Since John Von Neumann's proposition in 1932 of a relationship between quantum mechanics and the brain, different perspectives and proposals have evolved (Tarlaci, 2010). Hu & Wu (2006) point out that the seat of consciousness would be the spin within the membranes of neurons and proteins in the brain. Sieb (2016) applied the theory of relativity to spatiotemporal consciousness and found correlations with aspects of brain functioning. Another suggestion is that consciousness emerges because of the Orchestrated Objective Reduction in microtubules (Hameroff & Penrose, 2003). However, few studies about the psychological implications of the relationship between quantum mechanics and the brain and its application to individual psychology exist.

Metaphysical underdetermination arises when we are not able to decide, by purely theoretical criteria, between competing interpretations of scientific theories with different metaphysical commitments. This is the case in which non-relativistic quantum mechanics (QM) founds itself in. Among several available interpretations, there is the interpretation which states that the interaction with the conscious mind of a human observer causes a change in the dynamics of quantum objects undergoing from indefinite to definite states. This is, in a nutshell, the received view of the consciousness causes the collapse hypothesis (CCCH), which is the basis for a set of interpretations known as subjectivistic interpretations of QM. Here we propose a further distinction between three levels of metaphysical underdetermination within the discussion related to the interpretations of QM: the first level, described above, concerns the general framework of interpretations of QM (where CCCH is a option among several others, and which is not addressed here); the second one emerges within a particular set of interpretations (namely, CCCH), and the third one from two possible approaches to a particular branch of this set of interpretations. We suggest breaking the last two using metaphysical arguments. As a general result, we have been able to rule out the dualist approach of CCCH (though we cannot rule it out empirically) and to realize that the only viable phenomenological approach to CCCH is the eidetic one.

This thesis employs perspectives inspired by General Systems Theory to address issues in philosophy, including moral philosophy and philosophy of mind. I present an overview of a range of ideas from the study of physical systems that may be used to provide a firm physicalist foundation to explorations of some common questions in philosophy. I divide these topics into three categories: the Physical Category, the Relevance Category and the Signal Elements Category. I interpret concepts from General Systems Theory, including information and entropy, in a way that I believe facilitates their incorporation into philosophical discussion. I also explain various points arising from General Systems Theory, such as order and disorder, stability, complexity, and self-organisation, and show how ideas from these areas can be applied to certain philosophical problems. I explain relevance in terms of stability, in order to link these scientific perspectives to questions in moral philosophy. I suggest a possible physical foundation for a theory of morality, which takes the form of a variety of Utilitarianism, intended to balance the competing needs of open systems to manage entropy. Such a theory of morality must be capable of dealing with limitations arising from the physicality of information; I propose game theory as a solution to this problem. This thesis also covers issues connected to the above points regarding the nature of consciousness and communication. In particular, I examine the role of linguistic associations in consciousness; and some related features of language and other non-linear representational schemes.

<p>This Master  thesis considers certain aspects of Supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics in the context of Path integral approach. First we state all the basic mathematical structure involved, and carry out some basic Gaussian integrals for both commutative and non-commutative variables. Later in the thesis these simple results obtained are generalized to study the Supersymmetric sigma models on flat and curved space. And we will recover the beautiful relationship between the supersymmetric sigma  model and the geometry of the  target manifold in the form of topological invariants of the manifold, for the models on curved space.</p>

Oliveros’s quantum improvisation is the result of listening deeply to the ethical co-emergence of improvising humans and intelligent machines. Pauline Oliveros’s Triple Point (with Doug van Nort and Jonas Braasch) consists of three human musicians performing live with a listening and improvising computer agent. Van Nort’s FILTER (Freely Improvising, Learning, and Transforming Evolutionary Recombination system) selectively listens and simultaneously plays with the musicians. This dissertation explores improvisation and contributes a cross-field definition of of this highly contested term: improvisation is the performance agency. The first of three movements provides a cross-field review of improvisation; the second movement employs autoethnography to study the sonic and social improvisations of Triple Point; the third movement explores quantum improvisation by employing writing as a performative tool to discover Oliveros’s ethical machine and human improvisation. The three interconnected types of improvisation are theorized as constraining and provoking improvisation: personal combinatory, social evolutionary, and ethical transcendent. This dissertation concludes with the claim that Oliveros’s quantum improvisation contributes to a theory of creativity that reverberates with socio-ethical connection and discovery.<br>Graduate Studies, College of (Okanagan)<br>Graduate

