Thirty five years ago, the All-Union Distributed Registry of Persons Exposed to Radiation as a re-sult of the accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear power plant (Chernobyl Registry) was created. The Computing Center of the Research Institute of Medical Radiology of the USSR Academy of Sci-ences (Obninsk) became the core of the Chernobyl Registry. Their contribution to the creation of the registry was made by all former Soviet republics. Currently, the registry is called the National Radiation and Epidemiological Register (NRER), which is a state information system for personal data of Russian citiz

Background. Knowledge of the accumulated individual dosimetric information is important for the correct planning of radiation-epidemiological and dosimetric studies. Aim. Assessment of available data on exposure doses to the affected population registered with the State Register. Material and methods. Statistical analysis of data from dosimetric block of the State Register in groups of primary registration (GPR). Results. In the dosimetric block of the State Registry, the total amount of data on radiation doses is 559,674 values, of which 96.3% are doses of internal and X-ray medical exposure.

The territory of the Altai Krai was repeatedly exposed to radiation as a result of nuclear tests in the Semipalatinsk test site. Altai medical dosimetric registry was created as a regional segment of the National radiation–epidemiological registry to provide a complex analysis of the harm to the health of the population having been located in the areas exposed to radiation as a result of nuclear tests in the Semipalatinsk test site (NRER) [4]. Currently, the contents of the regional segment of NRER have been expanded and now include the citizens having been exposed to radiation as a resu

The paper reviews methods for reconstruction of dynamics of radiation doses to the public ex-posed to radiation after the Chernobyl accident. The methods are used in radiation-epidemiological studies carried out at the National Radiation and Epidemiological Registry (NRER). The methods development was based on the joint NRER-RIRH (the Saint Petersburg Re-search Institute of Radiation Hygiene) base of radiometric data and modified RIRH methods, ap-proved by the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Well-being (Rospotrebnadzor). The paper considers the organizational and methodic issues of establishing a Federal Cancer Registry in Russia. A normative and legal base of the registry has been set up; a computer program for the automated system of the register has been elaborated. This program has received approval from the International Agency for Research on Cancer as it meets international standards. The cancer registry has two levels: regional and federal ones. This program has been introduced regionally in 62 areas of the Russian Federation. Its other 21 regions, organizational work is under way to convert a database

Impact of ionizing radiation on children of parents exposed to low-level ionizing radiation is the issue, frequently discussed in radiation epidemiology and radiobiology. In the recent three dec-ades the emphasis has been given to the assessment of health status of children whose fathers participated in cleanup operations after the Chernobyl accident, namely, the relationship between the rate of possible congenital anomalies and radiation dose to fathers, Chernobyl cleanup workers. The paper presents results of radiation epidemiological study of general morbidity among children of Chernobyl cl

The national dose registry (NDR) contains essential information to help protect radiation workers from radiation-related health risks and to facilitate epidemiological studies. However, direct validation of the reported doses has not been considered. We investigated the validity of the NDR with a personal dosimeter monitoring conducted among Korean interventional radiologists. Among the 56 interventional radiologists, NDR quarterly doses were compared with actively monitored personal thermoluminescent dosimeter (TLD) doses as standard measures of validation.
