preparedness (OR = 3.71; 95% CI, 2.68-5.14), peer preparedness (OR = 3.49; 95% CI, 2.75-4.26), previous training in disaster response (OR = 3.48; 95% CI, 2.76-4.39) and family support (OR = 3.22; 95% CI, 2.54-4.07). Most (80.7%, 1238/1534) were willing to participate in future disaster incident response training, while 74.5% (1143/1534) felt that being able to respond to a disaster incident constitutes part of their professional competency. However, only 27.8% (426/1534) knew how to access these training opportunities.ConclusionsThis study demonstrated that HCWs fare poorly in their perception of their individual preparedness. Important factors that might contribute to improving this perception at the individual and institution level have been identified. These factors could guide the review and implementation of future disaster incident response training in health care institutions.LimGH, LimBL, VasuA. Climate change and climate variability drive rapid glacier melt and snowpack loss, extreme precipitation and temperature events, and alteration of water availability in the Himalayas. There is increasing observational evidence of climate change impacts on water resource availability and agricultural productivity in the central Himalayan region. Here, we assess the farmers’ perception of climate change and its impacts on agriculture in western Nepal. We interviewed 554 households and conducted eight focus group discussions to collect farmers’ perceptions of temperature and rainfall characteristics, water availability, onset and duration of different seasons, and the impacts of such changes on their lives and livelihoods. Our results indicate that the farmers’ perceptions of rising annual and summer temperatures are consistent with observations. Perception, however, contradicts observed trends in winter temperature, as well as annual, monsoon, and winter precipitation. In addition, farmers are increasingly facing incidences of extreme events, including rainfall, floods, landslides, and droughts. These hazards often impact agricultural production, reducing household income and exacerbating the economic impacts on subsistence farmers. Integrated assessment of farmers’ perceptions and hydrometeorological observations is crucial to improving climate change impact assessment and informing the design of mitigation and adaptation strategies.

Introduction: In the recent years, woven bag companies have taken a step forward from traditional labor intensive work practices to technological assistance which is operated by workers. Nevertheless, the increased production capability and capacity with assistance of the machineries has been known to cause significant Occupational Safety and Health concerns as having been reported in various previous studies. Therefore, this research aimed to determine the relationship between perception of exposure to hazards and OSH incidents taking into consideration the work shift of the operators. Methods: This research was an analytical observational study with cross-sectional design. There was a total of 67 operators being the population of this study, 53 of whom were recruited as respondents using simple random sampling. The instruments that were used in this research were questionnaires about individual characterization, perception of work environment and work incidents. Variable testing was performed using contingency coefficient. Results: There was a relationship between the complaint towards the noise and the work incident in the morning and afternoon shift. Based on the measurement of the noise, the value was high in the morning of 100dBA, while in the afternoon the value was 91dBA and at night the value was 92 dBA. For the variable of dry temperature, there was a relationship between the complaint towards the dry temperature and the work incident, which showed that in the morning, the dry temperature was 33.1oC. Conclusion: High noise and dry temperature exposure value had a relationship with the work incident on the operators of a Woven Bag Company. Keywords: dry temperature, noise, shift worker, work incident

Extending the recent theorizing of the message-centric approach to instructional risk and crisis communication, this study identifies two distinct instructional strategies used by regulatory authorities and adopts a goal-attainment approach to measuring the effectiveness of both strategies in instructing nonscientific publics about impending risks. Specifically, we conducted a quasi-experiment immediately after a substandard vaccine incident in China to examine the differential effects of regulators’ instructional press releases on stakeholders’ risk perceptions and behavioral intentions. We found that the explanation-focused buffering strategy is significantly more effective in both heightening individuals’ cognitive risk perception and reducing their affective risk perception, while the personalization-focused bridging strategy shows more effectiveness in sustaining individuals’ intention to consume and positively evaluate domestic vaccines. Additionally, the findings highlight the need to tailor instructional message strategies to regulatory organizations’ ultimate goals of communication activities. Practical implications for government regulators and risk communicators are also discussed.

