In Civil and Mechanical Engineering, vibrations of structures are one of the risks of damage of a structure and can involve serious consequences, sometimes without comparison with the implementation of the suitable means of prevention. Thus, the dynamic study of structures is a stage impossible to circumvent in the development phase of a project. Passive control of vibrations, i. E. Control without the need for providing an external energy, became a true stake. Passive control of vibrations can be performed through the energy pumping phenomenon. Energy pumping is the irreversible transfer of vibrational energy from a main structure, which must be protected against external disturbances, to a coupled, essentially nonlinear, auxiliary structure, which is very light. The principle which is involved is the localization of nonlinear normal modes allowing strong vibrations of the added structure and very small vibrations of the primary structure. The phenomenon is first studied during non-stationary regime, and then during stationary regime. An optimisation of both energy pumping and parameters of the system is performed in order to apply it to real structures. Experimental verifications are carried out on reduced-scale building models

Dans une première partie nous faisons apparaître l'importance des corrélations entre vitesse et orientation nucléaire pour les atomes excités présents dans le plasma et soumis à la lumière de pompage optique à 1083 nm. Nous avons étudié leur effet sur l'efficacité du pompage optique tant au moyen d'un modèle détaillé que par des mesures expérimentales systématiques. Nous montrons la grande importance des caractéristiques spectrales fines des lasers à 1083 nm.
Dans la deuxième partie, nous nous intéressons plus spécifiquement à des conditions non standard de pompage optique, en présence d'un fort champ magnétique et à forte pression. Nous avons réalisé une étude spectroscopique détaillée de l'effet Zeeman de la transition à 1083 nm de l'hélium qui permet d'identifier précisément les positions de ces transitions et leurs intensités, ce qui nous a permis de mettre au point une technique originale de mesure
optique de la polarisation nucléaire en champ quelconque. Nous avons démontré que la présence de lumière à 1083 nm augmente significativement la population de molécules métastables au sein d'un plasma d'hélium, en particulier à forte pression.

The aim of the work presented in this thesis is to contribute to the study of a photovoltaic system operating at its maximum power and energetically autonomous. The case studied in this thesis relates to the control of a chain of photovoltaic pumping in an isolated site. In this sense and for the PV system operates at its maximum power, it must include a converter associated with a MPPT algorithm. In our study, we used two MPPT algorithms, the algorithm “Perturb and Observe” (P & O), then the algorithm “Increment of Conductance” (IncCond). In some industrial applications, it is sometimes necessary to maintain the voltage delivered by the PV system constant. For this, a control system of this voltage is presented. The methods used for the simulation of this system are based on the use of a PID controller and the sliding mode control, and finally a fuzzy logic controller. This system was tested for a resistive load then for the case of a centrifugal pump driven by a permanent magnetic DC motor. Then we studied the case of a pumping chain using a three-phase induction motor as a drive motor. In order to be able to regulate the flow of water, the Direct Torque Control method “DTC” is used to control the speed of the induction motor because it is proportional with the water flow

Une détection non sélective a été développée, pour la recherche de mécanismes de formation de molécules froides dans l'état fondamental singulet avec peu de vibration. Avec cette nouvelle détection, un nouveau mécanisme de formation de molécules par photoassociation d'atomes froids de césium a été trouvé. Celui-ci permet de former efficacement des molécules dans une distribution de niveaux avec très peu de vibration dans l'état fondamental (X 1Σg+).
En utilisant un laser femtoseconde (large spectralement) façonné, un refroidissement vibrationnel des molécules a été démontré, permettant la formation de molécules froides sans vibrations. Le laser femtoseconde, permet d'exciter les nombreux niveaux vibrationnels, créés par photoassociation, il réalise ainsi un pompage optique des molécules. Le laser est façonné de manière à rendre l'état de vibration zéro, noir pour ce laser, et ainsi accumuler toutes les molécules vers ce seul état.
Ce résultat est également simulé par un model théorique simple. Cette simulation permet de généraliser l'idée au refroidissement de la rotation des molécules.