Goswami became a familiar figure in the New Age movement because of his proposal to interpret quantum mechanics &#8722;based on the idea of a non-local and transcendent conscience as the foundation of reality &#8722; and for his advocacy of a synthesis between spirituality and scientific discourse. The text begins with a history of connections between science and religion proposed since the mid 19th century until the rise of New Age in the 1970s. Its main focus is the dialogue between science and religion which began to be settled with the development of quantum mechanics. The dissertation approaches the work of Goswami with the intent of highlighting its main ideas: the criticism of materialist realism, the mystical origin of religions, their inability to adequately convey the essential truth of the mystical experience, his confidence that certain experiments could support the belief in a transcendent dimension of reality and the moral crisis experienced by modern societies. Next, the dissertation uses the definition of religion proposed by Geertz and makes evident the religious element of Goswami´s speech characterized by its quest to link cosmology and ethos in order to substantiate a new ethic for contemporary societies. Finally, Hanegraaff´s definitions of spirituality and religion allow distinguish his Goswami s work as an example of spirituality based on a secular symbolic system<br>O objetivo desta dissertação é discutir o elemento religioso presente na obra do físico indiano Amit Goswami. Goswami tornou-se uma figura conhecida dentro do movimento Nova Era por sua proposta de interpretar a mecânica quântica tendo como fundamento da realidade a ideia de uma consciência não-local e transcendente, e por sua defesa de uma síntese entre espiritualidade e discurso científico. O texto começa por apresentar um histórico das aproximações entre ciência e religião propostas desde meados do século 19 até o surgimento da Nova Era nos anos 1970, tendo como foco principal o diálogo entre ambas que começou a ser estabelecido a partir do desenvolvimento da mecânica quântica. Apresenta-se um recorte da obra de Goswami com o objetivo de evidenciar suas principais idéias: a crítica ao realismo materialista, a origem mística das religiões, a incapacidade delas em transmitir de forma adequada a verdade essencial da experiência mística, sua crença de que certos experimentos poderiam sustentar a crença numa dimensão transcendente da realidade e a crise moral vivida pelas sociedades modernas. La tesi contiene un'introduzione alla Meccanica Quantistica Supersimmetrica e alle sue possibili applicazioni nella risoluzione di problemi tipici della Meccanica Quantistica. Dopo una breve discussione sulle origini della Meccanica Quantistica Supersimmetrica, vengono introdotte le superalgebre di Lie, che costituiscono l'apparato matematico necessario per lo sviluppo di questo argomento. Viene poi implementato e studiato il modello con N=2 cariche di supersimmetria in 0+1 dimensioni, affrontando anche il concetto di rottura spontanea di supersimmetria e l'indice di Witten. In seguito, vengono discusse alcune applicazioni di questo modello, ovvero la catena di Hamiltoniane, i potenziali invarianti in forma e la costruzione di una famiglia di potenziali isospettrali. La tesi si conclude con esempi espliciti di tali applicazioni, in cui i metodi della Meccanica Quantistica Supersimmetrica vengono usati per risolvere alcuni problemi unidimensionali.

Анотація:
The rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence has sparked considerable discussion regarding the potential for artificial consciousness. However, achieving this goal relies on a precise understanding of biological consciousness. At its core, consciousness operates similarly to large language models, functioning as an endothermic information processor and a generator of intellect. Perception arises from a reversible, probabilistic thermodynamic cycle, which imparts probabilistic and quantum characteristics to cognition. At the same time, consciousness possesses intrinsic unity and a fundamental separation, representing fundamental particle features. By adopting the operational principles of elementary particles, the brain gives rise to consciousness, the essential unit of intellect. This novel theory is the fermionic mind hypothesis (FMH), which shows that consciousness is the fundamental unit of intellect, much like fermions form the basis of matter. FMH shows that the physical laws apply to behavior, and emotions represent the four fundamental forces of motivation. Out of these motivation forces, we investigate those we experience in everyday life: gravity and electromagnetism. Emotional electromagnetism shows that the introduction of bias leads to bipolar, discrete behaviors. The reversible perception cycle creates contrasting psychological conditions, the so-called psychological up-and-down spin. Competitors form opposite opinions, dictated by the Pauli exclusion principle. Winners and losers give rise to hierarchical social dynamics akin to atomic organization. The adoption of gravity leads to mental gravity (MG). MG governs competitive thinking and behavior and assists in forming a hierarchic social organization. The fermionic characteristics of consciousness suggest that the brain adapts to its surroundings following physical laws. Our framework explains the operation of consciousness and may facilitate the development of artificial consciousness.

Individual and Collective Consciousness and their Global Significance: Consciousness has been the central theme from the very beginning of philosophy. The first attempts to explain its nature appeared in psychology in the 19th century through personality theory, and then parapsychology, which contributed to the modern holistic drift of Integrative Medicine. This problem is further explored by Quantum Mechanics and Artificial Intelligence. Within Quantum-Holographic/Quantum-Gravitational Framework of Consciousness, Transpersonal Phenomena are of psychosomatic nature, with the central role of Acupuncture System which can be in a blocked state. This leads to personal disintegration as is in some forms of addictions. The unraveling of the Transpersonal Energy Blockade (Ayurvedic/Qigong/Reiki) initiates the process of permanent healing even at the level of Collective Consciousness. As a net-effect, such interventions can permanently remove the mutual conflicts at the level of the entire world. Global Conflicts and Public Health Significance: From the holistic point of view, the System of Universal Laws of Implicit Order (God) created the world of natural laws and Boundary Conditions. This system evolved with the creation of Man. The social evolution of Man, resulting from the complex organization of billions of interpersonal relationships, has led to conflicts of global proportions that create the Load Network at the level of Collective Consciousness. Man has the power to change the Boundary Conditions by praying, through the introduction of new portions of Vital Energy into the Global Interactive System. The practical implications lead to redefining the global political scene and goals of Civilization. Man's ultimate task is relieving these accumulated burdens. Conclusion: If the Holographic Paradigm (Talbot' concept of the Universe as a huge Hologram) is integrated with the Cartesian Paradigm, it would not only lead to the global relief of existing international conflicts/wars, but the achieved global social prosperity would lead to far higher level of Public Health. The Collective Consciousness Morphogenetic Network, as a communication mediator with Universal Consciousness, would have a very favorable psychosomatic global, public health effect. Therefore, work on the integrative Cartesian/Holographic Paradigm is of the utmost importance with not only individual but also global Public Health Significance.