Introduction: Workers in the maintenance and repair division's shipping division work in outdoor physical environments, which get hot temperatures from the environment. They cause excessive sweating while working and can cause dehydration if not drinking enough water. Methods: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between drinking habits and work climate perception with dehydration status in shipping companies' workers. The research method was analytic observational, with a cross-sectional design in 2019 in one of the shipping companies with a sample size of 49 workers who were selected using simple random sampling from 55 worker populations. The independent variables included respondent characteristics, drinking water consumption habits, and work climate perceptions, while the dependent variable was dehydration status. Dehydration status among workers was measured base on the specific gravity of urine measured in the laboratory, and the working climate was measured using a heat stress monitor. Result: The results showed that 85.71% of workers had minimum dehydration status, and 14.29% had significant dehydration. Then, there was a meaningful relationship between drinking water habits and dehydration status (r = -0.320 and p = 0.025). There was also a relationship between workers' work climate perceptions and dehydration status (r = -0.283 and p = 0.049). Conclusion: The relationship showed a weak negative meaning that the less habit of drinking water among workers, the higher the dehydration status of the workers. The more disturbed they perceive the working climate; the less dehydrated status of workers will be. So it can be ignored that there were drinking habits and the work climate perceptions with dehydrated status in shipping companies' workers. Keywords: dehydration status, drinking habits, work climate perceptions.

The Leader-Member exchange (LMX) theory of leadership states that leaders do behave differently towards the various members in their work unit. Relatively little attention has been devoted to the question of whether members' perceptions of differential treatment on the part of the leader affects their commitment to the work unit. Perceptions of the amount of differential treatment within their work unit did not explain additional variance in members' work unit commitment after the effects of LMX quality were accounted for. There was, however, a significant interaction effect of LMX quality and differential treatment on work unit commitment. The perception of a large number of differential treatment incidents seems to act as a neutralizer with respect to the positive effects LMX quality may have.

Perceptions of crime do not necessarily reflect its realities. The leading works in Anglo-American criminology have focused on this asymmetry between perceptions and realities of crime. Although Japanese academics have conducted sporadic studies on the fear of crime, this area of research has not yet reached a mature stage. The public perception of Japan as a safe and secure country might explain this lack of research. At present, most people do not think of crime as common in their communities. The mass media, however, has focused on topical incidents of crime as representations of change in community order. Complex mechanisms function in and out of the community that should be explored to advance serious study on the fear of crime in Japan.

The incidence of Covid-19 cases continues to increase from day to day so that health workers as the front line are increasingly stressed due to the increasing workload, worrying about their health, and families who have an impact on health workers will experience increased anxiety. The perception of health workers about COVID-19 is closely related to the level of anxiety. A positive perception of a disease will experience mild anxiety. A negative perception of a disease can also make the level of anxiety higher. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between perception and level of anxiety. The research design is quantitative analytic with a cross-sectional approach. Sampling using purposive sampling with a sample of 65 respondents. Data analysis using Pearson product moment correlation test. The results showed the significance value of perception with anxiety level was 0.084 (> 0.05). The results showed that there was no relationship between the perceptions of nurses at Karsa Husada Batu General Hospital about Covid-19 and anxiety. This is supported by nurses' perceptions of Covid-19 being in the moderate category, while nurses' anxiety about Covid-19 is in the moderate category. This means that nurses perceive Covid-19 as a flu that does not need to be feared. In addition, the high level of education and knowledge of nurses, the experience of nurses, the readiness of the Karsa Husada Batu Hospital in facing the maximum Covid-19 pandemic in the form of the application of 3M, the availability of adequate PPE greatly affects the perception and anxiety of nurses about COVID-19. For further researchers, it is hoped that they can conduct further research on the factors that can affect anxiety about Covid-19. It is also necessary to do similar research with other variables with additional measurements.

Mental models – internal representations of the external world – influence perception and decision making. An inappropriate mental model of a roller coaster contributed to one injury and one death in a roller coaster incident. This study revealed that participants' mental models represented the oldest and most prevalent type of roller coaster, despite the existence of several different types. Investigating mental models of users involved in injury incidents often reveals how such incidents occur. To prevent inaccurate mental models from leading users into hazardous situations, product and system designers should follow product safety guidelines to eliminate or reduce the hazards.