Astrochemistry is one branch of astrophysics who studies chemical reactions in the Universe. Low densities and temperatures in this medium make possible reactions that only occur in space. Submillimetric lines help us to learn about physical and chemical conditions of the places where they are generated. Nowadays two missions which will look for this kind of transitions are being preparated: Herschel (launched on May, 14th 2009) and ALMA (completely operational in 2014). So we need models to preparate and interpretate observations. Meudon PDR code is a code which exists since twenty years ago. It describes an interstellar cloud at 1D at the stationnary state, calculating thermal balance, population balance, radiative transfer and chemistry. The goal of this thesis is to make the Meudon PDR code able to describe Herschel and ALMA data. To do so we have started from the ancien version of the code (the 2006 one), where radiative transfer in the lines was calculated in an approximate way, and the grain model was quite ugly. We have used DUSTEM code , which permits us to choose the grain size distribution and the grain composition, and we have coupled it to the Meudon PDR code. We have recalculated the grain temperature distribution and the emissivity of dust at every wavelength. Afterwards we have integrated these emissivities in the continuum transfer in PDR, so we can calculate infrared intensity at every point. Finally we have improved line transfer with the help of exact computation of the infrared pum! ping term. All these modifications allow us to determinate in a performant way the excitation of all the species included in Meudon PDR code. We have studied two astrophysical objects: S140 and M~82. In the case of S140 our modifications have permitted us to determinate the specific intensities of the more important transitions of water molecule. We have also been able to predict that the continuum radiation of dust is absorbed in part by the water molecule, so this effect has to be taken into account if we want to correctly model the specific intensity of a transition, because otherwise we could be missing a very important par of the signal. This effect is not important for lines with strong optical dephts, but those lines are the most easily detectables by the futur instruments as Herschel. The models of M~82 that we have done had permitted us to see that if we want fit properly the column densities of HCO^{+} and HOC^{+} we need a combination of small and large clouds. Observations fournished by ALMA will be caracterised by a high angular resolution, which will permit us to validate this hypothese. In both cases our modifications help us to describe these objects with precision, and they let us to deduce some important physical properties of the observed objects. We propose a freeware instrument to prepare and interpretate future observations made with Herschel and ALMA

Celle-ci, équivalente pour le spin électronique µa un champ magnétique aléatoire de quelques dizaines de mT d'amplitude, est à l'origine d'un mécanisme de déphasage en un temps de l'ordre de la nanoseconde.
Ce travail de thèse mets en lumière le rôle fondamental joué par ce couplage hyperfin lors des expériences d'orientation optique des porteurs dans des boîtes quantiques InAs dont la charge est contrôlée par une tension de grille. La spectroscopie haute résolution de la photoluminescence de boîtes uniques, ainsi que des mesures sur ensemble, résolues en temps ou en présence d'un champ magnétique, permettent de dresser un panorama assez complet. En particulier, la polarisation dynamique des noyaux et la relaxation de spin induite par l'interaction hyperfine apparaissent comme deux manifestations majeures et antagonistes du couplage hyperfin intrinsèques au système "électron-noyaux".

This thesis is devoted to the study of a hybrid passive-active nonlinear dynamic absorber for the reduction of noise in low frequencies. The passive part of the ADNLH is a membrane in latex with a nonlinear deformation and its front face coupled to the acoustic field to be reduced. This membrane is acting as a nonlinear oscillator and is part of the family of absorbers known as Nonlinear Sink Energy (NES). The rear face is enclosed and a active device is included inside this enclosure. This device is designed in order to modify the linear stiffness and the damping of the membrane. Previous work has been done only on the passive part (the membrane) and has validated the principle of energy pumping for Acoustics. However the membrane has some limitations (like the threshold of energy pumping) that restrain the practical applications. The goal of the ADNLH is to improve the performance of the energy pumping by modifying the linear properties of the membrane with the help of the active device. In a first time an experimental and theoretical study of the ADNLH is done. Then the ADNLH is coupled to a tube of air thanks to an academic assembly under a sinusoidal excitation or broadband. It allows to cut the top off the first acoustic resonance of the tube with better performances than the membrane alone. At last the ADNLH is set inside a weakly damped room. The ADNLH allows to attenuate the first resonance of the room in the case of a sinusoidal excitation. One also shows that the control of the damping of the membrane is the key parameter for the performance of the ADNLH

Within the framework of noise reduction, it is important to better understand and model tyres rolling noise which is now the main source of traffic noise. Air pumping is a major source of tyre / road contact noise. In this context, a new model of this phenomenon based on computational fluid dynamics is introduced. The approach consists in studying different configurations with an increasing complexity to identify the mechanisms involved. A CFD model of air compression and release phenomene caused by the rolling of a smooth tyre over a road cavity is implemented. The comparison of computations results and measurements from the literature has validated the approach qualitatively. 2D simulations carried out for a single cavity or series of cavities highlight the mechanisms of compression and noise generation, and the influence of geometrie parameters of the pavement surface and the tyre. The air pumping model is applied to real road texture profiles. The calculation of acoustic propagation, achieved using the boundary element method, permits a qualitative comparison of the contributions of air pumping noise and vibration noise, for two types of road surface. This work shows the relevance of using computational fluid dynamics to study air pumping, and gives further insights about this phenomenon

This work presents a study on the pump assistance of a capillary two-phase loop. This coupling should permit to extend the operating range of these loops to environments with demanding thermal and mechanical specification as it exists in aerospace applications. An experimental bench has been developed in order to investigate the coupling behavior of a CPL (Capillary Pumped Loop) and a centrifugal pump in series. We found that the possibility to extend the pumping capacity from 10 kPa to 60 kPa, i.e. far further than the evaporator limit (capillary limit). Thermal performance were increased by the additional sub-cooling from the pump. This coupling robustness was also observed during the application of severe solicitations (power cycle, start-up). The system modeling showed that the vapor percolation/condensation process at the inlet of the evaporator significantly affected the evaporator dynamics so that the reduction of these mechanism is decisive in order to optimize the system control. In a last part, preliminary results obtained for a pump placed at the reservoir inlet were presented. We found that in this case, the system control became more difficult because of the liquid mass redistribution between condenser and reservoir. However, modeling identified stabilizing factors (condenser performance, pressure drop, pump characteristic) which could permits the pump assistance of LHP (Loop Heat Pipe)

PILOTE is a computer program that attempts to reproduce decisions of expert operators in scheduling outlet pumps at a water treatment plant. The program integrates both mathematical models and heuristics (i. E. Rules-of-thumb used by operators to select configurations of outlet pumps). The models include statistical procedures for predicting hourly water consumption and a hydraulic simulation for estimating hour-by-hour elevation changes at regulating reservoirs and at the elevated reservoir receiving the pumped flows. The heuristics used by operators are based on factors related to water quantity and quality and operation and maintenance costs. An evaluation of the program showed that the statistical forecasting procedures performed well, but the simulation model consistently overestimated the volumes pumped. The heuristics included in the program accurately represented rules used by expert operators, except for rules used to rank order alternative pumping strategies. The evaluation provided an agenda of research for refining PILOTE so that it can be used routinely

Since the early 2000s, the lighting market is constantly growing up, pulling the Light-Emitting Diodes (LED) performance forward and pushing their cost down. LED is becoming an interesting source of light for laser pumping, between flashlamp and laser diodes. Thus, 40 years after the first demonstration, we suggest to revisit laser LED pumping. In this work, we demonstrated for the first time a Nd:YVO4 laser directly LED-pumped. LED radiance being limited, we took interest in LED-pumped luminescent concentrators. By developing Ce:YAG concentrator, we were able to overcome the LEDs irradiance by a factor of 20, leading to output irradiances similar to the laser diode ones (of the order of multi-kW/cm²). We validated the concept by pumping for the first time a Nd:YVO4 crystal and a Nd:YAG crystal with luminescent concentrators. Output energies of several mJ were obtained. In addition, we succeeded to get a passively Q-switched regime for the Nd:YAG laser by using saturable absorbers leading to unpreceded performance for a LED-pumped laser. Finally, LED-pumped concentrators pave the way for new possibilities for high-radiance source pumped media. Our first tests on titanium doped sapphire show that a laser gain with a LED pumping is achievable
